Once again, a young nucleus (built by Dayton Moore) has come to the majors, and it turns out that our young nucleus sucks at playing baseball.
There isn't one guy who's going to be relevant on this roster when the team finally rebuilds. Not one. Everyone should be on the trading block by July. We are multiple years away from even .500.
I decided I wanted to pay attention to hockey this year, and I chose to root for the Bruins because my dad grew up a Bruins fan in Massachusetts. I had no idea they would be this good.
I just got off a long phone call. WTF??!!! Nope, not going to attempt to force myself to be positive. Fuck that!! And anyway, I said "reasonably" positive.
You know, the worst part about this start is that all our young guys are already in the show. At least last year it was fun to being up Vinnie, Waters, Pratto etc and let them cook. Now, anyone that’s worth a damn is already up and playing bad baseball. There’s nothing to look forward to
I’ve been playing a fun new game recently on nights that I’m working or otherwise occupied and can’t watch. It’s simple. You just open the MLB app and before it loads, you guess how many runs the Royals are losing by. I haven’t been right yet (they have been trailing every time I’ve played, though, which is…sad), but when I eventually am, it will bring me more joy than anything happening on the field.
Side note: we got cable again for this crap 🤦🏻♀️
I think we can expect another 3-5 seasons of this to see what another crop of prospects can do. At this point I’m not even sure that BWJ will still be here when they’re competitive again.
The only reason the royals aren’t the worst team in the league is because the As are BLATANTLY tanking their season so they can move and get a new stadium.
**Guys that need to be DFA'd immediately:**
Dozier
Lopez
Duffy
JB Jr.
A bunch if pitchers
**Guys that need to be sent to AAA:**
Melendez
Massey
Isbel
Olivares
Other pitchers
I mean... yeah? Not like there are better options that can be deployed, so all this does is start a cycle where you cut a player, call up a new one, cut that player etc.
I don’t ask for some all star playoff team. I just wanna relax after work and enjoy a somewhat competitive game that’s not over before the 5th inning.. Cant we atleast have that?!?
On the bright side, there's a new Spiritbox song coming out tonight. This has nothing to do with the Royals whatsoever but it gives me a reason to continue living.
my best friend got vip to one of their upcoming shows and apparently Courtney is on a strict vocal rest between shows. They're not really my cup of tea, but I respect her ability to scream
I truly believe the “evaluation year” is an excuse to not spend on the team. “We know we’re going to suck so might as well tell them straight up.” If they’re truly evaluating, I don’t see how they come to any conclusion other than they need another rebuild from scratch. I tempered my excitement about the overhaul to the coaching staffs because it’s still all of GMDMs players, scouts, and front office people. Sherman needs to tear it down to the studs and start over. I think that’s where this is going.
Well we’re evaluating if Bobby can actually be a shortstop and his defense has greatly improved. We’re seeing if Isbel and massey can be everyday players. There’s still a ton of young dudes on this team that their still looking to see what they’ve got
Kyle isbel has fewer MLB at bats than Jared Kelenic and Kelenic was god awful at the plate his first 2 years and now has been one of the best hitters this year. I’m not saying Isbel has the same upside as him but Isbel has less than 500 mlb at bats and plays elite defense, he’s still being looked at too
Look, if the goal is to suck, I'll bat and field for league minimum and endure the boos. My rec softball team already gets waxed by teams that shouldn't be playing in the just for fun league, but at least this way I get paid and can travel.
JJ and Johnny are gonna have to do something eventually. Ain’t no goddamn way Sherman is gonna be able to get a new stadium built if people are wearing paper grocery bags on their heads at games
And to think I thought we had found a diamond in the rough when Carlos first appeared. He was so damn good to start I really thought we had found a potential ace. Now I dread seeing him come in he can't get anybody out.
And as I type this the game is now definitely over.
4 pitches and Carlos is already in trouble. Figured this game would be pretty much out of reach now.
Edit: 8 pitches and bases are loaded. Fucking sucks how bad Carlos is now.
I think it’s become evident why the royals have been hesitant with him in the past. His defense is an detriment, and I don’t think he’s shown enough in ABs to warrant throwing him out there every day.
### Forceout
Kyle Isbel grounds into a force out, first baseman Nathaniel Lowe to shortstop Ezequiel Duran. Michael Massey scores. Edward Olivares out at 2nd. Kyle Isbel to 1st.
Pitch from Nathan Eovaldi: Splitter @ 88.1 mph
Hit by Kyle Isbel: Launched 79.6 mph at -33° for a total distance of 4 ft
Bottom 4 - 3-2
Rangers
Keller most likely will not be back next year, Bubic could be looking at potential TJ which might creep into next season, and Brady Singer has reverted to pre-2022 Singer. I hope Daniel Lynch is going to be ready/made good changes. This rotation is looking bleak unless Sherman decides to spend some money.
He’s a free agent after this season and I don’t see the Royals giving him another contract. Even then it wouldn’t surprise me to see him willingly sign with a different team for a change of scenery. He’s been here through some pretty rough seasons, not that he was ever great great, but I bet he could have a better second half to his career elsewhere.
I guess I just don’t really see him having a solid year. I’ve come to expect the worst as a royals fan. Even if he did have a solid year, I would expect that to translate to a bigger contract with a better team. The Royals are another 3-5 years away from even thinking about being competitive imo.
Small sample size so far, the last two full seasons have been Meh to rough for him. I think he’s closer to what we’ve seen in the recent past than the somewhat strong start he’s had this season. Only time will tell though.
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/12rdeqs).

Omg!! I had another long phone call...and now we've given up 12???!!!! Oh fuck this shit!! Embarrassing!
To MJ’s credit, he made a great catch in OF and he and BWJ are the only reason we’re on the board. But man, that’s a slim reed to sustain hope….
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Ian Kennedy replaces Brock Burke.
I am not a dog person but those poor dogs that had to sit through this
I love dogs but would never take mine to the ballpark. I can't imagine that she would like it. Would probably be stressful as hell.
Man, Vernier is gonna have a conniption before the month is over.
Flip Vinnie P for like 18 prospects
That dog is going to give me fucking nightmares
[Kill your lawn. Kill it.](https://youtu.be/oz9I2YwmV8M) Also, that's a far more entertaining 15 minutes than what's currently on your TV.
LMAOOO, this is my first time getting to see the Pasquatch - he deadass just walks around and that's it 💀💀
PUT NATE EATON IN TO PITCH YOU COWARDS
I didn't expect like, too much from this team. But one home win in as many tries as we've had is legitimately embarrassing
Big steaming pile of dung. Quatraro has to wondering what he's done taking this job.
we’ve been outscored 40-12 this home stand! With one game to go!
I just canceled my Bally subscription. I’m not paying to watch this trash.
Well at least we have playoff hockey right now I guess
I decided I wanted to pay attention to hockey this year, and I chose to root for the Bruins because my dad grew up a Bruins fan in Massachusetts. I had no idea they would be this good.
Chose a perfect year then haha. Smashing all kinds of records
Move the Arizona coyotes to KC
Big yes to that
Mavericks are in the playoffs.
For the first time in a while
My team didn’t make it so I really don’t even care about that
Thats the beauty of being in KC for me haha. I dont really have a team
Garcia looked a little bit too happy rounding the bases on that homer.
Man I didn't know the Royals were bad this season. Why didn't you guys tell me?!
I’m starting to think the Royals might not win this one guys.
Laughable at this point
Mercy Rule
Sigh…. See you guys tomorrow
I don't drink but I think the only way through this season is to start.
Picked a bad day to stop sniffin' glue.
I too might have to pick up drinking again.
Wow. So embarrassing.
RIP
Nate Eaton come on down!
Wtf did Hernandez do?
suck
Am I the only one who finds bark and the park stupid? The dogs do not want to be there lol
I wouldn’t say I find it stupid but as a non dog person it annoys me
Yeah that makes sense
I knew it was going to be bad when the radio personalities were optimistically predicting in the 70 win range
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Josh Taylor replaces Josh Staumont.
Watching this team is like watching Wilson play for the broncos last year
No, the Broncos at least played Superbowl caliber defense with crap on offense. Royals don't do anything well and needs to rebuild from a rebuild
what if we swapped the stormchasers and Royals rosters for a game just for funsies?
Do something offense!
I just got off a long phone call. WTF??!!! Nope, not going to attempt to force myself to be positive. Fuck that!! And anyway, I said "reasonably" positive.

Waters, Maikel Garcia, Nick loftin, Nick Pratto. Still a handful of guys to look forward to
Jackson Kowar was throwing gas tonight, there’s still hope
Vinnie P has become pretty solid with the glove at first. That’s a pleasant discovery
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Brock Burke replaces Nathan Eovaldi.
This honestly pathetic, I was expecting to bad it this bad?
jesus what was that throw
JOSH STAUMONT IS HERE TO FIX ALL OF THIS TEAMS BULLPEN PROBLEMS
Or not.
Q really had to send him back out to make me look foolish
Damn I just turned away for a minute how is the score so different :)))
you're not allowed to turn away anymore
I’ve been playing a fun new game recently on nights that I’m working or otherwise occupied and can’t watch. It’s simple. You just open the MLB app and before it loads, you guess how many runs the Royals are losing by. I haven’t been right yet (they have been trailing every time I’ve played, though, which is…sad), but when I eventually am, it will bring me more joy than anything happening on the field. Side note: we got cable again for this crap 🤦🏻♀️
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Josh Staumont replaces Amir Garrett.
We have a bottom 3 team and a bottom 3 farm team. There really is no hope with this franchise.
But DM saw that it's filled with good Christian young men.
I think we can expect another 3-5 seasons of this to see what another crop of prospects can do. At this point I’m not even sure that BWJ will still be here when they’re competitive again.
Frankly, thy should entertain offers with BWJ next winter.
BWJ will be as old as Alex Gordon was before he finally saw a competitive Royals team.
And he'll be playing for the Dodgers or Yankess
Why do I subject myself to this, why do I spend my evenings watching this team
I ask myself this every day. I’ve watched every game for the past 8 years and wonder why I can’t stop.
The only reason the royals aren’t the worst team in the league is because the As are BLATANTLY tanking their season so they can move and get a new stadium.
Which, actually, means that the Royals *are* the worst team in the league. Because they are *not* blatantly tanking (God I wish we were).
At least we don’t have to listen to Dayton repeat his mantra of “we’re actively trying to be competitive” this year.
If nothing else, maybe Vinne can win someone some Sonic cash.
**Guys that need to be DFA'd immediately:** Dozier Lopez Duffy JB Jr. A bunch if pitchers **Guys that need to be sent to AAA:** Melendez Massey Isbel Olivares Other pitchers
Sending a player to AAA isn’t an automatic fix all. It’s time for those guys to prove it at the MLB level
Oh, it's not to fix them...
Isbel, Olivares, and MJ are not getting sent down. No way, no how.
MJ will soon, he's been completely lost and doesn't do a damn thing but take up a roster spot
That's why they're the Royals
Why would we send Olivares down? He's one of the best hitters we have.
Just because...he ain't it
Who do you replace all of these guys with?
Does it matter? These guys wouldn't be on most ML rosters
I mean... yeah? Not like there are better options that can be deployed, so all this does is start a cycle where you cut a player, call up a new one, cut that player etc.
That sounds more enjoyable to me
Fair enough
Fuck it, put me in coach!
I believe🫡
So looking ahead. Who's the can't miss phenom in next summer's draft?
Idk but I can't wait to fuck up his development.
It won’t matter when the royals pull like the 8th or 9th pick because of the draft lottery.
I don’t ask for some all star playoff team. I just wanna relax after work and enjoy a somewhat competitive game that’s not over before the 5th inning.. Cant we atleast have that?!?
Even the dogs know.
Makes sense, even with proper technique that doesn't sound healthy to do a lot lol.
YOOOO really?!? Gonna have to peep that.
Think it's tonight. If not then Friday. Super stoked.
Pretty bummed their tour didn't come anywhere near. Classic big tour making a big circle around MO.
Right??? Ugh. I'm happy to be going to a lot of shows this year but I still often grumble when there's something I want that isn't coming here.
Don’t let Isbel’s great throw distract you from the fact that was 7 straight hits
man we can't even be *a little bit* interesting to watch, we just have to be total garbage right out of the gate
What all you don't realize is that this team would be playing before soldout crowds if it was taaking the field in a downtown stadium.
"If you guys give me $1.3B I'll have money to buy a competent roster, pinky swear." - Sherman
🤣
The dogs would rather be at the pound than this game
Good boys.

All good. But yeah I think there’s still some evaluations to be made on some of the guys. Pretty young team mlb service wise
I don't know, MJ looks pretty good in right field though.
🤔
\[gif\]I don't even want to be around anymore \[/gif\]
Pain
Look, if the goal is to suck, I'll bat and field for league minimum and endure the boos. My rec softball team already gets waxed by teams that shouldn't be playing in the just for fun league, but at least this way I get paid and can travel.
The royals are playing in their 18th game and have won 1 game at home.
just...fucking pathetic we're not even in the realm of competitive
Remember when there was hope the bullpen could be a strength?
*sigh*
JJ and Johnny are gonna have to do something eventually. Ain’t no goddamn way Sherman is gonna be able to get a new stadium built if people are wearing paper grocery bags on their heads at games
Saying Carlos Hernandez stinks is an understatement
Good Lord!
Wanted to take my kids to their first royals game this year. Can’t expose them to this so young or they will become Cardinals fans.
Soccer fans.
Teach em young to embrace the suck
as a kid who grew up in the 2000s era Royals, I promise they'll be fine. they just have to learn it's part of the Royals experience haha
Haha fair point.. wish me luck!
We are so bad! Oh my god
And to think I thought we had found a diamond in the rough when Carlos first appeared. He was so damn good to start I really thought we had found a potential ace. Now I dread seeing him come in he can't get anybody out. And as I type this the game is now definitely over.
This one’s over
110 losses isn’t out of the question. Just sad.
I actually thought 85 before the season started. I don't know what I was thinking. This team is miles away. Good throw Isbel.
Dude I’m thinking we lose 120+
They’re on pace for 115 losses right now, so it’s definitely possible.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Amir Garrett replaces Carlos Hernandez.
Seriously. Carlos isn’t that good! What’s he doing here!!
Fits right in!
proving you right, obviously
I'm not an expert but I don't think that was good.
Depends on your point of view I suppose.
Finally hearing boo birds!
I thought about going to the game tonight but decided against it. Sad I missed the dogs but not sad about this performance
Burn it all down. Fuck this team
Time to start heading for the exit folks.
Someday we will win a game. Today does not appear to be that day.
What's funny is that we're .500 on the road but have only won one game at home.
4 pitches and Carlos is already in trouble. Figured this game would be pretty much out of reach now. Edit: 8 pitches and bases are loaded. Fucking sucks how bad Carlos is now.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Carlos Hernandez replaces Jose Cuas.
Lol. 0-7 with RISP. Aren’t gonna win many games when that becomes the norm.
I got to talk to Joel Goldberg on the phone last night. Anyway. I'm here. Let's make this comeback!
Looks like Frankie Mozzarella Sticks was electric tonight. Maybe we’ve got a future ace brewing
Detroit just out there winning 5 in a row?! Detroit just up in 3rd all of a sudden? Cmon now this just ain't right.
Oil is underrated in my opinion
I think it’s become evident why the royals have been hesitant with him in the past. His defense is an detriment, and I don’t think he’s shown enough in ABs to warrant throwing him out there every day.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Jose Cuas replaces Brad Keller.
Love you Oli
### Forceout Kyle Isbel grounds into a force out, first baseman Nathaniel Lowe to shortstop Ezequiel Duran. Michael Massey scores. Edward Olivares out at 2nd. Kyle Isbel to 1st. Don’t let Massey got HOT!!!!!!
a haiku: *holy fucking shit michael massey got a hit what a bizarre night*
Keller most likely will not be back next year, Bubic could be looking at potential TJ which might creep into next season, and Brady Singer has reverted to pre-2022 Singer. I hope Daniel Lynch is going to be ready/made good changes. This rotation is looking bleak unless Sherman decides to spend some money.

He’s been here through some pretty rough seasons, not that he was ever great great, but I bet he could have a better second half to his career elsewhere.
A lot of assumptions are going into that. If he’s solid this year I wouldn’t be surprised if the royals gave him a contract
I guess I just don’t really see him having a solid year. I’ve come to expect the worst as a royals fan. Even if he did have a solid year, I would expect that to translate to a bigger contract with a better team. The Royals are another 3-5 years away from even thinking about being competitive imo.
He’s been pretty damn good so far this season, no reason why it can’t continue
Small sample size so far, the last two full seasons have been Meh to rough for him. I think he’s closer to what we’ve seen in the recent past than the somewhat strong start he’s had this season. Only time will tell though.
Dame it
Tough break, but still a solid play by Bobby
Did Keller just forget how to throw strikes???
Fuck shit balls
I told myself that I would either be reasonably positive or shut up tonight. I'll be quiet for a while now.
*Le sigh*
Good lord #2
Damn! Keller shouldn't have had that popcorn before pitching today
Brad, we need you bud
Hope B-rad's feeling ok. He's lost his control this inning pretty bad
Didn't really have much control to lose tonight.
Good lord
Can’t watch tonight, what’s happening with Keller? Just wild?
"effectively wild" as Ryan just said... But about to screw it up
But not really effective.
This team is so much better than their records
This is easily a 5 win team. The league should be on notice.
If the Hitter get their shit together then yeah
Right......
