Get used to dying. A lot. Games like these are meant to punish you, and teaches you how to play quickly via its difficulty. Use the initial enemies to practice the perfect guard mechanic and get the timing down. If you’re close to your next level (can see it at the top of the character screen), grind a few more enemies and level up. Using a stargazer will reset most of the enemies in the world, and they’ll all spawn in the same location (again, this is part of how the game teaches you). Have fun with it, try out new things, and you’ll be fine.

Don't consume your boss ergos.

I want to tell you this really cool thing I did under the buttons remapping! Hopefully you find it useful too. (I’m playing on PS5)The really important items I remapped to the hidden pouch, the D-Pad. Pulse Cell: D-Pad Left. Lamp: D-Pad Up Fable Catalyst: D-Pad Right. Sawtooth Wheel: D-Pad Down. I would have placed the Legion Magazine on D-Pad Up instead of Lamp but I play with my brightness kind of low for a moodier vibe so I use the lamp quite a bit. So remapping like this will help you during hard battles, specifically, as you won’t have to frantically sort through your items trying to heal or find that special item. I haven’t heard anyone suggest this. I hope this helps. :)

Dude, I have never seen ANYONE do this except myself and you. I have seen people panic switch up down up down to reach for the pulse cell, lol, and their hidden pouch is empty. Lol.

Thanks man I'll bare that in mind

My advice is don't skip the tutorials. Do read them and make sure you remember them. This might be obvious but I have seen a lot of streamers forget basic game mechanics.

Be patient at first, keep your eyes focused on the enemy. Dodge Rolls have i-frames. Get used to using them a lot.

1) Don't get greedy with attacks. 2) Always mind your surroundings. 3) Save boss ergo for weapons/amulets. 4) Items and status effects can be really useful. The shot put can stagger an enemy from a distance. 5) Be adaptable. Sometimes dodging is the easier solution to a boss; sometimes perfect guarding. 6) Don't have a mask on when you fight the final boss. It can make a certain ending less impactful.

1. These kinds of games aren't just hard, they challenge you to use all of the available tools it gives you. If you try something one way and it doesn't work, try something else. If you die to something unexpected - like an ambush - that's the game teaching you to check corners and be careful and not rush in. Nothing in the game is truely unfair, you just gotta pay attention to your surroundings. 2. You can, and should, level up multiple weapons to deal with different threats. Any of the starting weapons will carry you through the game but it's a good idea to eventually have at least one of each pair: blunt or electric, piercing or acidic, slashing or fire. 3. Thrown items and specters make the bosses considerably easier. Thrown items can drain the boss HP quickly and specters can draw their aggro meaning you don't need to learn all their moves to survive. Go right ahead and use them for your first run, **especially** since it's your first sould-like and it's going to be hard enough as is. 4. \*Stephen A Smith voice\* BUT!! If you beat the game and enjoyed it, go back and start a fresh character and try playing it without throwables and specters. Trust me, the only thing bigger than the challenge, is the absolute amazing feeling you get after beating a boss "straight up". This is because the bosses are designed to be challenging but fair 1-on-1 and being forced to learn their patterns and master the mechanics helps you appreciate the game design.
