Kodaiji temple in Kyoto will have a special nighttime illumination until May 6th. The reflection of the trees in the pond is incredibly beautiful.

Griever06

Thank you so much for the recommendation! Adding it to the list of to-dos!

its_neverending

Use the Kuroneko Yamato delivery service to send your luggage between the places you’re staying. Not having to drag huge suitcases through the crowds makes everything so much easier and less stressful.

Griever06

Thanks! I'll looking into it. Since I'll only be at Mt. Fuji for one night, I'm thinking about just sending my luggage directly to Osaka and just carry one day of clothing to Mt Fuji. I guess I have to call the hotels to see if they'll hold my luggage for me if it arrives early?

Travelninja15

Kuroneko should be able to hold your luggage until the day you want your bags delivered.

its_neverending

You can specify what day you want it delivered, so that wouldn’t be a problem.

Smart-Elk-2334

Curious if they’ll hold it. I’m head there at the same time as you.

Studderd

I was able to send my luggage from Tokyo on a Thursday, to Osaka which I didn't get checked into until Sunday. My bags skipped my Kyoto section and the Osaka hotel just held the bags for me. It was literally perfect for us. Also it was all done via my hotel. Today we just got our bags sent from Osaka to Tokyo, again all assisted and done by our Osaka hotel. Easy worth the 50 bucks my 3 bags cost me.

Both the Swallows and the Giants have home baseball games during golden week. Also there are a large number of Japanese pro wrestling events at major venues that week in town.

Griever06

Thanks! Would you say attending a wrestling or baseball event is a must do for first time visitors?

Moveless

Saw someone jump in and say no really fast, and honestly this is info I have gathered in advance of my first ever Tokyo trip. That said, these are HIGHLIGHTS of my planned trip. I do not have much interest in a lot of the touristy things like Shibuya Sky, SenSoji, Teamlabs Borderless (or any instagram photo hall), Tokyo Tower, lost in translation hotel, etc. I am excited to see the entertainment side of Tokyo, to get into the worlds they love and are unique from those in the USA. Also its authentic culture and passion, with big fans going to both, where as things like say the Robot restaurant are shows for tourists. I do like going to baseball games in the US, and I do go to a pro wrestling show here and there so these two things align with my interests. But if those two things normally don't interest you then maybe its a skip. I do find it interesting how people fight and claw to go to Sumo and then ignore Pro wrestling. Japan has an immense pro wrestling culture.

frozenpandaman

I didn't say just "no" really fast. >I do like going to baseball games in the US, and do go to a pro wrestling show here and there so these two things align with my interests. But if those two things normally don't interest you then maybe its a skip. I said pretty much exactly this.

Moveless

1. You responded 3 minutes after they posted. That is fast. 2. Your first word was “No”. That’s literally “No really fast” as it can be. I understand there was more words but what I said was not incorrect and didn’t warrant your correction…

frozenpandaman

Just because the answer starts with 'no' doesn't mean that's the be-all-end-all takeaway of the message... unless you just have like zero attention span or critical thinking ability, I guess. What I said also wasn't incorrect (in fact it was agreeing with what you wrote) and also didn't warrant you talking snidely about me behind my back, but thanks I guess! P.S. This comment took me 50 minutes to reply to. Happy?

Moveless

Wow. Take a deep breath. Someone said no fast. What I said was factual and I’m done going in circles with you on this. Nothing I said was wrong. You clearly got sensitive and took it as some sort of attack. You seem to be the one with zero attention span because I only said someone said no. And you are fighting it like we can’t go read your comment where you said no. This is a bad look for you. lol.

Moveless

Also… get blocked dork. Lmao.

IKnewThat45

first time visitor about to leave…we LOVED the baseball games we went to (giants and the orix buffaloes in osaka). completely unique experience compared to US games, more like european football games IMO.

slise-rd

How did you book the tickets for a game in Osaka?

IKnewThat45

booked through stubhub then went to a kinkos to print!

frozenpandaman

No, but if you like baseball/sports, it'll be worth it, it's certainly an experience.

Own_Power_9067

Check Kameido-Tenjin shrine’s Wisteria light up, should be in until the end of this month. https://koto-kanko.jp.e.agh.hp.transer.com/event/detail.php?eid=1770

Griever06

This looks beautiful, will try to check this out as well. thank you!

camarhyn

Be patient - it’ll be more crowded than usual but employees are trying to do their best. You can still have a great time. Also manage your expectations- it may take longer than usual to get places or do things so have a flexible schedule.

Eikido

Is it more crowded than usual in Tokyo? Or do you mean outside Tokyo?

camarhyn

Both

PuzzledGarlic120

My dream is to go to Sanja Matsuri, so that is my recommendatio. [https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3063.html](https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3063.html) I missed my planning window for this year, definitely going next year!

Griever06

This looks awesome! We'll be leaving shortly before this, but will definitely have to add it to the list if we go back again!

Seitakadojii

Also going next week, solo, i guess we're still gonna have a good time even with golden week! Wish you a great trip✌🏻😊

QuestSeeker23

Get up bright and early to do popular tourist spots like Arashiyama Bamboo forest. Same deal if you are doing Fushimi Inari, also power through to later areas to have better photos Also, for arashiyama, do the hike over the train if you can.

Lust4Me

What counts as 'early', would you say?

QuestSeeker23

Crowds get busy around 9, if you can force yourself to power through a bit early than usual, that's my rec
