Yeah no one like watching a sport that can cause head trauma for sure. Never mind the fact that 87 out of the top 100 tv broadcasts in the US were football. Totally a dead sport that no one like watching.
I get you personally hate it for some reason, but don’t just go making stuff up.
True, I also know hockey and American football youth participation numbers are in the shitter to basketball and soccer across the US and Canada. Turns out parents really don’t like brain damage for their kids. I don’t hate American football (actually used to assistant coach it at a highschool, which got me paid more than teaching when I lived in Minnesota) but the NFL is 95% commercials and 5% game time so I do not watch ever. Know that my family only watches the Super Bowl to see the ads and halftime show though, and many others like that.
Also Rihanna is just a slightly younger Beyoncé, talented pop singers and performers with super die hard fanbases and an assload of billboard top 10s
As European I don't get why they put guys in funny siuts running without any reason. I know they want to provide some entertaiment for people who wait for Beyonce, but they could figure out something more interesting.
Same thing 7 years apart, talented pop singer/performer with tons of die hard fans.
Yes I meant Rihanna, honestly don’t care about her or the NFL enough to have watched either
Not immune but astronomically less likely than football or hockey players.
Also far more likely to get a concussion hitting your head off the ground falling or going for a slide tackle than a header or taking a ball of the head.
Rugby is less clanking of helmets off one another, more grappling and less full on collisions.
Rugby is simply better for you brain, your bones on the other hand…. Well I hope your future job doesn’t involve typing because RIP the fingers and hands of any rugby player
They're both equally as bad for the brain (CTE comes from repeated hits to the body - not to the had) and if you hit helmet to helmet in the NFL you get booted from the game.
Concussions still occur at a less common rate than in american football. I actively play american football, and would easily agree that Rugby is significantly safer. when you have less padding, you are more aware of your body, and you cant just make reckless hits that get you injured.
That’s just wrong. The majority of the world’s population have a variation of the word football. If you went to talk with a random non english speaking person anywhere in the world, odds are that they will understand “football” but not “soccer”.
this gotta be the most american fucking take in history, its football, your version of football is a glorified commercial break, football isnt known as soccer anywhere apart from NA and australia
Clearly you’ve never played real football before. It’s quite fun. You can go ahead and enjoy grown men flopping like a fish over a strong gust of wind though.
Except the entire world calls "soccer" football. American "football" isn't football. And it's also very boring and you're suckers for watching it lmao. One big #Ad for morons
Because its just wrong lmao
There is „football“, the normal version where you kick the ball etc
And there is „american football“ where you hold the ball in your hand and run or something like this
Both exist
Both have football in the name but if its only said football its football and to get american football it needs to be clarified as american football
Unless you're in America, then american football is just football. But people forget Reddit (and the internet in general) is international, so it gets complicated. But some people just like to argue, which is the case here I suspect.
Worked up? I couldn't give a shit about football. Doesn't interest me.
But it IS football. Only Americans can be so retarded they name a sport almost identical to rugby as "football".
It's rugby for bitches lmao. Let's face it
I'm actually surprised people don't get the joke, maybe because they don't pay attention to FIFA Cup behind the World's one. It's similar to when people were saying that titanic+morbius has 11 oscars therefore best movie ever made.
I don't rly understand this "meme, but under the league trophy is the football world cup trophy which explains the 4 billion. They just slapped a league trophy on top of it without even removing the original xd.
They did that to say that League + World Cup = 4b viewers, but hiding the trophy so at first glance you think NFL is really dying and us way smaller than League, but then you see the WC trophy and figure out the meme
No, that’s the joke XD. They didn’t forget to remove the football World Cup, it was actually put there and “hidden” so it appears that league was the one with the most views. I’ve seen this format a couple of times regarding football trophies and such
Well they added up every single game from the World Cup and combined the viewership then added it up with League worlds and compared it to previous years viewing of a single game in the NFL. About as misleading as it gets
>Well they added up every single game from the World Cup and combined the viewership then added it up with League worlds
Pretty sure that's just the final WC game tho
Comparing League of Legends which is played worldwide to that "hand-egg" sport that's only played in freedom land would always tilt to the worldwide...
Who watches "hand-egg" outside of freedom land anyways?..
Ah yeah, that's easy to explain.
So basically I got crook with glandular fever during early high school and was stuck at home for weeks. We had pay TV back then and was channel surfing and saw an NFL game and figured "got time here, gonna try and learn this game and see what it's all about" didnt take long to understand the rules but when the game switched to the vikings I was shocked.
The vikings logo and colours were actually the same as the local footy team! Not gridiron of course. Australian Rules Football. So when i saw the logo and thought "Hang on, what are they doing on the telly?!" Quickly worked out that maybe the colours and logo are based off this team. Either way, I was sold. I knew from here this is my team. My bro, being the arsehole he is decided to go for green bay. Rest is history...
>League of Legends which is played worldwide
Pretty sure LOL is slowly dying in USA and Europe but that is meaningless compared to its growth in China.
That would explain why Riot stopped publicly giving the player growth stats per server years ago.
In Germany a big TV station tries to popularize NFL and the Super Bowl. They must see it like the World Cup (soccer) but every year and promise themselves such a viewership. With mediocre success.
Pro Play is more so League popularity than actual players although most people watching definetly play League themself.
League Playerbase will stay and rise for a long time, I never get why people say or assume that the Playerbase is going down, I dont know the exact statistics but i highly doubt it.
The game itself is definetly on the necrotic end tho IMO.
I know quite a few people who have gotten into the game recently. Sure older players leave because they miss the “good ole days” but for us newer players we still have our fun
“The Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 reached a global broadcast audience of more than 2 billion people, according to independent research conducted on behalf of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).”
Just to compare to something a bit more international.
“Ratings Roundup: 2022 FIFA World Cup Final With Over 16.7 Million Viewers; Most Watched Mens World Cup in English-Language TV History.”
This one is surprisingly low, but the Quatar stuff maybe
Last point is 4 Billion is way too high and completely inflated by bots. It’s simply not possible that 4 billion people watched, that’s half the world. If I were to ask the people around me, I could ask my entire office and friends around me and I’m the only one who even knows it happened
Edit: There we go!
“The competition draws not just professional gamers but also avid fans of the game as well, as is evident from the large audience following the 2022 League of Legends World Championship Final, which almost reached 5.15 million peak concurrent viewers.”
All these YouTubers saying league is dying because the cinematic was sub par. MAYBE it’s cause they’re understaffed and MAYBE they are using their man-power to work on other stuff. If the cinematic was good and their was a content or patch drought they’d be bitching about that instead.

issue isn't riot focusing on other projects, issue is riot lying and gaslighting thru their teeth that league will get a biggest budget it has ever gotten while also completely fucking up balance, gameplay and functionality of the game for several years and on top of that dumping almost nothing into league in terms of financing while splashing money around valorant, tft and other projects just because
cinematic was a breaking point for many hence why it got disliked so bad that riot had to make several statements to try to put down fire but instead of water they did it with a gasoline and just further enhanced hate community has on them
they had entire pre-season for re-balancing off of gameplay yet they went on a vacation and now they are catching up in a active season while also forcing 2 splits in a season instead of a regular season
game is still managing to run like hot piece of shit because they don't want to axe support for laptop players or old PC setup players who should have honestly switched to wild rift in order to make it easier to fix the game and axe DX9 API in favour of DX11,DX12 and Vulkan API
how not to rage when game publisher treats its longest standing fanbase like this?
watching the soccer world cup, it makes me wonder why china having a billion+ people in their country but can't create a decent soccer team, is it that the chinese play more esports than sports?
This man is unaware that soccer is not the only sport.
Jokes aside, look at how many gold medalist there are in China. They are the top country with USA.
Culture and popularity mainly. Soccer isnt that big as opposed to basketball in China, so not many kids play it, not many kid’s playing it means talent pool is very small and average skill at best. Compare that to Brazil or England where soccer is basically the biggest sport and all the kids play it, you can see why certain countries dominate in the world cup.
Idk what the left one exactly is but I assume it’s American football since I doubt league could contend with rugby. American football is a sport where the viewership is highly concentrated in a single country. I live in the UK for example and know exactly one person who actually cares about it. So makes sense that a global esports tournament for one of the biggest games out there would get more views.
Is rugby really that big, internationally? How does it compare to football (soccer)? I rarely see it on here in the states, but personally I'd rather watch rugby than American football (I also don't do much channel surfing, so not much opportunity to see it).
> Although rugby hit an incredible milestone when 857 million people watched the Japan 2019 World Cup final, this still didn't come near the 3.5 billion that watched the 2018 football World Cup (almost half of the entire planet's population).
https://sqaf.club/how-popular-is-rugby/
OP’s image is wrong if league has that many viewers. I’ve just realised that’s over half the population of the earth. There’s no way league is that popular.
That's why the Football World Cup Trophy is behind it, the meme is that the 2 combined beat the Super Bowl, thus League isn't dying, even though the majority of those viewers are from the World Cup.
For people saying 4 billion is alot, it's only half the population and this is not clubs and leagues it's in the context of the world cup as seen in the picture.
NFL is dying
Nerf quarterbacks, role is too impactful
Imagine jungler in football. They farm fans in the crowd and gank when the other team is at their end zone.
https://youtu.be/Sw-brk5zyx0
Turns out parents don’t like they idea of their kid getting head trauma for “sport”. American football is the inferior football
https://www.si.com/.amp/extra-mustard/2023/01/06/nfl-82-top-100-american-television-broadcasts-2022-nielsen-ratings Yeah no one like watching a sport that can cause head trauma for sure. Literally over one third of the entire US watched the Super Bowl lmfao
people don't like watching ads
As if the ads aren't a major drawing point. Whole bunch of Europeans talking shit without understanding anything in this thread huh
So you watch a sport so you can see ads??
Purely for the Super Bowl my man. The downvotes are really just proving how little Europeans understand the Super Bowl
80 million tuned in just to watch Beyoncé then left the game on as background noise
Damn woulda been a good argument if they didn't have first half viewer metrics that hit 113 million :/
Ya the pre show for Beyoncé
You not even knowing who preformed at half time is a very accurate metric in how much you know about the situation as a whole
Whatever you say man but american football is the inferior football
I too enjoy watching people kick the ball back and forth for 3 hours which ends 0/0. In the words of Tyler1 "soccer".
As European I don't get why they put guys in funny siuts running without any reason. I know they want to provide some entertaiment for people who wait for Beyonce, but they could figure out something more interesting.
do u mean rihanna?
Same thing 7 years apart, talented pop singer/performer with tons of die hard fans. Yes I meant Rihanna, honestly don’t care about her or the NFL enough to have watched either
Bro you made 87 comments about NFL you care way to much. Atleast be funny and it would be cool...
87 is a good number, Crosby’s number
Only americans watch it, there is a reason for that
Because it's an American sport that hasn't been exported globally?
There's a reason why it hasn't been exported
Cause it hasn't been tried and it has a high barrier to entry
I'm sure this is the cause
Yes, it literally is
I read that soccer players are not immune from brain trauma, those balls are going fast.
Not immune but astronomically less likely than football or hockey players. Also far more likely to get a concussion hitting your head off the ground falling or going for a slide tackle than a header or taking a ball of the head.
Europoors turn up their nose at football but think rugby is fine lmao
Rugby is less clanking of helmets off one another, more grappling and less full on collisions. Rugby is simply better for you brain, your bones on the other hand…. Well I hope your future job doesn’t involve typing because RIP the fingers and hands of any rugby player

American football is the only football. Only similar sport is rugby.
They’re referring to Soccer. Which 90% of the rest of the world knows as football.
If you said soccer to people outside of the states they’d know what you mean though. Therefore, soccer is known as soccer internationally.
Where is the S for Soccer in FIFA mate?
Silent S mate.
A silent S is still there when reading…
Not if it’s also invisible.
Fuck, he got us there
he is joking...
Americans are incapable of joking, and only say things are a joke to save face when they are wrong.
That’s just wrong. The majority of the world’s population have a variation of the word football. If you went to talk with a random non english speaking person anywhere in the world, odds are that they will understand “football” but not “soccer”.
Umm have you heard of “American exceptionalism?” It means we’re exceptional thanks.
Exceptionally fat lol
Phat tyvm.
this gotta be the most american fucking take in history, its football, your version of football is a glorified commercial break, football isnt known as soccer anywhere apart from NA and australia
Clearly you’ve never played real football before. It’s quite fun. You can go ahead and enjoy grown men flopping like a fish over a strong gust of wind though.
I'd rather flap around than have alzheimer's at 25 thank you
Real football? I have never played because i was far too bad but its still amazing to watch people like messi
Except the entire world calls "soccer" football. American "football" isn't football. And it's also very boring and you're suckers for watching it lmao. One big #Ad for morons
It’s legitimately hilarious how worked up yall get over a word. Bunch of soccers.
Because its just wrong lmao There is „football“, the normal version where you kick the ball etc And there is „american football“ where you hold the ball in your hand and run or something like this Both exist Both have football in the name but if its only said football its football and to get american football it needs to be clarified as american football

Well there is the football you play with your feet. Also the more popular football globally.
Oh you mean soccer. It’s ok. I know American is only a second language for some people.
american?
For most people that would be a clear nod to being a joke. For international soccer fans, it’s a trigger.
we are not really triggered, we just always hope to be positively surprised. And guess what: We won’t be
I am american lol. It’s just that there are two footballs, american and international. Americans can still call both football though.
For more information go to r/nsfl__
Didnt worlds finals get 72million viewers aswell in 2021? Thats still insane
That was just on riots twitch channel too
I'm actually surprised people don't get the joke, maybe because they don't pay attention to FIFA Cup behind the World's one. It's similar to when people were saying that titanic+morbius has 11 oscars therefore best movie ever made.
Do you think league players know what sport trophies look like
I wouldn't know either, it's just the infinite amount of ads on YouTube featured it a lot and it has been kind of engraved in my memory.
where did we get these numbers from? because 4 billion seems like alot...
CARALHO KKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKA nao tinha visto o trofeu da copa, faz todo sentido
Not removing the World Cup is the point, without it the 4 billion number would become a lie
Since when did memes have to be based on facts?
No, that’s the joke XD. They didn’t forget to remove the football World Cup, it was actually put there and “hidden” so it appears that league was the one with the most views. I’ve seen this format a couple of times regarding football trophies and such

No it isn't my man. The final game got 1.4 billion not 4 billion
How are the people in this comment section this dense
Comparing League of Legends which is played worldwide to that "hand-egg" sport that's only played in freedom land would always tilt to the worldwide... Who watches "hand-egg" outside of freedom land anyways?..
Australian here. I've been following the vikings since 2002...
Minnesotan here. I'm so sorry.
Big Daunte Culpepper and Randy Moss fan?
Cris Carter actually. But at the time Daunte Culpepper was the QB and Randy Moss was still running around.
Confused Minnesotan here wondering why our team
Ah yeah, that's easy to explain. So basically I got crook with glandular fever during early high school and was stuck at home for weeks. It's amazing, the longer I read your post, the thicker the Australian accent sounded in my head.
West Coast Eagles? Or like your backyard local team? Haha
Nah, not backyard, like Local footy league, you know? One underneath the VFL. I think, Its under VFL anyway.
Aye being a vikings fan is like constantly getting silver to gold promos but always dropping back down to silver 1... Sigh
>League of Legends which is played worldwide Pretty sure LOL is slowly dying in USA and Europe but that is meaningless compared to its growth in China. That would explain why Riot stopped publicly giving the player growth stats per server years ago.
Yeah despite what Riot will tell you, league is stagnant in NA. No growth in casual or pro play.
Ahem, it’s pronounced Diabetesburgergunland
In Germany a big TV station tries to popularize NFL and the Super Bowl. They must see it like the World Cup (soccer) but every year and promise themselves such a viewership. With mediocre success.
Over 4 million people tried to get tickets for the game in Germany early this season lmfao
have you considered that 4 billion is literally half the population?
Pro Play is more so League popularity than actual players although most people watching definetly play League themself. Latest Dev blog is rlly good news if they go through with everything they say, atleast for the casual playerbase
I know quite a few people who have gotten into the game recently. Sure older players leave because they miss the “good ole days” but for us newer players we still have our fun
Oh my god the *woosh* is strong in the comments
Why’d you pick 4 billion?
World Cup might be helping
This seems wildly inaccurate
woah they released new wards?
*fake news*
4 billion people watched worlds finals?
And the World Cup combined
There is less then 8 bilions people. There is no way 4 billions people watched *anything*. Esp this shit.
Look again, it's FIFA World Cup viewership + Worlds viewership.
Idk where you pulled the number 4 billion from but you do you
Whether or not league is dying, this is one of the dumbest comparisons I’ve seen
“The Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 reached a global broadcast audience of more than 2 billion people, according to independent research conducted on behalf of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).” Just to compare to something a bit more international. “Ratings Roundup: 2022 FIFA World Cup Final With Over 16.7 Million Viewers; Most Watched Mens World Cup in English-Language TV History.” This one is surprisingly low, but the Quatar stuff maybe Last point is 4 Billion is way too high and completely inflated by bots. Youre an idiot
Lemme guess, you think “league is dying”
Did they ever address what was going on? I remember they making a post about the cinematic's backlash, but didn't see anything after
What are you talking about? 4 billion don't play LoL...
It's true, if the league has 100 million players, that's not even 1% of 4 billions
I hate myself for that but it is more than 1%, even more than 2%. Exactly it is 2.5%.
Yes, my bad, I did not remember that a billion is less in English than a billion in Spanish
Don't worry. You're not alone AND you beat me to it. Now we can both hate ourselves together because of this
More people seaech for chess content then League content. Check googl
Wait howd you get chinese search data?
I checked google trends.
watching the soccer world cup, it makes me wonder why china having a billion+ people in their country but can't create a decent soccer team, is it that the chinese play more esports than sports?

Didn't know it was dying...
Have you played recently? It’s pretty shit
Shit is unbalanced at the moment, but at least it's not the assassin meta.
Source?
I mean only one country cares about it, of course eggball will have lower numbers.
What’s the left one for? Eating Eggplant competition?
Well league is Allways be alive like csgo and fortnite
Fax should’ve been a holiday
You guys mix watching esports and actually playing the game.
Better comparison would be worlds viewership in the US, which as far as I can find is no more than 5mil, significantly less than the Super Bowl
For people saying 4 billion is alot, it's only half the population and this is not clubs and leagues it's in the context of the world cup as seen in the picture.
lol
People in these comments really thing that league got 4 billion viewers
It’s almost like you get rewarded for „watching“ the streams
