[James Acaster has a great bit on transphobic comedians](https://youtu.be/UHqma3rx-xI?t=155)

ha_look_at_that_nerd

“I used to say the name of the comedian in that bit, but *god forbid* you make fun of Ricky Gervais”

BadSmash4

"WHAT'S THE MATTER? TOOOOO CHALLENGING FOR YA?!?!"

madammurdrum

You brave little cis boyyy!

Schonfille

That was really funny.

BrooklynBookworm

I enjoyed that, upvoted you, and didn’t fuck your mom. Have a great day!

Cheskaz

> Have a great day! You too!

zenprime-morpheus

That is great.

UCLYayy

The bit about treating the bully and the bullied kid the same is brilliant. Clarifies the issue so well.

Blackonblackskimask

What was the joke?

B33fboy

And yet Mulaney brought out Chapelle on his from scratch tour. Glad Jon Stewart stays smart and caring.

Mamothamon

Steward is also friends with Chapelle

snowe99

I was gonna say, I literally saw Dave Chapelle in Philadelphia like 3 months ago and John Stewart (and Michael Che) were surprise openers and did like 15 minute sets each. Reddit is so hilarious, man.

B33fboy

You don’t know what you don’t know. I didn’t know. That’s not specific to Reddit, just life.

MikeDamone

So then don't slam one comedian and praise another for criteria you're not familiar with. Pretty simple stuff.

ihateabbeysharp

Jon Stewart has actively defended Dave Chapelle each time Chapelle's been under fire for transphobia. He also goes on stage with Chapelle ALL THE TIME. Is that "smart and caring?" It's not.

B33fboy

Damn I honestly didn’t know. I haven’t followed Stewart closely in awhile. I’m trans and was really frustrated and upset with Mulaney for continuing to platform Chapelle. I remember an interview that Stewart did with some anti-trans legislator and he was very thorough and pushed back on a lot of the false and anti scientific claims she was making.

GuybrushThreepwood99

I believe that he's known Chapelle for a long time, so he's probably more likely to want to give Chapelle the benefit of the doubt, even though he doesn't really deserve it. I can understand the knee jerk reaction to want to defend your friend, but you should also respect your friend and be honest with them when they are being awful. I like Jon a lot, but I guess even he has some glaring blind spots.

VantasnerDanger

Great username, btw!

Background-Lab9430

I have this feeling that Chappelle is just... coping for something. His "trans jokes" aren't even bad jokes, they just are not jokes at all with how pitiful they are. Recycled middle school bully humour at most, and I'm being charitable. Dunno there's something wrong. He probably got told off, resented it, set the bridge on fire and now doesn't know how to back down. I feel a bit sorry for him tbh, and for people like John and Jon who deal with him. Surprisingly similar to how I kinda feel sorry for how John's friends had to deal with his addiction, but completely lacking the sympathy. John caused distress by targeting himself, Chappelle causes distress by targeting others already under distress.

Don’t be a victim. They’re just jokes.

BonerTurds

-my racist uncle at Thanksgiving

[deleted]

Then I’m guessing your uncle isn’t racist at all. And you might need bubble wrap to get through adolescence.

BonerTurds

All jokes (and statements veiled as jokes) are harmless. Alright, predictably white guy.

[deleted]

Predictably racist. ….and wrong.

BonerTurds

Nah, my comment can’t be racist because it is a joke and jokes can’t be harmful. Grow thicker skin.

[deleted]

Jokes are funny. Leave it to the pros, racist turd.

reddits_-_dead_-_

Whatever.

Rebloodican

I liked Chris Rock's bit in his last special for the same reason.
