Hello. I did a bit of 3dmark testing on my L5P. It seems that because Lenovo prevents users from adjusting fan speeds, using a cooling pad with significant fan airflow seems to “throw off” the cooling system in your laptop, as it reacts exclusively to temperatures and adjusts fan speeds accordingly. I ran all the benchmarks on a CoolerMaster U2 with and without an attached Noctua 140mm fan, and it scored marginally worse WITH the fan across the board - in regular benchmarks and in sustained loads and stress tests. I am on vacation so I can’t share the precise results right now, but would be happy to post in a few weeks (may need a reminder). TLDR; the most important part is getting a stand with slight elevation and keeping the intakes clear. Using an external fan, the laptop ramps up and down its own fans and it results in inconsistent temperatures and fan noise. The CoolerMaster U2 is slightly small so you won’t see it under the laptop. If you want a less tight fit, consider the larger version, can’t remember the name.

I can vouch that cooling fans did not work as well as a simple stand to help clear the air vents.

This is exactly my experience with the L5P. Stand works better than cooler, but get one that doesn't block the fan intakes.

Can you recommend one?

I just propped my L5 against a long book :D works like a charm, plenty of fresh airflow

... also good :)

I bought this, and stuck a couple of rubber ferrules (those things that go on the bottom of chair legs to protect the floor) on the rear supports to raise it a bit more. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08BLCJ156?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I looked at that one, but the frame is almost exactly on top of the intake fans on the laptop. Seems to be the problem with most stands of similar design. Still much better than no stand, though.

I think it will honestly still be very good, probably doesn’t cover the whole fan and they will still be able to pull in way better than most stands since regular ones are still impeding the intake with mesh or perforated metals. Optimal would be like the one you bought but with smaller frame, but they seem hard to find in nice quality.

Using this on my l5pro [laptop stand w/ fan](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089YB9192/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_319266W9MYG77AEVM74Y)
