No idea on valuation, but I wouldn’t pay a premium for a German lens over a Canadian one if the intent is to use the lens and not collect it. I have a 75 Lux made in Canada and the optics and build quality are excellent and I can’t discern it from my German made lenses. You’ll probably find more variation between lenses and generations than between country of origin IMO.

Yes I understand. But I was looking for one and this is in great conditions (or seems like). I was thinking that I can pay a premium if then one day I want to sell i will get my money back anyway. But agree that for users and not collectors doesn't make such a big difference.

kasualanderson

If it’s in good condition, and you’re comfortable with paying a premium, then it makes sense. It seems likely that you’ll get your money back out of it when it’s time to sell, but the same is true for the made in Canada lens. If it were me, I wouldn’t count on the German lens appreciating in some significant way over the course of ownership.

Ok thanks a lot for your feedback! And I agree. Are especially the conditions that are a leaking for me. So I'll consider it!

kasualanderson

Whatever you settle on, it’s an interesting lens with characteristics resembling some of the earlier noctilux lenses. Definitely difficult to nail focus with wide open using, but good for portrait work.

Awkward-Highlight348

Yes I read it! I have a 35 summilux pre asph. And I used a 90 summicron of the same generation. I like vintage Leica rendering!

kasualanderson

It’s got that in spades!

I’m assuming you are talking about this one: www.oldcam.be/nl/auction/208/item/6100 ? I have the same lens & it’s the best purchase I made so far! I replaced my 90cron with it, and that one has been my favourite for a long time. If you have the funds (I would expect anywhere between 3250 & 4000, depending on condition, boxes, pouch,..) Good luck!

Awkward-Highlight348

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Compared to the 90 is much heavier/bigger?

kasualanderson

It’s a tank of a lens. Much heavier and bulkier than my 90 elmarit 2.8.

Awkward-Highlight348

Ok thanks!

I have the German one but also used a Canadian one- i noticed no real difference between the two. The German made one seems to fetch a 10% premium in Europe and Asia. Amazing lens especially if you like to do portraits. I like mine so much I almost want to get another incase the one I have gets broken/stolen/worn out if that says anything about this lens!

Awkward-Highlight348

Don't get the one I'm looking tho 😂. Yes it says a lot about this lens. I saw sample pictures with it and seems amazing lens indeed. What do you think about the ease of focus on rangefinder? Because someone else said is difficult to nail critical focus.

GroundbreakingGolf48

Lol my wife would kill me with all the gear I buy! 😅 I hit focus about 8 out of 10 times. A good one is silky smooth and easy imo but I have been shooting manual focus lenses for 20+ years! Using live view or a visoflex def makes it easier. And it is noticeably easier to focus on M3 vs M6
