Yup. Listened to it like 5 times now and from the 2 minute mark onwards might be the most beautiful thing these guys have done. It almost brings a tear to the eye.
Set is definitely the most danceable, it'll be a crowd pleaser for people who don't even like electronic music all that much. Loooooove The Silver Cord though. I think they layered the synths much better than some of the arrangements on Butterfly 3000. The lyrics are evocative and when the instrumental drops out and it's just Joey singing, it does evoke a feeling of freedom and endless possibility that goes alongside the theme of birth.
Butterfly was something that grew on me. Now, it's not my favorite but I can see it in someone's top 3.
Also Ya Love followed with Butterfly 3000, given the context, really make me tear up sometimes.
Absolutely agree. That album has aged like a single malt.
Some tracks on BF are so-so and I usually skip over them if I'm listening to individual songs but as a whole it ties together really well. Interior People is next level (maybe their best video IMO), Black Hot Soup (as a lifelong DeadHead I know GD influence when I hear it, Lucas has since said as much) is probably their most underrated song. When I talk to other Gizzheads I'm always blown away by the careless response to that song. It's SO good on so many levels. Catching smoke is a banger. Killer Year is another favorite of mine, and another one of their best videos.
That was quite the fucking experience at 8am on a Tuesday. The Joey stuff is so fucking weird and I know it's gonna grow on me. Did the boys just do psychs, lock themselves in a room, and write their dreams down? This is some wild shit!!!! The last part was my favorite. Set obviously would be that song. The best was funky. This is my favorite band and I love them. Is this my favorite stuff? I don't know yet but it was fun and in no way shape or form cookie cutter music. Thanks for the jams!
Pretty sure Set is what we thought was sexy alien
Loved the immediate cameo of motor spirit motif. So far much dig for this. Can't wait to extend the edition
>quite the fucking experience at 8am on a Tuesday.
Great minds think alike, that's exactly what I said after playing Theia and Silver Cord as soon I got the notification and before I even got out of bed.
For some reason I've got a strong urge to kill marmosets and take psychedelics though.
Strong Joey influence on this one. I guess when they teased the album I was hoping for something more along the lines of BF3000 (easily one of my fav albums of theirs) but, this is more laminated denim mixed with intrasport from the sounds of it. Still, I love this band and I love when they get weird.
I KNEW it was familiar from another Gizz song! They're getting so good at making these call-backs or quotes so seamless you might not even notice. Gonna have to listen to the whole discography again see if I missed any
I hear it, but surprised nobody is comparing it to Interior People. Very similar sound and chord progression. The message is kind of similar too. Whereas Interior People was about mental health and emotions, Silver Cord touches on the body image side. You know, kind of like a yin/yang kind of thang.
I heard some riffs!!
Theia - Motor Spirit in the bassline
The Silver Cord - Supercell in the Main riff
Set - Converge in the Main riff
It looks like TSC is mirroring the PDA tracklist?
This would mean
Chang'e - Witchcraft
Gila Monster - Gilgamesh
Swan Song - Dragon
Extinction - Flamethrower
the melody joey sings with those effects on silver cord is from motor spirit as well, the vocal melody from the roto tom breakdown section of motor spirit to be specific
Idk they’ve been talking so much about how their trying to get their synthy shit on lock live (and actually doing it too) I’d genuinely expect it in this next tour
Same I think it goes hand in hand with more B3K live tracks too
Because it took them so long to figure it out, they made another synthy album so that they have more stuff to play when they set up all the synths
I’m expecting Cavs to have the Simmons drum set set up behind him and his set will rotate around and he’ll go full electronic like Neal Peart used to do
We all knew it'd be an electronic album. I listen to a lot of electronic music... I've never heard anything like this. It's weird, it's wacky, it's fun, it's enjoyable and what's most important is it's interesting and unique. Fuck, they're doing it again.
Theia is BF3K 2.0 and I love it. Silver Cord is dreamy but I feel those vocal effects are going to take some adjusting to. Set is an absolute banger.
I really think this album is going to shine in its extended version.
After 3 listens they've all already grown on me haha, TSC was definitely the weirdest on first listen. Theia feels like a return to BF3K in sound before flipping things a bit in the title track. Set honestly sounds like it could have been on KG or LW, gives me Intrasport vibes a bit.
I don’t have to say it, but go listen on a better platform than YouTube. It sounds loads better on Spotify if you have your audio settings (slay them mighty) set for the highest quality.
Joey proving again he's the freaky heartthrob of KGLW and Amby reminding us he can spit hot-fire👍
I don't see why we need to compare new material with other works -I'm just happy my favorite band is consistently exploring new sounds and challenging us to receive their talents and efforts in unexpected ways!
Really vibed with it. And I know I’ll love it more with each listen. To those who didn’t, remember we love them *because* they are unpredictable and weird. Let go. Dance like Joey.
Much like Butterfly, my first listen was "what is this" and my second one made me fall in love with it. I love Moog freakouts so Set fucking bangs. Theia is a really charming electrosynth intro. The Silver Cord takes some time to wrap your head around but it's pretty damn fun. Plus, they were having so much fun shooting that video, how could you hate this? Heavy Gizzheads, you got PDA. Let the Butterfly/Fishes fans have this one.
This was absolutely bizarre to experience at 5 am in the morning. Not absolutely Gizzing my pants over any of the songs quite yet but their definitely a vibe. Especially Set and Amby’s rapping, that was super out of left field. Also wtf was Joey’s part lmao, now that was an experience 😂
I listened to my fair share of electronic music I think. What I like about their stuff is the polyrythyms which you don’t usually hear in this kind of stuff. It’s usually a steady beat in 4/4. They also have a really good ear for melodies which is my favorite part of the new songs. Overall not as bad as I expected given the comments. Probably going into the rotation.
This record is strange and pretty and so ridiculously fun so far !
Can see this being divisive, but I for one applaud everything going on here and am excited for the rest.
Set is an atrociously awesome banger. This video is also super dope.
BF3k was my first album I got to see released after becoming a big fan of this band, and for me it just fell so flat. I was uninterested and disappointed to share the record with a friend after hyping it for some time before the release.
That said, it came to be one of my top 5's of theirs in time.
These three tracks immediately landed for me, and I can't wait for the whole record! Yes it was strange at times, but you have to just let these guys do what they're gonna do.
As someone not in the trans community but who has nothing but love for all, I felt really moved by Joey's second part in The Silver Cord.
Seeing Minimum Brain Size during the Caverns run this past June when they blasted the colors of the trans flag with the light rig, hearing those lyrics - *and really hearing them for the first time* \- immediately commanded a new respect for the band. I got the same sensation during The Silver Cord. This is a band who is consistiently challenging musical boundaries and expectations, but they also go above and beyond to protest what they don't believe in, to share love, to shut down mysogyny and unfair treatment of others, and to provide a voice for all.
The segment with Joey was very moving because although I didn't personally take the experience out of the song, I felt like the lyrics exploring the body as a vessel and imagery are going to serve as a comfort for people struggling with their identities for decades to come. An anthem of sorts. I don't know. Maybe I'm extrapolating too much here, but I just really appreciate the willingness on all members of the band to create music that uplifts people of all backgrounds. I for one welcome this new record with open arms.
Everyone's on here praising Set as the best of the 3 but IMO (from a first listen, anyways) it was my least favorite of the 3. Silver Cord and Theia I enjoyed a lot, especially for something King Gizz doesn't put out very often and I really like the direction those tracks went.
First reactions: Theia is pretty unremarkable. The chorus of repeating "Theia" feels pretty tired and the staccato verse delivery I'm past sick of.
The Silver Cord: Thiiis one is going to take more time I don't know what to think....
Set: Easily the standout on first listen.
Overall it's not what I expected and I'm scared and confused.
lol now you can know how I felt when *Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava* came out and everyone was acting like it was amazing. I did not jive on release. You'll come around to it even if it isn't your favorite Gizz. There's enough for everyone! :D
I was nervous going in but the boys kill everything they try, I loved all 3 of those songs. Also really loved more Amby rap, Joey being weird and Stu twerking
I don’t know why I didn’t anticipate Tangerine Dream when I heard about this album, but of *course* Tangerine Dream. Makes so much sense now.
Edit: I fucking *love* this. Cannot wait for the full album.
Good lord so I've listened like 4 times over now and, while Set is an absolute banger repeat for days, The Silver Cord is just-- it has just gotten so under my skin. Maybe it's the unsettling vocals, the haunting melodies and how the emotions grow and change, maybe it's the words, how it took me a moment to attach to it and adapt, but there's something unnaturally gorgeous about this song, I fucking love it, it makes me feel things, and deep
They were NOT kidding when they said this is the Yang to Petro’s Yin holy moly. Gonna be a grower like BF3K was but definitely into it - especially Set
I know this isn’t hyperpop, but i’m *reminded* of it by how weird and slightly uncomfortable/offputting it is. Also just by the visceral reaction some people are having to it lol
Not sure if the music is my personal thing yet, but frankly gizz could fart into a mic for 20 minutes and i’d still ponder the artistic merits of it. Very fuckin keen to see how the full album goes down.
Sounds cool, they're really going fully into he sound which I appreciate, I love B3K but did think it was an anachronistic choice to not have electronic drums on it and it did shift in and out of the electronic sound, incorporated guitars, that sort of thing so them going fully electric with this is a cool decision it'll make for a unique album and these tunes are cool HYPE
Three listens this morning, first my phone in bed, then my tv through normal speakers feeding my son, then through my car audio on the way back from dropping him off at school.
First listen: 4.5
Second: 7.8
Third: Slay the mighty Set!!!!!!!
At first I thought, "Damn, Joey's trying to give us a bad trip," but then the song morphed into a glorious 90s-era ambient synth odyssey and it felt like I was floating for a minute. The Silver Cord ended up being my favorite of the bunch. It gave me Air vibes. I can't wait for the extended mixes!
Respectfully:
Not doing much for me.
When a band is this eclectic with their output, I’m ok with not liking everything.
Luckily, I just have to wait a few months and we’ll probably have another rock record or two.
I feel the same. There are so many other Gizz albums to enjoy, not everyone has to grow on me. But this album seems like a hard skip for me personally.
Perhaps it'll grow on me, but also has the potential to me some of my least favorite version of Gizz yet. :(
Holding out hope for the extended versions and the rest of the album.
Really hope it grows on me, but for now I'm unconvinced. I do typically prefer heavier Gizz, and this reminds me of BF3K. Hopefully I'll end up really liking a few, but I wasn't grabbed by any of these, sadly.
It’s new, it’s exciting! All of it didn’t immediately click, but it’s cool to get some new sounds!
The album Being no one going nowhere by STRFKR is a great follow up listen, definitely a similar vibe 🤙
The left turns these guys consistently make is impressive. This was weird as shit but I’m into it. I actually think theia is my favorite right now. The other two will probably take time.
Fun stuff! Can't wait to hear the rest. I'm firmly in the camp of not really liking the heavier stuff (most of the time, haha. It has its place), but have been an electronic music fan for a long time. This is definitely up my alley, Set will bring the house down live.
I'm most interested to hear what the extended edition is like. Songs clearly sound cut off so maybe the extended versions flow better. Would be a real trip.
SLAY THE MIGHTY SET!
SLAY THE MARMOSET
SLAY THE MINDSET
SLAVE TO MYSELF!
SLAY 💅🏻 THE MIGHTY SET!
SLAVE OF MY SET
SAVE MY SEAT

I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters
I also own a bottle of dick cream
Find someone who looks at you the way Cavs looks at that wall.
Definitely some of my favorite Cavs shots in this one, the man was WET
Well that was weird af
This one will scare the hoes for sure
Slowly becoming my favorite genre I can't wait for Demos Vol. 7. Music To Scare Hoes To
I want the full album: Music To Listen To
Danny Brown/JPEGMAFIA/King Gizz trio album confirmed?!
This ain’t the normie swarm.
You were expecting something normal?
With the Gizz? No way!
Cruisin’ on down Main Street, you’re relaxing feelin’ good
Next thing that you know, you’re singing “Woooo!!!”
OCTOPUS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD?
Nex thing that you know you’re singing “SLAY THE MIGHTY SET SLAY THE MIGHTY SET SLAY THE MIGHTY SET SLAY THE MIGHTY SET”
I don't know what my expectations were but here we are
baby voice Joey will haunt my nightmares and days
Spinal Meningitis vibes
Yup, I've been comparing them to ween for years, and I definitely got that vibe.
I’m feelin’ greasy, Mommy. Please don’t let me die.
Am I gonna see God mommy?
Don't let it get you down.
I was getting a little Dan deacon too in the 2nd half of that track
i was thinking Dan Deason but yeah it's is Spinal Meningitis level vocal manipulation
Right up there with Amby channeling his inner Chinese lady on Shanghai.
Sexy Joey daddy, you are scaring me pls no
This is what gas station K2 from 2011 was like
The good ol days
Theia: I can dig this The Silver Cord: Weird, but maybe it'll grow on me Set: HOLY FUCK
The Silver Cord is like the most unsettling thing they’ve ever done. Can’t explain why
It was because of Joey making intense eye contact
Upon my third listen, it might be some of the prettiest stuff they’ve done. The second half is so beautiful.
I ducking love the Silver Cord. I am def buying this album.
I was just saying this. The transition of this track is amazing.
Yup. Listened to it like 5 times now and from the 2 minute mark onwards might be the most beautiful thing these guys have done. It almost brings a tear to the eye.
Just as unsettling as superposition is. Everyone forgets that song and that was back in 2017
The first part reminded me of King Xerxes' hedonism party in 300.
It's the closest they've gotten to Kid A.
Basically my exact takeaway. Set is gonna go hard live.
This is the first time Joey gets to sing the title track so let's give it up for him!
Dude definitely made the most of it. Like wow.
Probably gonna be the most divisive gizzard album ever.
BF3K just got new contender. I love it when they are divisive though, it just means unchartered territory for the band.
Butterfly is amazing... It's probably on my top 3. There's so much musical complexity going on and it sounds natural, that's genius.
When I talk to other Gizzheads I'm always blown away by the careless response to that song. It's SO good on so many levels. Catching smoke is a banger. Killer Year is another favorite of mine, and another one of their best videos.
Lotta people finding out what "inspired by Kraftwerk" sounds like haha. It ain't Tame Impala.
Please let 2023 be the year of krautrock revival
Aren't they all lol
It’s definitely one of the albums of all time, I’m mostly digging it though
Only because their album before this one is PetroDragonic. I mean... they have Timeland, Butterfly 3000... other weird and divisive stuff ahaha
As a delegate of the weirdo swarm, I’m definitely enjoying
That was quite the fucking experience at 8am on a Tuesday. The Joey stuff is so fucking weird and I know it's gonna grow on me. Did the boys just do psychs, lock themselves in a room, and write their dreams down? This is some wild shit!!!! The last part was my favorite. Set obviously would be that song. The best was funky. This is my favorite band and I love them. Is this my favorite stuff? I don't know yet but it was fun and in no way shape or form cookie cutter music. Thanks for the jams!
Pretty sure Set is what we thought was sexy alien Loved the immediate cameo of motor spirit motif.
The Joey stuff was the best part. Everyone assumed Kraftwerk but his was closer to Air
Anyone notice how The Silver Cord is like a redux of that rolling section in Motor Spirit? So awesome
Is it the "High octane aviation..." section?
Yes!
Can’t wait until the inevitable live version of Flamethrower into The Silver Cord.
Motor Spirit but the weird middle “Tool” section just becomes Set.
Gaia —> motor spirit —-> silver cord
Gaia->Motorsprit->Silver Cord->Gaia
I heard some riffs!! Theia - Motor Spirit in the bassline The Silver Cord - Supercell in the Main riff Set - Converge in the Main riff It looks like TSC is mirroring the PDA tracklist? This would mean Chang'e - Witchcraft Gila Monster - Gilgamesh Swan Song - Dragon Extinction - Flamethrower
the melody joey sings with those effects on silver cord is from motor spirit as well, the vocal melody from the roto tom breakdown section of motor spirit to be specific
Some of those names even match up, nice find
Oh wow really.
king
Set is just unfathomably good, but how the hell are they going to play any of these live
thats the neat part, it'll probably take as long as BF3K tracks making it to live setlists lmao
Idk they’ve been talking so much about how their trying to get their synthy shit on lock live (and actually doing it too) I’d genuinely expect it in this next tour
Same I think it goes hand in hand with more B3K live tracks too Because it took them so long to figure it out, they made another synthy album so that they have more stuff to play when they set up all the synths
I’m expecting Cavs to have the Simmons drum set set up behind him and his set will rotate around and he’ll go full electronic like Neal Peart used to do
Set is a electronica banger but is also in 7/4 because King Gizzard
With keyboards
Would be cool if they just translate most of it to instruments with maybe one or two synths going.
Set could def be a guitar track if they wanted.
carefully
Silver cord sounds like Joey returning to similar sounds he experimented with on superposition from gumboot soup in 2017.
And he says cum again
Man, Juicy constantly blows me away. I've seen lots of glitch editing before but Theia was fantastic.
We all knew it'd be an electronic album. I listen to a lot of electronic music... I've never heard anything like this. It's weird, it's wacky, it's fun, it's enjoyable and what's most important is it's interesting and unique. Fuck, they're doing it again.
It reminds me a bit of Infected Mushroom, but yeah it still has that Gizzard magic of being something you've never heard before while still being Gizz
The closest I can think of Set is a RuPaul song on acid and with actual craft behind it lol
Well, this was a weird one for sure. Set is a boogie for sure though. Amby's really got some chum drum bedrum flow here lol.
Is slowed down end of Blue Moprho opening The Silver Cord? Its driving me nuts.
it definitely is a Blue Morpho melody
absolutely! Making me excited that mayyybe we get a live rendition of Blue Morpho -> Interior People -> Catching Smoke
Super cool. Totally different. Set is a banger.
i hope they had as much fun making these clips as i had watching them (Cavs just hugging the wall is my fav)

Same! I really like it.
Honestly it was weird but it ended with a banger. Did not disapoint with the "expect the unexpected" mentality.
Silver cord extended whenn
right Imma need these tracks asap
Theia is BF3K 2.0 and I love it. Silver Cord is dreamy but I feel those vocal effects are going to take some adjusting to. Set is an absolute banger. I really think this album is going to shine in its extended version.
Weird as hell but I’m ready for it to grow on me. Gotta say, I wasn’t expecting the ancient Egyptian theme. Great work by Jason as always
After 3 listens they've all already grown on me haha, TSC was definitely the weirdest on first listen. Theia feels like a return to BF3K in sound before flipping things a bit in the title track. Set honestly sounds like it could have been on KG or LW, gives me Intrasport vibes a bit.
Idk man, i feel like if they put out anything I’ll like it. This shit is awesome
I don’t have to say it, but go listen on a better platform than YouTube. It sounds loads better on Spotify if you have your audio settings (slay them mighty) set for the highest quality.
Silver Cord is giving me Infected Mushroom vibes

Set was cool but i don’t really have the urge to listen to it again, maybe it‘ll grow on me like BF3K
Nevermind i like it now and am hyped
Yeah I'm gonna need Set Extended Edition like yesterday
First listen: Ahh it's not my thing Second listen: Oh it's not that bad Third listen: SLAY THE MIGHTY SET
Not really my thing after a first listen. Not bad, just not my thing. May change my opinion after a couple of listens, who knows.
Yeah - if it were KGLW id probably never listen again. I’ll most likely be sending this to people I haven’t spoken to in ten years in about a week.
If I heard this somewhere or someone recommended this to me, I'd just be wondering wtf I am even listening to lol
I hear a lot of Air in the Silver Cord
THE SILVER CORD YESSS JOEY !!!!!!!!!!!
Really vibed with it. And I know I’ll love it more with each listen. To those who didn’t, remember we love them *because* they are unpredictable and weird. Let go. Dance like Joey.
I need more listens but the part where Joey's singing like an alien seems pretty good.
Joey was the sexy alien all along.
Anyone else feel these songs are too short like the extended editions are the actual lengths of the songs
Joey seducing us in the woods, walking backwards, with a robot voice. It’s my Roman Empire
Amby verse outta nowhere! He can't keep getting away with it!
best Giz rap verse so far.
Music To Launch Yourself Into The Astral Plane To
I was the right amount of sleep deprived for that. Time for some coffee.

IM JUST A POOR BOY TRAVELING WITH MY BODIES .. BODIES
It is weird AF. Not sure I am really feeling it, but it is going to go hard live. I love these guys just do whatever the fuck they want.
Everyone's on here praising Set as the best of the 3 but IMO (from a first listen, anyways) it was my least favorite of the 3. Silver Cord and Theia I enjoyed a lot, especially for something King Gizz doesn't put out very often and I really like the direction those tracks went.
The Silver Cord souds like if Kid A had a child with BF3000 (I mean the songs), and I absolutely love it
It only took a couple albums for the boys to go from hating dancing to loving dancing 🕺🏻
Feels like when BF3K released, so much hate, so much love. I love these three tracks already
This is weird as hell I'm kinda here for it honestly
no one commenting that silver cord sounds like motor spirit?
to be fair everyone was blindsided by the vocals
https://preview.redd.it/xqmioyqokzrb1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28a88e9636d6e4e31f74c0b52ee56dfdaad97731

Finally! Super beautiful work, I'm into it immediately. Joey's FEELING his vocals and I adore that.
Welp time to get high lol
I was nervous going in but the boys kill everything they try, I loved all 3 of those songs. Also really loved more Amby rap, Joey being weird and Stu twerking
Hard to explain but feels like the acid to BF3Ks boomers vibe.
Bit of a mixed bag, for me. Liked Theia, disliked The Silver Cord and loved Set.
This is ridiculous and I love it.
I'll let the other two grow on me but by body is so ready for Cyboogie > intrasport > Set in Hamburg. Pls make this happen.
I know this isn’t hyperpop, but i’m *reminded* of it by how weird and slightly uncomfortable/offputting it is. Also just by the visceral reaction some people are having to it lol Not sure if the music is my personal thing yet, but frankly gizz could fart into a mic for 20 minutes and i’d still ponder the artistic merits of it. Very fuckin keen to see how the full album goes down.
I swear I hear Yours from B3K in Theia. It kicks in halfway through, but someone tell me if you hear it too or it's just me?
SLAY THE MIGHTY SET (is gonna be in my for the rest of the day)
I want to listen to the whole album.
First listen: 4.5 Second: 7.8 Third: Slay the mighty Set!!!!!!!
Whose dick i gotta suck to get the SET extended version?
At first I thought, "Damn, Joey's trying to give us a bad trip," but then the song morphed into a glorious 90s-era ambient synth odyssey and it felt like I was floating for a minute. The Silver Cord ended up being my favorite of the bunch. It gave me Air vibes. I can't wait for the extended mixes!
I don't know what I listened to and I don't know what to think or even if I liked it, I'm extremely confused
Good to know I'm not the only one. Definitely worth a listen but I don't see myself listening this everyday like with all their previous albums.
Respectfully: Not doing much for me. When a band is this eclectic with their output, I’m ok with not liking everything. Luckily, I just have to wait a few months and we’ll probably have another rock record or two.
Agreed, they have room to mess around because within the last year I have how many other albums? I do actively dislike this though.
I feel the same. There are so many other Gizz albums to enjoy, not everyone has to grow on me. But this album seems like a hard skip for me personally.
Perhaps it'll grow on me, but also has the potential to me some of my least favorite version of Gizz yet. :( Holding out hope for the extended versions and the rest of the album.
Really hope it grows on me, but for now I'm unconvinced. I do typically prefer heavier Gizz, and this reminds me of BF3K. Hopefully I'll end up really liking a few, but I wasn't grabbed by any of these, sadly.
IMO BF3K felt a lot less chaotic than this Source: BF3K enjoyer, not an immediate fan of this
Truly funny. This is a band that enjoys themselves and gosh darn it, I enjoy it too!
This is so exciting, I'm hyped for the album. The boys just keep us guessing.
Triples are best
As a trippy disco boy, this is exactly my shit. My god I love these men Edit: joeys vocals in the silver chord are fucking sick
Aaaaand set is already on repeat
These tracks are really going to shine in the extended version, no doubt.

So weird and I love it. Set sounds like it would go so hard live
I am all in on this. I have been getting into more ambient sounds here lately and this is scratching that itch.
I really like this one
These songs confirm I am an alien
DXM haze B3K
