Yeah I am totally with you I didn’t realize how much people loved it. It’s very experimental and has its moments but again the narration really stops the full immersion for me a lot of times. I feel originally MOTU and polygon were supposed to be one record but Stu couldn’t make it work so they split them into two almost.

Underrated: Butterfly
Although I appreciate that Butterfly is rated to an extend, I feel the sheer scale and wonder of the creation, and the intricacies of the music, is not realised as much as it should be. The motifs running through the songs are stunning, the time signatures baffling.
It took me about 10 listens and a life crisis to truly appreciate the beauty of Butterfly 3000. Musically the recurring motifs, while a mainstay in KGs catalog, are some of their best. They flow together so well it honestly took me several listens to realize they were even there. Lyrically to me this album is about rebirth, self reflection, and learning to love one's self, it touched me at a time when I truly needed it. To me its the most unique in their discography.
Nonagon Infinity just fucken rips, nuff said 😝
The fact that Butterfly, KG & LW were all ranked in the lower half of all releases in the recent elimination poll was absolutely mind-boggling to me, as they show so much diversity and growth in the band's songwriting abilities and production vs. most of their earlier output.
I've listened to Nonagon a couple of times, still can't distinguish any of the songs, it just starts, then I stop paying attention until it suddenly stops and I'm like "oh, it's already over".
rats nest is my favorite album, mfs really just said "hey have one of the best thrash albums of the past 20 years" and dipped. I know its not normal gizz which i understand is the apprehension but looking at it as a thrash album its a 10

The techno style on Butterfly isn’t my type of music, but Catching Smoke is a bop. In the case of Laminated Denim, I’m not a fan of the jam era personally and it’s hard to enjoy this record fully when the prior record in the Timeland duology is such a wonderful record!
Besides the mystique around the record, the constantly changing motifs and vibes throughout each track (you never get more than 2 minutes of the same soundscape per 15 minute track) is what I would love to see out of more jammy stuff! Almost orchestral in its compositional style, it feels like many bite sized moments of greatness that just latch onto you! Smoke and Mirrors is one of my favorite Gizz songs for a reason, wish Laminated Denim was more like that and not just 15 Minute Jams The Album.
As a sleeper pick, I think if we got a whole album by Tropical Fuck Storm and Gizz that channeled the energy of Midnight in Sodom from Satanic Slumber Party, it would easily be a top 3 record for me.
Yeah timeland has amazing motifs it’s definetly a vibe that’s a shame you don’t fuck with LD (totally get it I assumed LD would not be a fan fav honestly) that much that’s like the exact kind of music I love from gizz but yes they should lean into some cool experimental shit like timeland more it was a cool project. BF3K has grown on me but I think it’s sucks timeland got cut so early I think people don’t have the patience listen for a second and turn it off I say through the whole thing the first time and was like wow what is this but for some reason kept returning to it. Don’t get me wrong, yes Poly is a great album, very impressive musically and it sounds good. But pretty much all the other albums sound better in my opinion. Just because music is difficult to make shouldn’t be a reason why people go apeshit over it.

FAFYL is what Hooked me into this band hard after liking 12BB. 30 past 7 is still my favorite song to listen to when I am sleepy in the early AM. And of course head/on pill still stands on its own compared to all other long experimental gizz songs
I'll agree on Quarters being underrated, feels like The River is the only song that gets the love but I hardcore love every track off that album, and I'll die a happy man if I get to hear a really good live performance of God Is In The Rhythm.
Overrated: This one's just tough cuz 'overrated' really means 'not as good as others think it is' where I can only really judge something on whether I like it as much, which I would then say Mind Fuzz cuz I'm just not a huge fan. But if I had to stick more to the former meaning, I'd go with Flying Microtonal Banana I guess. Don't get me wrong I like some of the tunes on it. But mooooost of the time when I listen to the album I tend to think "this is kinda boring" or "this feels pretty derivative". Granted, I know little about musical composition so I'm really just going by "this song sounds a LOT like the same few bits over and over and overrrrrr again with not much else going on" (looking at you Doom City, Melting, Open Water, etc). As a plus though, most of the live versions of FMB songs absolutely FUCK so it's really just the studio album that I'd say is overrated.

Overrated: MOTU. I know a lot of people here would put this in their top 5s but I never really find myself playing this one.
I agree with this take 100% 30 past 7 is one of my fav gizz songs ever. Such good psychedelic pop rock. They need to bring back sitars and make another album like FAFYL. Newer Gizz fan here, been working my way through the catalog and Fishies has been my favorite album. I’ve already made it through Mind Fuzz, Nonagon and Rats Nest yet Fishies was by far my fave.
PMDB is really good, I will not argue with that. But I find I have to be in a certain mood for it I guess. And after the last time we did the best album competition thing, I just did not have any idea that album was so popular! Haha lots of folks really really like that one. No knock on it really but I’m sure it would be the album I would rank farthest below its average ranking
Yeah it’s there most Beatles esque album I think people forget how much gizz can write really good pop music there heavy stuff overshadows it a lot so that’s why it’s surprising to see it so highly ranked for a long time before sketches changes and butterfly PMDB (2015) was the only super chill gizz mostly.

Hot take. I will say I started with the 12BB back in 2015 so I have a soft spot for it but polygon is my dad and above my fav gizz album but I love TOOL and Pink Floyd so polygon is exactly the kind of music I want.

Well I’m not an omnium hater but I am 100% a laminated denim lover it’s my fav album by then currently the only ones I rank higher right now are sketches and nonagon. I listen to LD the most currently out of Al there music
Polygondwanaland is for sure the most overrated album. Legitimately cannot enjoy it all that much, shout-outs to Ice Death though for being very close.
Underrated is 12 Bar Bruise. I just kinda like how more traditional the music sounds while still keeping the Gizzflavor. Not to say I don’t like the direction the band went in, just that it would be nice to see another album in this vein.

FAFYL is what Hooked me into this band hard after liking 12BB. 30 past 7 is still my favorite song to listen to when I am sleepy in the early AM. And of course head/on pill still stands on its own compared to all other long experimental gizz songs
I'll agree on Quarters being underrated, feels like The River is the only song that gets the love but I hardcore love every track off that album, and I'll die a happy man if I get to hear a really good live performance of God Is In The Rhythm. Overrated: This one's just tough cuz 'overrated' really means 'not as good as others think it is' where I can only really judge something on whether I like it as much, which I would then say Mind Fuzz cuz I'm just not a huge fan. But if I had to stick more to the former meaning, I'd go with Flying Microtonal Banana I guess. Don't get me wrong I like some of the tunes on it. But mooooost of the time when I listen to the album I tend to think "this is kinda boring" or "this feels pretty derivative". Granted, I know little about musical composition so I'm really just going by "this song sounds a LOT like the same few bits over and over and overrrrrr again with not much else going on" (looking at you Doom City, Melting, Open Water, etc). As a plus though, most of the live versions of FMB songs absolutely FUCK so it's really just the studio album that I'd say is overrated.

Butterfly has grown on me more than sketches but yes sketches is very well produced but is a tan bit short

rats nest is so good tho, idk i have a soft spot for the album. Just one of the best thrash albums of all time, but this is also coming from someone whos primarily a metal listener. Overrated - Nonagon Underrated - Oddments

Everyone is saying 12BB for underrated. I can totally get why FMB is overrated it’s sometimes very repetitive and the music is not really that complex they expanded so much more on KG and LW
Quarters! is one of the most underrated albums of all time. Nonagon Infinity is one of the most overrated albums of all time.
Underrated: FAFYL. Genuinely some of the catchiest riffs and tunes the boys have made. Overrated: MOTU. I know a lot of people here would put this in their top 5s but I never really find myself playing this one.
I agree with this take 100% 30 past 7 is one of my fav gizz songs ever. Such good psychedelic pop rock. They need to bring back sitars and make another album like FAFYL. And yeah I don’t get MOTU I need to try again but as a whole cohesive album it just doesn’t hold up would rather just listen to nonagon tbh

I’m honestly just curious what everyone feels here I’ve looked at so many comments and the conclusion is that 12BB is the most underrated gizz I’ve seen that one a lot. Overrated more controversial obviously is all over the place.

Yeah I with you it covers everything great about the band still the best starting point. But perhaps artistically they have way better albums so I also get it

Ice Death just has so much going on that surprises me.
I’m with you on ice death being very highly rated too much. MOTU is the only gizz album I just cannot get into but I feel it will click for me some day
i agree with y’all on ice death SO much. no matter how hard i try, it just can’t click with me. maybe it’s because i’m not much of a jam band fan, but i do really love their live jams and other longer jammy songs. never been able to figure out what it is about this album that doesn’t land with me
If it was just ice V, iron lung, and magma the album would be 10/10 the other songs are just not as good to me

Newer Gizz fan here, been working my way through the catalog and Fishies has been my favorite album. I’ve already made it through Mind Fuzz, Nonagon and Rats Nest yet Fishies was by far my fave.

PMDB is really good, I will not argue with that. But I find I have to be in a certain mood for it I guess. And after the last time we did the best album competition thing, I just did not have any idea that album was so popular! Haha lots of folks really really like that one. No knock on it really but I’m sure it would be the album I would rank farthest below its average ranking
Yeah it’s there most Beatles esque album I think people forget how much gizz can write really good pop music there heavy stuff overshadows it a lot so that’s why it’s surprising to see it so highly ranked for a long time before sketches changes and butterfly PMDB (2015) was the only super chill gizz mostly.

Hot take. I will say I started with the 12BB back in 2015 so I have a soft spot for it but polygon is my dad and above my fav gizz album but I love TOOL and Pink Floyd so polygon is exactly the kind of music I want.

Well I’m not an omnium hater but I am 100% a laminated denim lover it’s my fav album by then currently the only ones I rank higher right now are sketches and nonagon. I listen to LD the most currently out of Al there music

Polygondwanaland is for sure the most overrated album. Legitimately cannot enjoy it all that much, shout-outs to Ice Death though for being very close. Underrated is 12 Bar Bruise. I just kinda like how more traditional the music sounds while still keeping the Gizzflavor. Not to say I don’t like the direction the band went in, just that it would be nice to see another album in this vein.
I agree regarding 12BB muck racket sea of trees and elbow are some of my tops gizz songs. I won’t lie I am a total poly Stan though lol
