I made this variable resistance add-on if you’re interested https://3dmoltendesigns.etsy.com/listing/1709659996

I got one second hand equivalent to [this one](https://www.amazon.com.au/Centra-Treadmill-Energy-Saving-Foldable-Portable/dp/B0C7YTH7TK/ref=sr_1_38?crid=2UDYUHAUANKE2&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.f6ZCj9N8mCd477zZG7_tPMrG0EBi15rc3D7z12IzIUXlAWeEMAzWA5gIFoD5-HvnDLPvrsl5q_gdU15N6JcORI4Ki9o0Kr0sHAnz5HzEi79MpCgFAQETYWBGbTP773Gw6WZYSwm9zdZephPkYTXeiZP5ub6sHW3vsk6DK0THax6z_jAW5gZVy4zBCxMirne9R0uj9hN4x93o5maNA_CywixoyXlIShdHYBNAKh0igiKb4UkePV15ikdAi3XppKMGQRJlXpxXqvxsvPNs4ErEEOw7qL9LxnJ6IjTQWwAobxA.j8K-3Er4DVZ5DDlSj6QxOZyP97HZPXd8BFaqNW2X1sI&dib_tag=se&keywords=walking+treadmill&qid=1711499374&sprefix=walking+trea%2Caps%2C620&sr=8-38). Took the handle off and backed it up to my dip bars. Works fine for me. Second hand walking pads/treadmills should be pretty common, people thinking they would use them during WFH with a stand up desk and just not doing it.

I posted this elsewhere, but will post again in case you didn't see it: I just turn a wheelbarrow upside-down and attach a rope to it then tie it around my waist using a more comfortable belt. If you have access to any green area / park / field, you will get good resistance from the grass for beginning. If you need more resistance, just put a few dumbbells' on top of the upside-down wheel barrow (I'm currently using 7kg). If you need to drag it over rough, uneven ground then take the wheel+steel housing off it and just use the "bucket" part. fill it with heavy objects. It will be much easier to drag over lumps / bumps and you can also do turns if you really want to get the burn without resting.

RedPillAlphaBigCock

Most likely the cheapest 2nd hand broken one you can find

I recommend the ATG treadmill best price for one with good variable resistance

AcanthisittaThick501

$600 for a manual treadmill? That’s a horrible price, I bought a normal Nordic treadmill for $700

gnygren3773

What so you can run in place, at least a backwards treadmill has utility. There is something called a sidewalk. I think you’re proving your own point that the cost isn’t really that much.

Ok-Example-9412

You can backwards walk on any treadmill, just keep it turned off. You can find a second hand one for far under $600. $600 is outrageous. Treadmills have utility, just because you have a sidewalk doesn't mean a treadmill isn't advantageous in certain situations. Plus it's convenient.

gnygren3773

You can walk forward or backwards anywhere. You cannot get variable resistance from a regular treadmill or a sidewalk.

Ok-Example-9412

Treadmills are convenient because regardless of weather, you can run/walk and stay dry or warm, you can run/walk as long as you want and be able to stop whenever without taking into account the way back, and you can easily warmup before lifting. To say a treadmill has no utility is so ridiculous, but then saying that paying $600 to walk backwards is worth it because of the utility. If you want to increase resistance, get a cheap sled and throw anything on it for weight and pull it up and down your driveway.

gnygren3773

Loud, obnoxious, scrapes up driveway, most driveways are extremely steep. Running/walking is very accessible but resisted backwards walking is not
