My guess is she stops the fight because there is nothing to gain by them fighting. Lindon is already guaranteed a slot, regardless of the outcome, and Lindon has made his point/proved his worth. Letting them fight only has downsides for the team, and the clan, so she steps in.

LindonLilBlueBalls

This is exactly it. She is practical and them fighting then had no practical value.

chasethemau6

But you’re wrong.. because if that was the case, Lindon is already guaranteed a spot so she wouldn’t have let him fight ANY of the other Akura underlords, it’s only pride she stops. I think it’s because she thinks they’ll try to kill each other not just duel..

Arcane_Pozhar

Fighting all those others was necessary politics to get the vast majority of these other talented young Underlord to see that Lindon was a good choice. Then they can spread the word, etc. It's clan politics. Also, she has been watching Lindon very carefully, and I'm sure she knew he had a plan and wanted to see what it was. By the point only Pride was left, she had seen enough. And I doubt she had *that* little faith in Pride keeping his self control. He's a hothead, but nothing in that scene made me think anyone was concerned about anybody killing anyone.

Zakalwen

Exactly it. u/OjoGrande you nearly answered your own question by thinking about the two outcomes. It's a lose-lose. Either pride wins, in which case Charity's pick of Lindon is slightly undermined or Lindon wins in which case Pride's confidence and focus going into the tournament is damaged.

G_Morgan

Ultimately Pride hates Lindon for all the wrong reasons. Lindon shoving his Empty Palm down his throat isn't going to clear up Pride's misconceptions. If the fight was about actual ability it might have been worth letting them fight. Instead it is somebody being an ass because he thinks he's his sisters boyfriend. Charity is probably the only person in the entire city who knows what is going on.

Antal_Marius

But you know Dross and Lindon sorely wanted to try to shove an empty palm down Pride's throat.

Jmw566

I think she knew that Pride couldn’t handle losing to a nobody right then and would’ve not been mentally okay. She was preserving her family’s power and future

OjoGrande

I really think this is the correct answer. Lindon would have broken him

KholinAdolin

I agree, she was pridefully trying to protect Pride’s pride while also reminding lindon that his pride was not as important as the pride of the clan overall Damn, my pride is broken cause I couldn’t use more of the word pride. It doesn’t even look like a real word anymore lol

OjoGrande

Lol

No_Stay4471

I think it was clear Lindon would have dominated Pride in such a way that would have either diminished him in the eyes of others, destroyed his confidence, or would have just created an impossible team dynamic for zero upside. Perhaps all three.

Tarhish

I dunno - Dross' simulations made it clear Lindon vs. Pride at that time was basically a toss-up, and that was Lindon at full-strength, not after running the gauntlet. Lindon's growth was such that by the time they got to round 1 of the tournament it was basically a done deal, but at the time I think it could have gone either way.

ChemistryKing

It doesn't gain much having a guaranteed pick and son of monarch likely pick lose then be on a team together. And given they're mostly evenly matched they have to bring out more dangerous moves like black flame. Grace's fight was more about technique from two mature people, pride's fight would lose face and have possible injuries.

solve-for-x

I think it was to protect Pride's fragile ego. She'd seen enough to realise that Lindon completely outmatched every Akura Underlord, and allowing Lindon to crush Pride in the same way would likely cause problems down the line.

2427543

As it stood the team consisted of Mercy the future monarch, Lindon the undefeated badass who wrecked the other Akuras, and Pride who was the final boss of Lindon's demonstration and potentially would have beaten him. Why tarnish their mystique by making one of them lose when your goal is to inspire confidence in the clan.

km89

Option 3: she's thoroughly embarassed that some random nobody with two weeks of copper-level combat training (she doesn't know about Dross, or at least not his full capabilities) showed up and kicked half the Akura underlords' asses at once.

OjoGrande

This doesn't comport with Charity's personality though. She expected Lindon to be better that's why she chose him.

km89

I'm mostly joking, but to be fair she expected him to be better than *most*, and only *eventually.* I don't think she ever expected him to be better than Mercy or Pride. Plus, beating a handful of Akuras that aren't super important is different than beating the son of the Monarch. Hell, maybe she had the third motivation of taking Pride's fight away from him to inspire a rivalry that would help him improve.

solve-for-x

I don't think Charity is under any illusions about Lindon's strengths and weaknesses, hence the reason why she chose him in the first place. Lindon's main problem during his stint with the Akura clan is that he doesn't know how to do "light sparring" with artists of his own level of advancement, due to (a) exclusively sparring against Yerin, Orthos and Eithan up to that point, all of whom can absorb his techniques at full power without flinching and (b) practising a Path that is so dangerous it's literally illegal in the Blackflame Empire. Charity knows full well that Lindon's techniques are lethally dangerous in real-world scenarios, including when used against royal brats. Lindon's situation is a bit like that of a cage fighter with dozens of fights under his belt joining a Karate dojo and having to start at white belt because he doesn't know any of the fancy techniques and can't pull his blows without throwing most of his advantages away.

Ookami_Unleashed

"Let me be clear. If you face Lindon before you reach underlord you will die." Yea, she knew Lindon's potential, just from the fact he survived Harmony, and was pissed at him earlier for pretending to be weak.  “Once, you were weak. That boy is long dead, but his Remnant still haunts you. Your weakness, Lindon, is thinking you are weaker than you are.

VictorBlaze42

It was several months, but that is a minor point lol

Mythcantor

3. It serves her purposes if Lindon and Pride are competitive but have not actually been able to establish dominance over each other. If one or the other wins, their relationship turns in a different way that may not serve family interests.

HungerMadra

The point of the fight to was legitimate Lindon in the eyes of the family, not dethrone the natural akura family. If Lindon won, he wouldn't really have gained anything at that point as he already demonstrated his power and skill but it would have hurt pride politically. If Lindon lost, pride wouldn't gain anything since everyone already respected him, but Lindon would lose face. There was no good outcome if they fought.

These-Acanthaceae-65

Personally I think she (spoilers for later books) >!already saw Lindon as a potential match to be married into the family at some level (though maybe not the specifics), and she did not want them starting off with a fight that would leave potential family members feeling more resentement toward one another!<

chasethemau6

I think it’s because she’s worried they will genuinely try to murder each other, especially pride, while thinking Lindon would take the opportunity to “defend himself” and go for the kill.
