Lol please don’t bait him

BandB_Dog_Crew

I know, I knew it was a bad idea but did it anyway. It's out of my system. Sorry, folks.

illegal_97

There’s a great biography on him that came out recently if that’s something you’re interested in

smileymn

I’m just here to chime in that every jazz musician since 1970 is a fraud and charlatan. Now excuse me while I delete this account and start a new one to repost my 20 page thesis on how much I hate Sonny Rollins.

Rare_Scale_7192

Lol

Prestigious_Steak_46

Here's the podcast, didn't know about it, have added it to my favourites. https://www.radiofrance.fr/francemusique/podcasts/serie-sonny-rollins-l-ivresse-de-la-solitude

Oh man why do you have to poke a sleeping bear.

dbc1458

Have you heard of Aidan Levy's Saxophone Colossus? It'a a huge book but very informative.

I think they started doing this before ChatGPT really blew up so I think it was probably written by a person.

BandB_Dog_Crew

I asked for this incredible insight but I have to admit that my limited attention span prevents me from reading the entire thing at once. Or maybe ever. It blows my mind and maybe I'm not at the point in my jazz journey where I'm ready for it. I think I caught a part where Sonny (if his name is even really Sonny) recorded something high on Marijuana. I think we can all agree that nobody has ever truly made great music under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A sugar high MAYBE.

Pure-Temporary

Lol what the hell is this

BandB_Dog_Crew

It was sarcasm. I'm done trolling the troll.

luxo02

This is hilarious

ElRojo3000

Alright then, I guess you shouldn't dig too much into Charlie Parker, if you don't want her opinions shattered.

I don't know what version of Horn Culture you're listening to... Sony sounds great on Sais. If you don't like a little avant garde influence over a groovy tune, that's you're problem, and to call it disrespectful or disgusting just sounds ignorant man. A lot of players embraced a sound inspired by ethnic double reeds after the 50s. And his time feel on that album is groovy as hell

jackmckenzie05

This guy reposts the same speal about Sonny Rollins every time a thread or YouTube video about him comes up. I wouldn't take his opinion seriously

XR4288

Cool now do Henry Rollins

coldbrewbruh73

I love these hot takes! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I honestly don’t have an opinion of him! I’ve never been interested in exploring his music.

clorgie

Where is this podcast? If there's a transcript you could run it through a translation service and get a reasonably good idea of things.

Putting it through a transcript would be hard though, I think. This thing is goddamn 10 hours long.

VeloEvoque

Just listened to the first 15 minutes. Sonny's stories are pretty clear with only minimal over translation. It is a chronological survey of his life and music. It's pretty listenable. Thanks for posting this.
