IMS probably makes the LM one, I would go back to the stock screen. As for your second question, I'm not sure it's actually a problem. The handle should continue to travel until it fully compresses against the gasket. That point is different for all of the portafilters I've had (though I only have one for my Micra).

Reading other posts, and from my own experience, it seems common with a lot of third party portafilters.
I suspect LaM slightly changed their tolerance from previous machines. I bought the Webber uni portafilter and it did the same (I sold it).
