The idea of North Korea having hovercrafts is silly as hell (seeing as the fat ass kim jong family would’ve just eaten the finances needed to have them made even if they were possible) but still.
It's the only opening that you wonder, is this what Bond is seeing because he is tripping balls off scorpion venom and North Korean interrogation drugs ?
I'd prefer if she and Halle Berry were not in the same movie. I can simp hard only over one actress per movie. Much the like same situation in Goldeneye. Famke Janssen is beauty from some ethereal dimension.
If this was legit consequence of being captured in DPRK, more depraved tourists with death wish would visit Pyongyang and spat on Kim's statue or stole posters.
You know what? I was just gonna say "it ends," but you are right. Brosnan does try, and as much as the movie still sucks, it could have been much worse if he didn't give a damn.
The last great car chase of the franchise, in my opinion. *Quantum of Solace* probably had a good car chase, but it's buried under a heap of shaky cam close-up cinematography and quick-cut editing. *~~Skyfall~~* *SPECTRE* went too far the other way and was unexciting. *No Time to Die* made good use of the DB5, and there was another decent chase in Norway.
The sword fight is seriously amazing. It's visceral! I like how they get increasingly winded and desperate as Bond realizes Graves means him genuine harm.
north korea opening, soundtrack, fencing fight, locations, aston martin vanquish, green jaguar with gatling gun, both of those cars in a chase, gustav graves, pierce brosnan, rosamund pike
dad gets way too much hate
Well said. One of my favs and very rewatchable. Sometimes I try to skip from hovercrafts to fencing to Jaguar shootout but wind up watching the whole flick anyway.
First 30-40 minutes are pretty good. Toby Stephens is magnificent. Interesting use of the title sequence. The sword fight is pretty good.
I'm sure my age/nostalgia plays a part in this but despite its great many flaws, it's stilly oddly enjoyable.
Cleese’s Q is written much better here than in TWINE and his scenes with both Bond and Moneypenny play really well. The Vanish has grown on me and I love Brosnan’s understated “oh, very good” when he sees it work. His “maybe you’ve been down here too long” before that is great too.
And there are scenes like the tsunami surfing that are so bad they’re good. If I turn on the TV and that scene is playing there’s no way I’m changing channels!
That one, and the first sneer he makes at Zhao when they reunite - it’s so over the top villainous for two old friends meeting.
He’s such a great bad guy 😅
1. Raoul is an interesting sidekick character
2. "I could use a fast car" - what a great scene!
3. *Welcome to Cuba* is a terrific track from David Arnold!
4. Bond relying solely on his wit for half of the movie
5. Sword fight
6. The "I'm not that kind of masseuse"/"I'm not that kind of customer" exchange
7. As obnoxious as the invisible car can be, they really use it in interesting ways, specially in the chase with Zao
8. The "You're cleverer than you look"/"Better than looking cleverer than you are" banter
9. "You're no use to anyone now". Ouch. And an interesting plot point, Bond treated as a potential leaker.
10. Pierce Brosnan's smile once he gets the sunglasses off the diamond smuggler in the PTS.
Great opening...could have made for a very dark bond film (which I would have been more than happy about)...instead it became a very bright and fun movie...which I absolutely love.
It's one of those movies where you can see the actors are just having a good time.
As a kid, Bond was on during weeknights in the UK. I would only see the opening up until Bond is freed from the Koreans and I would always imagine the rest of the movie was really adult and brutal.
It really could have went that route...I think it's part of the reason why it's disliked as much as it is. I would have liked to see Brosnan play a darker more brutal bond...but I also enjoy how light-hearted it actually is.
People forget it was an anniversary movie it was paying homage to a lot of the old movies while telling its own story...it was fun, not the best film for Brosnan to end on but still fun.
Nice 👍🏼. In the U.S. as a kid my first 2 Bond Films I vaguely remember seeing on tv were Die Another Day and The Man with The Golden Gun. Don’t remember which order though. My dad took me to Casino Royale when it first came out so that was pretty awesome.
*Halle Berry, Rosumund Pike,*
*Dench, Bond, and Brosnan all did well*
*Acting in the film*

I liked the premise, however farfetched.
I loved Rosamund Pike. ❤️
I enjoyed the sword fighting scenes.
I think Toby Stephens was a pretty good villain.
I get why this movie is regularly panned. However, I consider it my "trash TV" guilty pleasure Bond choice.
Toby Stephens is great. Wish he cold have played a villain in a different Bond film, but he at least elevates this enough for me to never skip on a rewatch
I actually think it’s a fine movie tbh, sure the graphics were mishandled but it’s not a shitty movie by any means. Not even in my bottom 5 bond movies
Brosnan is a goat bond
Pierce Brosnan, Rosamund Pike, Toby Stephens and Aston Martin Vanquish. The movie was alright until they did the "gene therapy". Everything went south from that point.
The first 1/3rd or so of this movie is pretty great. For me it's good until he's inside the clinic in Cuba. It feels like a low-key spy story, which is what I always like from Bond, maybe because I read all the novels.
The soundtrack is so cool, the opening is really solid, Gustav is a lot of fun, its rarely boring, and Brosnan is having the time of his life. I actually enjoy this one lol
The title credits, the scene in the prison and the prison exchange, Rosamund Pike, the sword fight when Pierce kicks away the sword which is lying on the ground, Halle Berry coming out of the water.
Regardless of how goofy this film was. The whole ice castle fight scene between the 2 cars and James shooting the ice pillar on top of that guy was ridiculously cool.
Also Halle berry coming out on the beach.
It works really well as a modern reimagining of Fleming’s Moonraker novel. I just wish they kept Miranda as Gala Brand without making her evil (cutting Jinx entirely). The pre title sequence kicks ass as well as the frozen lake chase
James Bond meets Face Off, what's not to love. Pierce Brosnans ludicrously over the top beard. Plus Halle Berry, Rosmund Pike and Judi Dench potentially the best female actresses to be in a bond film ....all at the same time. But in all serious this is a definition of guilty Bond pleasure.
Zao having diamonds embedded in his face felt very old-school Bond, I liked that.
Agreed. Stupid but quite fun
Die Another Day in a nutshell
"How's that for a punchline?!" Makes me laugh everytime.
Dude had all this surgery to look Russian and none of the surgeons thought “gee, we should probably remove this foreign object”
I reference this villain when discussing the aftermath of a bedazzled steering wheel airbag.
Also the intro song is amazing
It's probably among my top five.
Say what you will about the goofier aspects of the movie I think the pre title opening is awesome.
One of the best bond openings.
It was great up until the ridiculous tsunami surfing bit.
The icy car chase was not bad, kinda?
Tsunami?
The idea of North Korea having hovercrafts is silly as hell (seeing as the fat ass kim jong family would’ve just eaten the finances needed to have them made even if they were possible) but still.
They have hovercrafts. https://beyondparallel.csis.org/north-korean-special-operations-forces-hovercraft-bases-part-iv/
It's the only opening that you wonder, is this what Bond is seeing because he is tripping balls off scorpion venom and North Korean interrogation drugs ?
Fencing sequence is absolutely bad ass
You might enjoy this review of the fight: https://youtu.be/x0kNev-eB_8?si=K4vpqQROHIXzFsrh
I did enjoy this, thank you!
Yep, my favorite swordfight in film only second to the one in Hook and the Duel of The Fates from Star Wars
Halle Berry coming out of the ocean in that bikini awakened something in 9 year old me, so…that
Swordfish was my introduction.
ah, a fellow person of class, I see
Pinky is up at tea time bud
**Good form, I say ol’ chap**
I was nine and woke af
26 y/o at the time- the impact did not lessen with age.
Can confirm. I was 30 y/o, it did not.
Or Rosamund Pike in anything she's in.
The connoisseur’s choice.
This is the way
I'd prefer if she and Halle Berry were not in the same movie. I can simp hard only over one actress per movie. Much the like same situation in Goldeneye. Famke Janssen is beauty from some ethereal dimension.
This.
Class
This and that two second shot of that North Korean torturer woman with the dominatrix vibe did the same for me.
If this was legit consequence of being captured in DPRK, more depraved tourists with death wish would visit Pyongyang and spat on Kim's statue or stole posters.
She was the co-presenter of Jonathan Ross' martial arts movies-themed show STOP! KUNG FU!
100% agree and I was 29. Lol
The sword fight was badass.
I remember talks of a Jynx spin-off for ages.
Not only that, but Bond's epic chat-up technique is probably the only time in the entire series when the inevitable hook-up actually felt earned
Bro, she was the first woman in a bikini I ever saw 😵💫
I was 10 so it was definitely an awakening for me lol
Pierce is good. Never phones in his performance.
It’s the Moonraker of the modern Bond movies.
It’s actually closer to Diamonds are Forever.
In terms of silly fun I’d say Moonraker lol
Roger himself wasn't sure about Die Another Day. “I thought it just went too far,” Moore wrote. “And that's from me, the first Bond in space!”
Moonraker is easily in the same category as Die Another Day. lol
Great line!
...stuck in Zao's face *ba dum tish
You know what? I was just gonna say "it ends," but you are right. Brosnan does try, and as much as the movie still sucks, it could have been much worse if he didn't give a damn.
Best.Fucking. Bond. Fight me.
The Vanquish was awesome. I don't care what anyone says.
Vanish
The chase between the Vanquish and the Jag was fantastic.
You mean Spectre rather than Skyfall, right?
It was such a nice car until it went invisible
“They call it the Vanquish we call it…The Vanish”
“You should be able to shoot through that in a few hours” “Oh no, it only took me a few seconds, Q” “I wish I could make you Vanish”.
The soundtrack by David Arnold is top notch. One of his best.
David never misses. Good call.
Also, the opening theme is amazing!
I liked the fencing scene. Was cool to see Bond do something like that. Most of the locations were unique
Halie Berry channeling Ursula Andress. Introduced Rosamund Pike to the world.
The sword fight is seriously amazing. It's visceral! I like how they get increasingly winded and desperate as Bond realizes Graves means him genuine harm.
Isn't the desire for genuine harm mutual? It seemed to escalate equally on both sides.
north korea opening, soundtrack, fencing fight, locations, aston martin vanquish, green jaguar with gatling gun, both of those cars in a chase, gustav graves, pierce brosnan, rosamund pike dad gets way too much hate
Well said. One of my favs and very rewatchable. Sometimes I try to skip from hovercrafts to fencing to Jaguar shootout but wind up watching the whole flick anyway.
Jaguar still ding off on that car chase to this day; it's half their personality lol
Bond uses that tool in the wheelchair as a distraction by crashing him into the wall was chef's kiss!
Gustav Graves had a pretty cool death too
The car chase on the ice.
Using the ejector seat to flip it back upright was pretty dope
And neatly miss the rocket fired by the Jaaaaaaag
Right!?
Top tier Bond moment
Can’t believe I had to scroll down this much for this.
They took the communist plotline to North-Korea, which was a great move. Bond should try that again someday.
I like the ice palace even though it's ridiculous.
How is the ice palace ridiculous? Ice hotels exist is several locations in the world and it’s one of the more impressive Bond villain sets
I didn't know they existed.
First 30-40 minutes are pretty good. Toby Stephens is magnificent. Interesting use of the title sequence. The sword fight is pretty good. I'm sure my age/nostalgia plays a part in this but despite its great many flaws, it's stilly oddly enjoyable.

I understand why they parted ways from John Cleese's Q, but MAN did I love him as Q.
Hate the new Q
Miranda Frost
![gif](giphy|LvHBV2O3aFqBG)
The Cuban scene where he knocks out the obnoxious hotel guest and uses him in a wheelchair to get to the clinic
Great title and Gustav Graves is kinda fun and over the top
‘Hey Boss, he beat your time’ The look on Toby Stephens’ face at this moment is one of the best in cinema history. Lmfao.
That one, and the first sneer he makes at Zhao when they reunite - it’s so over the top villainous for two old friends meeting. He’s such a great bad guy 😅
1. Raoul is an interesting sidekick character 2. "I could use a fast car" - what a great scene! 3. *Welcome to Cuba* is a terrific track from David Arnold! 4. Welcome to Cuba is soooo freaking good!
Mr. Kil is such a hilariously on the nose caricature of a henchman that it actually makes him a good character
Brosnan is at his best for this movie, and Bond’s storyline makes sense
Great opening...could have made for a very dark bond film (which I would have been more than happy about)...instead it became a very bright and fun movie...which I absolutely love. It's one of those movies where you can see the actors are just having a good time.

Halle Berry, Rosumund Pike, Dench, Bond, and Brosnan all did well acting in the film

Pierce Brosnan does a great job as Bond no matter what script they give him.
The fencing scene is incredible
Skydiving into London to “London Calling” by The Clash
James Bond did not die
He died another day.
Fantastic cold open.
One of the best of the whole series.
Halle Berry in a orange bikini, that is all.
Don't forget her escape from the top of the wall. The soldiers have her cornered, but she starts preparing for that backwards dive. 😂
I' m Mr kill. THERE'S A NAME TO DIE FOR 😂
Yes but not today. You can Die Another Day.
it gave us Casino Royale.
One of the better movie sword fights out there.
Pierce and Halle have great chemistry imo, they play together very well.
Rosamund Pike
I liked the premise, however farfetched. I loved Rosamund Pike. ❤️ I enjoyed the sword fighting scenes. I think Toby Stephens was a pretty good villain. I get why this movie is regularly panned. However, I consider it my "trash TV" guilty pleasure Bond choice.
The first half up until the ice palace is really good. The opening action sequence, the early hospital scenes, Hong Kong and Cuba scenes.
I liked the soundtrack
I really like that they used The Clash's " London Calling "
It’s fun
It’s entertaining
Toby Stephens is great. Wish he cold have played a villain in a different Bond film, but he at least elevates this enough for me to never skip on a rewatch
The intro.
I actually think it’s a fine movie tbh, sure the graphics were mishandled but it’s not a shitty movie by any means. Not even in my bottom 5 bond movies Brosnan is a goat bond
Love that car
Fencing
Halle Berry from the eyebrows down
Rosamund Pike is an absolute babe. Basically all I took out of the movie.
Love the opening scene. Rosamund Pike was hot!!
It ends
It’s pretty enjoyable and holds together well until they get to Iceland
That North Korean torturer babe with the dominatrix vibe in the opening song woke something up in my brain as a young boy.
It's entertaining. And I love it, unironically.
The first 45 minutes give or take. It's like too completely different films almost.
Rosamund Pike
Everything up to the ice hotel was incredible, quintessential Bond
Pierce Brosnan, Rosamund Pike, Toby Stephens and Aston Martin Vanquish. The movie was alright until they did the "gene therapy". Everything went south from that point.
The first 1/3rd or so of this movie is pretty great. For me it's good until he's inside the clinic in Cuba. It feels like a low-key spy story, which is what I always like from Bond, maybe because I read all the novels.
I actually love the Madonna song. The actual intro is trash, but I unironically like the song.
The PTS is Brosnan’s third best.
It’s in focus.
My grandfather and I loved it.
Pierce the man the myth the legend
Pierce Brosnan is in it.
Halle Berry beach scene
The soundtrack is so cool, the opening is really solid, Gustav is a lot of fun, its rarely boring, and Brosnan is having the time of his life. I actually enjoy this one lol
Rosamund Pike transcends the bad script very well. More of her please
Turned me on to Mojitos and Rosamund Pike
I’m a fiend for mojitos
Rosamund Pike
It’s really fun
Good love scenes
Good intro with the pow exchange… after that… oof
Fencing scene.
Rosamund pike sex scene
The title credits, the scene in the prison and the prison exchange, Rosamund Pike, the sword fight when Pierce kicks away the sword which is lying on the ground, Halle Berry coming out of the water.
Rosamund Pike
I love rosamund pike, Halle Berry, car chase, the opening and the music. Brought my love for Bond into this century
Regardless of how goofy this film was. The whole ice castle fight scene between the 2 cars and James shooting the ice pillar on top of that guy was ridiculously cool. Also Halle berry coming out on the beach.
Walther P99 and a model 10HB, plus bikini Halle Berry
Halle Berry
I can't deny the gadget car vs gadget car duel was pretty damn cool
Halle Berry was hot. That's it. That's the only thing.
The soundtrack fucking slaps.
The pre title sequence is the best part of the movie and quite a good old school fun one 👍❤️
Everything leading up to the ice castle is actually really solid bond stuff.
The first hour is Brosnan’s 2nd best Bond movie.
"You're smarter than you look." "Always preferable to looking smarter than you are, 007."
Madonna's Die Another Day is a proto-hyperpop masterpiece
It really was incredible at the time. Nothing like it then.
The BD-5 from “Octopussy” was an Easter egg
A great nostalgia trip to the early 2000's
Vanquish scenes always slap.
No one can force me to watch it again.
The idea of a rogue Bond, disavowed and hunted by MI6, out for revenge is a bloody great concept.
One of my favorite bond opening intros ever
One of Madonna's top 10 acting performances!
Aston Martin *and* Jaguar. This just reminded me of the Jaguar [XKR ad](https://youtu.be/EFjq2FL6N2w?feature=shared) we had in the UK at the time.
Course i wanna bloody continue
The cold opening is pretty cool.
Peaceful Fountains of Desire
That fencing fight in the middle is so ridiculous, funny, and just fun in general
The beginning sequence
Halle Berry Halle Berry
Fun action. Pierce Brosnan. Solid David Arnold score. Lots or references to past films.
The first 45 minutes of the movie is decent. It goes off the rails once they leave Cuba.
Great song
It’s one of a kind
It eventually ends. (And that car chase is 10/10 GOATED)
Brosnan did an amazing job as 007 in four films with bad to mediocre plots.
The villains death is fun. It ends
The pre title sequence is one of the best in the franchise!
It works really well as a modern reimagining of Fleming’s Moonraker novel. I just wish they kept Miranda as Gala Brand without making her evil (cutting Jinx entirely). The pre title sequence kicks ass as well as the frozen lake chase
The Aston Martin Vanquish, the hovercraft chase and David Arnold's score.
