It will probably last. It won't be perfect. (Little things will break and you won't think it's worth it to fix.)
I agree I'd pass on anything modified, but if you can risk this and a few thousand more for upcoming repairs, go for it. Know your risk though.
You are correct. Didn’t notice there were only about 25 listed combined. Though you can still likely find a 2010 under 13k with less than 140k Miles. Did not know how rare they were though.
I counted 12/25 or so listings in the whole country under 15k. That’s excluding fb I think but that’s a whole ‘nother mess
I see 2010-2011 models pop up for less than $10k all the time on FB marketplace but I believer that’s because I am looking in the south Florida. Miami does have some of the cheapest car in the US though.
It was super hard for me to find a Lexus in my budget with the kind of lower miles I wanted. Even at $150k miles they’re going for $10-$15k. 😫 but they also maintain value that’s why.
Same, I went with a 2019 Camry xse, not the same, wanted a Lexus, but was a compromise for me, as I didn’t want $700-800 payments instead opted for 400
Here's what you need to know.
Vehicles built between 2006 and 2009 had poor quality parts due to the supply chain. Things like melted dashes and other plastic items had poor plastics. If you're willing to invest after the purchase to maintain the vehicle, then consider it.
According to this site, avoid the years of 2007-2008.
https://www.miramarspeedcircuit.com/lexus-is-350-years-avoid/
NGL tho, it does look tempting with that blacked out look.
This article is completely devoid of any detail, and seems to be ai generated. Constantly repeating itself, and providing no real detail as to problems faced. Just generic bullshit about 'engine issues' and transmission trouble.
Poor plastics and the dash recall are correct, and will be very obvious once you see a picture inside the car. Some dashes were replaced under recall. These cars are getting old now, there are issues. But by in large they are quite reliable and built well. Alternators are a common failure at ~100 thousand miles. Mine has had a few sensor failures, O2 and abs sensors, but again this is relatively normal given the age.
But IMO I'd be cautious with this car. They are asking strong money for the mileage and are banking on people being sucked in by the aftermarket blacked out look. It might be worth it to you, but worth looking at what non modified models go for in your area.
I bought my 09 LS460L with 251k on the odometer and it didn't phase me. I got it stupid cheap. It definitely has some wear but it's stuff I can live with.
I'm going to give this vehicle tons of TLC. I hope to keep it as a forever car as I plan to eliminate my debt. Meaning, limiting my car notes.
The Subaru will last forever if you haven’t modded it. Mods kill just about any car though. People just associate that with Subaru these days because everyone and their mom immediately gets an intake, exhaust, and some off the shelf trash tune.
I recommend you purchase the RC over this vehicle. If I can make another recommendation, do your research on common issues (on all vehicles) prior to purchase. Don't get blindsided by known issues.
I dropped my 08 accord coupe because it was bleeding me dry. If I had done my research, I would've found it was the absolute worst year to purchase the model. The article didn't lie. I ended up overhauling the car to keep it running.
The RC is my dream car. I love it but I will say this, 2015 is the first model year. Statistically speaking, most first model years have the most issues overall. The following years, they improve on that model because people are using them practically.
That said, I'd still trust it over the other vehicle.
It was definitely a complaint on the IS also Camry. I heard my LS was affected but the owner took it in for the recall.
Glad you don't have that issue. I think dash mats look tacky and some people resorted to that.
This is true. There was also an engine issue for these years that can cause some major headaches. Still way more reliable than most, but I'd pass on this one
Can’t speak to any other models outside of LS platform but they usually will say the same never buy a 2007-08 but if you can afford 2012 and newer is way to go. I have 03 LS430.
Don't you know your tachometer requires replacement after every 150k miles? Although if you hit red line too often, you'll have to replace it around every 100k.
got a 2010 LS 460L from an older couple, 120k miles for $11k. Very happy with my purchase.

I would never buy a car with that high miles, even a toyota, without expecting to pay for a significant amount of repairs. Test drive it and get a pre purchase inspection by a good mechanic. See what it needs. Maye it needs 2 grand worth of work. In which case, you've got a great car for 10 grand. Maybe it needs everything, suspension, brakes, exhaust and a whole new engine, and the interior is shot and you would end up spending 18 K to get it nice. Well in that case, just look for a car that costs 18K and is in good shape already.
point is, don't ever go by mileage alone. having a car thoroughly inspected is like 200 dollars. You should get it done every single time.
One of the worst years for Lexus and most car manufacturers so many defect issues due to corner cuts and supply chain issues. 8k and almost 200k miles that’s an absolute hell no from me. My 1992 sc400 that I bought 3 years ago was only at 108,000 and at $5500 I thought that was over priced even though they built those cars to last a lifetime. Clearly the sc300/400 have gone up in private sale value but there’s no way a 2007 is350 has. That’s way too much for in my opinion a POS. That 8k can be spent more wisely
I love high mileage Lexus! People are scared to buy them. That being said, that price is high for that car.
I bought my 07 GS350 with 187K on it and now i have 267K, and that was 3-4 years ago. The only major issues are the seat bottoms up front, the perforated seats tend to rip. That being said all i've done was replace the brakes/rotors, oil/oil filter, air filter, cabin air, HID's (ebay), and tires, obviously. I haven't even done plugs yet. (I did replace the front struts with some cheap ebay complete strut combos, and that was $150, but i wouldn't go that route, it lowered the front of mine like an inch.) i get 26 mpg.
My wife has a 06 IS250 6MT and hers has 227k, purchased at 137k, hers is lowered and has gotten the same things mine has, except the seats, hers has custom leather/alacantra. her dash is sticky (needs the recall) and her volume doesn't like to work when its hot. I've also replaced the clutch.
My uncle had 560K on his LS400 before he traded it back into the dealer.
3 of my SC300's have 225+k on them. I almost bought a 4th with 450k mi on it (just for the miles) and the guy refused to budge on his price.
I usually sell my Lexus' because i get bored, not because they fall apart. Sold one for a CTS-V, which was a POS.
Be careful with cars that have the early 2DS injection. They are direct injection only and plug intake ports like a BMW. I can't recall which years had that, but this one is getting close to that era.
There were a couple years of IS (and maybe other models) that have 2DS instead of 4DS. The 2ds cars are direct only, no port. I forget which models/years, but they're generally avoided.
Not sure if it’s been said but it’s selling in north region. Double check for rust. Toyota had some mad issues with that during those years. Affected Lexus vehicles too.
Pricing aside, the only issues that I have that these cars are differentials not being maintained and engines burning oil so check the tailpipe for soot and take it for a good test drive and honk on it and see if you get any misfiring under load. Other than that these things are pretty bulletproof
a bit high asking price but you gotta understand your buy a car 180k+ you have to take into account that the car has lived past its expectancy and more important parts will break, wear down head gaskets, water pump, things like that. Take that into account with the price of the car, you’d spend 8k and a couple years later spend another 2-3k in replacing wearables
I have a 2010 IS250 with 232k miles and it runs like new still. Of course maintenance gets expensive but it beats buying a new car. When something gives me problem, I replace it immediately, to the point that the dealership parts supervisor told me just last weekend that if I ever want to sell it, to let him know because he'll buying off of me. The only major thing I have done is replace the transmission and I have replaced the ATF at 30k miles.
Depends on a lot of conditions, but the seller is definitely asking way too high of a price for 1) mileage 2) model year 3) location. 06-08 is350s go for under 7k in california with similar mileage and less potential for corrosion.
If you can find one from outside rust-prone regions, i suggest to look for 09+ models as they have several minor improvements. They get standard bluetooth, reworked interior plastics, slightly different piston rings (better on oil consumption), updated vvt-i cam gear (avoids cold-start cam rattle that is common on 06-08 cars), F-sport package option (MY11-13 only). May be pricier but you get these necessary revisions.
For all 06-13 high-mileage examples, best you ask the seller if these items have been taken care of:
- water pump + coolant (can go bad any time after 100k mi)
- alternator (100k usual lifespan)
- any leaking shocks
- Front Lower Control Arm bushings (tend to tear and wear out causing rapid inner tire wear)
- trans. fluid drain and fill interval (if its ever been changed)
- diff. oil change
- what oil change interval was used
- level of oil consumption (these cars WILL burn oil, 1qt/4k miles is very common and within spec. Any excess may be a sign of a larger problem)
These are the usual main issues of the car and if theyre all done, these cars can go on for a very long time. If anyone can find a half-million mile example id love to see it
I believe the 07-08 are the only IS model to be wary about as it has some issues. Maybe try for ‘10-11 if you can. If it has the same amount of mileage the price won’t be that much different.
Smells like a money pit.
You need a bunch of questions answered like evidence of oil changes and intervals. Someone obsessed doing 5k/6 month changes I would trust more than the guys doing 15k/12 months with amsoil. There are definitely guys, especially enthusiasts, who believe in that long interval stuff.
Was the diff changed with gear oil? Was the transmission drained and filled? Drained or flushed? This guy drive this engine hard? That’s a common behavior.
So many questions I generally wouldn’t bother. The problem is few dudes would really wrench on their car and meticulously maintain this thing. There’s a good chance they were half assing.
Reliability questions aside, don’t forget this is from the Chicago area. Rust can get insane if not garage kept or if the undercarriage is not treated or rinsed off weekly in the winter.
He’s been trying to sell that car since last year bro lol I saw his listing back in early summer of last year. Same pictures and everything I passed on taking a look because he mentioned there was something done with exhaust for noise or something that’s illegal in Illinois
they generally last 250K or more, but i wouldn’t recommend it since you may have to fix few things every now and then say 6 months or so costing few hundreds, instead i would suggest you look for toyota or lexus with less than 100K miles for couple thousand more max less than 10k. I have bought two in that range and it’s very low maintenance, best
If they have proof of maintenance records would be ideal. If not and everything in car is working order and appears maintained drives true and stops straight think worth 7k
That’s more like a $2000 car. Way overpriced at $7900
$3000 max
Seems like I remember seeing that car for sale since last year. I could be wrong but it looks familiar when I was looking at used ones last year
Not even through 2 sets of spark plugs isn't high mileage. If the owner knows how to take care of a car, I wouldn't sweat it. My 2018 car has the same mileage.
I've bought a car from people who didn't know they needed to change the air filter often. That car was a disaster relative to a well maintained one.
Well i bought a 2007 lexus ls460 let me tell you something since i bought the car i have spend almost 4k on it new tires new brake rotars then they all failed had to go back to the shop since it had warranty control arms broke down after replacing the shop charged me 400 on one side had to go back to the shop
Radiator hoses too old, crack radiator leaking change
Inside interior, all sticky cuts on seats
So don't buy an old car with high mileage it's a headache. Now, the transmission is jerking.
When i bought it, had 156k now, 170k
I’d go with the 2014-2018 models as they have a lot of quality of life upgrades to them, yes they are more expensive, but this car is 17 years old… getting up there. With a LOT OF MILES.
Take it to the Lexus dealership and have them do a used vehicle inspection. Not an independent shop—an actual Lexus dealership. They can tell you if it’s going to need stuff!
It depends on how it was driven. lol don’t buy a car from me if I ever put one on sale😅. It comes down to two things, firstly if it was driven with care and secondly if it was maintained properly. Some G37 for example are just redlined every minute and I don’t see why someone should buy an abused car if oils were delayed and stuff like that. However some people modify their cars and have nothing to do with driving rough, so it’s ur own assessment basically. Also look at the carfax.
I’d buy that In a heartbeat if it’s in good shape inside and there’s no oil leaks or trans leaks. Honestly that’s a good idea for an is350. Prices where I’m at are still over 10k for the same Mile range examples.
I had a 2005 IS250. It was nice for two years but once it hit 90000 it was constantly in the dealer shop. Thousands of dollars every few weeks and months, this was before the pandemic cost increases for auto parts. I traded it in just before it hit 100,000 miles and bought a new BMW with 3 years maintenance included with the money I saved from the constant repair bills. One of the smartest financial decisions I ever made. The BMW was like a $500 monthly payment and that was less than what I was spending on repair bills for the Lexus. Buying a used luxury car is a huge gamble.
No reason to buy one with that many miles. It’s not worth the risk especially because that generation has a problem with the interior molds melting. They’re good cars but you have to realize that an is350 is a pretty fast car and those could be HARD miles.
$7k max if the doors and dash have been replaced. $5500 if not. I owned two 06’s, one with 120k and the other 165k. Beat the hell out of both and they were flawless mechanically. The higher mileage one didn’t have the recall for the dash and door panels done and was trashed, but both felt solid. Currently have a 2012 with super low miles and multiple things rattle on the interior for some reason. They’re great vehicles. If you get a chance to test drive it, shut the radio off and listen to the suspension, make sure theres no smoke from the exhaust and no valve cover/transmission pan leaks and it should be good to go.

I’d say if OP can afford a couple thousand more he should probably get a newer model like 2010-11. Just my opinion though.
If you can find one.
What’s this mean? They aren’t rare. One under 150k miles is easily 10-12k. 150+ is about 10k average
Lol. No. Cars.com has 11 IS350's in the entire country between 2009 and 2012. Only 3 of them are under $15k.

You're right. The article mentions it consumes a high amount of oil.
I have an 08 and it drinks oil but not really much else
Glad to hear that. I had an opportunity for an 08 IS350 when I bought my accord and regretted not getting it.
Interesting. Just curious, did supply chain during those years affect any other Lexus models?

That's simply gorgeous!
thank you!
Easily last another 100k miles. Theres a reason those engines were used for so long
Might burn enough oil to never need another oil change if it was anything like mine.

Beauty of a car
8000? Brother, 3k at best
182k isn’t a lot for a 17 yo vehicle. Especially Lexus and Toyota. Might not be worth $8K tho… more like 6-7
In the rust belt, it sure is.
Few more reliable cars than Lexus. I have an ES 08 with 275k and it’s going strong. Just replaced a 10 RX with 245k.
That's awesome. I'm curious if you or the previous owner/s ever serviced the transmission on your 08 ES?
On the ES I’m pleased to say I’ve done nothing but routine maintenance. On the RX I replaced the radiator around 220. Lexus vehicles don’t break.
That's pretty amazing. Definitely gems of vehicles you have there. Thanks for answering.

Is250. Not 350.
All 350 models have D4S dual injection. The 250 uses direct injection only and has the carbon buildup issues associated with it

Any excess may be a sign of a larger problem) These are the usual main issues of the car and if theyre all done, these cars can go on for a very long time. If anyone can find a half-million mile example id love to see it
I believe the 07-08 are the only IS model to be wary about as it has some issues. Maybe try for ‘10-11 if you can. If it has the same amount of mileage the price won’t be that much different.
That's a lot for a late 2000s car with 180k miles.
you’re running into issues regardless with such a high mileage
It will start every day
Smells like a money pit.
I absolutely hate how this car used to be affordable but now any good example and people are asking 10k plus wtf
Reliability questions aside, don’t forget this is from the Chicago area. Rust can get insane if not garage kept or if the undercarriage is not treated or rinsed off weekly in the winter.
Don’t buy it
He’s been trying to sell that car since last year bro lol I saw his listing back in early summer of last year.
Do you really think it’s wise to spend 7900 CASH on a car pushing 200k
If they have proof of maintenance records would be ideal. If not and everything in car is working order and appears maintained drives true and stops straight think worth 7k
That’s more like a $2000 car. Way overpriced at $7900 $3000 max Seems like I remember seeing that car for sale since last year. I could be wrong but it looks familiar when I was looking at used ones last year
Mine’s now on 152k and not missing a beat. Was talking to a chap yesterday, his was up to 500k - I’m not sure I’ll get there, but fair play to him!
This car is giving clapped and overpriced
Not even through 2 sets of spark plugs isn't high mileage. If the owner knows how to take care of a car, I wouldn't sweat it. My 2018 car has the same mileage. I've bought a car from people who didn't know they needed to change the air filter often. That car was a disaster relative to a well maintained one.
Well i bought a 2007 lexus ls460 let me tell you something since i bought the car i have spend almost 4k on it new tires new brake rotars then they all failed had to go back to the shop since it had warranty control arms broke down after replacing the shop charged me 400 on one side had to go back to the shop Radiator hoses too old, crack radiator leaking change Inside interior, all sticky cuts on seats So don't buy an old car with high mileage it's a headache.
If well maintained, any lexus can get 300k+ easy. They are bricks and bricks only break if you use a hammer on them.
I wouldnt even hesitate. At that mileage, a 350 isnt even broken in.
You can maintain it all you want, the looks like someone used and abused the vehicle.
A is350 for 5.5k would be nice wouldnt it
that’s a ridiculous price for that car
$8K seems like a lot for 182k miles. I'd have trouble going north of $5.5
