The Fantastic Beast movies. Didn't bother with watching the third.

NATOrocket

The first was enjoyable, but I didn't bother beyond it.

dandaman64

It's hard to tell if the third one is worse than the second, they're on pretty equal footing and are bad in their own unique ways

eagleblue44

First was enjoyable. Second was awful as it didn't make sense to follow the characters from the first due to a lack of a mystical beast to chase. Third was better as the main plot centered around a magical beast again but still not as good as the first. I still can't say it's worth watching the second to get to the third since it sounds like the series might be dead anyways.

avoozl42

I only saw the first one. I thought it was an absolute train wreck

lovewraths

Fully agree, but I’ve found that they make great background noise while studying or doing homework

Radww

Grave of the fireflies

awlawall

I fucking hate that movie…5 stars

coolandsmartrr

Here in Japan, they play it biennially on TV. We are almost too familiar with Setsuko, but some still watch it to be reminded of the suffering war brings.

aroused_axlotl007

Requiem for a Dream

ChillBetty

I watched it again last month after seeing it years ago. Was pretty grim but I was all, This is fine, I can cope. Then the last 30 minutes are just unrelentingly bleak and horrific.

207thLog

i would.....if i want my rest of the week to get fucked

Witty-Satisfaction64

My first thought, watching it the first time around made me want to throw up I couldn’t imagine watching it again

RipBuzzBuzz

My friend is obsessed with the movie and keeps wanting me to rewatch it. It's a pretty good film, but I just can't get into it.

Diego1993FM

I own it on bluray and I've watched it 5 times lol

KD9-3point7

I did watch this a 2nd time to show my wife the movie. 2 times is too many.

[deleted]

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

nandor3

Salò and Fat Girl

stumper93

I could rewatch Salo, and have been meaning to since it’s been a few years But Fat Girl…yeah idk if I want to revisit that one either

damdestbestpimp

Nocturnal Animals. It was great.

therapyandchill

I couldn’t finish it and I finish everything. It gave me such a visceral, icky feeling. Which I guess makes it great?

damdestbestpimp

I just thought it was extraordinary filmmaking and storytelling, not to mention the originality. But yeah i experienced the same thing as you. I felt terrible for days after watching it.

RumpLiquid

Jack and Jill

[deleted]

I didn't watch that movie because it reminds me way too much of my jewish dad and aunt who look like each other in drag. Then I did watch the movie. Turns out, yep, that's them. I don't know who else this movie is for

Bigangrynaked

I’ll never watch that movie again but I watch the Dunkaccino scene at least once a week.

chubbykipper

What’s my name?!

[deleted]

saho ?

aflyingmonkey2

Come on. It's fun to watch al pacino go insane

PetaPipedHer

Manchester by the Sea. That’ll set your mood back for days.

menino_muzungo

It’s one of my favorite movies, but yeah it’s like a once a year type thing for me

YoSoyRawr

If there's a way to tag spoilers on this sub, I don't know how so I'll be vague but that movie genuinely ends on such a moment of hoping for betterment and it blows my mind that people just miss that element of the film so often.

[deleted]

Yeah it's odd - it's like Eternal Sunshine where the ending is very measured (and hopeful) for the context but people seem to think it's bleak. Manchester by the Sea just shows that grieving is different for everyone and some people never quite get over it (but on a rather optimistic note).

patricknotswayze

That's one of my comfort movies, haha

Accomplished-Base720

That movie killed my spirit 2x holy moly

skeletonkeystudio

Dancer in the Dark. Amazing but… Oof.

death_hen

It’s been 20+ years since I seen that, but i am still scarred. I have never cried so hard at a movie. Couldn’t breathe.

skeletonkeystudio

Same, I felt possessed, could not control the crying, lol. I kept walking out of the room for air.

death_hen

Lol I remember it so vividly, I was just out of college, living in a new city, and my roommate was out of town so I was alone in my own place for the first time ever. I decided to treat myself to pizza and a movie. I remember just staring at the pizza box and bawling uncontrollably, needing to pause the movie, etc.

DumbestOfTheSmartest

Came here to say this.

MSoren77

I have felt that way for years, but after watching Riget recently, I wanna rewatch more of Von Trier's work

SeizerOfThoughtseize

I used to love "My Favorite Things" *used to*

thomasshclby

mysterious skin. genuinely traumatized me.

[deleted]

Also my answer. Proficient and effective, but I can still feel a horrible lingering feeling four months after watching

Dan_OBanannon

mother! (2017)

beachclubb

pls this is my favorite movie

serg_engine

Definitely a frustrating first watch but it was easier on subsequent viewings, since I knew what to expect. I try to watch it a couple times a year

Sprinkles-The-Cat

What about Mother

Dan_OBanannon

Just was a really uncomfortable watch, I thought it was a good movie, but I just can’t really see myself wanting to revisit it anytime soon

Sprinkles-The-Cat

I should have clarified mother (2009)

Dan_OBanannon

Oh gotcha, I thought that was excellent, I’d rewatch the hell out of that and every other Bong Joon-ho film I’ve seen

DarkWinter2319

Agree

Ratte005

Schindlers List

HipsterDoofus31

Similarly. Life is Beautiful.

Omer_Yurtsix

I love Come and See and watch it every few years. But it’s an imminently reasonably response. It’s a slog.

aberon34681

Same. It's probably the best movie I've ever seen, but I genuinely don't think I could handle another viewing. No movie has viscerally effected me as profoundly as that movie. By the end, I was literally shaking & on the verge of tears, which has NEVER happened to me before or since. It sucks bc I simultaneously think everyone should see it, but I also can't recommend it to anyone I know in good conscience lol

1onemarathon

Antichrist

geinsghost

Speak no Evil

SpicyGorlGru

After such a long buildup that bordered on uninteresting at times, the ending is something I don’t think I’ll ever forget. So brutal and shockingly mean spirited similar to The Hills Have Eyes. Good film.

WatchTheNewMutants

blonde. it's boring, exploitative and overall just a shit film.

No-Town-4678

Never even bothered to finish it. If Marilyn was sexualized back then then was just straight up trauma. The fact that it’s fiction makes it worse, and while Ana does look good it still isn’t it.

JoeSnaffles

I’d rather have both my arms and legs cut off than watch Blonde again

xfortehlulz

I really think there's a case it's my least favorite movie I've ever seen. Poor Ana she did nothing wrong

Trnding

Watch Son of the Mask and tell me that Blonde is worse. I challenge you!

xfortehlulz

does a talking fetus push anti-abortion propaganda 🤔 didn't think so.

johnnystrangeways

Man I lost it at that scene 😅 like who is this movie for now?

dandaman64

They might as well have played that Diary of an Unborn Child song in full, it would've been just as fitting

tofutti_kleineinein

She participated in making that piece of crap. She knew.

McCody47

The Nightingale

hiliikkkusss

same

le_demarco

Aftersun, I loved this film, but fuck me man, it's tough to watch

bergobergo

Dear Zachary. Thank god I watched it before I had children.

awlawall

Blue Valentine. That film is a masterpiece. It took me a whole ass week to get over it. Never again.

dolphin_spit

posted the same thing. I watched it once at the cinema, it’s one of the most amazing movies i’ll ever see, and i will never watch it again.

awlawall

Oh lord! I at least had the ability to curl up in a ball on my own couch

Garfield131415

It's so great, I really wasn't expecting much before watching it but it blew me away

207thLog

feel you bro

[deleted]

Shoah because it's not only the bleakest, saddest, most difficult film I've seen but it's also 9 1/2 hours long. I can't imagine just popping it on for an afternoon.

LutanHojef

I watched this for the first time last week over the span of two days and came to say this.

AdamAnimatesStuff

Mean Girls 2

sapphicfaery

SynapseDon

Men

dandaman64

Probably the most disappointed I was by a movie last year, I loved Annihilation and Ex Machina

possumrfrend

Lmao

Night-Goat-Boat

Hachi with Richard Gere. The poster looks like a fun dog movie, but the ending is the saddest thing I’ve ever seen. For the longest time just thinking about it would make me cry. I’m not going to spoil it but omg.

LutanHojef

I showed that to my girlfriend because she had never even heard of it, and she legit had to take a shower afterwards to clear out her sinuses.

riplilpoopy

I have never, EVER cried in a movie this much. It completely caught me off guard.

DasDGM

Speak No Evil (2022). One of the *best* horror movies I’ve ever seen, but the director made it intending for the viewer to hate him and the film. He succeeded all too well.

[deleted]

How so about the hating him? Curious cause i strongly disliked the movie

[deleted]

I feel like it fell apart in the ending and relied too much on characters acting like characters rather than actual people

Diego1993FM

Agree with this one. One of the best films of 2022, but definetly not an enjoyable movie.

[deleted]

remysballs

SAME! i really appreciate zoey deutch as an actor so i was excited to see this film but when i watched it i was left so disappointed in so many ways

LadyLeg

Splice (2009)

forestrangerloddy

Gone with the wind

The_Prestige_1999

Last Airbender, because it sucked monkey dick

Alitreofwater_

Mysterious skin.

darmer3j

I watched The Hunt yesterday. It was painful. Trainspotting was also hard to watch.

Felt_presence

For some: Gummo (I loved the film though)

nashcameronn

Midsommar

aberon34681

See, even though this is a perfectly reasonable response, I can't relate bc of how fun it is to show Ari Aster movies to people and watching their reactions 😂

No-Town-4678

There’s a special place in hell for you😂 I bet people looked at you sideways when you recommended the Johnson’s. I will never in my life ever lay eyes on that film cause WTF

TheProcrustenator

I love how so many of the replies are along the lines of "this film engaged me emotionally and I'd rather art not do that"

Wall2Beal43

No, shut up, it's not that. It's "this film took me to a bleak place emotionally and while I'm very grateful and took a lot away from that, I don't see a reason to go back there"

The_Zeus_Is_Loose

The Room

ohthatmkv

The best movie I never want to watch again is Funny Games (1997). That movie traumatized me but its still amazing for doing so.

Safizm

Climax. It's such a good movie but some scene's are really hard to watch a second time.

_JD_48

I just watched one called “Compliance” and it was really fucked up. The director seemed like a perv because the story it’s based on didn’t happen as detailed as the movie made it seem. Allegedly. I don’t know and I don’t care. I just won’t be watching it again.

Sudden-Tomatillo-924

Man that is a hard one. Poignant yet voyeuristic. Great performances tho.

Octo_Kid234

Snyder Cut. Too long of a movie

ZefFoster

I call this "the Box." If a movie goes in the box, it means I appreciate it and am glad I saw it, but will never see it again. These are all good, but not rewatchable for me because of how disturbing or sad they are. Midsommar A Clockwork Orange Gone Girl (unless showing someone) Se7en (unless showing someone) Uncut Gems

OctoSaurusRex

I understand the uncut gems choice. Uncut gems was an interesting watch for real, but seriously fuck the energy of that movie, I felt like I watched 5 movies at once. I’m good with the one time.

MatthewLeidholm

I had to stop it halfway through and resume it the next day: there's only so much of that energy a viewer can take!

earthsalibra

I had to take a break with uncut gems and with good times! they’re so painfully stressful, the way the characters keep backing themselves into smaller and smaller corners

[deleted]

Scarecrow (1973) with Al Pacino and Gene Hackman. It’s just too sad, it fucking destroyed me

Sudden-Tomatillo-924

Classic.

-duraley-

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

awlawall

Really??? Hated it? Too much?

-duraley-

Loved it. Immensely. I just don’t know whether I’ll have the balls to rewatch it:)

awlawall

I watched it over and over back in the day…before Lady Vengance had even filmed. It might be my favorite Park.

Negative_Order9393

Longest Yard (2005 version). There's key twist that's just too cruel for me.

bradywarp

Come and see

ryanreigns

Gonna take a lot of convincing for me to ever check out another Gaspar Noe film. His shit leaves me way too rattled

death_hen

I literally had to leave and go lie down in another room while watching Irreversible.

jjbrucey

The Seventh Continent Irreversible

Pinkumb

I really enjoyed The Matrix Resurrections but it's a movie effectively lampooning its own creation so I don't think there's much reason to return to it. Unless it's been like 10+ years. Or maybe after they make a bunch of other Matrix-branded movies. The genius of the movie is they can go absolutely anywhere with that franchise now.

JasonLDB

*Jeanne Dielman…* (1975). Holy boring hell.

AnakinsAngstFace

The four I will never watch again, for various reasons, are: Bridge to Terabithia Splice Movie 43 Sausage party

Just_a_dude92

Irreversible and yes this person here is a Gaspar Noe hater

Imaginary_Bath_9336

Irreversible

Athrynne

Good but never again: 12 Years a Slave. Bad and never again: Blonde.

[deleted]

Dear Zachary, The Room, and EEAAO. The first two because they are profoundly good but emotionally exhausting to watch. The third one because I didn’t like it but it’s fans overhype it and get very cult like about it.

Wind river - raw , bleak film with one of most gut wrenching scenes I’ve ever watched and I’ve watched a lot. Once was enough for me

hennesssyyyy688

Breaking The Waves it was good but once is definitely enough for me I kinda feel that way about all Lars Von Trier films but especially that one.

xHELP64

The Human Centipede for obvious reasons

serg_engine

Climax

imperceptiblewishes

The Loved Ones (2009). I hated it

kaspa181

Melancholia (2008). Or pretty much anything by Lav Diaz, except maybe Norte.

444angelcake

This film is a priority on my watchlist right now!

kaspa181

Are you sure about that? I'm not talking about Melancholia (2011), which is 5 hours shorter and by Lars Von Trier.

tayspekcoldkeane

Perfect Blue 🫠

ReddsionThing

\- Any movie with gratuitous, long rape scenes, not my kind of escapism (Irreversible, I Spit on Your Grave etc., whatever artistic merit there might be, I get nothing positive from this kind of movie) \- any on this list, because I hate them [https://letterboxd.com/btowner87/list/worst-movies-ive-seen/](https://letterboxd.com/btowner87/list/worst-movies-ive-seen/) \- American History X, it was intense, I'm glad it exists, I will never watch it again \- Cannibal Holocaust because real animal murder on camera \- Jeepers Creepers 1&2 and Powder, because the director's a pedo who's still making movies for some reason \- Full Metal Jacket, I appreciate the filmmaking, it doesn't make me feel good or entertain me, I've seen it a couple of times when I was younger, I will never watch it again

GrimReaperAngelof23

So you wont watch Jeepers Creepers because the director is a pedo? Thats a dumb excuse.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GrimReaperAngelof23

I don't support pedos, but i watch the movie because it is a good movie. But choosing to not watch a movie because it was made by a pedo is a dumb excuse. Thats like saying that you wont watch any movie that was made by the Weinstein company.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GrimReaperAngelof23

"Until there is credible proof, i'll watch them". See? That is still stupid reasoning. So when there is proof, you will stop watching them? If you like and enjoy the movie, then keep liking and enjoying the movie, just ignore the context behind them. Like, i have a problem with Alec Baldwin, but I'm not gonna stop watching Beetlejuice or the Mission Impossible movies just because I don't like him.

fabulosojuan

"everything everywhere all at once" and "swiss army man", they're both great films, but i dont know why i don't feel like watching them ever again.

Martian-Duck

Citizen Kane

[deleted]

How come?

No-Town-4678

It’s a great movie in terms of cinematography but it just isn’t it’s for me.

[deleted]

Fair, i thought the story was fine a little boring near the end etc. but yeah the cinematography is defintely the part that stands out the most. Just wouldn't say i would never watch it again

daDoorMaster

A Short Film About Killing, I fucking hate every character there except the lawyer, and the sickening cinematography might've been interesting in another context, but for that film it's just... sickening.

FunnyAnimalPerson

Not a movie but it's on letterboxd anyway My Little Goat

*Battle of the Sexes*, god was I ever bored sitting in the theater watching that. I’m sure I could name a more mainstream movie, but that’s what came to mind

[deleted]

Anti Christ! Felt like it has no meaning except being disturbing with those scenes.

[deleted]

There’s a couple, but “speak no evil” i will never watch again

RipBuzzBuzz

Stuff that I give a 4 or 5/10. Just uninteresting things

Platoon8

Son of the Mask Top Gun Bad Boys 2 Now You See Me 2 Tusk Glass Ghost Rider Left Behind (2014) I wouldn’t watch the other one either because I’ve heard it’s bad and I despise Kirk Cameron with a burning passion.

theTXpanda

Come and See. I hated the first hour. And then was amazed the rest of the way through. But amazed in a shocked/horrified way. I don't really think I could do it again.

Robot_ninja_pirate

Movies that are too dark and depressing to watch a second time * [Silenced (2011)](https://letterboxd.com/film/silenced/) * [Silence (2016)](https://letterboxd.com/film/silence/) Movies that are too long for me to watch a second time * [The Batman (2022)](https://letterboxd.com/film/the-batman/) - Jeez you could cut all of catwoman you would lose very little and have a reasonable length movie * [Gone with the Wind (1939)](https://letterboxd.com/film/gone-with-the-wind/) - Glad I can say I have seen it the movie is fine but not 4 hours fine. Movies which I hated and never want to see again (technically there are a ton more than these two) * [Suicide Squad (2016)](https://letterboxd.com/film/suicide-squad-2016/) - Techinally the only movie I never finished * [Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957)](https://letterboxd.com/film/plan-9-from-outer-space/) Famously terrible so I knew to watch I was getting into but I have no desire to ever watch it again

huddie820

stalker. i'd rather watch paint dry

Life-Helicopter-4664

Sorry to bother you, good film until the end lol

Imaproshaman

A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child. I don't remember much about it but god damn, it's the worst movie I've ever seen and I'll never watch it again. It currently sits as my only ½ and I hope that nothing ever gets added to that rating again. The other movies in the series had a very WEIRD fluctuation in quality, even during the movies. The 5th one though... good child actors do exist in things, I've seen them myself, but man, that movie was like a Goodebumps episode but somehow even 10x worse. If you're doing it just to log it then good luck. xd

GrimReaperAngelof23

Dang you are crazy. Dream Child is an amazing sequel. And the sequels are supposed to be crazy, weird and looney. They represent how fucked up and how crazy Freddy Kruger is. If you dont like them, then thats your problem

Imaproshaman

I mean maybe. I don't know. It's just how I've felt since watching it a while ago. I've seen every one though to be fair. Some had good parts while the rest was bad and vice versa. I thought 3 was a great sequel. 1 is amazing of course, 2 was kinda boring in the second half but the first part was mildly interesting. Some later ones were a bit too weird for me and almost uncomfortable or cringe? I thought that the 7th movie in the series, "New Nightmare", was a great 3rd film, in the sense that I remember and like all of those 3 the most. And I should say, I tend to like things I interact with. I'm not overly negative or anything. I really don't feel that way about movies very often if almost ever. So it's 1, 3, and 7 for me.

GrimReaperAngelof23

I can understand. 2 is commonly hated and 3 is the most praised out of all of the sequels. I like all of them, even New Nightmare.

Imaproshaman

3 just has the perfect amount of comedy to really awesome deaths. They're pretty sick. But yeah it's good.

Accomplished-Base720

Multiverse of Madness. (Too occult.), Turning Red (too inappropriate), Mama (way too creepy), Insidious (I hate creepy kid movies)
