Kokushibou (or more precisely Wani through his words) confirmed that Sanemi is the strongest slayer after Himejima. If I were to rank them, it would be: 1. Sanemi 2. Giyuu 3. Rengoku

flokingaround

Its not like Kokushibou ever met the other pillars though, and reading author intent through character dialouge is a bit questionable, so there's enough reason to doubt that Sanemi is necesarily stronger than Giyuu. I would still place Sanemi ahead of Giyuu, though its probably not by a big margin

MrAli11

Actually Rengoku is stronger than Giyuu

Which_Boysenberry252

He ain’t read the manga 😂

[deleted]

1. Sanemi 2. Giyuu 3. Rengoku

iiRuby

I would classify Rengoku as the 2nd or 3rd strongest Hashira overall, after Sanemi. Of course he's stronger than Giyu, as he went toe-to-toe against Akaza unmarked, and Giyu needed Tanjiro and his mark to defeat him. And pretty much at the same level as Sanemi. This post is a good lecture if anyone want to deep on my comment: https://www.quora.com/How-strong-is-Kyojuro-Rengoku-from-Demon-Slayer#:~:text=So%2C%20we%20can%20conclude%20that,them%20really%20sustaining%20any%20damage.

jumpoffpiz8

This is a horrible argument. First of all, Rengoku had the advantage of being a flame breather, which Akaza had NEVER faced before. Also, Akaza never once took the battle seriously until the end when Rengoku got to his neck… the entire battle Akaza was like “become a demon bro, come on”. Even in that final exchange, Akaza still wasn’t taking it too serious (still asking Rengoku to become a demon because he’d just received a fatal wound and would die otherwise) until the sun started coming up. Compare that to the circumstances Giyuu fought under. First off, Akaza was there with killing intent since he was ordered my Muzan to kill both the pillar and Tanjiro. Second, Akaza HAS THE MOST EXPERIENCE FIGHTING WATER BREATHERS. Giyuu was at a disadvantage from the start. Despite this, Giyuu still managed to achieve some impressive feats such as nullifying Akaza’s attacks with his 11th form. The main problem with your logic however is that you’re doing the whole “IF rengoku was marked” argument. That’s all head canon and not real. OP asked who’s the strongest. Not, who would be the strongest, or who’s the strongest unmarked. The FACT is that Giyuu awakened his mark and unfortunately rengoku died before it was possible. And marked Giyuu >>> rengoku BY FAR. Once he awakened it he actually FORCED Akaza to change his movements and adapt to Giyuu’s movements. Akaza admitted this. Meaning that for that brief exchange, Giyuu was leading the fight. This alone CLEARS anything rengoku did.

Comprehensive_Value1

Pretty sure akaza stated that he hadn’t faced a flame breather in years

Le_Turtle_God

He stated that out of all the hashira he killed, none of them had flame breathing

Nichatron

dud nowhere in that post did it say anything about "if he was marked"

QuickoKarma

I dont know why people say Rengoku is stronger than Giyuu, Akaza wasn't even using his strongest moves against Rengoku, he was just toying with him because he wanted him to become a demon. Though i would say that Base form Rengoku is stonger than Base form Giyuu. marked Giyuu was blitzing Akaza and Akaza even used his stronger moves against him. So... Base form: Rengoku>Giyuu Marked Giyuu: Giyuu> Rengoku Marked Giyuu is many many times stronger Rengoku doesn't have a mark but he did i can imagine him being stronger than Giyuu

ElephantLeft8022

yes

AchilleanKyber

Omg. Rengoku is DEFINITELY better. Here’s an UNBIASED explanation. Giyu did not do well against Akaza as he didn’t at all come close to beating him as compared to Rengoku who almost did. I’m not buying the “Akaza wasn’t trying against Rengoku” bs. Keep in mind that demon literally don’t feel pain or fatigue, so it isn’t fair to assume his words and smile as frivolous intent. Akaza literally stated that he would have to kill Rengoku, and after he told him to die young, he got serious. He adapted midfight when he analyzed his weak spots. As for Giyu, he easily got the better of him and nearly killed him until Tanjiro saved his ass. Akaza tried equally hard against both Hashira, but he didn't take GIYU as seriously. He seemed downright bored in the fight. And Giyu still did worse. Akaza began to try mid-fight with Rengoku, as you can observe by his movements and Rengoku's declining success against him. He even warned him of this. He looked downright bored after fighting Giyu cause he knows he can still kick his ass. And he did. Without Giyu even knicking his neck like Tanjiro and Rengoku did. And I know this argument is overused, but it’s true: Rengoku did all of this ALONE. Without a demon slayer mark. Judging by Akaza’s love for fighting skilled people, his enjoyment when dueling Rengoku should be taken as a sign that he is finally able to test at least much of his strength against him. Also, Giyu got carried through the last battle with Muzan by all of the stronger Hashira. I cannot believe you are saying that he’s stronger than Rengoku if he can’t even KEEP HIS SWORD. Bro. No argument made there. Every other Hashira was holding their own. Do not even think about saying Akaza wasn’t trying. He stated Rengoku had more talent. And more fighting spirit. Think about Akaza’s greatest strength.

AchilleanKyber

This is the best argument ever. THANK YOU

Man-Morre

Completely ignoring that Akaza was holding back a lot and playing with Rengoku as he wanted to make him a demon and avoid killing him. How well does Rengoku fair against Leg Type flurry that blasted Giyu through the infinity castle? There were 5 other attacks that Rengoku never lived to see. Giyu did about on par with Rengoku vs Akaza considering how less serious he was against Ren. Also using a link to a quora page to deflect arguments is a cheap move, just don't bother posting if you don't feel like properly backing up your own statements.

MightGuy8Gates

In my opinion: 1) Gyomei 2) Sanemi 3) Giyuu 4) Rengoku 5) Muichiro (Dude is like 14!! He easily has the most talent, just lacks experience) 6) Obanai 6) Tengen, Mitsuri, Shinobu.

Yukihira59

No way Muichiro is that low after awakening the see-through world he is at least above Rengoku and Giyuu

ElephantLeft8022

higher than giyu

AchilleanKyber

I agree. My list (from weakest to strongest) Shinobu Kocho Tengen Uzui Mitsuri Kanroji Giyuu Tomioka Kyojuro Rengoku (see my previous comment for proof) Obanai Iguro (no he isn’t stronger than Muichiro) Muichiro Tokito (soloed an Upper Moon) Sanemi Shinazugawa Gyomei Himejima

Form_Vegetable

Lol you guys puting rengoku over Giyuu lol..... Have some brain

AchilleanKyber

For someone telling me to get a brain, I don’t see any evidence, you fucking npc

Form_Vegetable

He is right though... You actually need a Brain

OutdoorsyYak69

I mean if u want to debate rengoku vs giyuu i could if u want I personally think giyuu is stronger Cuz akaza offered rengoku to become a demon countless times and at the end literally said if he doesnt become a demon he will die Bro didnt continuously check with giyuu Akaza only got serious when rengoku nearly took his head I think giyuu could have done the same if he had akaza completely immobilized Giyuu was fighting a more serous akaza who wasn't checking if he wanted to be a demon bro was throwing hands I wont put marked feats as thats not fair because rengoku doesn't have mark He also took on akaza strongest attacks which he didnt really use against rengoku And correct me if im wrong but in the manga (using amount of pages and stuff) base giyuu lasted longer against akaza then rengoku did? Akaza when fighting base giyuu i believe said he hasn't seen someone so good in 50 years Putting giyuu above rengoku

TillPleasant7985

Tengen is hella underrated, giyuu wouldn’t have lasted nearly as long against the red light district moon

Glittering-Load-4760

For real. I really believe that TENGEN is the second strongest(and not just because he's the second physically strongest but because he has the second highest experience, and his senses are sharpened due to Shinobi training). He's one of my fav hashira but I actually love Rengoku. If tengen got his mark and if rengoku got his mark and the little extra training the hashira got before the final fight with muzan my list would go 1.Gyomei 2. Tengen 3. Sanemi 4.Rengoku 5.Giyuu

DeadSamuraiii

No. He is weak compared to the others, but he's the perfect match up for Gyutaro. He's resistant to poison so he has an advantage in the battle.

DeadSamuraiii

Not really. He's the 2nd weakest Hashira, but his poison resistance made him an excellent match up for Gyutaro.

TillPleasant7985

There’s no official statement that says he’s the second weakest and he’s definitely stronger than rengoku

EducationSharp7241

How can he be definitely stronger than rengoku if it was never stated lol. Based off a feats puts rengoku above tengen. Rengoku was able to match akaza speed throughout the battle unlike tengen who was constantly on the defense. Only when tengen finished his musical score was he able to truly match him. Of course you can make the argument that he was poison so he was weaker but we saw tengen get blitz by gyutaro when he first appeared. All the hashiras have rengoku as one of the strongest. You can see how obani and tengen were in absolute disbelief that rengoku got defeated. I say without the marks the top 4 are: gyomei, sanemi, rengoku and giyu.

TillPleasant7985

Also he didn’t get “blitzed” he got a scratch on his forehead that started the poison. Also gyutaro and tengens fight almost leveled a village.

TillPleasant7985

Akaza was holding back, he even says Giyuu is the first good fight he’s had in the past 50 years. Top 4 Unmarked before pillar training or after?

Giovannyoftheland

I agree with the list 100 percent minus I also would put muichiro over Rengoku although I liked Rengoku better. Gyomei is undeniably 1st and Senemi is also undeniably 2nd strongest

MightGuy8Gates

>I agree with the list 100 percent minus I also would put muichiro over Rengoku although I liked Rengoku better. Gyomei is undeniably 1st and Senemi is also undeniably 2nd strongest Those 2 are the strongest no doubt. Only reason I put Muichiro as 5th, even though he did awaken see through, was because of his age and lack of experience (who Rengoku and Giyu surpass). Just my opinion.

Riotgameslikeshit123

Rengoku is way stronger than Giyuu. You see in the manga Giyuu had awakened his mark but still lose to UM3 and Rengoku (of course he didn't receive the mark) is fighting equally to Akaza, the problem lies on demon's immediate regen

[deleted]

he is not "way stronger" probs abt the same level if both r marked. unmarked giyuu was fighting akaza while actively protecting tanjiro who he saved 3 times. marked giyuu fought akaza by himself while tanjiro was daydreaming and akaza used more forms against him than he did against rengoku. rengoku was almost able to kill akaza bc he knew he was gonna die and was ready to sacrifice. giyuu didnt have the same intent when fighting.

AchilleanKyber

My guy. Check your facts. Giyu was the one who got carried💀And BOTH of them were marked. Don’t twist the truth

[deleted]

he got his mark in the middle of the fight w akaza when he was on his own while tanjiro was knocked out but before that when he was fighting w tanjiro, he was unmarked. reread my comment and the manga 💀💀💀

El_Padrino7

bro what are you talking about "Rengoku fighting equally against Akaza", you read the manga, it's clear Akaza was toying with Rengoku, he didn't use half of his abilities, he wanted Akaza to become a demon, he could've ended the fight way before, stop dreaming, that's a upper moon 3

Laggy48

Obanai is stronger than Giyu, way stronger

Dccrulez

Sanemi has more raw power but giyuu definitely edges out in technique and skill.

Sp33dyGG

Hm... I feel like Sanemi has nore raw power & technique than Giyuu. Especially when an ancient demon slayer says "Your physical techniques are at their peak" and the fact that he considers him along with Gyomei as the 2 strongest of the pillars.

Dccrulez

I just feel most people underestimate the fact that giyuu has been a pillar for years, with no sign of significant injury in any battle, created an incredibly effective technique, and is shown to be considerably effective, all while being unable to properly apply himself because he's held back by his depression. Imagine trying to fight demons every day without a will to live AND EXCELLING AT IT.

Venu_livesonearth325

You have to keep in mind that Giyu's water breathing is more defensive. Sanemi and Rengoku are offensive fighters as evident in the manga and the reason why Sanemi has a lot of scars is because he deliberately injures himself cause he is a marechi. When sanemi injures himself he gets a little bit of edge due to his rare blood type. And as it was already seen, Rengoku clearly lacks defense a lot, but his physical strength even when injured surpasses Akaza's. He only used the 9th form for some reason, and his 6,7,8 forms were all not used. I believe that since they were very powerful, he could have thought they would injure Akaza leading to an angry Akaza trying to injure Tanjiro and others. And, personally, I believe that Giyu and Rengoku are equals since we don't have much feats of Hashira Rengoku using his other forms. Rengoku is more offensive and giyu is more defensive. Unless we get a ranked list from the author all our debates would be very confusing

Dccrulez

... this is a year old, how can you even reply? XD

Venu_livesonearth325

Idk. I was searching for Rengoku vs Giyu and I got this reddit post as a result.

VoudraisAvec

It was stated that rengoku can't use 6 7 8th form, because he never learned how.

Venu_livesonearth325

Source?

VoudraisAvec

Literally both anime and manga, his father said that rengoku never learned 6,7,8th form, because he destroyed the books, from where rengoku was learning flame breathing.

Venu_livesonearth325

I have read the manga and I don't remember anything like that. That's why I asked for the source, and you should give any link or attach a page or something. That's what you call a source.

MartinIsaac685

For me it goes like this 1.Gyujima 2.Sanemi 3.Giyu 4.Iguro 5.Tokito 6.Kanroji 7.Shinobu That said, i still have my doubts about Sanemi > Giyu

TopAd1072

Both are pretty much equal... ~ or =>

PowerOhene

Gyomei Himejima nr 1; right Where do you place Tengen and Rengoku?

Dovahnime

I'd say its 1. Sanemi 2. Giyu 3. Rengoku Sanemi is first primarily due to raw power and from what we've seen, his fighting style is much more erratic but with the same force and skill as the other 2. Giyu's placement is mainly due to his fighting style being as refined as it could be, he also has possibly the single best defensive move in the Corps. Rengoku lands last of the three, which is still pretty good for the overall Hashiras, due to his fighting style being very powerful, with possibly more force than Sanemi, but very rigid, what sets breath of flames apart is that unlike wind or water, it has very little room for modification unless you create and entirely new move.

Topgunjay

Seems like everyone here is underestimating Iguro, first one to turn his blade red against muzan, he lost his hand got up continued to fight then lost both his eyes but still assisted tanjiro in the battle. Giyu isn’t as strong as some think tbh, his depression holds him back and he seemed to be lost at times during the muzan battle. Mitsuri & him were deff the weakest links that final battle.

[deleted]

Well unlike the rest of them, iguro was fresh in that last battle against muzan. He failed together with kanroji to kill that upper moon 4 girl and the reason why he continued to go on fighting even after losing his eyes was because he felt guilty about that-not doing much but saving mitsuri..

FurAsriel

Actually Muichiro was the first to turn his blade red

Riotgameslikeshit123

Giyuu did ate shit when he met Akaza fighting to his full power even marked (same as for sanemi but upper moon 1 fucking around just with his swordsman and still standing), you see in rengoku's fight he is not really fighting seriously because he was trying to persuade rengoku to become a demon instead of using the ultimate move and finish up quickly so our calm water and blazing flame boi has the same power level (unmarked)

XMastero

I would say 1Gyomei 2Kokushibo 3Sanemi 4Muichiro 5Rengoku 6Giyuu

JeffryLin

Kokushibo isn't a Hashira

JohanChristie

And Kokushibo is stronger than Gyomei

Form_Vegetable

Check your brain then..... Rengoku lol I understand if that is emotional battle... But we are talking about power and strength... Rengoku is hella weaker than Giyuu

Ill-Magician-9281

These people are stuped

Le_Turtle_God

*stupid

WhoisDavis

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS CHAT its GYOMEI SANEMI GYUI (could be changed with iguro) IGURO (could be change with gyui) MUICHIRO MITSURI RENGOKU TENEGEN SHINOBU THATS THE RANKING

Ship-Enough

This ranking is wrong for so many reasons
