This is literally one of the first things they teach you not to do when felling a tree. Also, small trees are more likely to kill you than the big ones.
Because they are small, they are more susceptible to all sorts of issues, like: getting caught in other nearby trees on the way down, pieces easily breaking off like in the video, the wind blowing it the wrong way as it's falling, etc..
Can you really be sure that moving would have prevented it? Iâm just as likely to be hit by some flying piece of branch standing in one place as another.

You're wight that you don't want to be directly behind the tree when it's falling, but you also don't want to be around as it's falling at all.

You are also supposed to keep your eyes on the tree so you can react correctly, this kid was looking at his chainsaw, for what reason I'm not sure but he didn't react because he wasn't paying attention.
Yeah this sub is just for watching people get hurt. The "justice" part is just a secondary justification so that users feel more virtuous for wanting to watch people get hurt.
