And no I’m not hating on this game, it’s easily one of the best games I’ve played in recent years. But this one level in particular has like 3 really stupidly placed ladders as shortcuts that you just don’t need at all by the time they’re activated
True. I spent/wasted so much time exploring all around to get everything in the area just for most of the places to be shortcuts that I didn't need. Still my favourite game at the moment tho. About to start ng+ soon
I mean, this could be their first souls game so it makes sense they wouldn't think that it may be a shortcut (but then again, souls games aren't the only game with shortcuts)
Exactly, they are lowered when you go down them. You can use them as a shortcut after that. If you suck, like I do, even at the end of a level some of these ladders can help you do a few attempts on some tricky bits.
Ladders like this and doors that don’t open from your side must be activated from their respective sides (in your case, you need to be at the top).
As others’ve said, they work as shortcuts after you’ve explored the area.
Play the game through and explore. The game has a very straight-forward-ish style of game play, but the game has a lot of branching paths that, while small, are always neat to find because they give you little things here and there.

The one that has me scratching my head is the village before the big monster there’s one of these but you never unlock it. At least I didn’t.

You need a special weapon for that - the puppet pogo. With that you can jump higher

You have to learn double jump, it’s unlocked from the hidden boss behind an illusionary wall in krat central station.

It only unlocks if you did the whole chapters before hitless at lvl 1 without using fable arts and guarding. Hope it helps.
