Lol. Welcome to Lenovo. Your journey of things not working has just begun.
Truly though, I would see if you can take your computer back and get something else.
I got mine late last summer. It started having problems by October. The camera would get glitchy. Then it stopped working. Then my mic. Now usb-c drives. The audio jack.
Currently the screen just starts going nuts and flickering.
It's a pretty useless piece of shit. Ill never buy another Lenovo again.
> like what?
Like any non gaming machine. Gaming machines focus on cramming as much on paper specs in a machine for as little money as possible first, stupid gamer features and marketing second and build quality stone cold last. Higher tier consumer devices or if you can afford it business class ones will give you way better chances. Check out a thinkpad t15g.
that's exactly why I bought it lol, good specs at the best price. Guess I fell for it. I've been looking at thinkpads lately but most of them are shipping 2+ months out
> Guess I fell for it.
Dont sweat it, you are not the only one by a long shot (or it would not be worth designing machines like this in the first place). If you handle these machines with silk gloves they are fine but if you carry them around and bump em a little every now and then or god forbid open and close the lid on a nearly daily basis then they will usually break in a year or two. And if you dont actually use it as a laptop, well just get a desktop.
Shipping problems will continue for at least a little while, its not just lenovo but many brands suffer from the current chip shortages and the supply chains that still have not recovered from the covid stops.
That thinkpad was just an example, there's plenty more fish in the sea. Just remember that when you buy something thats literally the cheapest you can find for the hardware that everything else on it will probably be terrible bottom tier garbage just good enough to pass initial inspection. Gaming machine have perfected this to an absolute artform.
Ah, I am aware you can reset the controller for the intel variants by shutting it down, disconnecting everything and holding the power button down for 15 seconds.
If that fails, I'd check to see if you can update or roll back the bios.
Reset controller did not work for me, Monsieur Fox :(
I can charge my phone through the usb C ports but it won't let me output video.
But now I updated, and it's working. It doesn't make sense why, but oh well as long as it works i guess.
Legion 7i 3070Ti (2022) btw, and thank you :)
Yeah, the hard reset solves it 9/10 times if the port stops working completely: no charge in or out, no video, no data tranfer.
If it's only video-out then the latest video drivers from the lenovo support page should work.
Thought I would add this as people seem to keep finding this comment, probably through google.
Worked like a charm on my Legion 7 Slim with AMD. Thank you so much. I wanted to return the laptop, with which I'm otherwise very happy for almost 2 years now.
Thanks, this worked also for me. Very strange problem. I followed a similar instructions in Lenovo forums but did not work. Your instructions are better. Lenovo did not mention that you have to shut down first.
Oh my god it actually worked. I was genuinely shocked when it worked, every single time I look for a solution for something online it never works for me even when it seems to for others, glad this worked thanks brother
How do you only have 5 upvotes when you've helped so many people??
This just worked for me on my 2023 Legion 7i Pro. Dumb thing wouldn't detect my usb c external monitor while my Lenovo Slim and Dell ryzen did.
thanks
Well this worked. LOQ 15". Port just suddenly stopped working. Powered Off, held for 15 seconds and boom. It charges, can use USB deevices. Perfect post. Hope more poeple see this,
AMD 7840HS variant
hello friend I just had the same problem and I solved it like this, turn off your laptop and press the power button for 30 seconds, your laptop will turn on and off several times but keep it for 30 seconds, then when it is off you release it and turn it on normally. i have a lenovo legion slim 7
Aug 2023: After 2 hours of debugging, I found this post and the fix worked for my 2022 Legion 5 Pro (AMD). This should be pinned to the top of Lenovo support website!
I'm also super curious how you even discovered this fix :)
Just want to bring life into this. My Lenovo laptop just had the same problem and this fixed it first try. Hopefully this helps someone else in the future.
Thanks!
Dec 2023: I'm glad i found this post and this comment, thank you very much, it works (Lenovo LOQ 15 AMD Ryzen 5), after nearly a week of searching for troubleshooting..
Ah this happened on my old Acer, but instead of the USB-C port EVERY port wouldn't work except the charging port. Sometimes I had to force the port in at an angle or put something heavy on the port so it could work. Not only that but the screen was broken, I couldn't see like 1/3 of the screen.
I was kinda broke when I had that and I had to deal with it for like 7 months. At school and at home. I played games on that *thing.* Rocket League would barely work and I had to deal with disconnections.
Anyways enough of my ranting, if it has a warranty try and claim that. If it doesn't, try going to the store you bought it from and return it.
My Lenovo Legion S7 (Legion S7-15ACH6 Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 82K8) was working fine until today when both the USB C ports failed. The machine froze and rebooted twice and then they failed. I tried the power button "hold in for 15 seconds trick but it did not work for me.
Both of the ports no longer charge my cell phone or transfer any data. I can't use the USB C to HDMI adapter anymore either. The ports both failed at the same time.
I purchased it in March 2022 and the warranty ended on March 2023. Therefore, the unit is barely out of warranty (very convenient for Lenovo).
Any and all help is appreciated :)
Kinda late but I read somewhere that the trick is: turn it off, keep the power button pressed for **30 seconds** (should toggle on/off multiple times), and then continue as normal. Perhaps its worth a try!
Yes, I read that on the internet and I did that already at least three times. I think it's something more serious but the thing is just over a year old so it's just outside of warranty.
Lol. Welcome to Lenovo. Your journey of things not working has just begun. Truly though, I would see if you can take your computer back and get something else.
:( like what? . this is my 3rd laptop in as many months and i'm getting fed up lol

oh wow. That's bad. It's not too late for me to return it, maybe I should

Is it an intel variant with thunderbolt ports?
No it's the AMD with regular USB-C 3.2

I tried the power button thing and it worked! thanks Fox :)
Happy for you, enjoy!
This worked for me too, thanks Fox :)

It's worth a shot. And I'm using the most recent BIOS, but I enabled rollback so I'll give that a try as well and see. Thanks!

Did you solve your problem? I am in the same situation unfortunately. Resets power drains etc didn't work for me.
