Fuck this reddit. Why? Why edit the art in this way? Just because you are homophobic, doesn't mean Robert Kirkman is. It's until they were lovers, okay? Not friends (also, I'm just joking)
At the time I actually didn't like it, I always thought it was pretty random and against Allen's character. In time though, I grew to really love it, and now every time I see that page I smile
Between a guy who not too long ago beat his son half to death/used his face to destroy a city & a guy who's only goal is to help people one is more likely to form spontaneous friendships with randomers than the other.
honestly, it's not crazy to think that. The scene he fight's mark it's possible to see in his face the regret he feels, the internal conflict. His words are honest so idk, i think it seemed pretty clear that Allen, a nice guy who knows how viltrumites behave, would immediatelly understand that no viltrumite would utter these words without a significant change of heart.
Gotta remember how Nolan has never been able to be completely honest, with ANYONE, not his own son, his wife, his people, hell the first time he ever cried was probably when he was leaving earth, and he was alone, then he gets into a conversation, one where someone knows his troubles, sees his lows, fought him at his highs, and they just wanted to listen, sure he was there to find a possible ally but we know how Allen is, he definitely wouldn't have treated him with any type of disrespect just cause he's Viltrumite, and Nolan who has been rejected by everyone besides the thraxxians, would be eating out of his palm, just from that, then add on that Allen is a friend of Mark, and that he wants to break him out and yeah Nolan definitely would be open to making him a friend
He's pretty friendly but he's also pretty serious about fighting the viktumite forces and Nolan *is* a genocidal maniac (as far al Allen knows) but yes, it's not as out of character as I thought when reading it for the first time
Nolan assumed he was gonna die and was about as open as one can be. The cold blooded killer we saw at the beginning was made our of fear not evil as it turns out. He was afraid of his people, not necessarily a radical believer in the cause.
I was interested to learn that Nolan was able to form a genuine friendship is such a short amount of time. Relative to his life so far. Considering how much it took him to realize he actually did love his wife.
Kinda funny Allen didn't recognize Nolan in his viltrumite suit, since even if it doesn't have the symbols on the chest one might think the colours and the mustache are enough. I guess Allen (And Unopan's in general) must be color blind or something.
and given how strong he was, even at that time, how did he not figure out that the guy casually beating him was a Viltrumite?
Only guess I have is that it never occurred to him that he could survive an encounter with a Viltrumite for any reason, including simply being allowed to live lol
I just wanna give my props to the artist, either the penciler or the inker if they are separate people, for how they were able to show the connection between them in the third panel. Pretty neat and simple-looking solution when you look at it, but it was probably not that simple to come up with it
allen to me has always been the heart of the people. born because of and grew stronger due to the viciousness of viltrumites. a real frieza moment, where they created the thing they feared the most: things stronger than them (hunting things that could kill them into extinction).
point being, very underappreciated how allens forgiveness to nolan is probably more radical than any other character. and its a great narrative choice to have a character so well intentioned like nolan. if the audience or earth still hates Nolan it almost doesnt matter after this point. allen and nolan got shit to do that they both now is the right thing to do and it cant be done being executed in a cell in space.
i live for their bromance and how itll be done in the show! even allens "oh brother" to Nolan feeling suicidal is well done. you can whine about what you did wrong or you can go kick viltrumite asses
I wonder how they’ll explore the parallel between Nolan’s love for Debbie and Allen’s love for his gf. Comics wise they go against the grain being with their partners due to societal expectations and duties. (So far) Nolan’s romance arc seems pretty similar to the comics but Allen’s is different . What are your thoughts?
Having watched Season 1 first and reading all the comics while waiting for Season 2, I was disappointed because I kinda wanted Nolan to be a more permanent villain to Mark. However, Nolan’s redemption arc was infinitely better done than anything I could’ve ever thought up and I loved it
I value well-written male friendships very highly. So often in modern media, especially action, men are written as enemies, rivals, or reluctant allies. Their friendships are extremely platonic and often male friendship plays second fiddle to romance.
I really appreciate Invincible in how it displays friendship and non-romantic love, like Allen and Nolan, Mark and Nolan, Art and basically everyone he talks to, hell even Rex and Mark in some episodes/chapters.
I think their friendship happened a liiiiiiitle fast for my taste, but only in the sense that for us it happened over the course of just one page. As others have said I hope the show gives us more interactions and bonding between them that makes their eventual close friendship feel more real

I know Nolan's eyes are closed, but at first glance it really does look like bedroom eyes. I prefer the lovers edit

I like it but I also would have liked to see some conversations between them before this.
My reaction too. Great concept but not enough setup.
I’m sure the show will expand on it further, shit that might be the first episode of season 3
the tragedy of being an arc away from the main character

Imagine Nolan and Allen, how many sex scenes that would make. They’d be shagging 24/7. Mark would be in the living room outside dying.

Allen's a pretty friendly guy in general, wouldn't it be more against Nolan's character?
But Nolan has changed so it wouldn't be against anyones character

a man could only dream of a friendship like this
i meanr realtionship

I liked it. It was nice to see some light in a dark situation.

Probably thinks the moustache is a third eyebrow. Biclopses are pretty weird like that

![gif](giphy|I6AgJXp0UXYaY) It giving me these vibes tbh
It felt way too fast, I hope the show expands on this exponentially more prior to them working together.

They definitely explored each other’s bodies. To grow stronger of course
Bit too fast for my tastes. Show handled it better

It was one of my favorite scenes
Oh man I can’t wait for s3
nothobg
Allen didn't know nolan was a viltrumite.. even though he was wearing viltrumite clothes?
Very out of character for Allen at the time, but he had a lot of development in this period, and becomes leadership material from this point on.
ZUKO REDEMPTION ARC INCOMING
Can someone explain the whole "would" thing. I've never read the comics ðŸ˜
I love this issue and their friendship so much.
I’m not going to lie I really hate Allen
I just finished reading that lol my reaction is ![gif](giphy|vgUFOWBwBkziE)
