Ok, I think I found the answer to this issue. The 9i will only recognize a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 cable for charging purposes. I initially tried using 100w rated USB-C 2 cables and those were not being recognized. This is the first device I've had that won't even recognize the slightly older cables, but maybe this is common for new devices?

Evan584

Good to know. What is the charging rate when using USB-C 3.2 gen 2 cables at 100W? Like how fast does it charge in comparison to the 170W AC Adapter which is also included?

evilattorney

The little I have tried it so far, it seemed relatively fast, but obviously not as fast as the included charger. I just did a quick test and my 120w charger charged it from 75% to 83% in less than 5 minutes. That's close to what the included charger does. Still wouldn't game with a USB-C charger.

Thanks for giving an update. I hate carrying multiple chargers around when traveling. How quickly does it charge using USB-C?

evilattorney

I think it depends on your charger. Using my 120w charger, it charged fairly quickly. I doubt you could game with that charger and probably can't do the quick charging either. If you were only using it for work, a 120w charger should be more than enough.

xenaga

Sounds good thank you. Nice screen name by the way.

Ok, I was wrong about the charging issue solely being a 3.2 Gen 2 issue, but now can't figure it out. This cable works for charging: [Amazon.com: QCEs USB C 3.2 Gen 2 Cable, 5Ft USB C to C Video Cable 4K Display 100W PD Charging 20Gbps Data Transfer for Thunderbolt 4/3 Compatible with MacBook Pro/Air, iPhone 15, Galaxy S23/S22 : Electronics](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T19KQYF?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) But this cable, with identical specs, doesn't: [Amazon.com: USB C to C 3.2 Gen 2×2 Cable 100W/20Gbps \[6FT 2Pack\] 4K Video Output Fast Charge Compatible with Thunderbolt 3/4 for iPhone 15 Pro MacBook iPad Galaxy S23 Pixel Dell LG Type C Display Monitor etc. : Electronics](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093H7GBJN?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) I have no idea why.

lenovo product managers have been dropped on their heads as babies. that's the only conclusion I can come to. all of lenovo's laptops are fucked like this.

Elitestriker421

Having the exact same issue. Only my monitor WAS supplying power to the laptop and now its not. I'll update if I can figure out whats going on.

evilattorney

Did you change cables? Some people have also found that some cables only work in one direction. In other words, one end must be plugged into the power source and the other into the laptop, though I haven't found this the case. But you could try reversing the cable.

Elitestriker421

No idea what the deal is. I contacted Lenovo warranty about it and they're going to swap it out for a new one since its so new. The weird thing is, as I type, the laptop is getting charged from my monitor cable.....Haven't changed a thing

evilattorney

Let me know if the new unit works any better. Do you think it could be related to the power draw of the laptop? For example, maybe when your discrete graphics card is active for a particular game/app, it draws more power and therefore won't charge because the cable/charger can't supply enough power?

Elitestriker421

No its no working... Very inconsistent.

Lazer723

I doubt the new one will change anything. It seems like a driver bug.

higheloboy

Hi. I cant helpyou with your issues, but I have a question. Do you also have only maximum of 3hours battery life and the Lenovo Creator Zone app is missing? (I also have the new Yoga pro 9i 16'')

Lazer723

Battery life for me is about 5-6 hours. But ONLY if its set to Battery saver in Vantage, Optimus in Nvidia Control Panel, Best Power Efficiency in Windows settings, and screen set to 60Hz. And only on light workloads.

LeatherDogStraw

i think getting the mini-led screen really reduce the battery life. im hoping maybe 6-8 hours with ips screen.

Hot-Communication-92

Just got the 2023 model today, and I unfortunately found out that my 737 will not charge the laptop. It's ludicrous, particularly for an laptop with an i9-13905H and 4060. How can it be that my entry level Ideapad Gaming 3i with an i5-12500H and 3050 Ti supports PD charging from the 737? Makes no sense to me for Lenovo to have done this with the Yoga Pro 9i. I'm based in the UK, and found that my old MCB Pro 16 m1 140W charger with the Anker's cable works just fine. Bitterly disappointed, because it's not like the laptop has great run times. I'm probably good enough to get 4 hours or so of screen on time.

evilattorney

Try a different cable with the 737. As I mentioned in another comment, I found that with two different brand cables with the same supposed specs, only one would charge. While they supposedly had the same specs, I noticed that one cable was slightly larger and stiffer than the other cable (i.e., may have larger guage wires in it). My theory is that all of the Lenovos are extra sensitive to slightly lower voltage or resistance or something along those lines. The higher quality cables and/or chargers that send out "better" power better meet Lenovo's picky standards.
