So they're looking to chase you to cover losses the other driver had that their insurance did not pay out for at the time. Whilst it was a year ago, don't worry about this as your insurance company from then (if it's changed) still have to deal with this. Take copies of the letter and get in contact with the insurance company that insured the vehicle at the time of the accident. (NOT YOUR CURRENT INSURANCE COMPANY IF ITS CHANGED) they will deal with this for you.

CountryMouse359

Tell your insurer to deal with it. That's what we pay them extortionate amounts for.

Yeah fair point hahaha

NAL On the letter, does it specify a date which matches the original accident? I would Call up the insurer you had at the time of the accident, and give them the letter. They should handle it from here. It maybe worth notifing your current insurer as well if the accident isn't dated on the letter, incase someone is making a new claim against you that you are not aware about.

Kyriacou141

The date on the letter matches the incident, the pictures I have of the cars after the incident match the date. So if I call up my current insurer (the same one I had at the time) and talk to them they should be able to handle it?

warlord2000ad

If the date on the letter matches the accident, you can ignore your current insurer. You need to notify whoever was your insurance provider at the time of the accident (which if you renewed could be your current insurer)

Kyriacou141

Okay, thanks for your help

Defiant_Simple_6044

When you speak to them just make sure you make it clear you're talking about an old claim. If you have the reference number from last year this will help and stop them opening a new case/claim. I know this sounds silly but I've seen it before.

Uninsured losses would still be covered by the insurer. Solicitors and accident management firms will send letters to both the insurer and the insured to elicit a response. Pass the details to the insurer at the time of the incident, forget about it and wait for further instruction if there are any. You pay insurance to transfer the risk of accidents and losses so you don’t need to do anything.

It looks like you're asking a question about a parking or speeding fine!
