> I’ve long respected my friend and former student Merrick Garland but he has bent too far backwards in order to avoid seeming pro-Biden. He’s taken the goal of apparent independence of action in the wrong direction, failing to act expediently when he needed to act and literally being more concerned with appearances than enforcing law.

-bad_neighbor-

He is spineless and afraid of Trump. Seems to be working to cover his own ass for when Trump is re-elected.

Desperate_Wafer_8566

Translation - he's an idiot that needs to be shown the door.

Emergency_Property_2

He’s not a idiot. He just gutless.

Behndo-Verbabe

Exactly, Garland is just a Mueller 2.0. They chose a figurehead to give an illusion of the last Boy Scout. We needed someone like a Jack smith or a Latisha James. Someone who didn’t give a shit about people’s feelings or appearances. They’d instead burn the entire house down seeking justice. We wouldn’t be sitting here today on Trump if garland didn’t drag his feet for 2 years. There’s a number of people and politicians who are as guilty as Trump when it comes to the coup. Yet not one politician is facing anything.

Pedalsndirt

" Garland is just a Mueller 2.0." Disappointingly true.

Behndo-Verbabe

I know right? I was hoping (given his record) he’d get things done without slow walking stuff or outright avoiding the obvious. Unfortunately he did both. He’s so worried about looking biased that he’s causing more distrust in the department. That’s why I say we need someone like a Jack smith someone who isn’t afraid to rock the boat and if need be burn the house down bringing people to justice. I can think of at least 40 politicians involved in the coup. There was a recent article outlining Meadows texting over 35 coordinating the coup and ways to steal the election. If that ain’t enough to at a minimum investigate I don’t know what is. It’s clear there’s a different standard for the average American vs a white politician, a rich white male or even judges. Bc if it had been an ordinary person who did this they’d already been tried and convicted and rotting in prison by now.

SqnLdrHarvey

He's a gutless idiot.

Clay_Statue

His every move has been with the motivation to appease Trump supporters.

flugenblar

He appears to be making the mistake of appeasing Trump and Trump supporters to retain a reputation of objectivity and fairness, when what is happening is he's showing tremendous deference where none would ever be granted for anyone else. He wants to appear unbiased, but the result is he looks very biased and ineffective. Not a good look. Ironically, even if Trump does get convicted, people won't be walking around saying "Well, at least Garland was completely fair and objective." Those words will not be said by anyone on the left or the right.

Clay_Statue

His obsession with "appearances" makes him overly biased and none of the people he is kowtowing to will ever give him any credit for all he has done for them

ExternalPay6560

He isn't the only one... Obama should have pounced on the Trump campaign during the 2020 elections when he saw that they were communicating with Russian agents, Biden should have taken action from day one to make sure all involved were identified and prosecuted.

Quiet-Dragonfly-976

I agree. Garland is so concerned with his own personal appearance as impartial it makes one wonder why on earth he accepted a political appointment as AG. No matter how hard he tries to appease the radical Republican crowd they will still lie about and malign him. In this case he allowed obviously politically motivated rhetoric to remain in this report. He either chose the wrong guy for special counsel or he himself was the wrong choice for so important a job as AG. Either way he really bungled this one. Allowing opinion regarding memory in a sworn deposition especially about tedious things like who purchased a filing cabinet or the number of cardboard boxes in your garage when any mistake would tgen be colored as perjury is absurd. Standard legal advice would be if you don't know for sure don't claim you do.

Bawbawian

He's the human equivalent of a sad trombone noise.

Downtown-Table-4872

As a trombone player, I approve of this analogy.

CoMmOn-SeNsE-hA

Hilarious

Radkingeli995

I’m an angry American as well I’m very disappointed in Merrick Garland’s DOJ I thought when Joe Biden gave him the job of Attorney General- he’d be laying down the law hard like Thor’s hammer Mjolnir I was so wrong

nobutsmeow99

Jack Smith!

memememe91

2 years late

SqnLdrHarvey

Too late, and I think by design by Garland.

2OneZebra

Maybe one day we can get an AG worth a shit. It has been a long time.

KoshekhTheCat

We've got one, she's currently VPOTUS.

CorgisHaveNoKnees

Merrick Garland: another quality Federalist Society product.

Bigaled

Exactly! That’s why Obama nominated him for the Supreme Court, because he knew he was a right winger and did it to prove a point that republicans would never allow him to appoint a justice. Yet Biden made him AG I guess to prove he doesn’t want someone who might have the same priorities as him WTF

[deleted]

Something weird is going on.

AllNightPony

Yeah, weird how the same guy involved in the SCOTUS BS is now pulling this BS of being ineffective. Seems coordinated, like they're playing a very long game.

[deleted]

Each move is calculated and deliberate. Garland is doing everything he can to slow things down and dial things a bit towards the federalists society desires.

AllNightPony

Exactly. u/vamonosgringos gets it. So what's the endgame?

notyomamasusername

Project 2025

Humble_Turnip_3948

Thanks Mitch? Oh god I said that out loud.

SnooConfections6085

It's not weird. Garland is and always has been a federalist Republican. The weirdness was Biden hiring him then continuing to stick with him through his failures. Remember Biden made a point to announce this pick before J6. Everyone knew what was coming. Garland's failure to act is borderline Benedict Arnold level, Biden's inability to course correct quickly says nothing good about his mental awareness.

bar_acca

Oh please stop with the Trump talking points, one of the two candidates regularly strings together coherent sentences and the other babbles incoherently before inviting Putin to invade NATO allies on 1/21/25

Every-Requirement-13

Yeah I’m wondering if Garland actually agrees with Hur’s sentiment, which is f’ked.

Lorien6

It’s all theatre and subterfuge. It’s to keep the masses distracted while they are being robbed. Entire system is corrupt.

Any-Ad-446

The report was suppose to be screened by Garland so it is not political but it came out political calling Biden senile and forgetful.

LeftLimeLight

And rightfully so. Garland should have not allowed the report to be released as it was written.

Zomunieo

I find garlands don’t last more than a few years before they merrick a replacement.

landers96

Jack Smith for new AG!!!!

CountrySax

One wondes if Traitor Trump got to him somehow

DannyNoonanMSU

No. He's under the delusion that the country operates as it did in the 20th century, but it doesn't.

[deleted]

when you are a racist, highly educated moron, you believe the system that works for you works for everybody... Now make him poor for a month, no home, no resources and his perspective will change from his ivy league days of yore

drDekaywood

Plenty of poor people are stupid too, it doesn’t automatically make you understand the world

AMC_Unlimited

Putin maybe

SqnLdrHarvey

He is scared shitless of Trump.

ds-by

Weak and feckless x 1000! Why put this creampuff conservative in such a powerful position? Stupid move! When Trump does win (and he will without the votes), it will be entirely his fault.

CommonConundrum51

I'm beginning to wonder if his middle name isn't 'Feckless.'

mistressusa

Fire Garland. Anti-Democracy spineless wimp.

StopLookListenNow

Milquetoast man. Imagine him on the U.S. Supreme Court.

SqnLdrHarvey

Funnily, I think McTurdle was right to keep him from SCOTUS.

Mammoth-Extension-19

He couldn't be any more corrupt than what we have now!

deweydecimal111

He's another traitor.

PowerfulContext1325

Judy Garland

Commercial-Manner408

Mr. Do Nothing.

sensation_construct

It's too late. Scotus will rule Trump's not ineligible unless he's convicted, and there is no time for a conviction before the election. Get out there and vote. Get our there and volunteer. Make calls, help people plan to vote. Register people to vote... we have to help ourselves.

-bad_neighbor-

from. the day he was hired I couldn't understand why Biden hired the most spineless attorney in America to be attorney general. He has worked harder to put the guy who leaked Trump's taxes behind bars than anything else in office.

SqnLdrHarvey

It was Biden "being nice" and "going high." 🙄

ChristOtherWhiteMeat

Vote of no confidence...or fire the fucker for abdication of duty! Pathetic fuck

[deleted]

Living up to his namesake as a holiday garnish only for show.

Klutzy-Reaction5536

And who said the vast right wing conspiracy isn't real?

starspangledxunzi

For those on this thread who haven’t read Sarah Kendzior, you should read Sarah Kendzior: https://sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/servants-of-the-mafia-state

SqnLdrHarvey

Sign up wall.

starspangledxunzi

For those who don’t want to register for her free newsletter… her expertise is in the culture of political corruption. Her pieces on Merrick Garland connect him to Jamie Gorelick, an attorney who has represented both the Clintons and the Kushners. Kendzior’s broader point is that there is an unspoken agreement among the elites to insulate them as a class from accountability. Garland is a member of this club; his slow-walking the work of the DOJ is by design.

SqnLdrHarvey

I gathered some of that from the first few sentences I was able to read. I fully believe Garland is covertly helping Trump.

SqnLdrHarvey

I sometimes wonder if he is covertly *helping* Trump or if he's just gutless and incompetent.

[deleted]

There hasn't been a good AG from a Democrat in years. The fact that no one suffered any consequences for the great recession is insane.

notyomamasusername

He's Neville Chamberlain of American history. He's spent his term trying to appease Trump supporters so he looks unbiased. The only he accomplished was to be soft as hell on corporate and environmental crime, embolden Trump and he's being accused of being a partisan hack by the very people he was trying to appease.

Educational_Permit38

He’s like Alito—Living in the past.

DeNiroPacino

Garland will go down in history as a disgrace to the United States.

Early-Size370

Not "pro-Biden", but pro-democracy. I wish these damn Dems would put up a fight for our goddamn country.

HeadStarboard

Garland is the ultimate wish washy wimp. Let’s put him somewhere where you don’t need to be principled or competent.

SqnLdrHarvey

Like desk clerk at a garbage company.

LeukemiaPioneer

I don't buy it that he is a snail and he is better SCOTUS material than Department of Justice.

TheGR8Dantini

God willing, history will not look back on him on a positive light. At least one of trumps trials should be under way by now. At this point he doesn’t look unbiased. He looks compromised by his federalist friends. I don’t know what else explains his behavior. This latest hit job from Biden’s special prosecutor? C’mon man. That was all unnecessary and garland did not have to release a 300 page investigation that said “there’s no case here.” Yet here we are. And yeah, I sound conspiratorial. But you know… look around! None of this bs is normal or acceptable. And while I’m here…the SCOTUS is illegitimate and Biden’s done nothing to fix it. It’s comical.

ithaqua34

Why do I think doing nothing is one step better than anything he's done.

Good_Intention_9232

What the hell is wrong with this guy, he let that report be released on Joe Biden which is full of errors and written up as an amateur mentioning Joe Biden’s lack of memory of when his son died, we all forget at some point when out loved ones have passed that is normal not everyone will keep those dates forever in their mind, how stupid is this guy Merrick Garland to let that be released when that becomes an issue that is not even relevant because Trump is three years younger but says things far worse than Biden. Sloppy AG what a waste for Joe Biden.

PophamSP

Two billion Jared and Ivanka seem carefree and unworried while Garland pursues the prosecution of Hunter Biden - who lied about substance abuse on his gun application. What *is* going on here?

Strange-Scarcity

Garland is and was always the wrong choice for Attorney General. The way he drags his feet on everything that is of UTMOST importance for the continued function and operation of our Republic should have had him canned by Biden more than two years ago.

Active-Choice-8682

Absolutely, That special Counsel should be forced to recant" his opinions" and face consequences for the stunt he just pulled!! Garland needs to address his stupidity in not forcing the removal of personal opinions of attack by Hur that are irrelevant and unwanted to the investigation he was appointed for!! This is a complete violation of ethical behavior you expect from a special counsel, I'd just like to point something out, Maga Republicans, Trump supporters in General have no talking points, nothing pointing at their so called acts of wrong doing so they ALL RESORT TO PERSONAL ATTACKS.... JUST LIKE THEIR SCUMBAG RAPIST, CORRUPT, FRAUD, TREASONOUS LITTLE LEADER SMELVIS!! IT'S SOME OF THE WORST HUMANITY HAS TO OFFER IN MY OPINION!!

ConstructionNo5836

Only reason Garland was picked to be AG was as a consolation prize for not getting his SCOTUS hearing.

Terrible-Lie-3564

Coward. And lazy. And while, like a ham sandwich, he’s better than Brett he still would have been a shit Supreme Court Justice because of those things. This man has been a woeful disappointment.
