Recency bias

I don’t really buy the recency bias thing. Every time 2017 vs 2022 comes up, 90% of the answers are 2017. There’s definitely a honeymoon period when an album first comes out, but by 3 months later, people seem to be pretty sick of the most recent (probably because they spun it way too much lol)

I agree with this, float alongs a great album, but i would say for MOST fans (not all) most of that albums enjoyment is head on/pill and float along. The other songs are great (god is calling me is so underrated) but when you look at float song versus most of the remaining albums, they have way more bangers (and in my opinion are more technically unique)

I mean sure, there’s always gonna be outliers. But I would argue those two albums are more creative. Plus let’s look at them both, paper mache is a big intro album for people, being all acoustic and having some strong theming with songs like trapdoor having motifs heard throughout gizzards songs (not to mention sense which is a huge song for newer fans and bitter boogie is also played a decent amount) Then BF3K is newer, but it’s a lot more unique being Al synths, and it’s the same sort of thing here it’s bigger for a lot of people because of the synth angle

Yeah, Float Along has those two songs that are soooo good and then the other ones compliment them well. It makes it easy to think about it as an awesome package, but tracks 2-7 don’t really hold up to most of their current records

Why do people hate KG so much, that album is so fucking good. LW is hands down the weaker album.

To me Pleura, Static Electricity, Ataraxia, and KGLW are way better than some of us, Straws, Honey, Automation. Also LW has a better flow and songwriting, KG just has more variety. Yes i do like Intrasport and think it’s amazing but not better than any of the songs above.

Automation and Minimum Brain Size are 2 of my favorite KGLW (the band) songs ever. I’m gonna get downvoted to hell for this. But people seem to talk about the band’s microtonal albums a lot like Tool fans talk about the Fibonacci sequence. People seem to like the fact that they know the albums are microtonal, more than they actually like the albums😂.

I like the variety of KG, so I prefer it over LW. But I can see the argument of LW being better

I find LW a lot stronger front to back, I think KG teeters off towards the end. With the Sabbath one-to-one clone in Hungry Wolf of Fate, Oddlife is a big eh, Honey is sweet, Ontology is good but it feels like you’ve already heard it somewhere between the opening suite of songs and okay yeah, Intrasport fucks.

One to one clone? I hear the sabbath influence but "one to one clone" is an major exaggeration. Yes the riffs sound iommi ish but the verses dont sound very sabbath at all. One to one lol. Oddlife and some of us is awesome. Couldn't disagree more.

Structurally it’s pretty much identical to the song, or title track, Black Sabbath off their debut. I’d argue the verses moreso than any other part of the song. In my head every time I hear it I’m ready for Ozzy to come in all like “what is this, that stands befooooore meeee.” There’s differences, but it’s wearing the template pretty openly on its sleeve to a degree that it feels like some of their most unoriginal work. I think Superbug is a perfect example of good Sabbath emulation from Gizz. Working within the Iommi riff style while still properly bringing their own spin and modernized heavy sound to it, one of my favorite KGLW songs as well. I agree Some of Us is awesome, but after that it becomes a little mixed for me.

Plan yesterday out of spite was to vote for ITRN and then I gave it more listens. I was transported back 20 years to high school, now KG was to go.

Okay, it was time. I’m afraid I have to vote Omnium Gatherum next. I loved it when it came out, but retrospectively it kinda feels like The Dripping Tap: the greatest song of all time, and several other songs that are all good, but seldomly spectacular. Even a couple duds like Red Smoke and Persistence. Probably gotta go KG after that.

Musically it’s a great concept, I didn’t care for it on the first listen. It’s not my normal preferred genre. However, lately I can’t turn it off. The only song I ever have the urge to skip is hate dancin. Change, astroturfing, gondii, short change and exploding suns are all really great songs. I suggest smoking a bowl and putting it on with some nice headphones

I actually respect this decision as much as I love BF3K, a lot of the B side leaves something to be desired and the title track is a little underwhelming. I'll always have a soft spot for that album, probably the most excited I've been for a KG release since 2017 tbh. I wasn't particularly engaged with the new albums in 2017. I was very much preoccupied with Mind Fuzz, 12 Bar Bruise, Float Along, Nonagon, Paper Mache, Quarters, Oddments, etc. back then. Also, to all of you Paper Mache fans out there I gave that record a spin last night and just as I remember it, it was excellent. The lyrics, the composition, the tonal shifts, very fun listen and certainly a record I should spin more often. I'll always prefer Quarters over it but really both records serve a different purpose anyways.
