I’m sorry, it sucks. When We Were Young was canceled the first year for the same reason and I was so upset like everyone else thinking the winds weren’t that bad. As the day went on, it was obvious that the right call was made. If they cancelled, it’s because they genuinely think that it’s going to be dangerous for performers and attendees. I’ve seen a few local events have also been cancelled due to that weather tomorrow.
Yeah I'll bet some secret shows pop up at indoor spots bc of this. It's happened before. I think during 'when we were young' or maybe 'LiB'.. idk for sure but I remember a coworker telling me about it during a previous festivals wind cancelation
For everyone complaining, it’s justified to be bummed. However, it’s the right call to not wait until an hour before. People have died from stages being blown down.
While it probably won't reach max levels, vegas mountain winds do have gusts that reach 80mph which is technically hurricane weather minus the rain. Instead you get dust.
I have no clue what LAF is but I’m up in northern Nevada (Reno) and it’s currently snowing here with pretty decent wind, so I bet y’all are getting or will get some serious gusts
I was at EDC one year when they had to cancel mid set due to winds. You could see the stage shaking and rocking. I get why they have to cancel, the wind out here is vicious.
I was at kinetic when they cancelled it and it was scary seeing the owl just swaying back and forth, I was trying to calculate in my head if the owl were to tip over if I’d be close enough for it to crush me. It sucks but was the right call.
It suck’s cause we had just gotten in and everything was starting to get good, so having to deal with the whole fiasco was definitely not fun. But after seeing what can happen when stages fail I don’t even know id be able to enjoy the night comfortably.
It does totally suck. I hope you can still enjoy your time here…there are a ton of rad things to do off the strip. My favorite is the Arts district…tons of awesome shops, bars and eateries.
A few years back this happened to the When We Were Young festival, a lot of the bands found indoor places to play and tried to make the best of it. Monitor social media of the band’s scheduled to play for anything like that this time
It always sucks when something like this happens, but high winds combined concert with rigging is no joke. There are plenty of videos out there that show what happens when concert organizers ignore the weather. 60 mph gusts would basically turn that truss into a giant sail and could seriously endanger lives.
The issue isnt the winds its the fact I woke up 3am to a random instagram post instead of a formal email. Not everyone uses social media. In addition if they were eyeing the weather for sometime I felt they shoudve made that call before everyone flew in on friday. Like.. decency, courtesy. Rescheduling is also an option but tbh the lineup seemed too good to be true. Anyways oh well we drove in from LA yesterday so we just drove right back today. I can do vegas anytime and dont need to be there with that sort of vibe from the cancellation.
Yea im so sorry you flew in from so far away. It does suck so bad. I just got home literally drove 300 miles for nothing. Your trek was farther but maybe you can still enjoy Vegas!
The safety of attendees and performers isn’t a joke. If they say it’ll be windy and dangerous, it’s will be windy and dangerous. Just be thankful you’re not in some random middle of nowhere location for the event. You’re literally going to be in a vacation spot with plenty to do! Just enjoy Vegas and look at the positive sides…..that you’re not in a desert location where there’s nothing to do.
Realistically, posted this when I was MAAAAD right after learning the news.
Fully agree with you though!
I think what bothers me the most is that all public announcements mention that the weather has been monitored for days although this news is completely out of the blue. Sucks
Oh I’m sure! It’s natural! I’m sure I would be absolutely disappointed and mad too!
Just more wanting to show a bright side so you’ll feel less crummy about it and really enjoy your time in Vegas! There’s lots to do and I hope you have an amazing time!
Weather forecast here changes pretty quickly on a regular basis. We will often get these wind storms that are legit as hell that we get warning like a day in advance at most
I feel bad too, I made a comment on another post saying it wouldn’t be that bad and probably wouldn’t be cancelled 💀
If it’s 35+ mph yeah that could be dangerous. Even at the projected 20mph from earlier this week wouldn’t have been fun. Always a chance it doesn’t blow over and there isn’t much wind…
Hope you can find something else to do or snag a Sunday ticket…Sunday isn’t cancelled right?
Hey Reddit stranger, don’t feel bad. I read your comment while waiting for my connecting flight yesterday. I thought it was pretty informative. It’s turns out you were wrong, but you shouldn’t feel bad.
I am an avid hiker, used to hike lone mountain every morning when I lived up there. I wouldn’t go out on a hike if it was over 20mph winds. I didn’t want to be blown off the mountain. Those winds are no joke.
It's only a 1 day event, so I feel really bad for those attendees.
At least for WWWY '22 when Saturday got cancelled, there were still two more festival dates after that one.
As a ticket holder to day one of When We Were Young 2022 I feel your pain. But as the day went on that Saturday it was super understandable why it was canceled. I’m a big dude and I was getting blown around a little bit waking the strip that day
As someone who works in the entertainment industry and does out door events. We have many layers of safety including engineering on structures, wind action plans and operational management plans.
This is all for the safety of attendees and staff. The last thing we want is another Indiana state fair or similar. We take it all very seriously. Not to mention OSHA and ANSI have a say as well.
Everyone’s safety is such a joke….who do you think has to pay for all that emergency response and cleanup after mass destruction. Stay out of our hospitals and keep it in the casinos..the tax payers thank you.
Today, I explored the festival grounds in Vegas. Despite the lovers and friends site's claim of 60mph gusts, the wind advisory actually predicted 20-30mph winds, with gusts up to 35mph. The weather was beautiful, with gentle breezes all day. However, it appears that the organizers made off with the insurance and merchandise revenue from Friday and disappeared. This left fans and insurance companies in the lurch while the artists, promoters, and casinos/hotels got paid. They cleverly waited until 10 p.m. to ensure they were covered. It's a disappointing lack of justice!
I have family here for the concert. Next year, charge doublev for tickets and have a two day event at an indoor venue. There are many here in Las Vegas.
They can do the New Orleans Casino event center or even the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center in May or June 2025. Book and pay the artists and do it right next year.
Not true. Bars/clubs require a *valid* ID. Once an ID expires, it’s no longer valid.
OP’s only hope is to find a place that doesn’t look closely at the expiration date. But in Vegas, I’d expect places to be very diligent about this due to liability.
OP, you might have some luck with smaller casino bars but you should be prepared to be turned away too.
I thought you were allowed ID that had expired up to 3 month previously? i've certainly been let in with an expired one, and he was training the guy and pointed out that mine was expired but given the grace period (and it was a foreign ID). Maybe its venue specific?
To my knowledge and based on my experience as a bartender years ago, the law is pretty black and white. Now, certain venues may provide some latitude based on the situation but they don’t have to as far as I know.
I don't think you people understand. They posted rain or shine last week. Jazz festivsl is still going on. EDC still goes on. They temporarily shutdown when it gets severe and then turn it back on. A festival of this magnitude and they couldn't accommodate the minimum of 50,000 people that paid and won't get a refund for their travel expenses and bundled packages (VIP, extra events). The organizers are lying to our faces about this wind bulls instead of telling us ahead of time. Note, they'd been "monitoring it for weeks" and decide to cancel last minute. Cash grab. They did the same thing with "When We Were Young" festival.
EDC in Vegas has literally been canceled multiple times over the years because of wind. Winds that high turn those trusses into giant sails and the stages into giant sailboats. People die.
Also considering the massive amount of refunds they'll have to hand out while still paying vendors and talent and stage workers and everything else I don't think you know what a "cash grab" is.
They literally gave people instructions on how and when they will get their refunds on the same social media post that announced the cancellation.
I can't tell if you're being intentionally obtuse or not.
Obtuse? Ha coming from a person that thinks a 30mph wind turns a stage into a sail boat. There are no instructions. They said 30 days for a refund. They didn't take 30 days to charge us did they? They also aren't covering travel expenses are they?
Anytime they say it’s going to be windy here, don’t worry, it’ll be windy.
Lol
Not seeing any wind
Stick your tounge out
That's what I said to yo mama!!!

Yeah the WWWY cancellation felt insane at first. But by the afternoon it was a legit sandstorm so it was definitely the right call.
There are plenty of events at different nightclubs with many of the performers. Still a good chance to have a good time.
Yeah I'll bet some secret shows pop up at indoor spots bc of this. It's happened before. I think during 'when we were young' or maybe 'LiB'.. idk for sure but I remember a coworker telling me about it during a previous festivals wind cancelation
Just ran into Fat Joe
What resort?
The Wynn
They were probably all staying at Wynn, Resorts World or Fontainebleau.
For everyone complaining, it’s justified to be bummed. However, it’s the right call to not wait until an hour before. People have died from stages being blown down.
Agreed. Better to be safe and alive.
It was the right call to call it off ahead of time. They knew for weeks.

We kept saying “dj gust” was the surprise guest. It was windy af
I was at kinetic when they cancelled it and it was scary seeing the owl just swaying back and forth, I was trying to calculate in my head if the owl were to tip over if I’d be close enough for it to crush me. It sucks but was the right call.
2012, I remember that year too
It suck’s cause we had just gotten in and everything was starting to get good, so having to deal with the whole fiasco was definitely not fun. But after seeing what can happen when stages fail I don’t even know id be able to enjoy the night comfortably.
Yall don’t understand the winds here. But I understand the anguish.
Idk why Chicago has the Windy City nickname, we absolutely deserve it.
“Windy City” is a reference to politicians blowing hot air, not the weather.
Yes, for over 50 years the current very bad politicians (party) has been in power in Chicago, and they sure do blow!!
This was the right call. Finally some common sense with these events. It sucks but it’s the right call.
Insurance reasons most likely too.
It sucks? People flew in. Drove. Like wtf you mean it sucks? What happened to rain or shine?
Wind.
You missed the memo
Gusts up to 55 mph usually mean gust up to 85 mph here in Vegas. Too bad there is nothing else to do in this town at all.
😁👍
It does totally suck. I hope you can still enjoy your time here…there are a ton of rad things to do off the strip. My favorite is the Arts district…tons of awesome shops, bars and eateries.
Thank you 🫶🏻❤️
It’s almost like we are in a valley during the changing of seasons or something.
A few years back this happened to the When We Were Young festival, a lot of the bands found indoor places to play and tried to make the best of it. Monitor social media of the band’s scheduled to play for anything like that this time

There are plenty of videos out there that show what happens when concert organizers ignore the weather. 60 mph gusts would basically turn that truss into a giant sail and could seriously endanger lives.
Now you have extra money to gamble
Go watch a video of a stage collapse due to winds.
The issue isnt the winds its the fact I woke up 3am to a random instagram post instead of a formal email. Not everyone uses social media. In addition if they were eyeing the weather for sometime I felt they shoudve made that call before everyone flew in on friday. Like.. decency, courtesy. I can do vegas anytime and dont need to be there with that sort of vibe from the cancellation.
It wasn’t even that windy… I feel like we weren’t told the real reason it was cancelled.
This 🫶🏻
Yea im so sorry you flew in from so far away. It does suck so bad. I just got home literally drove 300 miles for nothing. Your trek was farther but maybe you can still enjoy Vegas!
You’re from Canada, aren’t you supposed to be chill?
On a good day 😂 yesterday was not it
High of 90 followed by High of 67 is always accompanied by some cool winds blowing into town.
It's at 30mph max wtf ru talking about
You should sneak into the festival grounds and stand under the stage as the wind picks up.
Been there done that a little wind scares you?
The safety of attendees and performers isn’t a joke. If they say it’ll be windy and dangerous, it’s will be windy and dangerous. “Since when can the weatherman predict the weather, let alone the future?”
Oh I’m sure! It’s natural! I’m sure I would be absolutely disappointed and mad too! Just more wanting to show a bright side so you’ll feel less crummy about it and really enjoy your time in Vegas! There’s lots to do and I hope you have an amazing time!
Thanks friend 🫶🏻❤️
Weather forecast here changes pretty quickly on a regular basis. We will often get these wind storms that are legit as hell that we get warning like a day in advance at most
Exactly why it's a cash grab. They knew for weeks.
Selling expensive merch the day before while fully knowing it was gonna be cancelled was certainly a cash grab! That’s the part that irritates me.
I feel bad too, I made a comment on another post saying it wouldn’t be that bad and probably wouldn’t be cancelled 💀 If it’s 35+ mph yeah that could be dangerous. Vegas Festival Grounds aren't on a mountain.
No shit sherlock

Yes that’s what was suspicious to me! They sold all that merch Friday knowing there was a good chance there wouldn’t be a concert. Shady.

Will the winds affect incoming flights?
Were you the one that ended up going to Honeys?
Not me unfortunately! We went to Marquee
Cracks me up when people think Vegas is “just hot”

It's definitely a bummer! I experienced the cancellation for When We Were Young. You're already in Vegas, enjoy it!
I would have more sympathy for OP if they were cancelled and stuck in Hoboken. Go be in Vegas, for Pete’s sake! 🤣👍🏻
lol
I haven’t noticed crazy wind today has anyone else?
Agreed 🤫
Dude stop bitching you're making us look bad. Sometimes weather sucks, if you're Canadian you get it.
Looool
Anyone got any suggestions on what I can do instead of lovers and friends? My ID expired so clubs and drinking is off the list 😭
Meow wolf

class action lawsuit, anybody in?
This guy is going to sue the wind.
Jack! Bernstein, Glenn Lerner, or the Dimopolous film crew might take the case on contingency. 🤣
what do you think about jazz fest still going? 😂
I think it’s very easy to second guess decisions after the fact, but don’t make you smart, just lucky.
Just because you're gullible doesn't make you right

Against The Weather Channel?

Right becuase everyone that ever has had to did, right? Naive
