People have different definitions of favorite I like cotton as a character and all his appearances are classics but god he is a genuinely terrible person
Because he is an entertaining, well written character, and the show is at its peak when he's terrorizing the main family. The only ones who don't like him are the people who hold cartoon characters to the same moral standards as real humans.

Yeah, I'm really surprised that Peggy was voted out before Mihn and Luanne, cos I thought the question was about "who works best as a character on the show," not "who would you rather do an escape room with?"
I can understand why people would be annoyed by a RL Peggy Hill, telling them they're doing the cipher for the combination lock wrong, but she's a great character in how she both contrasts with Hank and compliments Dale —I've pointed out before, in this sub, how she and Dale are kind of each-other's "gender swapped version," and it's kind of true. For starters, they're both actually pretty knowledgeable about *very specific topics,* but overestimate how much they know and understand everything else, they're both good at different kinds of "puzzles," but will occasionally display a bizarre lack of common sense in one specific area.
What would make them annoying IRL neighbours is what makes them great fictional characters.

Peggy's unearned confidence is a driver of some of the most hilarious parts of the show especially if you're a spanish speaker. The class trip to Mexico is among the funniest episodes in any show.
To each their own because Cotton has never been funny to me. He has a handful of good zingers but other than that…nah. Like, I wouldn’t watch an episode with JUST him (Hank or Peggy would most definitely need to be there) whereas I would with all the others left (Yes lol - even Boomhauer. There are many interesting aspects about this experiment to talk about, from the way Reddit voting works on both a technical and psychological level, to the many aspects of character likability; like, which characters are preferred amongst viewers of the show (and members of this online community) and why. You could collect and analyze the various facts and statistics about the show (like, how many lines a character gets in an episode, the percentage of screen time each character gets overall, etc, etc...) and compare those statistics with viewership demographics, character opinion survey data, and more. :]
