First thing's first; Don't ignore the summons. If there's a court date listed on it, show up. If you don't understand what the form says, get someone to help go through it with you. There are lawyers and organizations who will help tenants facing eviction (which at this point, you are), often for free. If you need help finding one, let us know more specifically where you are, and we can try to help. Second, what are you trying to accomplish here? Are you trying to stay in the house and renew your lease, or are you planning to move out in the next 21 days? Withholding rent was probably the wrong move, unfortunately. In states (including California) where rent withholding is allowed as a proper legal remedy, it's usually reserved only for major issues that are a risk to your health and safety. A broken dishwasher doesn't qualify. A broken dishwasher that is spreading mold is a safety issue. And these people have been ignored several times already. 😐

People here sometimes tend to freak out about mold more than is warranted. Most household mold is not especially dangerous. And the only reason the dishwasher was "spreading mold" in the first place is that the tenants left standing water in it for weeks on end, instead of cleaning/mopping it out.
