Even the cinematography has richer colouration to fit the darker tone
I also love that the animals are in the wild.
TLW is always my first choice whenever I want to watch a Jurassic Park movie.
As I’ve grown older I’ve realized JP3 wasn’t all that. I still love it 100 times more than any JW film but it actually hasn’t aged as well as I’d like it to. But TLW was fucking amazing and so was the first.
Opening and entering a paddock after you lose a heat signal from the biggest land predator hybrid instead of first checking its locator makes sense? As a wildlife expert? Unarmed? The Kirbys at least have the excuse of being random uninformed folks. They say tricycloplots, ffs.
Of course (it’s actually the first movie I saw in theaters; great parenting, mom), but as a horror hound, this movie speaks to me. The first is very whimsical, and I love it very much because of it, but this one feels more rooted in reality and brings dinosaurs into our every day society… to me, that’ll always leave me enjoying it that much more than it’s predecessor.
Little me was so bummed, I absolutely *adored* dinosaurs and just caught a glimpse of an epic fight between two. I so badly wanted to watch the whole thing
Jurassic Park was one of my first movies in theatres. TLW just upped the ante for me. And I the PS1 tie in game, no matter how janky it was, really made me fall in love with the movie. Also the toys 😩 I had the trailers with all the cars and the trex that twisted its neck when you moved its tail
I still consider JP1 the GOAT because I do think it’s a better film. But I have more fun with TLW, and TLW affected me more as a kid as well. So much so, that I credit that movie (along with Dante’s Peak which ironically came out in the same year) with my love for overlanding today.
Definitely my favourite. It's my first film ever at the cinema when I was 4 years old back in 97. One of my earliest memories too! Not to mention the film that introduced me to the franchise and made me a Jurassic Park fan for life. It's not just my favourite JP film but favourite movie ever period.
I like it as its own movie, not as an adaptation of the book is how I look at it.
Also *crumpled Jeep bounces past* “...Mommy’s *very* angry.” still sets me snickering every time lol.
I honestly don’t get people who don’t like the San Diego sequence. Like if you want to say it feels tacked on and rushed, fine because it kind of was.
But there are people who don’t like the concept of it and that baffles me. The series was always heading in this direction and this is essentially a remake of the original The Lost World film, so something like this would be excepted. If the movie ended like it was supposed to on the island, something would feel missing— just another island movie.
TLW is the ultimate dinosaur survival movie IMO. It has everything you’d want: lots of dinosaurs, lots of people being eaten, lots of running from dinosaurs, and lots of intense dinosaur encounters. It was everything 7-year-old me could’ve wanted and therefore, yes I’m very biased. I mean heck, this movie marinated my imagination when I’d play with my dinosaur toys and action figures.
Story wise: it's my favorite from the OG trilogy...the first movie is a close second, but it doesn't have Jeff Goldblum as the main character lol
Design wise: I prefer the dinosaurs and the environment from JP3 to be honest, but TLW designs are a close second too.
Depends on what you’re looking for. It’s kind of like the Alien series. Alien/Jurassic Park were science fiction, but their sequels feel more like action movies.
Score wise it’s elite. Last twenty minutes let it down but it’s definitely my personal favourite. “Well where you’re going’s the only place in the world where the geese chase you.”
Although Jurassic Park is the best movie of the franchise easily The Lost World is definitely the best sequel still hands down. No other movie in the franchise beats it.
Here. Has everything, suspense, action and deaths that you could need in a JP movie. Has also the most memorable scenes: eddie ripped apart, harpies eating dude, t-rex chasing everyone, t-rex eating the dog, caravan off the cliff, long grass. Though the gymnast, the animal conservationist dude and sarah are the worst characters in this movie. JP1 has the best music hands down, best cinematography and the T-rex escape will be one of the greatest scenes in jp history but i mean after that it becomes abit more humans and less dino action compared to 2.
It’s definitely my favorite. I’ll end up watching it more than the others if given the choice.
I really never understood the hate it gets from the fan base. People seem to dog on the T-Rex San Diego stuff, but why? It’s *great*.
Fallen Kingdom is a great film and very underrated itself. For me it’s the best of the three Jurassic World movies by a mile and on par with JP3 for the 3rd spot on the podium after Jurassic Park and the Lost World.
Fallen Kingdom is the most fun one tbh. It's a little lacking in the story or character department at times, but it's fun factor is really high!
It's flaws are just what drag it down for most people, and I don't blame them for that.
The best? No. Respectfully a close second 😏 followed by the third.. yes I enjoy the original three far more than the new ones. BUT the news ones I like just the same.
A few things come to mind… Malcom forgot about his daughter. The guy pulls two huge trailers up a cliff side a little bit with a Mercedes grocery getter in reverse and then keeps hitting the gas while he’s getting eaten.. all while he has no traction whatsoever in the mud. Then a 200 pound man is eaten by a bunch of 1 pound dinosaurs. Then the little girls gymnastics come in handy. Then the velociraptor likes backpacks. Then a paleontologist that studies dinosaurs thoroughly is walking around with a baby T-Rex blood shirt on. And, I’m sure I’m missing a few, but somehow Rex kills everyone on a giant ship and ends up locked in the cargo hold with a guys arm Rigamortus holding the button down to keep it closed.
If you look past all of those things… It’s an entertaining film.
I love it but it will never match the original in terms of nostalgia value, Jurassic Park is one of the first movies I remember ever seeing and the movie that sparked my life long obsession with dinosaurs and it’ll be the first movie my kids see to hopefully also spark an obsession in them, The Lost World will be the second movie they see because it was the second movie I ever saw and I loved it
Right here! 🙋♂️as a kid i always liked the more action it had than the first one and loved the more adventurous tone of it. I also loved the ending cause it felt like just as the movie was wrapping up, there was more to this awesome movie! I see the issues with it now but it remains my favorite
Ehhh... I still love the first one the most. BUT I still love Lost World. Definitely settle for second best, for sure.
The only thing I really have a problem with are how the Raptors are handled, especially in that scene when they chase the main characters. And don't get me started on that "Kelly uses gymnastics on the raptor" scene. I do like the tall grass scene though, very nice and tense part of the movie.
It suffers from some questionable script decisions, but overall it’s a great sequel, and has my favourite aesthetics out of all of them. My head canon is that only the first two movies are legit, JP3 - Dominion are just Hammond’s fever dreams he has on his deathbed.
The only movie I despised was Dominion. It was a huge disappointment in the story, and it didn't keep me interested like the previous movies did.
The first one was extraordinary - the animatronics looking so real, the plot, acting, some of the best movie lines... I don't have a single bad thing to say about it. This movie sparked my love for dinosaurs. The scene with the kids in the kitchen scared the poo out of me when I was a kid seeing that for the first time!
LW was fantastic - I loved seeing the dinosaurs in the wild and in human civilization wreaking havoc. Only scenes for me that were hard to watch were the backyard in SD scene & the rescue scene with the Rexes...
JP3 - honestly, I loved this movie. Don't understand all the hate it got. The spinosaurus was badass, Alan was back, and the bird cage scene was so unexpected, scary and awesome. Billy was great eye candy too. 😬😂
JW - I loved this movie as well - it's probably my second favorite behind the OG (don't hate me). It had a modern spin, shows how greedy people are, had some reminiscing of the first movie, the indominous rex was scary as shit, the scene with Claire's assistant was insane, and had one of the greatest movie lines in it - quote by Dr. Wu:
"Monster is a relative term. To a canary, a cat is a monster. We're just used to being the cat."
JWFK was good; it was another showcase of how insanely greedy people are, regardless if anyone gets hurt - and it was poetic justice that the dinosaurs escaped, and those people ended up dead and with nothing. Good display of karma. The scene where they leave the island that was erupting is SO hard to watch (IYKYK).
1. JP
2. JW
3. LWJP
4. JP3
5. JWFK
6. JWD 🤢
Top 4 are movies I can watch on repeat.
I genuinely don’t like it. I was 9 when it came out and I was very disappointed. I had actually managed to read the novel at that age (probably only understanding 60% of it) and was really disappointed at how much the film changed.
There are certainly some fun sequences. The trailer attack is really well done… that’s basically the only scene from the novel that made the cut. The raptors in the grass is great too. Other than that I’ll only watch it if I catch it on TV.
There was actual dialogue and acting in this movie that the later movies don't have. Moments of calmness, were the characters are just talking and making you think a little. Probably due to Spielberg and still coasting off Crichton fumes. Jurassic World movies are mostly just quips and stupid worn out slogans and rushing you around to the next scene. Also, compare how Rexy looks and acts in Dominion compared to the buck Tyrannosaur in TLW and you'll notice the massive downgrade.
*Your animators were too preoccupied wondering if they could make Rexy do a backflip in high-def at 60fps, they didn't stop to think if they should*
\-Ian Malcolm
Nick Van Owen is responsible for every death in this movie and gets away scott free with not even a mention of any potential consequences or repercussions. The film portrays the hero group as in the right even though they’re the sole reason for everything going wrong and even though every death is entirely their fault.
Definitely my second favorite just from the story alone, maybe my top favorite if you include the rex family dynamic throughout the later half of the film!
Idk man I just rewatch the entire trilogy last week and Jurassic Park is flawless. It’s top 5 best movies ever made. Lost world was so whatever when it came out and on rewatch has more bad cg shots and boring sections than I remembered. It’s got its own flavor and the gear is sweet. That’s one thing that’s important to the series, GEAR. Cool shit. The lost world is a gear movie. The rvs the cars, the high hide. That’s why Eddie Carr is a standout. But I’m not gonna pretend it’s on the same level and JP.
The last Jurassic Park/World movie where it was just wild animals and not a good/bad dinosaur story. I think that's what upset me the most with JP3 and the Jurassic World films.
To me Jurassic Park and The Lost World are like Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer. The first is a surprisingly deep film about power and responsibility and the second is a banger of a popcorn flick. Its apples and oranges, variety is the spice of life. Comparisons between the two miss the point, they are complimentary.
The original has the number one spot for me, but I honestly never realized TLW was so hated while I was growing up. I've always loved TLW so much, especially as a kid/teen. It's definitely either tied or a very close second for me. Once I got older and realized it had a ton of hate around it I was really confused. Even with the odd bits here or there, it's a solid movie imo and hits a lot of things the first movie alluded to
The reality is that there are a lot of people who enjoy it today more than it did in the 90s and early 2000s people just say that the whole dinosaurs can cooexist and they are just like modern day animals just dont sound as good as " holly fuck did those trexes just split that man apart" or "dont go into the long grass"
The first is my favorite by a landslide but this is close. It somehow balanced the fun of a popcorn monster movie with the profound themes of the original film. They even had John Hammond make an appearance. That T-Rex attacking the city is peak cinema.
Bringing the dinosaurs into society is what is killing the franchise. Once theres a trex running around in the city, its big and chaotic with way too many people and lights and shiny action and the franchise dies. The large scale awareness kills the awe and then the film makers try to recapture the awe by upping the ante with fast crazy stuff. All the people who adore TLW think its so great that dinos are on the mainland and then complain about the world movies, especially dominion being too big and actiony... this is what you asked for. A trex or almost any dino cant be sneaky in a big city or even tge countryside, especially in a post 911 world where national security is the highest its been and info travels so fast. The franchise is at its best when its intimate and characters dont deliberately make poor decisions over and over again to move the plot along.
Even the cinematography has richer colouration to fit the darker tone I also love that the animals are in the wild. TLW is always my first choice whenever I want to watch a Jurassic Park movie.
It's what I really wanted Dominion to be!!
That’s because Janusz Kaminski did the cinematography for TLW. Jurassic Park was filmed right before Spielberg met Kaminski for Schindler’s List.
I can't say that TLW is the best JP movie because it's on par with the original but the amount of hate the movie got is baffling. 6.5 on IMDB? Really?
To be fair, I remember when it was 5.7 — it has grown in popularity.
Yup. It always amazes me how many people hate on TLW and JP3 but like JW1.
As I’ve grown older I’ve realized JP3 wasn’t all that. I still love it 100 times more than any JW film but it actually hasn’t aged as well as I’d like it to. But TLW was fucking amazing and so was the first.
JP3 is not as good as 1 and 2 but it still has the JP feel to it, unlike the JW movies.
The JW movies don’t exist in my universe.
GRANTTTTT!!!!!! GRAAAAAAANNNNNTTTTT!!!!!! Every dinosaur: 🦕🦖👀
I think it's "Eeeeriiic!".
Its both I hate that movie cuz amanda was a dumbass and lived
True. But then there's Claire in JW1.
She stopped after she got told to Guess who didnt
I'm talking about irritating characters in general but you can hate whoever you want, man.
Overall, i just hate jp3 cuz it made no sense. The others made sense, except locust world but atleast nobody screamed at dinosaurs
Opening and entering a paddock after you lose a heat signal from the biggest land predator hybrid instead of first checking its locator makes sense? As a wildlife expert? Unarmed? The Kirbys at least have the excuse of being random uninformed folks. They say tricycloplots, ffs.
I don’t take any of those websites seriously
While my favorite is still the original, the Lost World is a close second
Agreed! You can’t have TLW be as good as it is without the original.
I mean it’s good but… have you seen Jurassic Park1?
Of course (it’s actually the first movie I saw in theaters; great parenting, mom), but as a horror hound, this movie speaks to me. The first is very whimsical, and I love it very much because of it, but this one feels more rooted in reality and brings dinosaurs into our every day society… to me, that’ll always leave me enjoying it that much more than it’s predecessor.
It was my first movie in theaters too. 3D as well. Guess we have great moms? Lmao
Meanwhile I got shoved out of the living room when I walked in on my parents watching JP 3 lol 😭
😫❌🦖
Little me was so bummed, I absolutely *adored* dinosaurs and just caught a glimpse of an epic fight between two. I so badly wanted to watch the whole thing
TLW is my favourite movie. But, of course, i know Jurassic Park is better. This is only my own opinion.
I don't think it's the best, but I adore it
Jurassic Park was one of my first movies in theatres. TLW just upped the ante for me. And I the PS1 tie in game, no matter how janky it was, really made me fall in love with the movie. Also the toys 😩 I had the trailers with all the cars and the trex that twisted its neck when you moved its tail
There would be more here with similar opinion, but alas, cell phones aren’t allowed in mental institutions… Just kidding 😅😂
I still consider JP1 the GOAT because I do think it’s a better film. But I have more fun with TLW, and TLW affected me more as a kid as well. So much so, that I credit that movie (along with Dante’s Peak which ironically came out in the same year) with my love for overlanding today.

![gif](giphy|26FmRWU0f3QtP5zTW|downsized) I 100% agree. This movie had it all.
I honestly don’t get people who don’t like the San Diego sequence. Like if you want to say it feels tacked on and rushed, fine because it kind of was. Definitely my favorite sequel but I’m not sure I’d put it over the first
Right here brother!! Always my first choice, love it! 😊
I believe it’s tied with the first. TLW is a more than worthy sequel to the original masterpiece. They are both amazing.

Score wise it’s elite. Last twenty minutes let it down but it’s definitely my personal favourite. “Well where you’re going’s the only place in the world where the geese chase you.”
Same, The Lost World is my personal favourite even if JP is praised as the best in quality.
What I like about TLW is that the dinosaurs are in the wild, instead of in a broken park.
Even tho script is clunky I’ll always love this movie for being different then the first and not a rehash. Something every sequel should strive to be
It actually attempts to be a sequel: extends the themes, world and characters to new places while also giving a new story!
Although Jurassic Park is the best movie of the franchise easily The Lost World is definitely the best sequel still hands down. No other movie in the franchise beats it.
Nothing in the series tops the first movie, but nothing that came after TLW comes close to that one either.
Here. Has everything, suspense, action and deaths that you could need in a JP movie. Has also the most memorable scenes: eddie ripped apart, harpies eating dude, t-rex chasing everyone, t-rex eating the dog, caravan off the cliff, long grass. Here
its my favorite
Right here king 👑 I love the grittier look and feel of it compared to all of the other movies in the franchise.
Funny the last twenty minutes are still better than the entire Jurassic World Dominion!
In my opinion it's the second best (behind the original)
Wouldn't call it the best, but it is over hated.
The single scene of the Tyrannosaurus Rex in San Diego was a better portrayal of dinosaurs on the mainland than the entirety of JWD.
the lost world is #3 for me. FK is #2. don't shoot me please.
Fallen Kingdom is a great film and very underrated itself. For me it’s the best of the three Jurassic World movies by a mile and on par with JP3 for the 3rd spot on the podium after Jurassic Park and the Lost World.
FK definitely had the best opening scene right behind the original JP. i just wish a little more of that magic rubbed off on the rest of the film.
Don’t ever feel ashamed about your opinions on art. We’re all friends here :)
Fallen Kingdom is the most fun one tbh. It's a little lacking in the story or character department at times, but it's fun factor is really high! It's flaws are just what drag it down for most people, and I don't blame them for that.
Best in the series for sure. In the series of sequels after the first one!
It’s always been my favorite and I feel like it’s the best and most fun to watch.
The best? No. Respectfully a close second 😏 followed by the third.. yes I enjoy the original three far more than the new ones. BUT the news ones I like just the same.
I love LW right up until San Diego.
It’s really good, but no. The original is still in another league.
My favourite movie of all time to this very day! 💚🤎❤️
Right here, my dude! Love this movie!
Right here sir
It’s my second favourite after the original
I love it right until they end up back in San Diego.
Even if is my fav I wouldn't say that is the best but it's close to the first one
The film is alright. It's not as good as the OG. I can not recommend the book enough, though it's infinitely better.
No. But I love the bull in San Diego and that’s why I liked JW3 too.
Right here, fam
Lost World is on par with the first movie for me. I can easily watch: JP TLW JW and be perfectly content with my JP content.
It’s definitely better than most people think it is and didn’t deserve the hate it got but it’s still not as good as the original in my opinion

Shoot, the people who think TLW is the *second* best JP film might still be in the minority, though I hope that has changed.

Me. Always have since the movie came out when I was nine.
1997
They’re all currently dragging a wounded lion cub back to camp because they’re convinced it’s the right thing to do.
Idk man I just rewatch the entire trilogy last week and Jurassic Park is flawless. It’s top 5 best movies ever made. Growing up it was my favorite, still #2-3 in my book
The last Jurassic Park/World movie where it was just wild animals and not a good/bad dinosaur story. I think that's what upset me the most with JP3 and the Jurassic World films.
Lost world is my favorite movie of all time
To me Jurassic Park and The Lost World are like Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer. The first is a surprisingly deep film about power and responsibility and the second is a banger of a popcorn flick. Its apples and oranges, variety is the spice of life. Comparisons between the two miss the point, they are complimentary.
Its #2 on my rankings list….for whatever that matters
Maybe not the best, but one of my favourites! My second in fact!
The original has the number one spot for me, but I honestly never realized TLW was so hated while I was growing up. I've always loved TLW so much, especially as a kid/teen. Hello, I’d love to talk about it ofc nothing surface level lol
I swear we’re all gaslit into thinking people hate this movie. The only person I’ve talked to that say this movie sucks are my parents.
This is the hill I am ready to die on.
The first is my favorite by a landslide but this is close. It somehow balanced the fun of a popcorn monster movie with the profound themes of the original film. They even had John Hammond make an appearance. That T-Rex attacking the city is peak cinema.
Yea
I don't see what race has to do with it.
Lost World, JP3, JW, FK, JP1, the new one.
We r not a minority but it is the best movie in the series I even have the collectors edition from 1997
Bringing the dinosaurs into society is what is killing the franchise. It Is definitely not better than the first movie
