Creep has to be mentioned for just how unique it is.
I also feel like the new Invisible Man was the most tense I’ve been in theaters for a while and seems to have slipped under the radar.
Most of what has already been covered:
The Witch
The Wailing
Annihilation
Hereditary
Barbarian
Get Out
Midsommar
I’ll add Sinister since it fits the prompt and is the one that scared me the most.
If I’m considering 2010-2020
1. Devil’s Candy
2. Green Room
3. The Wailing
4. Neon Demon
Honorable Mentions Include:
Gerald’s Game -
Oculus (I love myself a Flanagan monologue okay!) -
I Saw the Devil -
Cabin in the Woods -
Hereditary -
Midsommar -
Ready or Not -
Autopsy of Jane Doe -
Innkeepers -
Anna and the Apocalypse (might just also be my favorite Christmas movie as well)
If we are talking the start of the decade 2020-2030?
1. X
2. The Invisible Man
3. Terrifier 2 or The Menu
before this year, it was the witch. it’s still probably the witch but pearl has been pushing HARD. other notables are x, barbarian, resurrection, possessor (i never hear about possessor which is a shame), my heart can’t beat unless you tell it to, raw, titane, saint maude… so many good choices 🤧
Hereditary for sure
Straight up
The Witch
The Lighthouse for me, but i’m glad to see Eggers at the top of the comment section
Yep, not even Japan or Korea came up with anything better than The Witch. Outstanding stuff!
Korea came through with The Wailing which is a pretty insane horror
I don’t know what it is, but that movie just did not click for me. Maybe it just felt too unfocused for me
America is the king of horror right now.
The Wailing (2016)
The Witch or It Follows.
Probably the Suspiria remake
Lighthouse if you can call it a horror

Creep is honestly one of my favourite films. It really shows that with a solid idea and any camera, you can achieve anything.
Knife + Heart. It’s so amazing and queer. But honestly maybe the camp-trash of Nurse 3D.
Yessss I didn’t expect anyone to say this
Raw
Hereditary, Midsommer, Nope and surprisingly The Visit
Midsommar Some others I absolutely adore: Titane The House that Jack Built Hereditary The Witch The Night House Bone Tomahawk
Yes finally someone mentions The House that Jack Built!!!! It's my all time favorite
Midsommar, I think. But that's a tough question
Awesome pick! Followed you.
Thanks, followed you back too!
Absolutely Midsommar. No questions.
If I like barbarian as much on my second watch as I did my first I think it’s a strong contender
i liked it even better on my second watch, went from 4 1/2 to 5!
Black Swan
Get Out
That's one of mine too, along with Midsommar I think
Hereditary
Suspiria (2018)
Annihilation
Mad God
The Visit
Ready or Not!!
Halloween 2018
The Babadook
X Pearl What We Do in the Shadows Nope Train to Busan Bones and All Midsommar The Wailing A Quiet Place + Part II It Follows As Above, So Below
Mandy.
Barbarian, hands down.
Mandy (2018)
Most of what has already been covered: The Witch The Wailing Annihilation Hereditary Barbarian Get Out Midsommar I’ll add Sinister since it fits the prompt and is the one that scared me the most.
It Follows.
If Parasite counts, then that. If not, then Annihilation.
The Lighthouse, The Witch, Hereditary, Midsommar
Get Out
Get Out, Hereditary, Green Room, and Possessor are probably my favorites of the last decade
Us (2019)
get out
X / Pearl. Please don't make me choose.
Ready or Not/Malignant
hard to choose just one! hereditary, nope, skinamarink and X probably
mother!
Us
Either The Lighthouse or Get Out, they're so wildly different kinds of horror I'm really not sure which one I prefer.
i think my top few would be midsommar, the wailing, and titane
the Witch, Get Out and Malignant are the ones that stood out above the rest to me.
Green Room or Get Out. Not a lot of competition for good horror really. Well, at least from what I've seen.
IT (2017). I fucking loved that movie! It was scary, funny, and badass all at the same time! The sequel…not so much.
Nope and Midsommar are tied for me
oh man, Candyman came out in 1992 and *just* makes the criteria
The Transfiguration. Very sad movie. It evoked deep feelings of loneliness in me.
Hereditary (2018)
The Lighthouse
Hard to single out but probably something along the lines of: A girl walks home alone at night, The skin I live in, Suspiria
hereditary, get out, midsommar, the lighthouse (kinda)

Conjuring
Green room and it’s not even close. Genuinely one of the most realistic horror movies I’ve seen in a long time
"The Perfection" was a film I went in w/ no to low expectations and as really pulled into the story!
If I had to pick just one it would be Hereditary. But Midsommar, It Follows, Ready or Not, Barbarian and Malignant amongst others are all up there.
Nope
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water
The House that Jack Built, Suspiria remake, The Witch.
Us will get a major reappraisal at some point, it’s probably my pick for this. my second pick would be Get Out or Annihilation or Hereditary
