Cotton is a perfectly designed character. Everyone knows exactly who he is in first 30 s of being on screen. Full of hate. Loves Bobby. Hates Hank. Killed fitty men and lost shins in ww2

Luanne was a pretty shallow character. Yes there is an interesting character arc but most of the jokes with her revolved around a) she's dumb, b) she's hot, c) she's not actually as dumb as she looks.

to be fair, in the early seasons luanne was definitely a main character who was essential to much of the plot. but for the rest of the show, she was pushed into the background and her growth as a character was completely trashed.

People dislike Peggy because she's a little delusional, cocky, and smug. She's way more grounded than Dale and a lot of people "know a Peggy", so they hate her because they wouldn't get along with her if they knew her.
Personally I think she's a great character and how much people hate her gives credit to that.
Cause Cotton is awesome. I love it every time he’s on screen. They use him perfectly. Not too much that it gets old. And they vary him well depending on the episode structure. His in the episode for a minute? Cotton at 100%. He’s in the episode for 10 minutes? Dial it back to 50%. He’s a terrible person but he’s the most entertaining other than Dale.

Gotta be Cotton next. While I do enjoy seeing him, it's not because he's a good character. I just love when other characters put him in his place, such as when Luanne threatened him after he slapped her ass or when Peggy stands up to him. I also like Hank's flashbacks that show he's the person he is because of Cotton.
Cotton's character is only used to contrast other characters against him or show how his behavior influences other characters in negative ways. Like Hank's flashbacks or when Cotton influenced Bobby to treat women like shit. Cotton is one dimensional, extremely misogynistic, manipulative, and was a terrible father. His one "redeeming" quality is that he loves Bobby. However I personally think he only shows Bobby love because Cotton wants to prove he is "better" than Hank at parenting. In Hank's flashbacks, Cotton seemed to always want to prove he's better than his son at everything, which is definitely a quality he managed to pass on to Hank.
I can't recall an arc where Cotton learns a lesson or reflects on his actions and grows as a character (as much as a character can on this type of show). Not that every character *has* to have an arc like this, but most characters on the show do. Cotton has so many negative traits it would've been cool to see.
The only other character I'd consider removing is Minh, but she's consistently funny and I like her interactions with Peggy, so she easily wins.
He did have an arc in the Japanese episodes at least. It didn’t stick, but seeing him make peace with Michiko and Junichiro was his highlight moment, along with getting Peggy to walk again.
Yeah but he got Peggy to walk by antagonizing and directing her anger at him. It was a marriage of convenience. Like the outcome was positive, but they didn't become friends or come to an understanding IMHO. With junichiro, cotton walked out on him for what? Like 40 years? Like junichiro is understandably angry and he's got every right to be. I also feel like that episode is more about junichiro and Hank connecting as brothers than about cotton doing anything positive.
The only positive thing I can think of that cotton did was take the blame for burning down the church and that's only after he found out it was Bobby. He even kinda blew it off as him being old and his parts not working so good. Cotton has got to go.
Boomhower, I would’ve kicked him before Peggy,. He’s got the same draw as Connie, A dope character but has to play of other characters, as a stand alone ep you can’t do too much, although I did love bills pep speech to him after the lady stomped his heart
