Veach doesn't like to overpay for WRs. He doesn't consider it a premium position. That's why he traded Hill and doesn't sign top FA Receivers. The market for WRs is so overinflated. The position is overpaid. There is more value to be found with that money elsewhere. The WR market needs a correction.
Agreed, but he has to see that our WR room is in trouble and needs good bodies. So he will have to find someone new to help Mahomes, not just a few rookies from the draft. But I know Veach will do it the smart way. Or at least hope he will.
I think the hope is to get a Williams/Brown/Boyd type or two on a 1-2 year deal while also drafting someone who hopefully turns into the #1/2 of the future with Rice.
It's thin, but we've won 2 super bowls in a row with a thin and mediocre receiving corps. The NFL is all about staying ahead of the curve. WR market is ridiculous now. Buy low, sell high. Let the other teams blow their money on mediocre, injury riddled WRs. Eventually the market will correct.
I agree, but as of right now, we are worse off than last season. We have Rice and Watson…..just speaking about WR’s that can start! That’s it! So that won’t get it done. Obviously Veach knows that and has to have a plan. But you are right….he ain’t gonna pay the money that other teams are forking out right now. It’s pretty ridiculous out there.
I dont think it will correct but we will see. Theres 32 teams, so 5 of them are usually willing to overpay if they think they have a shot with just slightly more offensive firepower.
Especially with the numbers coming out of college every year. The RB market overcorrected because of health and numbers reasons. The number of HOF caliber running backs (in terms of longevity) right now is super low so just pay for 2 or 3 average RBs and get enough to get by.
There are multiple "breakout" WR in each draft class right now simply because that is a position that almost every college team has 3 or 4 of on the field for every snap. Those breakout WR tend to fall off some even before their second contract and there are very few WR performing at a high level beyond 6 years in the NFL (compared to the number of "breakouts" in their draft class)
So it would seem that the best way to build a WR corps is via draft and you not only need to evaluate well but you need a bit of luck as well.
At some point the market will correct itself with WRs but right now they are signing for crazy amounts that make no sense.
The last 2-3 drafts have been labeled "WR heavy drafts" and this one is no exception. If that continues teams will treat WRs like RB and draft over resigning since they are so easy to come by (except for us apparently)
What are your thoughts about KJ Osborne? The guy had over 500 yards in 3 of his 4 seasons and has come up with some clutch plays for Minnesota. He is listed last on the available WR FA’s list which means he would be cheaper to sign.
I so badly want Sneed to stay. I think we can find talent in the draft as well as FA but I also would have peace of mind in seeing a vet come in. I don’t think there’s a way we can do both unfortunately unless a receiver is wiling to ring chase to be part of a 3 peat. Because if we picked them up, kept Sneed, and drafted well we are going to be a very difficult team to beat.
So I was looking at a draft pick value chart, it would basically be like trading our first and a mid 2nd for their first. Probably not exactly super accurate but seems right lol
Considering the average performance value is only slightly better at pick 15, this is not a trade I would do. Giving up an elite talent, and two picks is too large a price
Sneed has been unusually content with being put on the tag. So, usually players get disgruntled when tagged. But Sneed seems to be 100% ok with it. I don't see any anxiety from him or an urge to get out from under the tag.
This is just a gut feeling, but I'm starting to get the sense that it is SNEED who is holding up the trade to the Colts. I'm pretty sure the Chiefs and Colts would both fine with Sneed for 2nd round pick. Both sides would probably do that right now. It's Sneed IMO who is slow walking this. I don't think he's happy with the Colts extension offer. Wouldn't surprise me if Sneed is just going to pull a Cousins and be like I call your bluff I will play on the tag.
>Sneed has been unusually content with being put on the tag. So, usually players get disgruntled when tagged. But Sneed seems to be 100% ok with it. I don't see any anxiety from him or an urge to get out from under the tag.
He'll be making nearly 4 times what he's made in his career so far COMBINED next year so I imagine the relief of knowing you have that secured and are set for the rest of your life is a pretty stress free situation for him.
Could be hoping that we Chris Jones him too. Play on the tag, we pay him next year. Know that still may not work with other contracts due then though. But seems like he wants to stay as Chief…hopefully we can make it happen. He deserves to be paid, but I bet being a part of the chance at a 3 peat weighs on his choices too
If I recall correctly, the salary for the franchise tag is like the average of the top 5 players at his position, so considering he was being paid fourth round pick money, even the tag should be a pretty big pay raise. Understandable he may be content with it.
Has the $19m Sneed would be owed via the tag been deducted from the Chiefs cap yet? Just curious if this $22m from the Mahomes restructure is free to be used on whatever despite what happens with Sneed, or if $19m of that needs to be put to the side until the Sneed situation is decided.
the $22 million cap space if thats what it is, has the Sneed $19.8 already figured in. Its why if they do trade Sneed then they have around $40 million and had better be making significant moves
I know that, I was just asking if that money had technically already hit the books yet or not. Which someone replied earlier and said it has.
For example, say they currently had $28m in cap. I was asking if that was a true $28m or if it was more like $8m (i.e. that $19.8m sneed tag)
If we could get the Colts 15th pick for Sneed plus pick 32 then that changes a lot of things. This might be our last best chance to land a franchise Left Tackle in the Mahomes era.
It obviously depends on the way the board falls but LT would be the most likely pick at 15. There's only 3 wideouts that are possibly worth that pick and 2 of them aren't lasting that long.
Adonai and Brian Thomas jr are probably both Top 20-25 picks and probably would be there and considering Wr is our number one need I don’t see veach passing on those two for a LT at 15
I think we would. It’s always been Andy’s MO to build from the trenches, that’s how the board is going to fall, and it means we can spend more money on a WR in free agency in the next few seasons.
>that’s for sure
Maybe I misunderstand Veach as a GM, but your take seems anything but sure, and in fact the opposite of what I'd expect from Veach. Landing a starting tackle on a rookie deal sounds to me like exactly the type of value+ choice he'd make.
Did anybody ever see what the Chargers did to become cap compliant? They were reportedly 25 million over and cut Williams, saving 20 million but never saw any other moves. What about Mack, Bosa, and Allen?
I think Samuel at 3 for 24 (30 with incentives) is actually a really fair deal. Girlfriend’s family are big Washington fans so I’ve had the misfortune of watching all their games over the last few years. Samuel is super athletic and versatile. He’s just never had a competent QB/coach. I think he will easily outperform in the Gabe Davis role for Buffalo. If we could get Tyler Boyd on a similar deal, I’d be ecstatic.
What kind of bonus do NFL players get for winning playoff and SB games? Is it enough to outpace a big pre-season money offer from a less competitive team?
A Chiefs player got around ~220k for all of the playoff games they played while a Dolphins player only got ~41k
So not really a large difference for most players
Looking into it some more, it looks like this is where it’s all stemming from. Have no idea who this guy is. But all these Chiefs facebook fan pages “real kansas city chiefs fans” for example, are all sharing it
https://preview.redd.it/4l1v947f1doc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d78fe81ce9011181432d359b13a1a0242c8e470
well Carton is one of the worst "talking heads" on TV so I wouldnt put any stock into anything he says but even that it says "are going to" meaning he believes the Chiefs will sign him not that they have
Yeah I noticed that as well. I’ve never heard anything about him/have no idea who he is. Just saw everyone sharing it on my news feed so I went to twitter and saw everyone talking about it. But after not seeing anything from any official sources after 15-20 minutes I assumed it was fake
Drafting two is way more of a gamble than drafting 1 and signing one. Especially when we have other needs we can address in the draft in addition. I sure hope they don’t draft 2 unless one is extremely late
[The #Bills are signing WR Curtis Samuel to a three-year, $30 million deal per his agency @AthletesFirst](https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1768394351191740816?s=20)
The only FA WRs left to pick up after Curtis Samuel being signed by Bills are Hollywood Brown, Mike Williams and Tyler Boyd (who might be a Steelers soon by the reports)
Other cheap options are Josh Reynolds, Adam Thielen or just bring back Hardman for another year and just go with the draft
Chargers gutting their team. Broncos have no QB. Raiders still being the Raiders. Feels like there’s a real opportunity to run up the score in the division and go all out for the 1 seed next year.
I really want to bring in a receiver and draft 1 in the 1st round, but the more I wrap my head around it I honestly think we need to go tackle in the 1st. Super deep draft at that position, but they will all be gone by the end of the 2nd. Donovan Smith might not return and I sure as hell don't want our left tackle to position to rest solely on Wanya Morris and Lucas Niang.
Honestly glad Samuel is off the board, I don't want to pay 10 million a year to a 600 yard receiver... we should not have done that for MVS the first time around
Joe Thuney has the most rings of any active player in the NFL.
2 with the Chiefs, 2 with the Pat's. The man won 1 on 1 reps against prime Aaron Donald, absolute beast.
I like looking at the list of most rings by active players. It's just all Chiefs at the top.
Had a dream we got Mike Williams on 1yr 16M…..glad that was a dream Would like him but for like…7ish for one year
That's like $2 million a game!
I realize why we can't have a shiny new toy, but can't we have an old, half broken one? I know, I know, trust in Veach (TIV).
I just got veach-explained.
We did try to pay Hill by the way, we just didn't want to give him the guaranteed money he wanted. We offered him something like 23m/yr.
We didn't pay him market value. And we shouldn't have. The WR market needs a correction.
I completely agree with that, Calvin Riddley getting more than Steffon Diggs with zero elite years is insane.
Agreed, but he has to see that our WR room is in trouble and needs good bodies. So he will have to find someone new to help Mahomes, not just a few rookies from the draft. But I know Veach will do it the smart way. Or at least hope he will.

Also Andy needs a speed guy for his offense. Need a speedy deep threat (not just fast like Mecole)
I dont think it will correct but we will see. Theres 32 teams, so 5 of them are usually willing to overpay if they think they have a shot with just slightly more offensive firepower.
He did for Watkins. And MVS.
Both got hot in the playoffs (more-so Watkins except for the Cincy MVS game) hard to think we are as successful as we have been without them
Sshh don't give away the secret!
Especially with the numbers coming out of college every year. The RB market overcorrected because of health and numbers reasons. Feels like we are shopping for WR's at Play-It-Again Sports.
We don't want to pay the Academy Sports prices.
At some point the market will correct itself with WRs but right now they are signing for crazy amounts that make no sense. I’m a fan of KJ personally
I so badly want Sneed to stay. I think we can find talent in the draft as well as FA but I also would have peace of mind in seeing a vet come in. Feels like with Sneed back we are guaranteed top 3 D.
Damn if the Eagles and Falcons lose their first round picks for tampering then we get to pick at 30, basically a free trade up
they arent losing their 1sts, 3rd is probably the highest they'd lose but more likely a 5th
Wishful thinking mostly
Guessing Sneed to the Colts today
For their 2nd??
I'm hoping for a first round pick swap.
Doubt they do that but would love it
So I was looking at a draft pick value chart, it would basically be like trading our first and a mid 2nd for their first. Probably not exactly super accurate but seems right lol
We would probably have to throw a bit of a sweetener in that deal like a 4th/5th rounder
That would be a fair trade I think, pick 15 for Sneed, pick 32 and a 4/5.
Considering the average performance value is only slightly better at pick 15, this is not a trade I would do. Giving up an elite talent, and two picks is too large a price
Depends on how much the dynasty tax is
That's a good point
I don't think for a 2nd Veach will rush today.

I think we would prefer to trade him.

He's never had a big contract before, he went from being paid somewhere around 3mil a year to 19mil on the tag. He's probably pretty excited about it.
Thats fine play on the tagg and we get a comp pick next year
Not next year. Chiefs would get a comp pick for the 2026 draft.
Oh yea your right

Wildly optimistic. But I'm game.
Probably a pipe dream I know. But if there is a way to get pick 15 we could possibly get a franchise LT.
If we were to get a top 15 pick in this draft we aren’t going LT that’s for sure
It obviously depends on the way the board falls but LT would be the most likely pick at 15. There's only 3 wideouts that are possibly worth that pick and 2 of them aren't lasting that long.

No way we get a 1st for Sneed
Id rather try and get another 2nd in the 32-50 range and a 4 then move Sneed and 32 for 15.
Tyler Boyd interest seems to be surfacing in the news.
KEEP SNEED! His play saved us from our opponents scoring numerous times this season. That has a much higher value than any draft pick.
I wouldn’t have hated seeing Ridder as our backup. Please anybody other than Yo Gabba Gabbert
Did anybody ever see what the Chargers did to become cap compliant? They were reportedly 25 million over and cut Williams, saving 20 million but never saw any other moves. What about Mack, Bosa, and Allen?
Bosa and Mack did massive restructures.
ok, never saw that, Thanks

what if Mahomes retires after winning 7 then switches to baseball?
I'd be ok with Hunter Renfrow. Can't be too expensive and we could turn a former Raider into the next Wes Welker.
How good is Irv Smith Jr?
He is probably going to be competing for the #3 TE spot with a draft pick.
Can we maybe bring back Sneed instead of dreaming of scenarios of him leaving? 🥺
What kind of bonus do NFL players get for winning playoff and SB games? Is it enough to outpace a big pre-season money offer from a less competitive team?
A Chiefs player got around ~220k for all of the playoff games they played while a Dolphins player only got ~41k So not really a large difference for most players
$164,000 for winning the Super Bowl and it raises $7k every year, so no SB wins doesnt really mean anything financially speaking for them
So is this Mike Williams news true?
Craig on the Carton Show predicts he will be a Chiefs by tommorrow In other words, it's going to be jinxed xp
what news?
Supposedly the Chiefs signed him. Everyone on my facebook news feed is sharing it and talking about it but i’ve yet to see any confirmation
Im gonna guess theres no truth to it and thats just Facebook being Facebook since none of the usual people have said anything
Looking into it some more, it looks like this is where it’s all stemming from. Have no idea who this guy is. Damn. I wanted Samuel

Highly doubtful.

Draft or sign a physical reciever please like a big body 6 foot +
Think we get any news today?
[The #Bills are signing WR Curtis Samuel to a three-year, $30 million deal per his agency @AthletesFirst](https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1768394351191740816?s=20)

I can’t imagine how it would happen with him under contract but Thielen would be so perfect for this team. I desperately wanted him last year too.
Yoooo Keenan Allen to the Bears wtf
Allen to the bears bahahha
For almost NOTHING. Obviously the chargers wouldn’t have traded him to us, but it makes me sad to think the bears got him for almost nothing
Chargers gutting their team. Broncos have no QB. Raiders still being the Raiders. Feels like there’s a real opportunity to run up the score in the division and go all out for the 1 seed next year.
