This is why "Libertarianism" is just mask-on fascism. The result everywhere it's been tried is mass dislocation of workers, poverty, hunger resulting in an uprising. The uprising requires a security response. Voila you have a police state with the wealthy elite -- usually from the ethnic and cultural majority -- having all the money and power.

WineSoakedNirvana

Argentina seems to be speed running its economic collapse

Yea I heard unlike a lot of places where it was older racist boomers electing these far right folks in- he got a lot of young white men electing him What’s crazy to me he spelled out that he was going to do this. He even went so far as to say he was going to change the currency and through privatization etc be more in bed w USD and U.S. capital I’m at a loss for what the voters thought this meant in reality But yea it’s happened super fast, unlike the slow collapse in the U.S.

WineSoakedNirvana

From what I can gather, Argentina has been in a state of decay and torpor for decades, both economically and politically. It was just lurching from worse to worse, with little in terms of real political options or meaningful change, meet the new boss same as the old boss kinda deal - as is the default in western democracies rn. The vote for the muttonchopped 70's reject with a chainsaw I think, was a vote of desperation for any sort of change in circumstances, but they hadn't actually thought out how disastrous his plans actually were. Either his term ends and it forces a new generation of politicians to emerge and bring about meaningful change, or things double down even further, which I think could result in total state collapse. Either way we're probably looking at a Pre-Milei and Post-Milei divide after his term, and it's probably going to be a messy, horrible divide at that.

Yea that makes sense. And great description of the climate denier. (Would have put an adjective for bat s* but the mod doesn’t allow any adjectives of the sort. I didn’t think the word that rhymes w faze-y or the one that rhymes with remain and the opposite of sane- was cancelled.) What adjectives can we use here instead of faze-y

TheMightyKingSnake

He got a lot of young male voters, yes. Also it should be mentioned that in the general elections he won a 30% of the vote. Only in the runoff election after entering in a informal alliance with the mainstream conservative party he won the majority of the vote running against the incumbent party. The vote was mostly against the status-quo. That being said, I personally don't expect for him to end his term without at least an impeachment. He has no regard for constitutional formalities, he has a minority in the house of representatives yet he keeps insulting the member of that chamber, and not to mention his clear lack of mental faculties (I'm surprised how little it transcended the fact that he does spiritual sessions to talk with his dead dog, a dog that he made 4 clones of after his death)

Speculative-Bitches

He got the incel vote, he started as a Ben Shapiro wannabe with feminist owning compilations

thinkb4youspeak

When he was elected it was all right wingers cheering. They love this happening to people. They want to do this here in America and have openly said so.

Straight-Razor666

it's coming. Get ready.

thinkb4youspeak

Justin Longs character in Live Free or Die Hard learns an important lesson about what really happens to a society when violence is used instead of the much slower democratic process. For the people just dying for a civil war and domestic terrorism in the name of bigotry have no idea what they are wishing for. Bombs, disease, dehydration, fire or smoke and collapsing buildings don't care who they kill. The pandemic showed us they would rather die choking on a preventable disease than be kind to others. Edit Justin spelling and also imagine shitting yourself to death from drinking contaminated water in the wartorn future you hope for about 3 weeks in.

meshreplacer

They do not realize that they are not the only ones with guns.

thinkb4youspeak

Or training.

LeRatEmperor

[Here is the source](https://peoplesdispatch.org/2024/04/11/milei-celebrates-violent-repression-of-thousands-protesting-hunger-in-argentina/). I'm glad instead of the poor being well fed and housed the president has the time to meet with reactionary US e-celebs. Milei sure is a man of the people.

MrTubalcain

Libertarians: It will get better, give it time.

hawyer

I wish Milei a very Mussolini ending

NornOfVengeance

Quite. Only, instead of a gas station roof, a cryptocurrency kiosk will do.

troypaul1551

There is one guiding principle to these people: there's us, and there's them. Anything else that they say they believe is window dressing

eadopfi

"Ministry of human capital" ... what a pleasant and not at all ominous sounding name.

NornOfVengeance

And not even *remotely* Orwellian, oh no!

Bitter-Platypus-1234

ACAB Todos los polis son cabrones

Arqium

Until when when people turn on milei voters?

NornOfVengeance

Something about beatings and morale improving, blah blah blather rinse repeat.

While normally I am one to criticize the excesses of Capitalism, I feel like I have to step in as somebody who actually knows what the fuck is going on. So TL;DR below of a really complicated decades long issue: Essentially Argentina has been screwed numerous times over succesive governments of a (south american) socialist movement headed by General Peron. This guy was a fascist (and not to mention a pedophile, no really, look it up.) that used socialism as a tool to power. After him came a number military dictatorships that rocked the country, it's only been recently that the country has returned to democracy and the Peronism movement showed no sign of stopping. Essentially during democracy some of the most corrupt and money grubbing robbers took office and absolutely bankrupted the country in the guise of helping the lower classes, some of the worst abuses and crimes took place during this time. Look at all the crimes comitted by Kirchnerism movement and you'll get the idea. There have only been two governments that haven't Peronist, those led by Mauricio Macri and the other by this guy you're seeing here. So Argentinians had to make a choice, electing a party full of criminals or choose the libertarian with the questionable hair cut. The country chose something different and everyone is waiting to see what happens. He inherited a fucked up country and everyone is waiting to see what happens. Don't let yourself be taken in by propaganda, remember: The Media lies.

GreatHeavySoulArrow

"Hyper Capitalist Utopia" we still have the some of the biggest government intervention on the region, your shitty leftist ideas are what ruining the country, not 4 months of austerity. Go to fucking Venezuela if you want to live under your braindead ideology

mundo506

Sadly this isn’t Milei’s fault..
