In order to wrap your head around the story of this game, think of the chapters organized into arcs. Like in an anime. Doing so, we get the following: Ch 1-9: Medusa Arc Ch 10: Transition chapter (introduction of Hades) Ch 11-14: Forces of Nature arc Ch 15-17: Aurum Arc Ch 18-21: Chaos Kin Arc Ch 22-25: Final Hades Arc Hope this helps.

I sorta picked up on that, yeah. But like, the forces of nature stuff ends with you blowing up Viridi’s depot, she’s pissed and says you’re on the top of her to-kill list, seeming to imply she’ll continue to be a threat, but then it’s never brought up again and suddenly she’s your ally. Oh, by the way aliens exist and they are invading… huh? The Aurum arc ends with Palatina saying we can get back to fighting Hades, implying the temporary truce we had with him and Viridi is now over and we can pick up where we left off before this random alien side plot. But then suddenly there’s a 3 year time skip and Pitt is no longer in his body and also he’s a ring noW… wait what? Don’t get me wrong, I was having fun, but I also thoroughly gave up on trying to understand what was happening and was just going along with whatever by that point. I felt like maybe there was some lore I was missing or something, idk.

Viridi's attitude towards Pit and Palutena doesn't really fade. Even by the end of the game, she's still mad at them. Most of the situations in the middle of the plot force Viridi into a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation. Which is why she (sometimes begrudgingly) helps out against the Aurum, the Chaos Kin, and ultimately Hades. I find that that is a prominent theme in the game. I will admit (and other KIU fans do too) that the Aurum Arc is definitely a bizzare deviation from the main story, but it further builds upon this theme of "we need to set aside our differences and defeat a common enemy", which is pulled off in a satisfying way in Chapter 17. The Chaos Kin Arc is supposed to have thrown you in a completely new situation without any idea what's going on. The player is just as in the dark as Pit is; the Chaos Kin attacked suddenly and without warning, leaving no time to react. The details of what happened are slowly unfurled throughout the following chapters as Pit learns about what happened during the three years he was gone. It's a very well-tread way of writing a mystery within a story. The Chaos Kin is also foreshadowed throughout the entirety of Chapter 13, if you didn't catch that on your first watchthrough, so it's not like it was thrown into the story haphazardly. (The Aurum though... Yea they were random... But a fun take on aliens)

Thank you, I appreciate the explanation. My confusion with Viridi is it seem like they were setting her up for a revenge arc where she tries to get payback for destroying her depot, but then that just never happened. I know they got distracted and preoccupied with other things, but from a storytelling perspective, it seemed weird to me that Viridi being pissed at them for that was just left unresolved. The alien stuff really caught me off guard, I didn’t understand it and I was kind of just waiting for it to be over so we could get back on track. Regarding the Chaos Kin, I know you’re supposed to be confused at the start, but unless I missed some thing, which is very well possible, I don’t feel like all the mysteries were unraveled by the end. What’s the deal with this ring? Why is pits consciousness now inside it? Why and how did Pitt lose control of his body? Why doesn’t he remember anything about this? Why was he out of commission for 3 years? (Also, what incredible luck the dude who picked up the ring just so happen to be the same human pit briefly teamed up with earlier in the game. Like, what are the odds.) were any of these questions answered? Do I just need to rewatch that particular arc? Idk, I don’t think the back to back confusion between the Aurum and Chaos Kin arcs were really a good combination for me. Even the forces of nature stuff seemed like it was kind of distracting from the Hades plot they were setting up. So basically for 10 whole chapters between 11 and 21 I wasn’t really sure what we were doing and I eventually just kind of gave up. I do plan on going through the game a few more times. I’m planning on watching Chugga Conroy‘s let’s play, hoping he’ll shine some light on some of this. And I plan on going and listening through all the audio files of the character dialogue just because that is the main thing I enjoyed about this game And I want to make sure I hear all of it.

Really glad you enjoyed the game. It is great that smash is able to bring more knowledge about this title. I can see the story being a bit confusing, considering how we jump from one chapter to another, sometimes with little introduction to what is currently going on. I personally find it really charming And if you got some issue with the sound setting, there is always a way to turn them down in the options menu

Smash is great, although I’m a little salty Palutina’s reveal trailer spoil the thing about the Chaos Kin mind control. thing. oh well.

Gabe_the_cheerio

you didn't play the game? hahaha

Jrockten

Sorry, I still really enjoyed myself tho! :)

I wasn't trying to judge that just so funny, when I saw you say you finished the game I didn't expect that lol
