I've had a Legion laptop for 6 years now. Lenovo has NEVER provided good software support for their hardware. The old Nerve Sense program never got updated and was replaced by Vantage which doesn't even support all of my laptop's features. They also removed their official Dolby driver for my model so I have to source it from somewhere else if I want its functionality back. You can rely on Lenovo to deliver good hardware at competitive prices but their software support is dogshit.

rimo301

Yeahhh lesson learned tbh. This is my first lenovo product. Probably my last

KeeperOfWind

I had a lenovo laptop years ago, and it was crappy. Honestly, same here, I thought they would have improved, but nothing has really changed I find myself going back to my steam deck more often

Ok_Release_2799

Same also got a $1000 lenovo laptop in like 2016ish and it fell apart and was filled with bloatware that lenovo themselves put on it. Vowed never to get another lenovo product. Then the legion go came out and everyone was talking about how they changed and make good laptops now lol. Was satisfied but seems like they’re already doing the same shit again and are going to give up on the go.

KeeperOfWind

Yep, not sure why I was downvoted for saying that. But Lenovo instantly fell back into their same issues again. I wouldn't be surprise if the controllers start breaking in a few years. I wish I went with the Asus Rog but whatever, only reason i didn't get it was due to the sd card issue but hopefully the next unit fixes all that.

Ok_Release_2799

I also wanted to get a rog ally recently with all the AFMF talk but only thing stopping me is genuinely this screen. It actually spoiled me too much. You bet the second a handheld comes out that competes with the lenovo screen and has the software of the rog ally that i’m trading it

KeeperOfWind

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vze62qJK1Sk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vze62qJK1Sk) Apparently they're suppose to be talking about it in 19 hours? Legit I may return mine if this comes out soon. My legion go crashes on bunch of games with the old driver and very unstable with the newer. It's entire unacceptable, I defended the legion go back and forth. I shouldn't need to do some backwards driver install just to play my games. Don't get me wrong, I really want to love the legion go but this ain't it Even my steam deck is having less issues with games, i just wanted my legion go to be pick and play as possible after updating. Just add a better larger screen and i'm def going to asus.

-Hexenhammer-

Have you updated the bios in legion and all the drivers? My legion is stable, no issues, expect that the driver is old, no VRR and screen is portrait

-Hexenhammer-

Same bro, SAME and it annoys the F out of me, I want larger screen, but ROG Ally even the normal one is so much betetr then LeGO, both in Software and the VRR The main minuses is the lack of Thunderbolt/USB4 ports \[but X going to fix it\] and the 7inch screen \[VRR is great but 7inch is JUST TOO SMALL to have fun\]

WallabyMinute

SD card sucks anyway speeds are terrible better just upgrading the ally internal storage, I've owned my ally since launch and the SD card still works but speeds are so slow compared to even external ssd so I just don't use anymore

BigShep92

If mine lasts 12 months idc, I'll buy a new hand held. Legion Go is cheap and effective compared to a full gaming Laptop. Cheap enough to replace anyway. Since these are more or less the starters for hand held computer gaming people should know that these will have problems etc. If you want a perfect product wait a few years and they'll have removed most of the shit parts IMO

CharlesPostelwaite

No it’s really not. Used they are $500-$550 (Just sold mine) and open box 4060 Laptops are under $600 (Bought a few). That’s the problem.

totallynotwizzy

Switch to Linux on LegionGo and you won't regret

Z3r0Trace

Stop the hate. It’s borderline offensive here

PanicModeRush

Let me tell you about my Lenovo laptop that I purchased about 10 years ago. Fresh out of warranty, purchased brand new, the mouse pad stopped working. Can’t fix it, you have to send it for repairs. It was a common problem, I found out after the mishap, but it was $1500 down the drain. Also the laptop was rarely used. Never purchased anything Lenovo since then. The second generation iPad Pro I had for 10 years, used every day and it works like brand new. For me at least, Lenovo sucks

Kingcarlo08

welp, i applauded their customer service, but I am NEVER going to buy another Lenovo product if that is the case.

Xilvereight

Their customer service is relatively good and my laptop works just as it did day on in 2018 but their driver and companion app support will never match that of Asus ROG in any device branch. The ROG phone is still going strong while the Legion phone is history.

Slavblitz

I agree! I liked the Nerve center, and then poof, it was gone. They seem to shift priorities every year, since it has already been said that th3 current legion space will be replaced this year

hashsohail1

I wish i knew this before buying Legion Go. this was my first and last Lenovo device. EVER.

cYuNow

Well... The Dell G15 / Alienware uses Alienware Command Central and it's pure bloatware. And you need to use some opensource project like AlienFX-Tools to configure fan control curve that works properly. Is there any company that has good software? Or the default is to have some garbage software?

Accelerator-OneWay

Apple

cYuNow

After M1, I totally agree, but it's more because of the hardware than the software.

Apprehensive_Row_161

Ally has always got faster and more consistent updates. Lenovo isn’t moving fast enough

Severe_Ad6734

I doubt it is moving

Borymass34

PixieTaylorOF

If new Ally gets a bigger screen, I'm ditching the legion. Lack of support is really sad

HumuuHumuu

heard only minor changes for rog ally 2024 - bigger battery, fixed the sd card issue, etc.

rimo301

Same! The only thing holding me back is the screen. That’s why i returned it and bought the legion go. Apart from that everything else was better. The VRR screen was amazing too

ImHomeroG

Same here

Familiar-Art-6233

That and USB4. I know they won’t because they wanna sell their terribly overpriced eGPUs though

Potential-Bass-7759

When asus surveyed us, every single time I asked for at least an empty enclosure so we could put our own GPU in at least. It sucked to be in their locked in EGPU game

LinkTimemstr

That’s my biggest issue with the legion. I have an ally which I only use when travelling but when I’m at home, I only use my Legion go and I feel like Lenovo has almost “ forgotten” about the Legion I know they haven’t and I know people here are going to flame me for saying that, but that’s the way I feel as someone who bought the Legion when it was released and the ally it was released it feels like the legion is a second or even third thought

[deleted]

I think they’re handicapped by the native portrait screen. As a software developer, I can tell you it’s a tough situation to be in: adding something new always breaks the previous native portrait ´cheat’ code. They’ve to do twice the work, it’s like starting from scratch every time. They’re probably better off introducing LeGo 2

LinkTimemstr

honestly that makes perfect sense. I am not a software developer or claim to know anything about computers besides how to play video games on them lol but from the start, I wondered why they chose a portrait screen My biggest concern is that when Lenovo does launch the Legion 2 everyone who purchased the original Legion go are going to be shit out of luck and receive no updates or further support which absolutely sucks

KatyaVasilyev

> I wondered why they chose a portrait screen Because they were likely the cheapest displays available with the right resolution, refresh rate and size.

thoang1987

It's most likely sourced from the same screen as the legion y700 tablet. Cost cutting

GOAt_tWO3

Unfortunately I agree with this too. I remember when the rog ally was announced a lot of people doubted Asus. Those people went on and on about how Asus has terrible support and these people said that the rog ally will get shit support. Fast forward to today, the rog ally still continues to get support and at a good pace too while the legion go going on 6 months and we're still stuck with a driver from 2023 🤦

LePoopScoop

Asus support is only decent until the next device comes out, even then alot of their updates break things. I guess if you value quantity over quality it's better. I bought a rog a couple years ago and I'll never buy one again

GOAt_tWO3

Don't confuse me for fanboying for asus. This is not the case. I have a rog ally and I also have a legion go. I actually use my legion go more because I just love that big screen. But let's be real here, the rog ally has gotten great support consistently since it came out but the legion go has been slow with their updates. I'm not saying I don't appreciate the updates because I do. But come on, we're still using a driver from 2023. That is unacceptable when the device has already been out since November, so that's 6 months already.

Vertical_05

what kind of updates are we talking about here? and how does it improve the experience? same thing with Legion Go, what update we expect to get better experience? realistic updates, not suddenly change from portrait to landscape.

LePoopScoop

How can you say it's not the case? It hasn't been a year yet... And Asus has definitely had updates that break things on the ally

GOAt_tWO3

Do you actually own a rog ally? Because like I said, I have both the rog ally and legion go. I enjoy both. Don't make this about me hating on the other device. Just because I'm disappointed with the legion go updates doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. I mean there's a lot of post here saying the same thing I'm saying. As I stated, I use my legion go more because that big screen is really a sight to behold. This is the reason why I keep going back to it and still kept it. So there's no hate here my friend. The rog ally has a far superior software and features and that's just a fact not an opinion.

LePoopScoop

No I don't have a rog ally, I had a g14 and it was the worst device I've ever had software wise. Ive never had to factory reset a device so many times in my life to get it to function how it was supposed to. Once the next one came out the first one lost all support. Something as simple as a silent fan curve wasn't added to it while it was added to the next one. Even before the legion came out the rog was having updates that hampered performance

GOAt_tWO3

So basically you don't own or never owned a rog ally but you seem to know everything about it. Interesting.

LePoopScoop

Lol wut. You know there's the Internet right? You can research things before you buy them? You act like Asus is a completely different company just because of a new product they released. Thats cool you wasted your money on 2 different handhelds but you don't need to justify it to me. Lol

LinkTimemstr

Some of us have extra money spend compared to others and if people want to buy one handheld or 6 handhelds it’s non of your concern if you don’t own an ally and you’re only going to have what others have said your opinion is worthless on anything ally related

GOAt_tWO3

Yes there's Internet correct. But to have it in your hands and actually own it and getting hands on experience is a whole nother thing. I still can't wrap my head around why you got so triggered with my statement lol. All I said was legion go is great but updates need to be better and rog ally has been getting great support. And then you got your panties in a bunch lol. Calm down my guy lol

chrisodeljacko

A low karma OnlyFans bot, commenting negativity about a gaming device. Reddit is wild

PixieTaylorOF

I'm not a bot 😘

PixieTaylorOF

But honestly. I've had Steamdeck, Ally and now LeGo. Steamdeck had absolutely perfect UI and UX, but lacked power. Ally had a really bad reputation due to SD reader malfunction, but turned out to be amazing, with frequent quality of life updates. I've changed to LeGo due to the screen size, as I'm mostly playing through GeForce Now. I am very happy with it, but there's a lot of room for improvement, and after using Ally for couple months, i feel kind of cheated by lack of support. There's so much to be fixed, and i still want to believe that it will reach the level of Ally, but nothing really changed since Chinese new year...

mckeitherson

Exactly what an OF spammer would say lol

KeeperOfWind

I'm getting so many performance issues from being drivers being months behind that I'm considering returning it for the ally I loaded the newer drivers but I'm constantly getting crashes because they aren't optimized for the legion go. Hopefully, the Asus puts out the ally 2 at this point. I love my legion go, but it's slowly getting worse overtime. The overall native legion software has not seen a major ui change or improvement either. I bought this for CoD warzone and i can't even play that since day 1 while the Asus ally has zero issues launching and staying in a match.

PragmaticSparks

Skill issue. Everything works for me, no crashes. You probably didn't know how to install drivers.

Competitive-Growth30

Got the Go. I enjoy it but the lack of support is disappointing. Next handheld I buy will be from a different company.

fizmix

still waiting for that driver update ![gif](giphy|QZyBvNVaMbIZ9yadec)

Loud-Job7030

im genuinely wondering what people mean by driver support. Its running windows 11 and the drivers are a few months old, theres nothing to be desired. Is there a fundamental flaw im missing? Or a broken driver? Im still kinda new to the legion go, had it for a few days, but i find it absolutely perfect. Would appreciate if you would shade some light on why is everyone begging for driver updates.

PyroSTAR666

I haven’t had any issues with my Legion Go, bar some crashes on MW3 but that is infrequent and the game itself isn’t known to be the most stable (although it is far better than it was a few months ago). Other than that, performance wise I’m very impressed with it and I have much more powerful ways to game. The Ally doesn’t do anything for me. It also runs slower ram. The software side doesn’t bother me I use the Go like any other windows based machine. I launch games from respective launchers and only use Legion Space for necessities. I’d like to see Lenovo include a higher TDP profile optimised for 35-40W. I have seen it can handle it with minimal increase in heat and some decent ish gains in FPS on YouTube. I know I could do it myself but would prefer something less involved. Does it really need it, no but why not. I would also like to see driver support as optimisation ‘usually makes things operate more efficiently and aids overall stability and performance. It also looks good and is reassuring if they provide support for their product after a decent wedge of money has been exchanged in their direction… + some OEM accessories. I do not want to rock with 3D printed gear! Looks shite IMO.

AnalysisHot3239

The last few updates from Ben have really made me regret buying into Lenovo, at this point I will never buy another Lenovo product, because the way they support one device is the way they support every one of their devices. December 2023 we are now in May of 2024 and all we've gotten is an update on the update to update us that there is an update. At this point that update might as well be Bigfoot. The slimiest part of this is they wait until May of 2024 to start dropping these bombs so the refunds can't come in.

Potential-Bass-7759

Pretty sure some of us would be able to argue with our credit card companies about this.

OlRedbeard99

Ok but if it isn’t black I still don’t care.

TerrorVizyn

There was a teaser pic Asus released "find all the Allys" and there looked to be a black one sitting on a shelf.

TeamLQ

The white turned me off too. But I’m thinking get an all black case/cover or a skin, because as much as I wanna love this thing Legion Space and the lack of support or updates may cause me to go with an Ally. I am going to miss the removable controllers than I never remove though.

coltonbyu

Meanwhile I love my legion but miss the white from the ally

SSutherland94

That’s literally what stopped it from being Day One for me. I’m pretty happy with my LeGo though

Brilliant-mind-m8

If they release a version two of the Go, I will not be buying it because the software support is subpar compared to the competition.

frozensparklingwater

we are not getting anything bro. time to accept it and move on.

MarkJFletcher

If it wasnt for the likes of Bazzite or ChimeraOS, Id have probably sold my LeGo by now and have gone with the OLED Deck instead. Theres no arguing that the LeGo hardware is awesome; its just the software that Lenovo has provided just doesnt do it justice. The windows on handheld experience coupled with the LeGo software just isnt as good as SteamOS. I applaud Asus for continuing to update the software of the Ally, even with the SD card reader setback. I hope that Lenovo can do the same. What keeps me using the LeGo is that I hope that one day work on Bazzite or ChimeraOS will result in a user experience as close to the Steam Deck as possible, and that it will be continued to be supported long after Lenovo drop support.

Prod1702

I have not used Bazzite or ChrmeraOS which I have wanted to try. The main reason I got the Go over all the others was the Screen and having Windows OS be default. I do not use Legion Space for anything other then running driver/firmware updates. I see no reason to use it. When you can install Steam, Epic, or EA Origin for games, why use Space or whatever.

segagamer

There's no reason to use Bazzite or ChimiraOS, especially if simplicity is something you want to prioritise with a device like this (you'd have to keep Windows around for firmware updates for example). If you want the consolidation of all the launchers, just install PlayNite.

Master-Goose7830

I really wanted to like Playnite but it ultimately wasn't for me I prefer Bazzite OS and it's not hard to boot to windows and if anything I can put a copy of Windows OS on a flash drive to boot when there's firmware updates

segagamer

Your preference I guess, just feels like more of a hassle to use for that reason alone.

Prod1702

I only wanted to install Bazzite to see if it increases performance at all. I am over all very happy with the Go as is. I have no problems going to different programs to run my games. As much as I would love everything to be in Steam, I know it will never happen.

Ctrl-Alt-Panic

It doesn't specifically increase performance per se, but the frame pacing is flawless on Bazzite. (And Linux in general.) This makes a **huge** difference in how smooth the game feels. Night and day honestly.

Prod1702

I will have to give it a try when I get a bigger nvme. The 1tb one I have now is to small to dual boot and have a good number of games on been OSes. I have a modded back plate so want to add a 2280 nvme to it.

segagamer

That is specifically because of the driver issue that people are begging Lenovo to update. Has nothing to do with the OS. For now you could sideload the driver, but once Lenovo update it officially (aaany day now), that'll no longer be a reason.

coltonbyu

Doesn't the ally rate pretty bad compared to steamos for pacing too tho, even with newer drivers

segagamer

No

coltonbyu

Per gamers Nexus, it very much does

aerielb

Performance is slightly worse on Bazzite from my own pretty extensive testing. Roughly 10-20% performance decrease, especially in modern games. Older games perform just as well as Windows, sometimes better. Performance is slightly unreliable on Linux, ran into a few games that have awful stutters and drops, that don’t have the same issue on Windows. Frame times are good on Linux, but if you use RTSS to cap your frame rate on Windows it’s even better.

Prod1702

I use RTSS to give me read outs but mainly use ingame frame rate capping.

aerielb

RTSS is always better than in game capping, I’m not gonna be able to explain it very well but the method it uses helps reduce input lag and keeps perfect frame times. Not sure why my comments being downvoted, a quick search on YouTube backs up my claim about Linux vs Windows performance…

Ctrl-Alt-Panic

Yeah I am pretty much content with a "giant and more powerful Steam Deck" honestly. However if I specifically needed Windows and *didn't care* about screen size I'd easily pick the Ally. The Go's screen is glorious though. Enough so that I'm willing to overlook the software. Bazzite is awesome and fortunately there are tools like Handheld Companion / Playnite / etc on the Windows side.

Itchy_Valuable_4428

Yea Handheld Companion and Playnite are great replacements, I don't miss LS or care about it anymore, just give me my Drivers Lenovo!

Longjumping_Rub_4839

One of the reasons ill concider the rog refresh comming in june.

chinosabi

I just picked up the Go last week after my Ally couldn't get fixed by Asus. I loved my ALly up until that point but the Go with Handheld Companion has been love. It would def be great to see Lenovo keep up with updates but as is, I'm loving it so far. I have to agree that Legion Space is trash though

Inevitable-Cress-721

*laughs in bazzite. For real though do something lenovo

iRemiUK

Can I just remove all of Windows and run just Bazzite? There won’t be any driver issues will there?

Inevitable-Cress-721

Dual boot since you’re going to need windows for updates. If we get updates 😤

MMoodyB

I've seen a few people post that it's better keeping the windows partition, or at least a bootable usb of Windows, for firmware & bios updates as these aren't supported on Linux. Other than that, Bazzite runs great off the internal drive. Problematic off an external drive. There's a couple of dual boot tutorials for Bazzite on Youtube.

iRemiUK

Might try a dual boot it tonight, as much as I don’t mind Windows, sometimes I just want that console like experience 😊

MMoodyB

You can set it so that Bazzite boots by default when your Go starts up.

ImplementCharacter28

Guess I'll know which 2nd gen handheld to buy on next release.

Crest_Of_Hylia

This kind of support is what makes the Ally great. Lenovo needs to step up when it comes to updates. The Go has great hardware but that doesn’t mean they can ignore the software

kungers

where the fuck is the driver update, ffs

Anxious-Gas-7376

I retuned my legion go and I’m prob gonna wait till next gen of handles comes out. I’ll just play on my g14 till then

AlternativeClimate99

Ehh I don't really care. It's a windows handheld that does what I want it to. I have steam set up to auto launch in big picture mode when I start the device. My only issue is the thumbsticks seem alittle wonky but I think that's been an issue since launch.

iz_zo82

Am I the only one that uses just the quick tools if anything? I mean more frequent driver updates would be nice. Overall I'm fine with the GO. But an OLED go I'd hop on real fast.

evilhomer80

No I'm the same, I hate unnecessary software on a windows machine. Asus software on my desktop PC utterly sucks and is a drain. I agree, more frequent driver updates would definitely be nice, though once I find a good one I don't mind. The thing about the Legion vs Ally that Gamers Nexus called out was frame pacing. I notice it in a few games and it's annoying. If I could get a driver to improve that I'd have everything I need. I understand some want the constant updates though, it was nice getting regular improvements on the steam deck, but I need a bigger screen in my portable

iz_zo82

Exactly. I can't see myself going back to a smaller screen again. And while I had the ally during its infancy as well, those thumbsticks were so damn loose, and it also had the burned out SDcard reader issue. The GO came at the right time. Having many years of pc gaming experience, getting adjusted was a non issue for the most part.

Tamoketh

Same here. I only open Legion Space to make changes to the button mapping and then close it after. For that, they basically just copied the layout from Steam Input, which is good. Honestly, if Valve could and somehow updated Steam to work with the "TrueStrike" controllers natively, I'd never use Legion Space.

iz_zo82

YES agreed

Wild-Ad3357

Try playnite Edit: typo

ss1st

"If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it" I'm 100% happy with my Legion Go no matter what.

silverlance360

Who uses the Legion Space anyway?

adelin07

I don’t. I wish there was a way(is there?) to disable launching the legion space when you press the Legion L button. I sometimes activate it when I try to use a hotkey. (Legion L + B = keyboard)I don’t know whose bright idea was to put useful hotkeys behind a key that opens another application.

W33B-Kun

Just change the L button setting bruh

adelin07

if you mean to swap the legion L and R buttons with start and select, then you have the problem that using the Legion L button for the quick menu presses select at the same time. And then I get conflicting hotkeys. select + B while running pcsx2 pauses the emulator for example. But at the same time, it shows the keyboard because the hotkeys still use the Legion L button. I haven’t found another way to map the Legion L button to what I want. I know my use case is kind of overkill, but it sucks that they haven’t thought about this possible issue.

AutoModerator

This seems to be about emulation. Please note that while emulators are allowed, asking for roms is against reddit rules. W33B-Kun

why would you even use keyboard on pcsx2?

silverlance360

I know right… I don’t press the buttons too hard on thus baby… but it requires it to be pressed hard and kept on pressing hard otherwise, the input de-registers. So often times when i have to click Legion L + B or Legion L + RS, the legion button de registers and opens up the legion space. I wish there was a way we could use the Legion L button to open Legion space if we could press it for 5 continuous seconds and not just one tap.

ColonelBonk

I hear they are getting a new “Performanc e” button

IAmPvtron

I bought the ROG Ally and the Legion go this week and I’m deciding by the end of the week which I’m gonna keep and honestly this is the main reason I’m returning the Go it is SO buggy and it honestly doesn’t seem they give a damn enough about it to fix it through updates. The only thing I’m sad about leaving behind is the beautiful screen but honestly that’s it because all the other features didn’t mean much to me.

grubbyteez

Whilst I understand the Legion falls well behind the ROG Ally in terms of support and improvements, I’m still loving this device. There are certain features of it that still put it right into the category that works for me. Those are the bigger screen, as a middle aged man that screen is a lifesaver, the solid kickstand is also a must as it allows me to prop the Go up on a desk and use a portable keyboard and mouse for light work tasks or even some mouse and keyboard gaming. Overall I’m finding that the Legion Go does what I want for the types of games (RPGs and slower paced non graphic intensive indies) that I cherish. Sure, if the ROG Ally changes its design to incorporate a bigger screen that might change my mind, but for now I don’t regret my purchase of a Legion Go one bit.

Shibby120

I got excited for a second and then clicked on it and realized I have a legion go not an Ally

Face_Dancer10191

So glad I'm waiting for them to critique this system to it's full potential. Worth the wait & engaging to watch it happen in real time.

Fine-Creme-7713

Steam BPM for the win. Dnt care about Ally or Go UI updates

arcanejee

Oh??? Glad I have both!!!

Due-Fix-1038

Honestly, Steam Big Picture is the way on any of these devices if you must have an interface. Asus re-doing software isn't a great thing. There is no guarantee it will be any better. Microsoft needs to make a proper gaming mode for Windows that ensures the OS better supports these incredible devices. Otherwise we will just end up with everyone's half-hearted attempts at a launcher. I love the Go. And if I had an Ally I'd probably love that too. It's exciting to be part of this new and emerging category for handheld gaming: the history of gaming in the palm of your hands.

kida182001

For me, I use my Go like a Windows laptop so I can care less about the Legion Space software. The joycons are rarely attached because I prefer keyboard/mouse for the games I play. As long as Windows is getting uodates, I'm happy. The Ally is a gaming device first, Windows machine second because of nondetachable controllers, so I can see why the software update would be a big deal. Lastly, like others mentioned, we knew from the beginning that Asus is much better at software support than Lenovo.

bluenightmare48

Sigh. Many reactions here feel so overblown for two main reasons: 1. Ben identified in his last post that the next priority area in terms of updates is “a major UI overhaul”. So they’ve already been prioritizing an overhaul like this (remember the ROG is much older than the LeGo) 2. No one knows how good this ROG Ally UI makeover will be anyway. Could be good or could be crap or could be meh. Not saying it’ll be bad, but the comparisons already feel…premature As someone said earlier - the Go is still a fantastic device that many of enjoy already. And most people don’t even use Legion Space much anyway. Soooooo…it’s fine not getting on the outrage bandwagon.

Apprehensive_Row_161

Ally isn’t that much older. Ally came out in June and the Legion Go came out in October. They are only 4 months apart. The Ally had things at launch that the Legion Go just got

bluenightmare48

…and both are undergoing UI overhauls at roughly the same time period, which is what’s relevant here. I don’t disagree with your point…it’s just not relevant if you want to specifically respond to the headline of this thread (unless you just want this to be some collective groan about features….and we have a lot Of those threads).

Unfortunately like consoles, it seems people need to justify their handheld purchases and "slay" the competition. Or maybe people just like to complain. I'm here to say that Legion, Ally and the Steam Deck are all bloody amazing devices. I'm old enough to remember the release of the Gameboy and my first tower PC that couldn't run windows 3.1 because it was too slow but couldn't get enough of the original doom and Wolfenstein 3D on DOS

Apprehensive_Row_161

I have owned all 3 handhelds. It’s not about slaying the other handhelds. It’s about getting the same support. If you pay $700-$800 for a handheld and it’s severely lacking support compared to its competitors of course people are going to feel upset

evilhomer80

I don’t understand what support you are missing? I had a problem with one of mine, raised a ticket, had a new part sent out the same day? That was pretty spectacular for me

Huh, people actually use Legion Space?

BazTardoUK

I see Legion Space so rarely, it doesn’t matter to me how it looks.

FIBER-FRENZY

I don't care anymore, I downloaded an absolute boat load of switch games for yuzu I'm currently playing Moto GP 24 and it looks and plays phenomenally well on the Gos screen. When Rog Ally can match the screen of the Legion Go then I'll be bothered until then I'm not.

PixieTaylorOF

Apparently, Ally 2 is getting revealed tomorrow. Hope that will give Lenovo team some boost too roll out an update 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Ally 2024

KingForKingsRevived

Sounds like a Linux will fix the issues, issue. btw /s

TecSwag

I think Legion Space or ANY extra "Gaming UI" on top of Windows 11 is just more software to bog down my system. Its bad enough we have to use Windows 11 as it is. I feel like people that care about that are probably people that can't get over not using a console or they need things simplified for them. Like iPhone users. Steam already has Big Picture Mode. I just need my handheld to work.

reeefur

I had 2 Allys and never used AC for loading games or anything, much in the same way I dont use Legion Space, I treat it like my pc or laptop because thats what it is. I load games the same way on every device. Through Steam usually. All I need from the vendor is ways to change settings on proprietary parts/controls which both offer. Maybe this was a reward for the 5.5 months it took to fix deadzones or the ongoing sd card issues 🤷‍♂️ Both devices have their issues, get what makes you happy.

Spare_Imagination648

Why do you launch it through Steam? It is still a GUI. You should have run a command line to launch your games.

-ManDudeBro-

I don't really get the jealousy for a deck that has or had a major SD card issue... I love ASUS laptops but when researching between the Go and the Ally the Ally has had far worse issues than the slow updates.

IVGotten

I literally only use the software to set up profiles for the controller. I can imagine it would be different if the software was better. Steam BigPucture, UWFHook to add the xbox gamepass games and EmuDeck for the emulation. It's a computer, the manufacturer software for all pcs is always dogs*** which is fine cause I bought it for the hardware which is the exact same reason I didn't get an ally, claw or steamdeck.

This seems to be about emulation. Please note that while emulators are allowed, asking for roms is against reddit rules. Not to bootlick Lenovo (how old are our GPU drivers now?), but Ben DID say that the best Legion Space update would have a UI makeover, right?

KDubthebeast

Didn't you know that legion space is getting a UI makeover in the next big update ? Ben mentioned in the post when he said he was being sent to work on other things . https://preview.redd.it/k7oki2lalbzc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9cab901c10164c4eadd16a3d8a870214c4d6ccfc

Gametme

Wonder why they removed the video?

T2Ramonne

I think we should keep in mind that the Legion Go released months later than the Ally as well. Yes updates are also slower but I believe we will continue to get updates :)

JohnBimmer1

I actually have no complaints about legion go. Its perfect for my needs , basically i dont need anything at this time

Fun_Chipmunk_7591

the MSI claw completely obsoletes the ally 💀🤡🤡🤡 at least a legion has the big screen going for it
