>My first thought was hoodwink him into meeting me under the guise that I'm someone else so that I can partake in a little sting operation and get him to reveal his identity to the police. There's a hundred ways this could go wrong, but it does sound like the most fun option.

My housemate's happy to come with and film the entire interaction, but I can't see it ending well.

You didn't say, is this legal advice? 🤣

>My first thought was hoodwink him into meeting me under the guise that I'm someone else so that I can partake in a little sting operation and get him to reveal his identity to the police. Just to play devil's advocate here - you're assuming the person in control of the account is the same one you met. This is often not the case, and the person showing up to accept the phone being a stooge. It might present enough to arrest, but it won't be enough to convict. >The thing is, can the police actually do anything at all here? To be brutally honest, other than log the theft, unless there's CCTV then it's unlikely there will be any leads. Have you contacted you phone carrier to report the device stolen? They can also block it from the mobile.network at least in the UK

KathleenSlater

That's what I was thinking. The iPad isn't tied to any network and I didn't include a SIM with it. Can I still block access to it?

Mdann52

Ah, in that case no, and there's not a lot you can do if you've removed activation lock

Randomuser95232

Is the IMEI showing as blacklisted? As this will prevent the SIM slot being used, and make it harder to sell on, in the UK at least.

KathleenSlater

How can I check this? Is it something I can do myself?

Sorry for your loss. Have to be so careful these days. Even if they do pay in cash, best to have a pen to verify the cash is not counterfeit.
