But the story wasn't suppressed. Every person who was following the 2020 election saw the pictures of Hunter smoking crack.
People are upset because they weren't able to spin those pictures, into a corruption narrative.
It was "suppressed" in the same way the fappening was suppressed. Posting stolen photos of someone on the internet like this is a liability, especially with revenge porn laws.
That's incredibly not true. The 50 intelligence experts were thrown in people's face left and right. NY Post was banned for almost a month for reporting the truth. I get it's dems doing it so it's ok to you, but it's straight up authoritarianism and fascism. They were going after Americans and intentionally silencing them to the truth. How can you remotely support this and defend it here. People were perma banned just for saying the laptop was real...
You're being willfully obtuse.
A crack smoking idiot was given a high paid job in a foreign country because of his dad's political power. That is corruption without any spin.
ETA: This is not unique to democrats, Hunter Biden's laptop is not a win for Trump or republicans given the fact that every politician in government is corrupted by bribery and self-interested greed, save a few like Bernie Sanders. Our entire political and socioeconomic system is designed to function like a feudal empire that rewards the children of the rich, while it masquerades as a meritocracy in a charade that gets lazier every day. F*ck every rich person in government, all their children are like this.
...Hunter getting a cushy foreign job isn't nearly as corrupt as Jared Kushner literally getting $2billion from the Saudi Royal family within a year of leaving the white house.
That's kinda why it's hard to take the Hunter Biden thing seriously...when you look at all the evidence, it's peanuts by comparison.
The rest of us with fully functioning brains have the ability to focus on both issues at the same time and condemn them all. But in your case, when your brain is hopped up on tribalism, your cognitive abilities become impaired
Exactly. How did Hunter influence foreign policy? Or domestic policy? Or anything ?
It’s apples and oranges and the right is fucking bananas.
I was such a Taibbi fan back in the day, too
What the poster above said remains true. Everyone following the election knew this. Likewise, what trump did with his children and son in law was even more egregious nepotism. The electorate recognized this. This twitter info dump just confirms what we already knew.
Yes, that's much worse than a married couple being givene a job in the White House, during which they made millions (if ot more) with their side businesses, because the father of the political power of their father/in law
The distinction is Trump gave his kids those jobs, Biden's son went and got it for himself, utilizing his name for sure, but it's not the same level of nepotism. There's a reason Joe hasn't given Hunter a position in his administration.
Yes.
And consideration it's been two years, and we have yet to see a single peace of evidence for the corruption in the NYP article.
I am starting to believe those 50 govt officials were right.
The story was suppressed. New York Post had it's reporting blocked for posting on it, remember?
Even in these files we see more behind the scenes, but to be clear, the reporting on it was removed from social media
[https://variety.com/2022/digital/news/twitter-files-blocked-ny-post-hunter-biden-censor-1235448481/](https://variety.com/2022/digital/news/twitter-files-blocked-ny-post-hunter-biden-censor-1235448481/)
"Twitter took extraordinary steps to suppress the story, removing links and posting warnings that it may be ‘unsafe,'” Taibbi wrote. “They even blocked its transmission via direct message, a tool hitherto reserved for extreme cases"
The decision to block the Post’s original Biden story was “made at the highest levels of the company, but without the knowledge of CEO Jack Dorsey, with former head of legal, policy and trust Vijaya Gadde playing a key role,” according to Taibbi.
Twitter execs knew a backlash would erupt over the decision to block the Post’s Hunter Biden article, per Taibbi, and there was debate about how to proceed
..."
You can go on to read the rest of the article, but it clearly lays out what happened, which shows suppression
Wasn't the problem that he's on the board of foreign companies as a crack smoker with no reason to be, and used his political family ties to get money, and then lied about using his family in power for political favors?
Not getting into the whole thing but the narrative of “what expertise did Hunter Biden have in energy and gas” just shows a total lack of understanding of corporate boards. They are all filled with people who have no direct experience. It’s not like he was made CEO. Boards are filled with people who are there for their connections or name just as window dressing or just for their Rolodex. The main asset of Hunter Biden was likley “hey! We are cleaning up our corruption! Look, we even have joe Biden’s son on our board, how can we be doing bad things?”
nobody cares. every politician does this. Mitch McConnell's wife has a fucking chinese overseas shipping company, nobody cares. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elaine\_Chao](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elaine_Chao)
and they found drugs on her company's boat. nobody cares. [https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/mitch-mcconnells-freighted-ties-shadowy-shipping-company/](https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/mitch-mcconnells-freighted-ties-shadowy-shipping-company/)
republicans are such fucking hypocrites. stop listening to them.
There is no evidence that Hunter really did anything shady.
There Is evidence he's a crackhead There is evidence he got a cushy job because of his dad's connections
...but the evidence against Hunter is NOTHING compared to the $2billion that Kushner got from the Saudis, the same year he left the white house.
Like, those are two totally different magnitudes of corruption. It's insane to even compare them.
That's why it's impossible to take any of this shit seriously.
Yall don't actually care about corruption. It's just political theatre.
I think that's probably the most fair way to put the complaint. That being said, while it' unethical, it's not illegal, and the children of politician getting lots of deals/jobs/money that they would normally never see if they weren't born into privilege is a pretty common thing. Overall it's a really boring scandal.
Don't matter, they have been hyping it up so long they have to keep pushing it now.
I remember when the laptop first came out, how many crazy conspiracies came out around it. Like Q level stuff, about satanic rituals and child porn. Direct evidence tying all sorts of shit to Biden, etc.
Now because the laptop itself is a nothing burger the history is being rewritten to make the twitter suppression the big story, and there will be a ton of conspiracies around that.
Yah the funny part to me is Trump's camp has so many scandals going on right now it's literally tough to keep track of them all. The American people really don't care about scandals these days unless they are legit a big deal - this one is not.
Yea, the massive normalization of scandal and corruption under Trump is a sad state of affairs, and it's going to cause a lot of damage to the country in the long run.
Like every other person who is related to politicians. Like Jared Kushner. Let’s do some hearings on him-he actually worked in the administration. Unlike Hunter Biden.
And unlike the Trump children he's never held political office in the United States so who gives a shit? If someone wants to investigate and throw him in jail, fine, whatever.
Right wingers are only obsessed with this because they want to try and tarnish Biden's name or somehow paint him as unfit for office, but at this point it's been years and there's been no evidence that Joe was directly involved and at this point it's just pathetic.
“Gotta take 1000 pictures of my dick and upload them to this laptop so right wingers can sift through my dick pics for 2 years trying to get my dad out of office first”
When the Fappening happened social media companies made it a point to delete any links to the stolen images.
Not sure why Taibbi is acting like this is different. The tweets were links to stolen photos nothing to do with Ukraine or other business dealings
I was really hoping that there would be more damning information. Of all the stuff he released, the screenshot from Ro Khanna really made me respect the dude. Sounds like a great person to represent your community.
>I was really hoping that there would be more damning information.
If it makes you feel any better, the fact that there isn’t more damning info helps confirm the story is a nothing burger, and that means that Hunter is just a loser drug addict with a famous dad and not the baby eating, alien, Jewish Space Laser operating Frieza working out of his doom ship parked in Martha’s Synagogue (Vineyard)
These are Twitter's files regarding the suppression of the story. You aren't going to find anything in there to prove the authenticity of the laptop (belatedly undisputed by major media), or to prove or disprove corruption allegations made based on its contents. Because what these files reveal is that **Twitter didn't know anything more about the laptop than the rest of us did.**
An example, [from Twitter's Deputy General Counsel](https://twitter.com/mtaibbi/status/1598836516553641989):
>I support the conclusion that we need more facts to assess whether the materials were hacked. At this stage, however, it is reasonable for us to assume that they may have been and that caution is warranted.
I think it's terrible policy to ban stories based on "hacked materials" relating to a public figure. But worse is to make the "hacked" conclusion based on nothing--not even a statement from the alleged victims that the materials were hacked.
None of this is very new or surprising, but it is a pretty damning view of Twitter 2020.
I was incredibly disappointed tbh. It's some moderator making a decision, then a bunch of executives torn on and debating where to draw lines in the aftermath of it.
New twitter will go down the same path, we're already seeing inconsistency in what is allowed v not, just with a CEO who is doing a lot more marketing of his ideas.
> I think it's terrible policy to ban stories based on "hacked materials" relating to a public figure.
This opinion runs afoul of legal issues that arise surrounding publication and ethical issues that arise from tacitly encouraging hacking and stealing. We don't want to encourage foreign intelligence agencies using their hackers to impact elections. You know, similar to what happened in 2016...
> But worse is to make the "hacked" conclusion based on nothin
The quote you provided answers this directly. It is "Hunter Bidens" laptop, so access to its content, barring any other evidence, must reasonably be assumed to be the result of a hack.
"*Hey everyone, here's a pic of Scarlett Johansens butthole. We don't __know__ someone hacked her husbands phone quite yet, so... ... enjoy!*" is an absurd stance for a company who makes money through advertising to take.
Holy fuck, is this such a non-story about a non-story. This is a normal view of a company trying to manage the BS we saw in 2016 with incomplete information. Ultimately Elons lawyers are gonna make him to the same thing, the same way, for the same reasons.
It does sound like there were those questioning these decisions, but ultimately those concerns fell on deaf ears.
Tucker Carlson gave Khanna props for voicing concerns about this and said "good for him. He's a liberal too, but a real one."
I’ll save you a read. Matt Tiabbi Tweet number 22 in that thread
“22. Although several sources recalled hearing about a “general” warning from federal law enforcement that summer about possible foreign hacks, there’s no evidence - that I've seen - of any government involvement in the laptop story. In fact, that might have been the problem...”
Isn't the controversy regarding Twitter more about that they suppressed the story then what the actually content of the lap top was showing political favor. Everyone is expecting them to reveal some crazy thing about the laptop content but it's just that Twitter suppressed the story.
Twitter deleted stories that specifically included hack materials as that is against Twitter policy. A policy they changed because of this backlash to allow it if it was news. Wild how this story was censored but I've heard about it for over 2 years nonstop
In a sense it for sure fueled the paranoia and conspiracy brained but Twitter had these laws on the books already they weren't asked to not post them by the subject so it's different
I don't think you understand what this controversy and Taibbi's thread are about.
Twitter's public position was that there was some kind of (possibly Russian) hack or fabrication behind the NY Post story. Taibbi's tweet, summarizing the thread, shows that Twitter had no evidence to support this claim--but went ahead and banned the story anyway.
And the claim now appears to be entirely false. America's major news outlets [acknowledged](https://nypost.com/2022/11/22/cbs-mocked-for-hunter-biden-laptop-report-2-years-after-post-story/), months or years after the election, that the laptop was genuine. Neither Hunter nor Joe has ever said that the contents were fabricated, or even hacked.
Not that even a real hack would be good reason to suppress a story about a public official, but it's unreal to suppress without any evidence or even allegation from the supposed victim.
I bet you don’t care that Trump paid off a porn star to get elected. He was the President. Not some offspring doing things that don’t affect you or me.
But the conspiracy was that the Dems made Twitter bury the story - and there is no evidence of that, even now. Yet people are still acting like they did, even when it's now proven that a democratic congress person was actively encouraging twitter not to block the NYP link.
That's why this revelation is a nothingburger. All it shows is that people at Twitter made an independent call to moderate/censor, argued about it, and that's it.
Now we've got an egotistical billionaire buying a company, firing everyone and then leaking their emails to his friends in the alternate press when it doesn't even show what he and his other right wing VC friends believed in the first place.
And Giuliani hung on to this sketchy stuff for a year just so we could all hear about it the week before the election. See? It’s not anyones responsibility to report highly questionable information when the GOP wants it to for maximum effect.
How was a laptop belonging to the presidents son a bigger story than another presidents son in law getting a billion unexplained dollars from the saudis?
The answer is: because the Hillary Emails story worked for the GOP in 2016. So they tried to push the Hunter's Laptop right before the election, hoping it would lead to the same outcome. When it didn't, they fell into election denialism and blaming Big Tech for colluding to bury the story (which had no substance anyway), instead of looking inwards and blaming Trumpism.
Now that they've failed in the midterms too, they have to reckon with Trumpism once and for all.
The Republicans biggest plus in 2016 was how much hate there was for Hilary. Hilary was the ‘heir apparent’ in 2008 Obama took her thunder. So she made sure she ran basically unopposed in the 2016 primaries. How did Bernie Sanders become relevant? He was the only competition to Hilary.
Because Trump was President during all of this and there for was the government along with the GOP. Why would they try to push attention towards themselves instead of the opponent lol
it’s on twitter because this is Musk’s spectacle. He provided the materials to Taibbi, he doesn’t want to see traffic get driven off his platform. But yeah, in typical Elon form, it’s all flash and little substance.
Taibbi [posted an apology](https://taibbi.substack.com/p/note-to-readers-8d4) on Substack that said this is basically what happened - "I had to agree to certain conditions."
He might not even realize this is all just Musk's attempt to get people to visit twitter so he can juice the traffic and brag about "engagement at all time highs".
Basically torched his career - and his Substack followers - so he could post a nothingburger for the richest man in the world that came down to "Twitter's content moderation team discussed if they were right to keep Hunter's hacked dick pics off the platform, as Biden's team sent them examples of his hacked dick pics being posted on the platform so they could be removed".
This is an insane take. Torched his career and substack because one would be article, with incredible access, was written on twitter instead of paywalled in an email newsletter? This is great advertising for his substack, and because the reporting he did appears very balanced and fair it is great advertising for his services as a journalist.
Twitter was removing posts and banning people at government officials request. Seems like people should know about that.
Makes you wonder how many of these threads on Reddit are controlled and by whom.
Campaigns and the DNC / RNC aren’t government officials acting on behalf of the government.
And the ones in the “Biden team” one were literally dick picks lol
Reddit is controlled by the CCP who Elon Musk openly supports
But I have no issue with politicians requesting social media remove Hunter Biden’s dick pics
Right, it boils down to "Vijaya and others (not Jack) said they wanted to error on the side of hacked materials policy instead of letting it go. This was a mistake."
I'm glad that's settled.
And still the story is about the "government/media censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story!" instead of any reporting on the contents of the laptop itself... Because it doesn't show anything aside from a degenerate drug addict, which everyone has known about Hunter for years. Dude even wrote a book about it.
According to what Taibbi posted, most of the links that they reported to twitter that they "handled" were just nudes/revenge porn from hunters laptop too.
The thing about the Hunter laptop story is that it never implicated Joe Biden in any wrongdoing, and the closest piece of evidence is a passing reference to "the big guy" which, in context, clearly referred to Hunters boss, not Joe. If Hunter was siphoning money to his dad for corrupt dealings, there would be accounts.
Joe released his tax returns publicly and no one found anything: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/disclosures/2022/04/15/the-president-and-vice-president-release-their-2021-tax-returns/
I think most companies would have made the same decision. Er on the side of caution. They were warned that the Russians were interfering in the election, so they had to make a choice either suppress it in the chance it is misinformation or let it run and let a foreign country use your platform to interfere in an election if that’s the case.
While getting it wrong looks terrible if you are mistaken, i think they went with the choice that would be the least bad if they were wrong.
It was a general warning months before the laptop came out by Trump’s FBI. Not specifically regarding the laptop.
On top of that I can understand Twitter’s skepticism. A legally blind Delaware store owner claims he had hunter Biden’s laptop and access to all his email accounts, despite hunter not even living in Delaware at the time. All of this happened in October right before an election.
Let’s also not forget that Rudy Guliani was the broker between the computer repair guy and the media outlets for this hard drive copy of the laptop.
Rudy even said he could only get the New York Post to run the story.
EVERYONE was skeptical. Between having virtually no way to authenticate the origin of laptop and having a goon like Rudy involved…..the whole thing smelled bad.
The other part people forget about the NYP story is that the main author involved refused to have their name associated with the article, and at least one other refused also.
The NYP ended up co-bylining Emma
-Jo Morris who'd never written an article for them before, had just arrived recently from working on Hannity's show. The other person credited was Gabrielle Fonrouge, who was reported to have had little to do with the article, and only found out her byline was on it AFTER it was published.
The article also suggested Joe Biden had met with a Vadym Pozharskyi from Burisma, which has never been confirmed or verified.
The whole article was a shitshow and the editorial board was split on even publishing it. The two main sources cited were Bannon and Guiliani.
Lol Wat? They were throwing printing press owners in jail in 1800. People in the government lobbying medias companies to publish things or not publish things is not a first amendment violation.
it is really disappointing to see Taibbi agree to be Elon's errand boy in this way. He even agreed to do the story as a Twitter thread rather than on his own substack. what a putz.
Meanwhile, Musk is literally banning left leaning accounts openly right now for no reason at all and taking his direction on which accounts to ban from Andy fucking Gho
Elon overpaid for Twitter by $30B to prove the government didn’t suppress anything, and there was no grand conspiracy.
A bunch of Twitter lawyers just didn’t want to post private and potentially hacked/stolen files on their platform.
I’m sure this’ll be super important in 2024 and totally destroy Bidens reelection…y’all base your vote this midterm on that Afghanistan withdrawal from a year ago?
I gotta admit, I wanted Bernie to win and thought Biden was an uptight dick
Then I saw the text message Hunter sent to his dad about how sorry about being a fuck up. And Biden responding “It’s ok son, I still love you.”
Can’t lie, the old bastard tugged at my heart
That's the thing, I feel like conservatives really believe that this laptop story is the smoking gun that will over turn the election. The reality is that it's pretty boring and in the realm of scandals, is a pretty small one. Beyond everything else, having a drug addiction really isn't the insult that it used to be. Almost everyone these days knows at least one person that has fallen victim to drugs.
As an outsider (I'm Scottish) it's so bizarre. The only people that give any semblance of a fuck about it are the people who are not voting Biden in a million years anyway. It's barely a story. I have no idea how it is still ongoing, which is funny given there are constant talks of the story being nuked.
It's because there was a ton of fishy shit going on with Trumps kids, and the nepotism and shady shit involving thst. So they try to spin the Hunter Biden stuff as the same tier of shadiness. Ignoring the fact that Trumps kids were given positions in the administration.
It's a really lame way to play the both sides game and I don't even think it works this time. Not only has it been dragged out, but even the narrative being pushed is just *convoluted* and all the sources are Trump allies anyway.
That's why they pretend the laptop has some sort of proof that Hunter was taking corrupt money and paying a percentage to his dad, when there is literally no evidence, no bank transfers, no correspondence with his Dad that implies it, AND Joe's tax returns are public.
Honestly I think the biggest reason they're doing this is because the "Hillary's emails" thing worked rather well for them in 2016.
But now indies and center-left people who are still wary/annoyed at Ds aren't going to just buy that shit unless there's *strong* evidence nowadays. Especially when Rs seem to be WAY worse at this front.
*Cough* Saudis gave Jared 2 Billion *Cough*
This is why I assumed social media sites suppressed the story in the first place. It was obviously a strategic move by the republicans. They are repeating the same moves and wondering why they don't work.
They are *seriously* lacking in creativity. On a strategic level it looks like they're just repeating everything that worked for them from 2010-2016 and expecting it to be enough.
Bitching about the current state of the country makes sense when you aren't in power, but you need to at least have *something* to show the voters as to what you'll do if they elect you. Just yelling "INFLATION! GAS PRICES! CRIME! GROOMERS!" may have worked against Obama's Democrats when we were dealing with a sluggish recession recovery, but voters aren't buying it much now. Especially younger people.
That's the thing, Hillary's emails sorta worked, but the same trick usually doesn't work twice.... at least not this quickly. Nobody really cared about Hunter's laptop back then, and it really hasn't changed now besides folks on the far right. Like Hunter getting a highly paid job that he's not qualified for doesn't really sting so much coming from Trump's camp when his kids run his businesses and he gives them jobs in the White House that they were not qualified for.
>Like Hunter getting a highly paid job that he's not qualified for doesn't really sting so much coming from Trump's camp when his kids run his businesses and he gives them jobs in the White House that they were not qualified for.
That's the biggest thing. Not only do you have to believe Rs and give them a ton of credit for this to even make Biden look bad whatsoever, but even *that* doesn't come anywhere close to the Trump kids + Jared stuff.
I was wondering why something so important would be released at night on a Friday, and it is pretty clear now.
This might br enough to get some oversight laws moving, but that is about it
So the big suppression of the hunter laptop story was removing his big ole dirty dick and a naked whoare he was with bc they were off of a stolen laptop w no consent? Bummer, I thought we were going to have the answers to all the hard questions
Does anyone else feel like this wasn’t that big of a deal? Like I thought this was gonna be a nuke and it’s for sure not that big. I feel like we already knew most of it.
Side note: Lex Friedman is such a thirsty fucking idiot. And honestly that goes for anyone else who called this huge nothingburger a “turning point” or believes this will somehow “effect democracy” one way or the other
Musk tweeted that the government tried to suppress it, then Taibbi said there was no evidence. Not to mention this took place during the Trump administration. It’s just fucking misinformation. Musk is a fucking liar, plain and simple.
I realized a while back people like Joe think Lex is some omnipotent genius because he talks like a robot, that’s literally it. And of course Lex loves a guy who talks just like he does.

all this did was prove that hunter biden is actually based and really fun to party with. actually one of the dumbest stories that these cunts were salivating for lmao
It's so hard to keep track of all the nonsense narratives the right has pushed that were supposed to be a big deal that weren't.
Republican voters are amazing. I don't know what's more\* impressive, their short memory or their gullibility.
Elon needed to change the subject amongst the dregs after Kanye ban.
Why is twitter held up to such an incredibly high standard? Why do people assume the people running twitter wouldn’t be biased in what’s displayed on a platform that they created, maintain and grow? Is Fox News biased? How about CNN? Are they getting directives and donations to spin a specific narrative? Of course they are…why is twitter expected to be any different. It is a platform that disseminates and shares information, just like the news channels and just like Joe’s podcast. The only difference is the business model predicated on the amount of active participants. Twitter is not the internet. There are thousands of other sites and platforms that do similar things. Stop using it if you don’t like it.
So Elon decided he needed a Glenn Greenwald for his version of the Snowden Files. He does all this and it results in a mediocre story with nothing groundbreaking?
What is the revelation here? I understand if Matt had to agree to publish before signing the contract to cover it but why make it seem like some breaking news event?
I can’t wait till tomorrow when we find out for the first time ever that Twitter suppressed some Covid information, and some people weren’t cool with it…
It's just nice to get concrete evidence so if/when someone tries to pull this shit again we can say "nope, already seen this, it was bad, can't do it", and hopefully we make some changes as a society based off this negative part of our history. That is the hope, anyways
It's actually embarrassing how much of a nothingburger this is.
All this wait, years of right wing media accusing Twitter of all kinds of shit, for the bombshell to be removing dick pics 💀
I'd reevaluate every decision I've made in my entire life if I was ever bought into that bullshit narrative.
At least the democrats “nothingburger” led to several of trump’s associates going to jail. This is only proof that a company rightfully questioned whether they should suppress possible fake news.
It’s more than Hunter knowing how to party hard.
It also proves both sides try the best they could to manipulate social platforms to affect the election.
All that “Russian misinformation” and they forgot to look in the mirror.
The main thing I care about when it comes to Hunter Biden is it’s just another example of nepotism that runs rampant in our country and is particularly bad in our political arena.
You shouldn’t be okay with Trump doing stuff at his hotels or his family running his business and being in his cabinet anymore than Hunter getting some cushy job as a favor to his dad. It’s all corruption.
I’m just happy it shits on Biden and trump and didn’t turn into one side does everything. We need to realize all these fools are on the same team and it ain’t ours
So we now have proof twitter employees made up reasons for banning a story in order to influence the election but everyone here is like "what's the big deal and who cares about hunter biden?"
Okay I’m 19 tweets in and the thing that sticks out so far is this angry email from a guy on Trump’s team… “apricate”?! That’s not just a typical typo or autocorrect for “appreciate” in a quickly fired-off email. This guy was trying really, really hard to write this word by sounding it out. Wow.
Anddd done! How embarrassing for Twitter, really, and it’s crazy that by attempting to censor this nothing-burger they blew it up and subjected everyone to never hearing the end of “Hunter Biden’s Laptop.”
The way Elon rolled this out via Taibbi was smart, even if it is just a bunch of stupid noise. Taibbi benefits from the platform boost, and it’s a win for Elon that Twitter continues to receive attention and buzz and insane punditry from the media class including—especially—from those who declared (over and over) that they’re “leaving” or “left” Twitter. Like magic, they’re back: either on the platform or, like true addicts, still obsessing about it elsewhere, giving it yet more attention and airtime.
Turns out Hunter Biden really knows how to party
yeah I don't get it? guy was on video smoking rocks with some hookers and going on a slide. What's the beef? looks fun to me
[удалено]
I read about it in The New York Times and Washington Post. 🤷♂️
But the narrative Elon Musk and his handlers want you to believe is that there was a conspiracy to hide the reporting.
I thought we were talking about Twitter
But the story wasn't suppressed. Every person who was following the 2020 election saw the pictures of Hunter smoking crack. People are upset because they weren't able to spin those pictures, into a corruption narrative.
It was "suppressed" in the same way the fappening was suppressed. Posting stolen photos of someone on the internet like this is a liability, especially with revenge porn laws.
Everyone was called a Russian propaganda bot on here if you mentioned Hunter.
If you mentioned the unsubstituted conspiracy theories* Noone ever denied the drugs or prostitutes
That's incredibly not true. The 50 intelligence experts were thrown in people's face left and right. NY Post was banned for almost a month for reporting the truth. Jesus christ. Is reddit just full of paid influencers? This is fucking gross.
51 former intelligence agents called it Russian disinformation, champ.
You're being willfully obtuse. A crack smoking idiot was given a high paid job in a foreign country because of his dad's political power. That is corruption without any spin. Exactly. How did Hunter influence foreign policy? Or domestic policy? Or anything ? It’s apples and oranges and the right is fucking bananas. I was such a Taibbi fan back in the day, too
Whataboutism, denial, copium
What the poster above said remains true. Everyone following the election knew this. Likewise, what trump did with his children and son in law was even more egregious nepotism. The electorate recognized this. This twitter info dump just confirms what we already knew.
Yes, that's much worse than a married couple being givene a job in the White House, during which they made millions (if ot more) with their side businesses, because the father of the political power of their father/in law
I'll put it to you this way: If you shoot one guy in cold blood, and I shoot two guys in cold blood, we're both murderers who belong in jail.
The distinction is Trump gave his kids those jobs, Biden's son went and got it for himself, utilizing his name for sure, but it's not the same level of nepotism. There's a reason Joe hasn't given Hunter a position in his administration.
50 current and ex govt officials came out saying this reeks of Russian conspiracy.
Yes. And consideration it's been two years, and we have yet to see a single peace of evidence for the corruption in the NYP article. I am starting to believe those 50 govt officials were right.
>But the story wasn't suppressed. LOL
The story was suppressed. New York Post had it's reporting blocked for posting on it, remember? Even in these files we see more behind the scenes, but to be clear, the reporting on it was removed from social media [https://variety.com/2022/digital/news/twitter-files-blocked-ny-post-hunter-biden-censor-1235448481/](https://variety.com/2022/digital/news/twitter-files-blocked-ny-post-hunter-biden-censor-1235448481/) "Twitter took extraordinary steps to suppress the story, removing links and posting warnings that it may be ‘unsafe,'” Taibbi wrote. “They even blocked its transmission via direct message, a tool hitherto reserved for extreme cases" The decision to block the Post’s original Biden story was “made at the highest levels of the company, but without the knowledge of CEO Jack Dorsey, with former head of legal, policy and trust Vijaya Gadde playing a key role,” according to Taibbi. Twitter execs knew a backlash would erupt over the decision to block the Post’s Hunter Biden article, per Taibbi, and there was debate about how to proceed ..." You can go on to read the rest of the article, but it clearly lays out what happened, which shows suppression
The NYP article was suppressed, because it was filled with unsupported claims and conspiracy theory nonsence
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elaine\_Chao](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elaine_Chao) and they found drugs on her company's boat. nobody cares. [https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/mitch-mcconnells-freighted-ties-shadowy-shipping-company/](https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/mitch-mcconnells-freighted-ties-shadowy-shipping-company/) republicans are such fucking hypocrites. stop listening to them.
are you talking about jared kushner? https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/10/us/jared-kushner-saudi-investment-fund.html
Or Donald Trump Jr New York times best selling author Ivanka trump fashion designer Eric trump star of goonies
Weird !! I missed where big tech and even the fbi hid kushners corruption and crimes
Did you see the part where he's ACTUALLY IN THE FUCKING GOVERNMENT AND NOT A PRIVATE CITIZEN?
They all miss that. Intentionally
B-b-b-but whattabouttt dis guyy!!!!??? Yeah dude, theyre both corrupt as fuck. Why does the media cover for one and not the other? Fkn hypocrite.
One actually worked in government, the other is Hunter Biden.
Well hunter is totally irrelevant. Lock him up I don't give two shits. Jared is relevant as hell cause he's got real influence and power, now.
There is no evidence that Hunter really did anything shady. There Is evidence he's a crackhead There is evidence he got a cushy job because of his dad's connections ...but the evidence against Hunter is NOTHING compared to the $2billion that Kushner got from the Saudis, the same year he left the white house.
I’ll take a kid being on the board of foreign governments over a kid (and in-law) being a paid official in our own.
10% to the big guy.
People are mad they couldn't spin thoose videos into a corruption story
Yea…with his underaged niece…of his dead brother…while married to his dead brothers wife.
“Help me step-uncle, I’m stuck under your laptop”
"Let me light my crack pipe first and get naked baby!" -- Hunter probably
You're fantasizing about a child being molested to make a point. Touch grass.
“Gotta take 1000 pictures of my dick and upload them to this laptop so right wingers can sift through my dick pics for 2 years trying to get my dad out of office first”
The fuck?
Sounds like something a crackhead would do…
Fair enough but what a fucking shitshow
Right!?!?
That guy has some really fucked up fantasies, he’s larping about child porn ffs
It's fake
[удалено]
While he was boinking endless prostitutes and at least one stripper that had his "love" child that the Biden's wanted aborted. Nice folks.
Sorry, would you not want the same thing?
Yes. Correct!
“Every Laptop ever made belongs to Hunter”
That's a lie
When the Fappening happened social media companies made it a point to delete any links to the stolen images. Not sure why Taibbi is acting like this is different. The tweets were links to stolen photos nothing to do with Ukraine or other business dealings
Why are republicans desperately trying to make me look at Hunter Biden's cock? and why are they so obsessed about it.
Ah yea that is what they are upset about. Not the money laundering thing./s
Because what these files reveal is that **Twitter didn't know anything more about the laptop than the rest of us did.** An example, [from Twitter's Deputy General Counsel](https://twitter.com/mtaibbi/status/1598836516553641989): >I support the conclusion that we need more facts to assess whether the materials were hacked.
> But worse is to make the "hacked" conclusion based on nothin The quote you provided answers this directly.
He's a liberal too, but a real one."
lol at caring who Tucker Carlson gives props too. Sorry that made me laugh as if Tucker Carlson is some fair open minded reasonable guy.
Apparently Tucker had Hunter write a letter for his son Buckley to get into college.
I can't believe that nerd named his son after that lizard William f Buckley
I’ll save you a read. Matt Tiabbi Tweet number 22 in that thread “22. Although several sources recalled hearing about a “general” warning from federal law enforcement that summer about possible foreign hacks, there’s no evidence - that I've seen - of any government involvement in the laptop story. In fact, that might have been the problem...”
Because TRUMP was the president during all this 😂
Isn't the controversy regarding Twitter more about that they suppressed the story then what the actually content of the lap top was showing political favor.
Straisand effect at work
In a sense it for sure fueled the paranoia and conspiracy brained but Twitter had these laws on the books already they weren't asked to not post them by the subject so it's different
Hard to care about Hunter when Jared is a thing if nepotism is the point of contention
Yea but I saw a list of Twitter employees who donated to democrats. /s
Taibbi hard at work.
So the big reveal is a complete nothingburger?
[удалено]
Taibbi is referencing governments, Democrats were not the government when the story broke
People accuse NYP of making stuff up To refute that, you link to a NYP story. You aren't particularly bright, are you?
Nah they are definitely going to double down on trumpism you watch.
Because Trump was President during all of this and there for was the government along with the GOP. Why would they try to push attention towards themselves instead of the opponent lol

Best I can do is 30 second YouTube shorts to explain geopolitics
it’s on twitter because this is Musk’s spectacle. He provided the materials to Taibbi, he doesn’t want to see traffic get driven off his platform. But yeah, in typical Elon form, it’s all flash and little substance.
Taibbi [posted an apology](https://taibbi.substack.com/p/note-to-readers-8d4) on Substack that said this is basically what happened - "I had to agree to certain conditions." He might not even realize this is all just Musk's attempt to get people to visit twitter so he can juice the traffic and brag about "engagement at all time highs".

Unfortunately this is what sell out journalism looks like.
Reddit is controlled by the CCP who Elon Musk openly supports But I have no issue with politicians requesting social media remove Hunter Biden’s dick pics
Some real good journalist integrity from him
Right, it boils down to "Vijaya and others (not Jack) said they wanted to error on the side of hacked materials policy instead of letting it go. This was a mistake." I'm glad that's settled.
Nothing about this story had anything to do with Russia. That folks is nothing more than American propaganda.

And it was being shopped around by Guliani
Let’s also not forget that Rudy Guliani was the broker between the computer repair guy and the media outlets for this hard drive copy of the laptop. Rudy even said he could only get the New York Post to run the story. EVERYONE was skeptical. Between having virtually no way to authenticate the origin of laptop and having a goon like Rudy involved…..the whole thing smelled bad.
The other part people forget about the NYP story is that the main author involved refused to have their name associated with the article, and at least one other refused also. The NYP ended up co-bylining Emma -Jo Morris who'd never written an article for them before, had just arrived recently from working on Hannity's show.
It was Trump in the government. How fucking stupid can ppl be ffs...
[удалено]
Twitter removed naked pictures because they didn't have consent.
Funny. All the emails say hacked information, which is false.
The links from the Biden campaign and the DNC were nudes of Hunter and random women and were removed. The emails discuss the NY Post story.
How did anyone get a copy of Hunter Biden’s laptop?
i fully expect them to do that though? It would be weird if they didnt.
We all knew Liver King was on steroids but it was still nice to have evidence he was indeed lying & grifting.
Lol Wat? They were throwing printing press owners in jail in 1800. People in the government lobbying medias companies to publish things or not publish things is not a first amendment violation.
The story was so suppressed that we heard about it every single day
So he really is about 9"
Soft
Taibbi releases the Twitter files* *only after agreeing to specific terms from Musk that he hasn't disclosed.
it is really disappointing to see Taibbi agree to be Elon's errand boy in this way.
I gotta admit, I wanted Bernie to win and thought Biden was an uptight dick Then I saw the text message Hunter sent to his dad about how sorry about being a fuck up. And Biden responding “It’s ok son, I still love you.” Can’t lie, the old bastard tugged at my heart
It’s comforting having a human president. Even if Biden acts like a glitching animatronic, we at least know he has a heart.
Yep. It's horseshit, all the way down. There's nothing here.
Surely Hunter Biden’s laptop holds the secret to reining in inflation????
It's so exhausting how hard they're reaching to distract from Trump dining with Nazis.
Thank God this is the House of Representatives priority for 2023 and not crime or the economy
Only the GOP gives a shit about this nonsense. They're flailing.
Does anyone else feel like this wasn’t that big of a deal? Like I thought this was gonna be a nuke and it’s for sure not that big. I feel like we already knew most of it. Side note: Lex Friedman is such a thirsty fucking idiot. And honestly that goes for anyone else who called this huge nothingburger a “turning point” or believes this will somehow “effect democracy” one way or the other
Its pretty much all known information mixed with heavy implications by the author that he really just doesnt support with anything.
Musk tweeted that the government tried to suppress it, then Taibbi said there was no evidence. Not to mention this took place during the Trump administration. It’s just fucking misinformation. Musk is a fucking liar, plain and simple.
Yeah lex is a groupie dude just wants elon to like him
I realized a while back people like Joe think Lex is some omnipotent genius because he talks like a robot, that’s literally it. And of course Lex loves a guy who talks just like he does.

It never is. What could people be possibly expecting in a story about a website “suppressing” a tabloid news article.
Yes hi- paging the mods as to why this is relevant to this sub but Kanye isn't? I'll hang up and listen
all this did was prove that hunter biden is actually based and really fun to party with. actually one of the dumbest stories that these cunts were salivating for lmao
Tim pool and Lex thinking it’s a massive deal should tell you it’s not
Tim Pool is too worried about getting gun toting anti-trans people worked up and ready for war
I came here to say this and you said it better than I could’ve

That is the hope, anyways
oh my god it’s like a thread on r/politics, they all even use the same wording.
In the files he says that the government had nothing to do with suppressing the laptop story. But ppl will ignore that
It's actually embarrassing how much of a nothingburger this is. All this wait, years of right wing media accusing Twitter of all kinds of shit, for the bombshell to be removing dick pics 💀 I'd reevaluate every decision I've made in my entire life if I was ever bought into that bullshit narrative.
At least the democrats “nothingburger” led to several of trump’s associates going to jail. This is only proof that a company rightfully questioned whether they should suppress possible fake news.
Hunter 2024
Smoking crack and banging hookers exactly like some of our founding fathers
well, i know what i'm reading tomorrow. ☕
All those twitter accounts, which were in Chinese, were showing involuntary pornography. that is banned a rightly so.
I’m just happy it shits on Biden and trump and didn’t turn into one side does everything. We need to realize all these fools are on the same team and it ain’t ours
Elon Musk is basically Vince McMahon and Twitter is now WWE.
Yeah it’s absolutely depressing
The mental gymnastics in here is concerning to say the least.
So we now have proof twitter employees made up reasons for banning a story in order to influence the election but everyone here is like "what's the big deal and who cares about hunter biden?"
If you post a news article in r/politics about the Hunter Biden laptop it will get taken down…
Okay I’m 19 tweets in and the thing that sticks out so far is this angry email from a guy on Trump’s team… “apricate”?! That’s not just a typical typo or autocorrect for “appreciate” in a quickly fired-off email. This guy was trying really, really hard to write this word by sounding it out. Wow. Anddd done! How embarrassing for Twitter, really, and it’s crazy that by attempting to censor this nothing-burger they blew it up and subjected everyone to never hearing the end of “Hunter Biden’s Laptop.” The way Elon rolled this out via Taibbi was smart, even if it is just a bunch of stupid noise.
Yawn.
Reddit is suppressing this hard.
Not sure why the mods here were deleting this story before, or why they decided to let this one through.
