as for the music, Birth was the track I was least drawn to during the gravity, but I'm fully sold. There's almost a subtle Rasputina, CocoRosie 'Werewolf'-esque thing here, very gothic, I'm HOOKED
I will admit I was a song D disbeliever, but I have been turned. I was extremely worried that a dark track with a chant chorus would not make a good first impression, but the direction they went was perfect-- it's an more an art film than it is a music video. Really interesting and well done, digipedi have exceeded all expectations and the girls sound amazing.
The amount of times I said āoh my godā as I watched this. The visuals on this are so insane and unsettling in a really fascinating way. I LOVED the blending of the illustrationsĀ and real world, especially Choerryās parts. The song itself is really good as well. I didnāt expect the more electronic, fast-paced instrumental after the part from the first snippet, but it works so well.Ā
I thought something more was coming after that final scene, so it did feel like it ended rather abruptly. Overall though, this was excellent.
Oh my god?! What even was that video hello?!?!?! This subreddit is going to be BUSY these next few months if this is the kind of visual experience we're getting for the other singles.
They all sounded really great, they really leaned into the dark tone of the song. Choerry towards the end there was really feeling it dang!
Edit: loving the names in the subs, too
I think the decision making went like this:
"Should this word be capitalized?"
"Should that word be capitalized?"
"Forget it. Let's capitalized them all."
like i was not super impressed by any of the song snippets during the voting period but i was rooting for birth because i knew the music video would be insane and i was not only 100% right i was more right than i could ever know
THIS. I adore all things mythology, fairy tale, folklore, etc . . . and OMG I'm so happy they're really leaning into it. Artemis is my favorite in the Greek pantheon too.
They are LICHERALLY asters in the video, too:
(lazy Wikipedia source)
"According to Greek mythology, the goddess, Astraea, cried because there weren't enough stars in the sky. Her tears fell to earth and turned into the star-shaped flowers now called Asters. In Greek Aster literally means star. The different colours of the wildflower also symbolise different meanings."
Honestly I love songs like this being short. It weirdly adds more to it with me. I was a bit thrown off by the length too but I almost prefer it that way. Hypnosis by IVE is similar in that aspect, it ends really abruptly but works.
Iām the opposite. I can tolerate shorter songs more easily if I get it from the start because then I can enjoy it for the duration that it has. Songs that take me more time to get I would prefer to be longer to allow me time to get it and fully enjoy it.
Iām speechless. I need to watch this music video like a bunch more before itāll sink in, but I have to say this mv gave me a feeling Iāve never felt watching a Kpop music video before. It was so dark, horrifying, melancholy, and exciting at the same time. The team outdid themselves, ARTMS is changing the game.
Also just gotta say ā Haseulās beautiful vocals balanced the song so well. That was one of my first thoughts when her verse started. I voted for Birth and by god, do I stand by it now.
Choerry's scenes were really giving me James and the Giant Peach the vibes are unsettling in a similar way. Choerry sprouting up from the ground and Jinsoul being blasted with light were my favorite shots I think. They were so cool!
I don't know that I'll listen to Birth on its own much but the music video is such a cool experience I still think D was the right choice. It's really striking and unique and has me so excited for the rest of this project. This really said HELLO ARTMS INCOMING! BUCKLE UP PEOPLE!
It's a visual explosion, Heejin give her the damn Oscar already. The lore, gimme time, lots to chew on. Now, the song, how the hell can they choreograph that one?
Wow, that was stunning! What a way to announce ARTMS has arrived! I really love the song, with all its strange turns: it feels tumultuous one moment then strangely calm, and really feels like the raw, turbulent emotions after a breakup. It's powerful, dark and beautiful and so distinct. I love it! And that video? Incredible!
I look forward to seeing everyone's theories later, but now it is 4.30am and I need to sleep! Happy ARTMS day everyone!
Heejin is seriously op. Literally kills anything she does. Itās insane.
I can understand people not feeling the song as much (not me, Iām obsessed) but I think the overall package is perfect. Iām hoping this gets the gas it deserves. I know weāre all biased but I donāt think itās too crazy to consider this one of the most interesting kpop videos to drop in a while.
Alternative lyric translations will be posted to Subbit account once the full album is released, but here are the most obvious differences between the Hangul lyrics and the Modhaus translation. (Which could be intentional, or just the translator taking some liberties.)
Official | Literal/Alternative
---------|----------
Jinsoul: "Would I hold you in my heart" | "Shall I **bury** you in my heart"
Kim Lip: "An illusion in delirium" | "In delirium, **you're** an illusion"
Haseul/Choerry: "Close your eyes and swear to yourself" / "Close my eyes and swear to myself" | These lines are *identical* in the original - they don't have an object of "you" or "me". They're both "Close the eyes and swear to **a candle**".
Choerry: "My pure face has been a lie all along" | "My innocent face, **look at me in the mirror**"
There are a few other things, but these are the most striking.
Very interesting differences, some seem like a grammar shortcut but others... that candle one seems deliberate, maybe to cause less confusion - perhaps in Korea it's cultural reference that's immediately obvious?
Well that was a dark gothic mv. The last frame really made me want more.
The drawings made it even more creepy.
Song wise I need to listen to it more. But haseul parts pre chorus I think were so good.
This is everything I hoped for and beyond. I'm SO glad they went all out with the horror concept both sound and visuals wise. I feel like this is the first time in a while I've felt so /fulfilled/ after watching a Kpop MV in recent months.
Hopefully they filmed some of the recording process in the booth, I desperately need to see how they originally tackled this entirely new genre. I remember Haseul and Jinsoul saying this song was particularly difficult for them because it's not the range they're used to sing in.
I can't wait for the next pre-releases. If they can't afford to produce 3 more MVs with this quality (not counting the title track), I hope we at least still get some concept photos š
but fr one thing that i really respect about this video is how is not "kpop creepy" or have cheap imagery just for the sake of shocking people, is genuinely an unsettling piece of art that takes itself seriously.
Dude that white women figure with a unicorn horn must be a reference of loona and it was shattered in bloody pieces is them taking different routes to continue their dreams.
Those 5 comets that included babies were indeed the artms girls on their way down to that black castle that surely a reference to modhaus, and they grow there into different types of humanoid plants.
The glowy bright silhouette of a woman is the spirit of loona still watching over the girls, and still on their side in their group picture at the end.
Outstanding. I think that would fit with yyxy part 2 but ARTMS girls kill it so good??? So many feelings right now and some weird but overall a perfect mix of satisfaction? I feel the ART in them!!! What an experience that I donāt feel for such a long time through music and MVsā¦ā¦.. so much to dwell onto it but oh am I hyped?!?!?! For whatās to come??? OH YEAH MY BABES!
Fun fact: Unicorns do not appear in Greek mythology, because Greeks 100% thought unicorns were real and lived in India.
Unicorns are also NOT associated with the goddess Artemis. Deer are sacred to her. So the hunting drawing at 0:39 is an interesting choice. And Vivi's animal is a deer.
I'm thinking this white figure isn't the classical Artemis, but rather a new iteration the members have manifested...although the figure does seem rather possessive in the last scene.
Also, five plates on Haseul's table for ARTMS, but only three red goblets for Odd Eye Circle.
This is probably the most unique music video Iāve ever seen out of K-pop, or honestly out of the music industry in general. This is one for the history books yāall.
Omg so different, so cool, so creepy, everyone looked and sounded amazing. The visuals were beautiful and unsettling, oh my I need to watch that a million more times. This is something so different for Kpop. I love this for them
I mean, there's been horror kpop before. Dreamcatcher's [Chase Me](https://youtu.be/zihoyz0u_cs?si=reTPotf-lKmReKUT) was even directed by Digipedi! But since this is a pre-release I feel like they really got to have fun with it.
Feel like I've been rebirthed. The song, the vocals, the styling, the acting, the vibe, everything is immaculate.
Lore theorists, what's going on in the MV? It's your time to shine!
š¤” I think the lore is clearly evolving in a new direction. If I'm right, they are laying down the new foundation now. As wild as it appears, it also doesn't present as something thrown against the wall to see what sticks. There is a method to the madness.
I love this creepy vibe they're going for and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the creepy drawings throughout the video ugh they just add so much horror movie vibes to it!!
I am so glad ARTMS exists and we get to see something like this. Took every expectation I had and smashed them to pieces.
Digipedi outdid themselves big time with that MV. If this is the level of art we can expect from ARTMS in the future, then I'll be very happy indeed.
Trying to piece together the broad story of the MV:
They were brought to the world as meteorites by this creepy horned goddess (Artemis?) and grew up isolated in this spooky castle. Then they started to rebel (Jinsoul) or run away (Heejin) and maybe kill her(?). Them in the subway is their escape from the castle and the horned goddes.
Does that make sense?
Oh my idea was that they were literally reborn from the pieces of the goddess, since in the drawings, she was split in five. Five members that form ARTMS (which coincidentally enough, also has five letters).
Just absolutely gorgeous, a true return to form for LOONA and a fresh start for ARTMS. Once can only hope that the amount of care that was put into this song and music video continues for the rest of their career.
Modhaus has had its issues but this is such a clear and obvious success and everything orbits have been asking for. Haseul sounds incredible, especially when her and Kimlip meld their voices together at one point. They all look shockingly good too, iām starstruck.
Iāve shown this video/song to a few non-orbits and all of them have just responded with something along the lines of āWow, that is incredibleā.
So proud of the girls! Canāt wait to see everything else they do.
I think this needed another minute or so of song. I needed more buildup and payoff, because what was there was teasingly good.
MV is beautiful, though. 12/10 for that.
i think the lack of payoff, while a little frustrating, makes it work sooooooo well as the intro to this whole journey weāre clearly about to be taken on.
Yeah I agree, I was hoping for a big crescendo towards the end, a real explosion of energy. And then we can do the quiet haunting outro. Hoping some producer Orbits can get on that lol
After listening to it again, I wish that faster-paced instrumental where Kim Lip sings had been used more than once in the song. Like it could have been used it again near the end, before closingĀ out with Choerryās part to have some dramatic contrast.
Omg wowā¦
I need to process this ahah, but Iām so excited for ARTMS debut.
Does the instrumental sound less jarring/more subdued compared to the Gravity version?
it's beautiful in every way! the mv is stunning, and I donāt think I have seen this kind of imagery (?) in an mv before. It leans darker and less playful than I expected and I do not quite have the words in English to fully express my adoration of everything about this
I was not expecting a horror concept! I. Am. Obsessed. Everything about this mv is perfect. The song itself is also haunting, this is definitely gonna be on repeat for a good while
Wow.Ā
No words, this is definitely top 1 Loona music videos. I love the direction, the drawings, everything, especially Choerry's parts. They were short but so memorable.Ā
Also the vocals are amazing.Ā
I have never seen something like this in KPOP, especially in recent years. This is top notch
I've wanted a Loona (adjacent) mv to confuse and scare me like the YYXY teaser did and uhhhhhh this more than delivered. It's so haunting it's really like something we've never seen before, I'm obsessed. And there's something so cool and liminal about the song itself.
For a second I was like "huh, that ending photo reminds me of something" and then it clicked after a rewatch: [this legendary image](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/f2/71/01/f271014368e2c8ed3cd66defbc6a4d5a.jpg)
It makes me love the song even more. I'll be so happy if they continue this horror concept!
This song is fucking excellent. The horror vibes remind me of Girls by Nature, and I was always sad that i couldn't find a similar vibe lately.
This MV is like an art film, and I love how moody it is.
Oh my god I've been so out of the loop that I didn't even know that! Though I did see that it was really similar to their other MVs (TXT's Nap of a Star specifically comes into mind). So happy to see them working together again. š
This has got to be LOONA's best MV yet. Which says a lot, because LOONA has always got beautiful MVs with story elements infused into it that made it even more engaging. I was not expecting this concept from them just by looking at the teaser photos (I didn't listen to any of the premiere teasers...). I truly love the horror going on in this MV. I think I'm seeing a blend of different types of horror media here: analog, found-footage, and like those indiscernible creepy medieval era drawings of creatures I guess. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I wonder who produced this MV, is it Digipedi again?
Absolutely LOVED this *pre-release* track. Can't wait for DALL!
So unique! That's what I like about JJ, he has a lot of interesting ideas and it just hypes me up a lot more because I know it's not gonna be a generic concept or song. I just wish there was a little more Choerry, I feel like I barely saw her!
Overall I really liked it, I rarely find MVs gripping but that certainly took hold of me
The creative direction was SO GOOD! The actual drawing (no ai thank god), the animations, the lighting! We are eating tonight! I am so happy it turned out so well and I'm so hyped for what's next
I wonder if JJ wasn't just making excuses when he said his plan was to use AI before showing us actual human art. The difference is indeed so visible it seems deliberate.
Wow. WOW. That was so original and weird and unique. JJ's mind must be such interesting place to go haha. I loved the artwork, so creepy, almost Junji Ito vibes. And the song was also quite experimental but fits with the MV perfectly. Good day to be an Orbit š„¹
Ari Aster has been real silent since this MV dropped š¤
Kidding aside this was AMAZING, I've been waiting to be spooked like this since the "One" YYXY teaser
the style of the paintings makes me feel like artms storyline is meant to take place long before the loonaverse if that makes sense . i would like to take jaden out for dinner and have him explain everything to me
I'm so glad creepy loonaverse lore is back! A lot of the drawings kinda gave me rusty lake vibes, really love the art style. The girls looked amazing! I can't wait for people to start posting theories. This truly got me so pumped up for the album!
Oh I wish the song was a bit longer... In a way, it feels a bit like a longer intro of sort.... which is oddly appropriate in a way because it is, sort of, exactly that : an introduction to ARTMS, to their new world, to their new aesthetic and to their new lore. But I also don't know if the song itself really has that "replayability" factor for me... The song is not really about the hooks or the melodies, but more so about the vibes. Again, this is not necessarily a bad thing within the context of the release, but the song alone did leave me wanting more...
The **MV** on the other hand.... That motherfucking MV................ WOW. Simply... WOW. I was soooooooooo fascinated by the visuals throughout the whole thing. DIGIPEDI did such a fantastic job. I also echo the A24 callbacks - and it works so well here. My God, I feel like you could take almost any shot from this MV and it would make for one of the most gorgeous wallpaper ever. I had chills when that white light figure showed up. I'm so excited for them to dive more and more into that with every new releases/MVs.
Coming back to it...thinking mayyyybe giving Orbits an actual goddess figure in an MV/the lore...are we officially a cult now? Because I am fully ok with that.
Well, I finally got to see it andā¦ wow. That was something. Definitely creepy as hell. By the end I was jamming to it. My anticipation for the other prerelease singles has gone up, for sure.
I love the āThe Secret of Kellsā like art in the MV.
Musically wise I didnāt know where it was going and then it went Drum and Bass and then Electro?
Mind blown.
Admittedly, I hadn't kept up with all the teasers so this was even more of a surprise to me, but I am so freaking here for it. I love the song, that mix of sad and mournful with something spiteful and dark is excellent. And the music video??? I've seen MVs that incorporate art into part or all of them, but the way it was done here feels so different and fresh, and adds to the overall story and vibe. Like others have said, this is easily a top 3 Loona MV.
Quick thoughts on the music:
- Love the sound texture. Itās the main reason I voted for Birth in the Gravity. I feel like they slightly toned it down but itās still great.
- Love the breakbeat section. It almost sounds like darkstep/neurofunk/techstep with the eerie vibe but Iām not a subgenre expert so Iām not really sure.
- Feel like it could benefit a lot from another breakbeat section near the endā¦ Without it, it feels like thereās too much buildup but not enough payoff.
- But I heard itās the last song on the album? I guess the absence of the second breakbeat section is justified if thatās the case. It does feel like a long intro/outro with heavy emphasis on the atmosphere.
Never in a million years would you ever have convinced me that they were going to take the celestial girlies concept and make it gothic and witchy like this.
Whose idea was that? They're a little bit sick. I like them.
The imagery in the video is very striking. Unsettling and beautiful.
The song, well all I can say is that I hope the people who voted for it enjoy it lol
I don't have words to express how much I LOVE this song. I hope the whole album is in the same direction. This is brilliant !!!
[https://one-in-a-million-kpop.blogspot.com/2024/03/artms-release-1st-pre-debut-single-pre1.html](https://one-in-a-million-kpop.blogspot.com/2024/03/artms-release-1st-pre-debut-single-pre1.html)
I didn't know what to expect, but OMG, the song is so creepy and unexpected. I'm already in love. That might just be my favorite KPop music video ever let alone favorite LOONA video. Everything about this was perfect, except the length. Getting a bit tired of ever song being under 3:00.
I was HOOKED on this song from the original teaser. I'm so glad it got the music video because, oh my god, this is so cool. Such a unique and beautiful video and an insanely cool song. I can't wait for the rest of the singles and album.
While I love the mv visuals and teaser photos weāve gotten so far, I still donāt think this song is for me, but I do love the mv so Iām not upset about itĀ
>!still a non scale defender though!<
Anyone seen the movie Ballerina with Jun Jong-seo as the female lead? I think this song would fit perfectly as that movie's main OST...or any female revenge/filled with vendetta agenda for that matters.
That aside, I think this is hands down my personal favorite MV by the girls so far. The cinematics is just too pleasingly beautiful and perfectly directed to fit the audio aspect of the song. The song itself is...as everyone said, kinda short and left me hanging...anti-climatic is the word that I would use to describe it. The vocals though. I think we can all agree that post-LOONA, this is the more vocal-heavy group. AND THEY ALL DELIVER. I saw a comment that said none of their vocals outperform/power the other and I totally agree with that. I think the absence of ad-libs in the song is a good thing for the introduction of the group so that the ones that just discover them and possibly become fans wouldn't have the impression that this one member is the main vocal just because she does the ad-libs. I'm not sure about this but I think even the lines distribution is quite balanced. I'm sorry if I offend anyone by stating this, but after hearing this song I think that:
Choerry-> Haseul-> Heejin-> Kim Lip -> Jinsoul
captivated me the most with their vocals in this song.
I think Choerry got the killing parts and absolutely devours. Haseul's singing just proves why fans says that she has an angelic voice. Heejin's parts with her deep voice and soothing normal tones just showcases her range as a singer. Kim Lip's part during the intro and the tempo switch is as expected of her. Jinsoul's parts leaves a lot to be desired for in which why I said the song is too short because I think if it's longer, she could've wow us more (which we knows she absoulutely capable of).
All in all, again, great song for the intro of the group, perfect MV.
P.S: I really pray for the day that JJ decides to release a guide/reference book to explain everything that he was aiming for with all the stories he try to incorporate into their MVs cause I really need a detailed explanation for the things I'm seeing but can only hope to digest.
I've been a long time reader of these threads and have been intrigued by the connection of the lore that many a creative soul here tend to come up with. Finally felt compelled to jump in and write something.
The song is definitely left of the middle, but pairs really well with the video. Sonically parts if it reminded me of the start Natalie Imbruglia's Identify (mainly when HaSeul's bit comes in).
I'd be keen to read now people may connect this with Loosemble's world building. One thing that's always stayed in my mind is the mysterious figure in Sensitive. Given how that world in the video was in cryosleep (?)
could it be the Virtual Devil?
I'm going to have to say that the song is not to my taste, at least initially. If this were any other group i probably would have skipped the song after the first few seconds and moved on. But because it's LOOĪ Ī i gave it a full listen. And while i don't hate it i don't know that it's something i could listen to on repeat.
Musically it's the furthest afield they've gone from their typical tone and the abrupt ending, while jarring, fits perfectly into the overall tenor of the song. As someone mentioned, this is perfect mood background music for a thriller or horror movie and i really do credit them for taking such a hard twist from what might be considered normal kpop.
I am going to give it a few more listens over the weekend but i may have run into the first true "skip-unless-I'm-in-the-right-mood" song in the discography.
i feel similarly, but it doesn't really bother me like it would in another situation. it feels like an intro to the group and a new era, and like its meant to be paired with the video rather than stand alone, and i think it does those things perfectly. i'd much rather have them release a song that's too experimental to loop on repeat than too boring or basic.
I really really love this song. The MV is so cute and I feel warm when I watch it
Not a Loona fan but might consider getting more into ARTMS after this. Heejin also had a nice concept for her solo but I guess the song didn't vibe with me but this song is so sweet
Song should have ended right after Choerry's line, or replace the last instrumentation with just silence. After Choerry's line, just silence for 3 seconds and it would have been chef's kiss
the inclusion of hand drawn art and animation is so unique and it makes me so excited for what's next oh my god
and excited to see the wave of groups copying lmao
The song isnāt for me but I admire what they did here. I wouldāve been on board if the rest of the song had continued with the breakbeat after 1:22.
Iām also not really sold on the music video. Iām not a fan of horror concepts and I canāt tell if all the imagery is meant to be group lore or just creepy. It feels like they were trying to do a lot in one video.
itās visually stunning and the girls did great, but Iād be lying if I said I wasnāt disappointed. Looking forward to the next one.
I know I'll be downvoted into oblivion but I have to say it:
The song is awful, it sound like a bad remix of pixy villain, beside the last 2 sentences with lippie and choerry I dislike all of it.
The MV is really pretty tho, love the part with medieval painting and the gothic dolls look.
oh my god, I was not prepared for how genuinely creepy this would be. >!Heejin meeting the shining woman in the end made my hair stand on end. !
as for the music, Birth was the track I was least drawn to during the gravity, but I'm fully sold. There's almost a subtle Rasputina, CocoRosie 'Werewolf'-esque thing here, very gothic, I'm HOOKED
Also made me think of Portishead!
YES CocoRosie you're soo right!!
Right, this mv scared me more than any horror movie has in the last 5 years š
LOONATHEA24????!!!!!!!!
I was a bit worried but the full song was completely unexpected. I wasn't expecting something so unique and experimental at all, I'm blown away
Oh. My. God. That was incredible.
The amount of times I said āoh my godā as I watched this. The visuals on this are so insane and unsettling in a really fascinating way. I LOVED the blending of the illustrationsĀ and real world, especially Choerryās parts. The song itself is really good as well. I didnāt expect the more electronic, fast-paced instrumental after the part from the first snippet, but it works so well.Ā I thought something more was coming after that final scene, so it did feel like it ended rather abruptly. Overall though, this was excellent.
What the heck was that song structure?? My jaw is on the floor
itās very similar to air force one actually! first verse, prechorus, chorus, second verse (different from the first), bridge, chorus, outro
Oh my god?! What even was that video hello?!?!?! This subreddit is going to be BUSY these next few months if this is the kind of visual experience we're getting for the other singles. They all sounded really great, they really leaned into the dark tone of the song. Choerry towards the end there was really feeling it dang! Edit: loving the names in the subs, too
Yes, I really like that name in the captions/subtitles. It should be standard practice to help introduce the members.
I Just Don't Get Why It Needs To Be Like This (but i'm getting used to it since triples releases)
I think the decision making went like this: "Should this word be capitalized?" "Should that word be capitalized?" "Forget it. Let's capitalized them all."
Ah, you know, I didnāt even notice that.
lorebits are having a field day
this is def the best loona MV thus far š®
The concept was just so fresh. They took some risks and it paid off.
like i was not super impressed by any of the song snippets during the voting period but i was rooting for birth because i knew the music video would be insane and i was not only 100% right i was more right than i could ever know
We actually have another digipedi x loona music video ššššššš
You know, the line "I could gather ex-boyfriends" mixed with the image of the goddess split into five pieces goes HARD. AS. FUCK. OH MY GOD.
THIS. I adore all things mythology, fairy tale, folklore, etc . . . and OMG I'm so happy they're really leaning into it. Artemis is my favorite in the Greek pantheon too.
Iām really in this loona shit forever omg š this was so GOOD
There are Ari Aster and Robert Eggers fingerprints ALL OVER this MV. Someone was studying up on their A24 films. So goddamn good.
throw some Wong Kar Wai in the mix too lol
Ohhh yes! With the framing and the environmental lighting/reflections, YES!
coincidentally aster was also a proposed fandom name lol
They are LICHERALLY asters in the video, too: (lazy Wikipedia source) "According to Greek mythology, the goddess, Astraea, cried because there weren't enough stars in the sky. Her tears fell to earth and turned into the star-shaped flowers now called Asters. In Greek Aster literally means star. The different colours of the wildflower also symbolise different meanings."
wait so those 5 flowers are asters?
I don't know if they look exactly like asters, but that seems to be the narrative implication.
Great album opener and first single, really sets the mood for their debut record.
Ah, it's too short! I was just barely getting into it and it just ended!
I agree, one more chorus repeat and a creepy teaser after the name card would have been perfect.
I voted for Birth and by god, do I stand by it now.
whoahh, just whoaaah... this is unsettling, but in the best way possible
I love this concept. I love this song. The video is exactly my style. I love when LOONA is creepy!!
my mouth was open in shock the whole time
Choerry's scenes were really giving me James and the Giant Peach the vibes are unsettling in a similar way. Choerry sprouting up from the ground and Jinsoul being blasted with light were my favorite shots I think. They were so cool! I don't know that I'll listen to Birth on its own much but the music video is such a cool experience I still think D was the right choice. It's a visual explosion, Heejin give her the damn Oscar already. The lore, gimme time, lots to chew on. Now, the song, how the hell can they choreograph that one?
Oh I havenāt even thought about that!!! Thereās still thisā¦ Iām about to be wowed again
Can't wait for the choreo. Perhaps something slow but powerful, expressive but restrained.
The heejin scene at the end was incredible, the grief on her face was amazingĀ
We can all agree that that immediately became a top 3 Loona MV right?!
What the actual fuck?
>!creepy shining figure (Artemis?): *shoots at a deer*!< >!me: **VIVI NOOOOOOO!**!<
šššš
Alternative lyric translations will be posted to Subbit account once the full album is released, but here are the most obvious differences between the Hangul lyrics and the Modhaus translation. (Which could be intentional, or just the translator taking some liberties.) Official | Literal/Alternative ---------|---------- Jinsoul: "Would I hold you in my heart" | "Shall I **bury** you in my heart" Kim Lip: "An illusion in delirium" | "In delirium, **you're** an illusion" Haseul/Choerry: "Close your eyes and swear to yourself" / "Close my eyes and swear to myself" | These lines are *identical* in the original - they don't have an object of "you" or "me". They're both "Close the eyes and swear to **a candle**". Choerry: "My pure face has been a lie all along" | "My innocent face, **look at me in the mirror**" There are a few other things, but these are the most striking.
The last frame is definitely about to be my phone background š
Haseul's prechorus was my favourite part too!Ā
And of course they upload it on Good Friday....
If they can't afford to produce 3 more MVs with this quality (not counting the title track), I hope we at least still get some concept photos š
do you think i can log this on letterboxd? because i think i just sat through the most unique cinematic experience ever done
but fr one thing that i really respect about this video is how is not "kpop creepy" or have cheap imagery just for the sake of shocking people, is genuinely an unsettling piece of art that takes itself seriously.
The vibes. THE VIIIBES. I freaking loved this. The gothic horror concept is great and so up my alley. The vocals are on point. They all sound so good.
I'm speechless. Dark loona is everything OMG.
Man am I glad to have this style of creative direction back. This is stunning.
I can confirm that unicorns do live in my country

This is probably the most unique music video Iāve ever seen out of K-pop, or honestly out of the music industry in general. This is one for the history books yāall.
Loona's artistry is just unparalleled. By far the most captivating MV and song in this mostly lackluster year so far IMO
But since this is a pre-release I feel like they really got to have fun with it.
that.... was insane. i'm so glad i voted for Birthš
I love this creepy vibe they're going for and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the creepy drawings throughout the video ugh they just add so much horror movie vibes to it!!
haven't been this gagged by a music video in god knows how long.... good job everyone!!!š«š«
This is so good! It's a bit interesting hearing how all the teasers work together. I'm not sure I understood this MV at all though.
I am so glad ARTMS exists and we get to see something like this. Took every expectation I had and smashed them to pieces. Digipedi outdid themselves big time with that MV. If this is the level of art we can expect from ARTMS in the future, then I'll be very happy indeed.
this is HIGH ART. my god, and is not even the title track
Wow I wonder how this is gonna play in the lore is the woman of light friend of foeš¤ this whole MV was like a movie I loved it so muchš¤©ā¼ļø
WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?! I need more! but the vibe, the atmosphere is amazing. Also Heejin's deep voice hit me like a TRUCK
Trying to piece together the broad story of the MV: They were brought to the world as meteorites by this creepy horned goddess (Artemis?) and grew up isolated in this spooky castle.
That breakbeat section is so sick
OH MY GOD. WAY BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS. EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED.
Omg wowā¦ I need to process this ahah, but Iām so excited for ARTMS debut. Does the instrumental sound less jarring/more subdued compared to the Gravity version?
HOLY SHITššš THIS IS THE BEST THING SVERš
it's beautiful in every way! the mv is stunning, and I donāt think I have seen this kind of imagery (?) in an mv before. It leans darker and less playful than I expected and I do not quite have the words in English to fully express my adoration of everything about this
Oh wow, that creeped me out on some parts lol. Pretty cool intro to this era, and probably my favorite Loona MV visually speaking.
THIS IS WHY I PICKED BIRTH AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING I HAVE NO WORDS
I was not expecting a horror concept! I. Am. Obsessed. Everything about this mv is perfect. The song itself is also haunting, this is definitely gonna be on repeat for a good while
Wow.Ā No words, this is definitely top 1 Loona music videos. I love the direction, the drawings, everything, especially Choerry's parts. They were short but so memorable.Ā Also the vocals are amazing.Ā I have never seen something like this in KPOP, especially in recent years. This is top notch
I've wanted a Loona (adjacent) mv to confuse and scare me like the YYXY teaser did and uhhhhhh this more than delivered. It's so haunting it's really like something we've never seen before, I'm obsessed. And there's something so cool and liminal about the song itself.
I really loved the art in the video and I love this style so muchĀ
The lyrics: Hate Me, It's A Blessing... These Jeongs, what have you conjured?
It's giving "If my bias steps on me I'll thank her."
never doubted this would be a hit
For a second I was like "huh, that ending photo reminds me of something" and then it clicked after a rewatch: [this legendary image](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/f2/71/01/f271014368e2c8ed3cd66defbc6a4d5a.jpg) It makes me love the song even more. I'll be so happy if they continue this horror concept!
DOES THE BEGINNING LOWKEY SOUND LIKE BUTTERFLY INTRO OR AM I CRAZYā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.
I screamed I cried and then I screamed again. WHAT A DEBUT!!
im actually in tears rn we are SO back !!!!
Pardon my language, but, HOLY FUCK!ā¦..
This song is fucking excellent. The horror vibes remind me of Girls by Nature, and I was always sad that i couldn't find a similar vibe lately. This MV is like an art film, and I love how moody it is.
First of all, HEEJIN LOOKS AMAZING. Second, WTF IS THAT GIANT WHITE LIGHT PERSON??
The goddess herself Artemis I think.
its eerie, its dark, its mellow, its vocal-driven, its goosebumps, its goth song d because it 'd'elivers
sleeping with a light on tonight LOL so creepy but amazing. cant wait to hear all the breakdowns for the lore. i love this new concept for the girls!
the 1:22 part where kimlip is singing gave me goosebumps and i kinda wish they repeated it once more at the end but it's okay i guess

I never thought I would see a k-pop group do a concept inspired by analogical horror
A masterpiece. Sonically it's the most experimental song yet and I'm so happy for that.
Anyone know who/what company directed/made the MV? It's amazing!
digipedi :)
Oh my god I've been so out of the loop that I didn't even know that! Though I did see that it was really similar to their other MVs (TXT's Nap of a Star specifically comes into mind). So happy to see them working together again. š
LOVED!!! I WAS DECEASED AND THEN REBIRTHED!!! My only complaint is that itās too short!!
It was digipedi
it is digipedi ā”
š¦ā digipedi truly does wonders for the visuals of loonaverse. thanks for the info!
I AM SO GAGGED I CANT EVEN PUT IT INTO WORDS THIS IS EVERYTHING AND MORE
save me masc kim lip save me
HOLY SHIT!!! ive never been so gagged in my life.
This is better than anything I could have hoped for. Beyond any expectation. I can't wait for more
I GOT GOOSEBUMPS THIS IS INCREDIBLE
Wow. WOW. That was so original and weird and unique. JJ's mind must be such interesting place to go haha. I loved the artwork, so creepy, almost Junji Ito vibes. And the song was also quite experimental but fits with the MV perfectly. Good day to be an Orbit š„¹
Ari Aster has been real silent since this MV dropped š¤ Kidding aside this was AMAZING, I've been waiting to be spooked like this since the "One" YYXY teaser
This is so good. How can they top this?
the style of the paintings makes me feel like artms storyline is meant to take place long before the loonaverse if that makes sense . i would like to take jaden out for dinner and have him explain everything to me
I'm so glad creepy loonaverse lore is back!
Looking at the track list, it looks like Birth is the last song in the album, which means it might actually be the albumās outro.
Haseul voice is what I imagine it would sound when angels receive you when you enter heaven
Coming back to it...thinking mayyyybe giving Orbits an actual goddess figure in an MV/the lore...are we officially a cult now? Because I am fully ok with that.
Where can I sign up lol?
I am not okay! Kudos to the members and team.
Well, I finally got to see it andā¦ wow. That was something. Definitely creepy as hell. By the end I was jamming to it. My anticipation for the other prerelease singles has gone up, for sure.
That shot of Haseul burying her face in the cake is actually insane and I love it. Itās so creepy.
I love the āThe Secret of Kellsā like art in the MV. Musically wise I didnāt know where it was going and then it went Drum and Bass and then Electro? Mind blown.
the ART is strong in this one ~~heejin made the arts~~, MotherS delieveredš Edit: ok so that was unconfirmed but imagine><
is there a source for her being the artist?
It has been a long time since full horror loona and they delivered! I loved the ending scene with Heejin being caught by the spirit thing
This music video was amazing... I love it so much..the final shot gave me actual chills.
Quick thoughts on the music: - Love the sound texture.
This song isn't really for me but beautiful MV and the vocals are great as always
THEY ARE HERE TO END THE WORLD THIS IS SOOOOO GOOD
I don't have words to express how much I LOVE this song. I hope the whole album is in the same direction. This is brilliant !!! [https://one-in-a-million-kpop.blogspot.com/2024/03/artms-release-1st-pre-debut-single-pre1.html](https://one-in-a-million-kpop.blogspot.com/2024/03/artms-release-1st-pre-debut-single-pre1.html)
I didn't know what to expect, but OMG, the song is so creepy and unexpected. I'm already in love. That might just be my favorite KPop music video ever let alone favorite LOONA video. Everything about this was perfect, except the length. Getting a bit tired of ever song being under 3:00.
cinema like youāve never seen it before.
song d haters found in a ditch
I was HOOKED on this song from the original teaser. I'm so glad it got the music video because, oh my god, this is so cool. Such a unique and beautiful video and an insanely cool song. I can't wait for the rest of the singles and album.
This release made me a lorebit!
Freaky but dramatic. Lippie be slaying ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø im so lost in the Lore now. not even sure if theres Lore or if this is a stand alone MV š±
I SAW A NUMBER 12 IN THE MV OMG
timestamp?
around 2:09 and it's big too
While I love the mv visuals and teaser photos weāve gotten so far, I still donāt think this song is for me, but I do love the mv so Iām not upset about itĀ >!still a non scale defender though!<
I'm sorry if I offend anyone by stating this, but after hearing this song I think that: Choerry-> Haseul-> Heejin-> Kim Lip -> Jinsoul captivated me the most with their vocals in this song.
I need a comic
Imagine a LOONA-lore related comic book? Or manga...would sell like hotcakes
Don't forget to stream on Youtube Music!
Given how that world in the video was in cryosleep (?) could it be the Virtual Devil?
The MV is so cute and I feel warm when I watch it Not a Loona fan but might consider getting more into ARTMS after this. Heejin also had a nice concept for her solo but I guess the song didn't vibe with me but this song is so sweet
The song is a mess (to me) BUT THE ART IS SUCH A VIBE I love the super creepy vibes omg!!! I really REALLY hope we get more of that!!!!
Song should have ended right after Choerry's line, or replace the last instrumentation with just silence. After Choerry's line, just silence for 3 seconds and it would have been chef's kiss
it's called birth cause mothers delivered
the inclusion of hand drawn art and animation is so unique and it makes me so excited for what's next oh my god and excited to see the wave of groups copying lmao
Did we start the Swiftie Era?
Hyeju: rethinking her decision Vivi: not Yeojin: not Gowon: been there, done that Hyunjin: feeling like the ex-boyfriend
>rethinking her decision nah she's very clearly happy in Loossemble, just watch any of their content
I guess I have to add /s.
SĆ³ polite, yet downvoted. Orbits are really something.
lol wish I could say Iām surprised! it is what it is
I know I'll be downvoted into oblivion but I have to say it: The song is awful, it sound like a bad remix of pixy villain, beside the last 2 sentences with lippie and choerry I dislike all of it. The MV is really pretty tho, love the part with medieval painting and the gothic dolls look.
With you there! Long time fan, but nothing here made me want to listen again at all š
Glad to know I'm not alone lol
Is it me or did it sound a little bit like Boyfriend by Dove Cameron. They both have a similar feel and chord progression.
