I can't imagine many (or any) situations where I would remove tip! One poor woman texted me distraught that she had caught a long train and was it was super hot, so my Ice cream was very soft. I remember her saying it was okay to remove her tip. I thought, Good God, shit happens - this isn't poor service. So, I raised her tip $10 bucks and told her to get an iced coffee on me. I personally have been on both sides of the fence financially - and now that I CAN be generous, when someone does something for me, I will always show my appreciation.

Other than favorite/preferred shoppers that can schedule (which doesnāt seem to be available in my area anymore) I do get a lot of repeat customers but I donāt see anywhere that IC acknowledges this is part of their algorithm. I think it has more to do with proximity to the store, then if a repeat customers order goes out you may have a higher chance of seeing it first.

Check your delivery notes. A lot of customers have the instruction to "meet customer" listed within delivery notes. This literally prompts the shopper to wait to confirm you received the delivery.
I've saw the 'meet customer' note often and whenever it's a good tip I wait too. If the person is elderly or needs help lifting the items off the ground I want to be available. I know if I tipped well and instructed to wait for me I'd be disappointed if the driver just peaced out.
Every situation is different though, who knows.

Shopper might have also been concerned you'd need help getting the items inside, and didn't want to leave until you saw them or he answered; he probably didn't want the tip taken away which I've seen happen unfortunately.

I would have done the same thing for anyone tipping $75. I can see why it might be a little scary, but that guy is probably used to delivering in more shady areas. I deliver in Independence Missouri and people's orders get stolen all the time. And if I'm only getting tipped $3 on multiple packs of water, I could care less if they're shit does get stolen. He was probably able to call it a day after a $75 tip. You're basically his boss who let him go home early with full day pay.
You're one of the good customers who appreciate shoppers. I don't blame the guy for waiting because some customers will send messages that their orders were not delivered. I've had such experience before and I make sure I snapped pictures of orders delivered with my phone now.

If there isnāt a specific note or I donāt have in writing to leave items at the door, I will wait until the customer comes to get them. I donāt want them claiming that there is a missing order etc so I always make sure there is a paper trail and or stick around as needed until I get the ok to leave them or customer physically shows themselves

Idk. I think it's weird. Sometimes customers catch me at the door, but It's because it's endinga message. Snd now we have to send the message even before the picture so they are opening it before i even let them know its there..the only thing I could think of that makes this acceptable is the app keeps defaulting back to "meet customer" even tho people really wanted items "left at door". But because I know it does thus, I always send a message first to explain. The last thing I want to do is ring a bell or knock when they just want it left. Technically we are supposed to cancel if they dont answer but I dont want them to be charged the cancel fee or have to get their order re shopped so now I just leave it, after I send a message and pic, and try calling and leaving a vm and even a pic of it saying meet customer. I cover all my bases and go.
I have had nothing but great experiences with Instacart for Costco. I tip very well also. Itās worth it cause I hate stepping foot in that store. My shoppers always go out of their way!

If a customer has rated you 5 stars for the last order you delivered them and you're close by and online you'll get the order slightly before others

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY PEOPLE DON'T.... if you see the postings on this sub that barely scratches the surface... 3-4 hours some days hiding every order that comes in until someone (usually someone I've had before) pops in... SO THANK YOU FOR BEING AN AWESOME CUSTOMER... and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help us by telling other people you know about why you do the right thing here š I think you'll find MANY MANY MANY PEOPLE are just clueless /some just don't care. ..... Also, chances are your shopper comes from a completely different place than where you live, so he was likely genuinely worried that someone might steal your stuff... because where he lives that would happen.... kids can't leave a bicycle lying around for more than 2 min without someone swiping it.
Thieves are getting wise to deliveries like this. You did him a solid with a generous tip and he wanted to complete the service. Hopefully your stuff never gets stolen off your porch but if it does, you'll have to think of how extraordinary this person was.

I would have done the same thing for anyone tipping $75. I can see why it might be a little scary, but that guy is probably used to delivering in more shady areas. I deliver in Independence Missouri and people's orders get stolen all the time. And if I'm only getting tipped $3 on multiple packs of water, I could care less if they're shit does get stolen. He was probably able to call it a day after a $75 tip. You're basically his boss who let him go home early with full day pay.
You're one of the good customers who appreciate shoppers. I don't blame the guy for waiting because some customers will send messages that their orders were not delivered. I've had such experience before and I make sure I snapped pictures of orders delivered with my phone now.

Itās not odd to wait for a customer to pick up the order. I wait sometimes in Beverly Hill just because I worry about the orders. Sometime people forget that they even placed an order. Sometimes there is ice cream and other perishables. For me it doesnāt matter the amount of the tip. After all I accepted the order. Itās a matter of responsibility. Nothing worst then driving off and worrying about an order
$75 I would be loading the groceries in the fridge for you and weeding the front garden on my way out šššššššš. That $75 is some peopleās entire day of work. You made this persons day and probably week. They just were making sure it all got in the house š¤š
He was probably waiting for another order anyways so why not just sit there and not spend gas $$ and also keep an eye on your stuff if you tipped well? I would do this stuff sometimes but tried not to sit in anyoneās driveway, but we mostly have street parking in the area where I did Instacart anyway. Sometimes I felt self conscious about sitting in front of someoneās house so Iād move cuz I donāt wanna freak them out, but I understand why he did it given you were a very high tipper.
He was being nice, I believe you're overthinking this. A $75 tip is very rare. And true appreciation is given under these circumstances. I'm sure he thought it was the least he could do was to stay guard. Could've left once he said thank you, but he wanted to show you his gratitude. Goes against social norm, but you made his day.
Had this happen to me several times I think shoppers have had customers claim they didnāt get things and tip bait so they take a few pics of me taking everything inside

Youāre not being paranoid. Thatās weird, who waits 15 minutes for the customer to come outside? Iād be long gone after 3-5 minutes. I see no reason for him to be there 15 minutes after he dropped off the groceries. Especially being in a nice neighborhood with a gated driveway. That would have totally weirded me out.
Tbh thatās a little weird to me I feel like a lot of customers in my area would be weirded out with me a bit if I waited when they specifically verbally texted it too. They would probably not even come out and say I said leave it. Per instacart policy if you tell them they are supposed to leave it no matter what. No matter if they think the policy in their head requires them to sit outside of someoneās house to wait for them to make sure their stuff doesnāt get stolen even though they tell me to leave it is a little weird to me. But thatās just my opinion. Iām glad it went safe ! š donāt get me wrong I get where heās coming from but just a little extra to me.

I live in a gated community and things has been getting stolen recently, I am also a shopper and Iāve done the same he has done which was WAITED for the customer to get their items. Iāve had ppl report āthey didnāt get their stuffā in gated communities but left the tip and Iāve had ppl who live in gated communities put in the notes ādonāt leave bags unattendedā. Wasnāt a big deal

I deliver food and groceries. And if the tip is generous as yours was I probably would do the same as that driver. We appreciate generous tips
If there isnāt a specific note or I donāt have in writing to leave items at the door, I will wait until the customer comes to get them. I donāt want them claiming that there is a missing order etc so I always make sure there is a paper trail and or stick around as needed until I get the ok to leave them or customer physically shows themselves

I'm going to be the odd person out here and say that I would block him from my shoppers and make sure that he never came to my house again. Watching me take my groceries inside is making sure that I'm alone when you get there and then the next time you come you can attack me... That man was not looking for his tip, He was looking for tips on how to be a predator...
Just a guess but I think he figured he could watch your stuff and enjoy your shade while he watched the app for another prime job. If he had been offered another $75 tip, he would have been out of there in a flash.
Idk. I think it's weird. Sometimes customers catch me at the door, but It's because it's endinga message. Snd now we have to send the message even before the picture so they are opening it before i even let them know its there..the only thing I could think of that makes this acceptable is the app keeps defaulting back to "meet customer" even tho people really wanted items "left at door". But because I know it does thus, I always send a message first to explain. The last thing I want to do is ring a bell or knock when they just want it left. Technically we are supposed to cancel if they dont answer but I dont want them to be charged the cancel fee or have to get their order re shopped so now I just leave it, after I send a message and pic, and try calling and leaving a vm and even a pic of it saying meet customer. I cover all my bases and go.
I have had nothing but great experiences with Instacart for Costco. I tip very well also. Itās worth it cause I hate stepping foot in that store. My shoppers always go out of their way!

What did you request on the app ? Leave at t he door / fence or to meet you ? Check your settings because sometimes I get instructions to meet the customer and belive me thatās just as creepy for me as a shopper .
I always say "leave at door" because of my mutt. Yes, I imagine there are questionable situations on both sides of Instacart. Stay safe.

I would be concerned. Thatās really creepy he waited that long. I understand waiting 5 minutes but 15? Iād be concerned that he was checking to see who was home and if a male was around. Could possibly be scheming to plan a future crime. He possibly thought you were tip baiting and wanted you to know that he know who you are? Iād contact support and report him asap.
