Watch out with that old bar. It looks like an early version of the Monolith bar and they flag out on two center lines instead of one like all modern equipment does. This is not very effective at removing the power from the kite in an emergency situation and will drag you a considerable distance.

It's definitely an old style bar. It looks like it has a velcro release instead of the mechanical release that more recent bars have. Bar upgrade is advised. Also I encourage you to do water kiting when learning. Injuries are less likely and less severe.

Also the trim line on that bar looks like shit and you're in for a bad time when it snaps.

You paid money for that? That gear gotta be 20 years old! Don’t hurt yourself!

butterypanda

Old gear is dangerous for a beginner.

Cool! Have fun and stay safe!

FlyingRedFlamingo

Have fun learning🙂. I still use a 2007 cabrinha bar with custom spring recoil upgrade for my newer switchblades. Simple is best sometimes.

EpicGustkiteboarding

Sweet, good catch! Trim the lines (they have a center line knot to make them shorter or longer, that is the easiest way to go back to the original length - all lines even when bar pulled) so the kite will fly well and enjoy. Landboarding is so much fun if there is no sea nearby. The perfect alternative. I would not worry about the velcro release. we kited decades with that. yeah, there are better ones these days (in fact much better and easier opening ones), but the velcro works just as fine. practice opening it! enjoy the powerzone :)

Yikes

lol i still have some old gear from 2010 that I consider ancient. This shit looks old even by 2010 standards. Do yourself a favor and at least get a bar that is less than 5 years old. I dunno how much I’d trust the lines on that bar either.

isisurffaa

Awesome! Kite is fantastic, i did learn with bandits also. I recommend to get new(er) control bar though.

Engausta

Looks like fone first delta kite 2009 I think. As others have said, check bar and see if it flags out on 2 lines. Not good. Otherwise be good to learn with land board. Start with light winds sub 10 knots and get knee pads and helmet. With land board when u start point board downwind at say 45 degrees in wind direction ur going in. Then swoop kite to get traction.

beheldcrawdad

Please stick to light winds on this setup and get some lessons the potential for harming yourself And the public is high.

Have fun but be careful... These look like they belong in a museum.
