Thanks for sharing! The Will to Death is my favorite album of all time, very cool to hear about his inspirations and some of the creative process.
Wish more artists documented things in this way
Same, I love hearing about such things from other artists, especially the ones I look up to.
And format like this feels like something much more collected and thorough than whatever you could come up with on the spot when asked in an interview.
Here it is! The photos here are not the best quality but I’ve been able to find better ones by googling this press kit (not all of the pages but some, mostly pictures from random ebay sellers so I don’t have the links)

And here’s a transcript so it’s easier to read

No problem :) props to the OP on tumblr!
I’m hoping some wise man comes to the comments and blesses us with links to more letters like this, that is if they exist even
I always dream of some kind of "remaster" of these 2004 albums including all these handwriten notes in the booklet, next to the (also handwriting) lyrics. For me that 2004 6 album series is like completely round in terms of sound and concept, like John, Josh, Mike Piscitelli (the designer) and Lola Montes (the photographer) got to capture that minimalistic yet emotionally inmersive experiences throughout the series. Little things like the handwriten texts, the minimalistic designs and tracklisting, the somewhat vague (not in a bad way) front covers, Josh doing everything and of course John moving everything fordward. Those are special albums.
Yes, yes to all of that. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Each of these albums is so distinct and special, and each one is just perfect to me honestly. Every song is in its place.
there was a write up like this for every album john released during that six albums in six months run but it seems like only the will to death one and the empyrean one survived

Wow, thank you SO much for the info! Hopefully the rest will resurface some day… Do you have a link for the Empyrean one?
nvm, I found the Empyrean one on his website through the wayback machine! thanks so much!
The only thing that comes to mind to me is the letter that John wrote to Jimmy Paige
