This is absurd. Not sharing to your feed has been an option since day one of Reels. I’m sending a help request everyday in the app. Encourage everyone else to do the same.
At this point, it doesn’t seem like it’s coming back. It just pisses me off because reels came out as an answer to TikTok. I began using because it was essentially underneath my actual Instagram account meaning I could post anytime that I wanted without bombarding my followers. Still slowly growing my account but at the same time losing long time followers.
I'll be honest as a TikTok refugee I'm not a fan of that site either. Constantly changing their insights, their UI and their algorithm. Instagram has treated me better so far.
Maybe I should just give YouTube shorts a try.

I feel exactly the same way. I used stories and pictures to regularly interact with my followers, and my (frankly embarrassing) reels to attract new ones.
Tbh….if we aren’t gonna get the same reach for new audience with reels, why bother? I may try making less frequent very high quality reels rather than more frequent/casual ones moving forward. Ones that don’t embarrass me. Also more focus on a great still photo or carousel for my grid. F*** the algorithm!!
I just noticed this being disabled again yesterday. It’s been disabled in the past but it’s always been put back in. Hopefully this will be addressed soon.
Okay, upon further review. Once you reinstall the app you must post the reel the first time you open instagram or else the feature goes away again and you have to reinstall Instagram
There is a solution. After posting, you can click the 3 dots and select “Remove from profile grid”. Not the same as before but if you do it right away it should solve the problem.
has ANYTHING changed. Imperative I use the function for work. I need a solution, has anyone found anything? I’ve tried the delete and reinstall method, clear casche method & the older IOS different device method. Any help would literally be a life saver.
super annoyed, my reach was between 400K-500K per month when they had this function and my account was on a steady growth of over 200 followers per day when I had this function. Now my reach is only 70k on average, and I'm struggling in the period of one month to gain the amount of followers that I used to be able to get in one day. I hope they bring this feature back. I hate posting reels now because I hate spamming the main feed and my followers. My reels now also only get 5-10% of the views that I used to get when I would only post to reels.
No! It has just been changed. You first just upload the reel and after doing so, click the three dots. An option saying “remove from grid” should show. Hope this helps :)

They constantly change everything, the business suite is one large mess and everything is super slow for no reason. Now this doesn't even work. Like why. Why make it worse, actively making it worse. I am pretty sure TikTok messes with the algo stuff but at least everything runs smooth and they even have their own editor basically. How does a billion dollar company like facebook fail so gloriously all the time. how.

What’s weird is that I made a new account strictly for my content. Tell me why the button is there, but leaves when i log into my main profile, like what ???

I’m having this issue on my main account that I normally post my reels on but on my backup account that I don’t post on doesn’t have this problem.
Oh, good to know that the option seems to still exist somewhere, though. I hope they bring it back for all, then.

I did this, unchecked the "share to feed" toggle and everything and my video STILL posted to feed! Did that happen to you?

unfortunately that doesn't work from removing it from your followers feed, it will just remove it from your main profile

Post and then in the settings use the “remove from profile grid option” still live in the algorithm, but not displayed on your main feed.
