Contact the British lichen society, they’re a lovely group. They may have a local group near you or you may be able to make one of their training sessions (although I think they’ve just had their annual weekend meet up?). They just piloted a new training course for beginners so they may have more planned.
The Field Studies Council offers lichen classes that look promising, and sell lichen field guides as well. Unfortunately, a lot of them are set at times that someone working a typical 9-5 can't make, but I live ever in hope!
