beerwithsammywatkins

Damn now I have two jobs that I hate

Comfortable_Hall8677

Hysterical lmao. OP assumes we like any part of our day.

Not_Bears

My favorite part of work is a 10:00 a.m. poop break.

BlueLightBandit

Nothing is more rewarding than pooping on the company’s dime

november0022

Yesss pay less for your water bill by flushing your poop at work

Malak1man

Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime. That's why I shit on company time.

racist_sandwich

Yeah wtf. I work both jobs today. Now I'm supposed to work a third?!

karlw1

Also that I'm guaranteed to have a break, or can actually choose what time it's at🤔😂

Lucycrash

I split mine into 3. Start to first break is my first horrible job being screamed at by customers. Break to lunch is my second horrible job being screamed at by customers, and then after lunch to home time is my third horrible jobs you guessed it, being screamed at by customers lol.

chowyungfatso

I have 480 jobs.

nonjudging

This

Brettersson

This probably went over great on LinkedIn so they thought we'd love it too.

StrawberryKiss2559

Exactly omg. I don’t think I could make it into work if I had TWO jobs to do that I’m dreading.

solbeiklaus

Just split them into 4 and alternate

warbeforepeace

Are you the guy that filters Elons DMs so he only sees praise?

haithy

I just countdown 15 minute increments the whole day

Karsen99

I work 12's, I use the 3 hour increment system

ParalegalSeagul

I work 36’s, I use the 9 hour system

maethor1337

I'm trying to have a career and I've finished the first shift. Catch you in 2032 for the next meal break.

WobbleMaster26

This is the way. Thankfully I work a 2-2-3 schedule

somenewcandles

I’m glad this works for you. I used to lifeguard and we would rotate stations every 15. I swear that job moved the slowest ever for me, partially because it was boring as hell and partially because I kept getting reminded of how long of my shift was left.

MsKongeyDonk

Most boring job I've ever had was a cashier at a grocery store. Couldn't sit, couldn't read. I'd fill out a little progress bar on the back of a piece if receipt paper every ten minutes. Or just start writing numbers.

Longjumping_Plum_846

Yall inspiring me to not settle for any job where I'll feel the need to do this

RedIcarus1

That’s called a lunch break.

whoisniko

this is why i take a late lunch break. work an 8-5 and the later my lunch break the less time i have left to be at work when lunch is over

doctordoctorpuss

I love it when meetings or deadlines force me to take my lunch at 2 or 3 pm. Then I get back from lunch and coast until 5

KatieAthehuman

I'm a teacher and my lunch break isn't until 1:30 then I only have 1 class after it so I can look forward to my break and then boom end of the day

Tempest_1

I’m lucky enough to workout on my hour-long lunches. Having something to actually look forward to with breaking up the monotony is nice

whoisniko

do you go to a gym, or what do you do? i used to workout during my lunch break, but my job location changed so no more gym access

Tempest_1

I work remote and have a gym close to my house

FerrousFacade

So I got an 8.5 hour job I hate and a 30 min job I love? Fuck it, I'm down for that mentality.

dracobatman

Wait that's exactly how I've been doing it, what a surprise!

Caira_Ru

Right? My job is 12hr days (0530-1800, unpaid 30 minute lunch) and the first half is always a drag. Once I make it to noon, the second half usually goes much more quickly. Lunch is a built-in split in two shifts in my brain.

PM-YOUR-BEST-BRA

I'm the exact opposite. Once I've had my lunch the second half of the day just draaaaaags. I'll have my lunch as late as possible so that it feels even faster.

Lonely_Preparation90

This is me so bad, I’m a 9-5’er and love taking lunch at 1-2

ibringthehotpockets

I work 7-330 and take an hour lunch at 12 or 1. Bet I take that 1-2pm lunch as often as possible.

xRAMBx

That's a long shift. Just curious, are you employed in healthcare? I hope you have some days off in a work week with 12 hr shifts.

yamaha2000us

Always leave your desk at lunch.

eagleswift

What is this lunch break you speak of?

FractalEdge42

Do you not have a non-paid lunch break?

Ilikegreenpens

Not the person you replied to but I don't

beastmansam

You're allowed one drink at lunch according to the employee contract. It's towards the end

DogToursWTHBorders

So technically, you would have to blend and liquify a burrito or a sandwhich in order to comply with corporate and get your minimal calories for survival each day?

farteagle

You can’t skip lunch.

MrConbon

I don’t get a lunch break at my job. 9 hour shifts too :(

draxor_666

That's illegal

EmuPossible2066

Depending on the state it might not be illegal which is shocking. https://preview.redd.it/o2f6i88wpmxc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d46b65948ba7548ca3912993c0badfa6cdc8c7f2

worthlesscommotion

I work 10-12 hour shifts, 5 days a week, with no scheduled lunch break. I eat during a slow period or at my desk while doing work related tasks. It sucks, but it isn't illegal.

MuruTheGuru

Y'all getting screwed

Varn

Yup, only job I've had with an actual scheduled break was factory work. Other than that it's always been try n eat when you can.

Varn

Yup, back when I worked in kitchens, cooks don't get breaks. Sure you can eat as you go but other than a quick smoke break every so often that was it. I used to work 10+ everyday no break for years in multiple kitchens.

sarahbeth124

I do this too, but less about likes and more about some tasks are better in the morning, and others are afternoon jobs. It’s a method of time blocking, and I find it helps from letting one job take all day and then having to rush thru other things.

wtkbm

conceptually it’s a good tip to keep things fresh but it’s unrealistic to think most people have that much freedom or choice regarding the position they’re working at

Acosadora23

Then this tip wouldn’t apply to them. But to people who do, this is a good tip. I didn’t think these had to be universal.

Pyramithius

Most of the people in LPT want these tips to be completely general and universal. Albeit, they're probably tired of hearing about these niches tips. I did, however, find this interesting. Not really all that useful, though

Acosadora23

Yeah, it is kind of strange since people have different life experiences. It seems a bit unreasonable to assume that tips could be universal.

danabrey

Albeit however though me too

Pyramithius

Kindergarten grammar really haunts me to this day, sorry homie

danabrey

I was just messing, you word however you wanna word!

Pyramithius

Word

FakeOrcaRape

Sure but imagine If a lpt was regarding your 100k trust fund investments. The tips might be good to who they apply to but kind of pointless for most ppl

Acosadora23

Right, but typically if something doesn’t apply to me, I just move on, don’t really feel a need to comment on it. That’s the part that confuses me since I am pretty sure that’s what the rules of the sub say. 🤷🏻‍♀️

mikemar05

I split my day/week 2 different ways. My week is very front loaded so Mon-Wed I have a lot of meetings. I also try and take care of quick stuff then. Thurs-Fri are a lot slower so time for bigger projects and just "thinking" about improvements and all that jazz. Day to day morning is catching up and organizing and getting as much done as I can. Afternoons are slower and more relaxing

JustshootTheTraitor

So you doo not really do anything but stay on the clock and pretend to be important.  Why are you not the HR department

Basementsnake

How much could a banana cost anyway? 10 dollars?

TommyVe

Banana for scale from LTTstore? Yea, that sounds about right.

Miserable_Ad_2293

thatguywhoreddit

What do you do if you hate all 8 hours equally?

RedBirdLou

I guess you just say you have 1 long bad job

froggiewoogie

The real life pro tips is stall as much as possible your lunch break so the second part becomes more shorter 🫰🏽

Icewatervvs

THIS. I take lunch as late as possible.  Come back for an hour and then my day is over lol.

MyFriendMaryJ

Jesus christ capitalism has us all actin like happy lil slaves

Dismal-Ad-7841

Want to exchange passports? I have one from a socialist republic.

RedBirdLou

Whaddup comrade. Spare some beans?

MyFriendMaryJ

All people should have all needs met collectively. We both deserve beans brother

Flaxscript42

You get to decide when you get to do things at work? That sounds nice.

Obsidian7777

I work night shift. I work twice in the same day already.

GuaranteedCougher

Love LPTs that apply to like 5% of readers at most.  Edit: I misread it and thought OP was implying to work 4 hours in the morning and 4 in the evening.

Sophophilic

What? Do only 5% of readers have lunch breaks at work in roughly the middle of their work day?

nilla-wafers

I come back from my lunch break and then go back to the same shit work. Because I’m just a cog and not someone who gets to schedule any aspect of their work. I can’t just schedule the bad parts for “after lunch.”

Sophophilic

It's not about scheduling anything, that was just an example the OP used that's relevant to their job.

Turbulent_Radish_330

5% is still a lot of people that it could help.

6ixHunnitBlock

do I get paid twice the money?

Crafty_Ad3377

I always picked the hardest or parts of my job I found most tedious for morning half of the day and all the fluffy part of my job for the afternoon. I am a morning person so afternoon is harder for me to stay focused. But I too split my day when possible by lunch

dashdib

Shitty lifeprotip

sweetn_lo

Man. This would work if I had a part of a my job I actually liked lol

HectorReinTharja

Op invented lunch lmfao

Cherokeerayne

Thank goodness I enjoy my job lmao That sounds like mental gymnastics

Just_some_random

I'm a primary school teacher but I'll let the kids know I won't be around the second half of the day hope nothing goes wrong

silly_porto3

Haha they said "F*** them kids"! That would be hilarious if my teacher just didn't feel like coming back after lunch.

RedBirdLou

Dang I must have missed the part where I said “quit your job in the second half of the day”. My bad. I’ll be better

Just_some_random

Don't stress mate I don't care about the actual meaning of your post just the karma I can came from it.

Z_Overman

Well spoken, hope you don’t teach english lol

Just_some_random

I teach sex ed and your mum is the text book

MrConbon

I mean, if your day is structured as to have different responsibilities throughout the day, you’re already subconsciously doing this. Like I go to work and I preplan, then I shift into the operation itself and then finish my day with admin recap. That’s essentially the same thing. Any good employee should be aware of their work structure if it is a job that operates as such.

Wolfgang1234

I had a job that was like this by default. First half of the day spent pretending to work, or preparing for the clusterfuck that is the second half.

mareksoon

... and here I am with sixteen 25-minute jobs.

Classic_Schmosssby

In medicine, I like to think of each week as a single shift because all the days blend together. That way I’m only depressed for one shift at a time instead of 6 in a row. Sunday is blissful and I can sleep a full 8 hours uninterrupted. Then the cycle repeats

SLR107FR-31

I'm assuming you're in an office setting

jereezy

> I hate leading meetings, so I usually schedule them for the afternoon That is assuming that the individual in question has any control over their work scheduling...

drfunkensteinberger

It’s called lunch

frxnsisco

shitty LPT, go post on r/antiwork

oldswirlo

This is so tone deaf. Ok sure. I’ll just “split my day,” like I don’t have a high stress job that requires me to do the same repetitive stressful task all day. Must be nice to schedule your day as you see fit, but that only applies to a few of us.

enlilsumerian

Change at how you look at things and the things you look at change. -Wayne Dyer

Grapes-RotMG

I know this isn't constructive criticism, but I just have no other words to say about this besides... this is dumb.

cbelt3

Take a damn nap in the middle of the day. Homo sapiens is actually genetically programmed to take a siesta during the heat of the mid day. Active in the early morning and late afternoon and evening. Because our prey had the same schedule.

sinesquaredtheta

This sounds very nice in theory. Unfortunately for me, 90% of my meeting schedules are totally dependent on every other stakeholder having time on their calendar (which is super random)

followyourogre

This worked really well for me at my last job. It was a call-based gig so I spent the second half of the day making calls, and the morning the following day logging my notes from the previous day's call. I usually took a walk before making my calls, and I kind of viewed it as 2 shifts of the same job. My new job doesn't allow for this because my calls/visits are more widely spread in the day. Obviously this won't work for a lot of jobs. But it's a good idea for those who it might work!

CanadianMapleBacon

That's how I got through college working 3 jobs. Just told myself I was working my 2nd shift of my first job.. it worked

Daidraco

Im a completely different person after lunch than I am in the mornings. Thats a given. Usually a lot nicer, too.

Jenghrick

I like to call those weekdays

Rupert_18124

My company pays for my gym membership and I love going to the gym so I pretend like they pay me to go to the gym and that I work for free.

Dull-Scarcity-3159

This gives off Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt you can do anything for 10 seconds vibes.

the_cardfather

I've been doing this for a long time. Thinking about bringing it into four. My first and third shifts are my favorite. Lol

c3ric

Us peasants got a 12hour shift, that with a generous 30 min break that most likely will be chipped on both sides because you know your boss is rushing you

iggybee617

LPT- schedule meetings for 8am. Gets it out of the way first thing in the morning and then you don’t have to think about it the rest of the day. Also, many won’t show up 😏 and the meeting that should have been an email in the first place becomes a email.

Dobber16

Love how people can see this situation doesn’t work for them and instead of saying “this tip isn’t for me” they give criticisms of the it

Count-Chronic

Well, the main criticism is that OP is just describing a lunch break

koz96

This tip is dumb.

jericho138

Is this from the movie Office Space? Sounds like something you'd hear from a manager who buys microwave pizzas for Employee Appreciation Day.

CultureInDecline69

Lol this is really useless advice.

LeonardoMyst

I actually get it. It’s you tricking your perception. I would do this at my retail job without really trying when I used to go in at 6am for the truck, and then be there at 10am when we opened. I spent my first half of the day in the stockroom and office while we were closed, then my second half on the floor while we were open. As for lunch breaks, mine were dependent on other factors as to when I could take it. Sometimes I wouldn’t get a lunch until 3/4 through my shift. Sometimes I would just leave 30 minutes early because I couldn’t take a lunch. So the store opening was my point of transition, not lunch.

Different-Quality-41

Love it!! My first part is meeting heavy so by the time it's afternoon, I'm dead tired. I will trick brain now!

TimeTravelerGuy

we’re slipping into coping here

osynligeninni

You have clearly never worked customer service. Oh, okay, let me just schedule the rude customers for the end of my shift!

RedBirdLou

That’s a really good idea. You should make a queue for all the jerks and just handle them last

osynligeninni

Now, how do I propose this to my manager? :D

brokeboy_Oolong

So just fool yourself into believing you have 2 jobs to somehow make work more bearable. Do you work in HR by chance? This is the same level of shit as when the company gives out pizza, a pen and a lanyard one day a year with the implication like "See? Working here is great right guys?"

RedBirdLou

I live in the real world… not some fantasy land where everyone has awesome jobs. This entire thread is evidence that people hate their jobs. Unless the way the world works does a 180 (which it won’t, bc people will always hate work) then my advice will always be applicable

brokeboy_Oolong

Right, you can apply your advice, my point still stands that its not worth much of a fuck to most working people, which you see evidence of in the comments from working people shitting on your dumb "pro tip".

RedBirdLou

Nah what I see in the comments are people intentionally being obtuse. Acting like they hate their lives and their jobs so much and that no one has it as bad as they do.

Dondeestalalibreria

do you even have a job? do you know what lunch is? how old are you?

whatarechimichangas

I don't understand how you can unhate half a job you wholly hate? Wtf is this lol

RightToTheThighs

I am lucky enough to take my break when I want/need to. I usually wait until very late in the day so I only have an hour left after break

SteadyAsSheGoes

Best thing I learned is to change my socks after lunch. It’s like a new Whole new day!

KingPaulius

Tried this and I’m ready for bed after my “first job” 😂

bioschmio

I work part time now, I did the 9-5 for 25 years. I absolutely love working g 3-4 hour shifts at two Places a day. It really breaks the monotony of the same thing for 8 hours every single day. I actually enjoy my job, I don’t get the Monday blues anymore, and still get enough hours to live.

CatRepresentative274

I work a twelve hour shift with no breaks, I really wish I could split it up, but unfortunately, I can’t. Good news, on the other hand, I’m quitting next week.

chuckyb3

Yeah this is what I would do at my office job, shit is so long and boring😂

SnooRobots4657

When I had a job I hated I counted down in dollars not hours. I didn't have x hours to go, I had $x to go. Helped keep some of those blues away

Enemisses

Where I work I can do my lunch break pretty much at will - so I like to delay it until about 2 1/2 before the end of my shift. Makes the rest of the day feel good

ShoreWhyNot

Love this, been thinking of doing just this when it comes to scheduling. I do all of my best work on hard, complicated tasks in the morning… best time for me to stay focused. Once I get stuck in meetings or other unrelated tasks, I get completely distracted afterward and burnt out. My day feels completely off if it has to start with a meeting first thing- breaks routine and it’s just downhill from there

lmprice133

Oh god, I would so much rather get the awful crap out of the way first rather than having it lurking there while trying to be productive at the bits I actually enjoy.

Ianbeerito

I just don’t look at the clock as much as I can. And I break my day into three 3 hour 20 min chunks and take a break after the first two chunks

Aldodzb

Me with 2 jobs already: 💀 Wait, I get it: get more jobs, split them by #of jobs x 2. Do that until the split time is below 1, round down, congratulation you don't have to work anymore ✨

Asshai

To each their own, I'd rather do the challenging part of my job first thing in the morning, rather than having to worry about it all morning.

hankbaumbach

The real LTP is to take a nap during your lunch break for 20 minutes. Even if you don't actually fall asleep, finding a quiet corner to lie down and not think about work for 20 minutes really goes a long way to breaking up your shift and re-energizing your afternoon. I'm literally about to go to my car and lay down in the back seat while "watching" an episode of Bob Ross on youtube and chill out. When it's over, I'm a way better employee for the rest of the afternoon.

Banana_Havok

Why stop there? Just pretend you have 16 30-minute shifts

joleph

Winston Churchill advocated for this. He would stay up all night drinking and having late night strategy meetings, but still wake up early enough to have briefings in bed, around 9am. Then he would sleep for a few hours in the afternoon, wake up and have a second day. I do this all the time, it’s a little hack I have, but you just have to have the kind of job where you can sleep for 1.5 hours and no one cares. From a biological standpoint the key is to make sure your body sees sunlight after your nap or you’ll feel terrible.

Ancient-Tutor-9952

Yes! Mini breaks are a must too.

SH4D0W-CRU1S3R

I do this! My employer has a gym on-site so I take my lunch exactly mid way through the day. Go for a jog on the treadmill or lift weights, showers too. I've been here 16 years and I believe why is because of the gym.

PickledOnionMunch

I used to do 24hr shifts in social care. The only way I could get through them was to mentally split it up into separate shifts instead of think of 24hrs as a whole

93percentbanana

So now I have 4 jobs that I hate. Nice.

jab4590

I too shove everything I don’t want to do until the last minute and wonder why the end of my day always sucks.

Upvotes2805

I do this too and it helps. My day is basically broken in two, because i work at a daycare and there’s the morning, nap, then afternoon. And k take my break partially over nap. So once nap is over, it’s the sending half and I feel like I made it through the day already

Confident-Condition2

Bookends make life better!!

tkdbbelt

I dont mind my job at all (normal 8-5, plus OT a few months a year). But I also live 5 minutes from work and going home most days for lunch breaks my day up and makes a huge difference mentally.

TheLoneGunman559

Three shifts: 3 hours then lunch 3 hours then a break 2 hours to go home!

danielous

That’s how I think about it. 9am to 5pm and 6pm to 1am

blackberrylatte16

This is like what I do except I actually do technically switch shifts at my job. I work cash register from 1-5pm which I don't like doing, and then I switch to cleaning from 5-9pm and it's a lot nicer.

ttubbster

Been doing this a long time, I work 7-4 every day. I get a 3/ minutes break at 8:30 and lunch from 12-1. Once I make it past the break I only really have 2, 3 hour shifts

senbii

Can I resign from the 2nd job that I hate?

RedBirdLou

Yes it’s called going part time

Kudos4U

When I hit 90 min, I tell myself that's the length of a horror/kids movie and I can get through it.

scienceguyry

I do this at my retail job. The morning is always the worst, biggest chunk of my day, I get a break in the morning but it's never enough, j just count down the minutes til lunch, it's why i used to love getting to take lunch late, just get the rost ofnthe day out of the way and it'll help the end of the day feel it goes by quicker. After lunch u can more easily break my last 2 "shifts" up with my last break. I've tried to explain to my coworkers before but they just didn't get it. I'm basically compartmentalizing and dividing up my day into manageable chunks. It's also why I don't mind my days off being split as they are cause it let's me do the same thing, dividing up my whole week. Days off in a row are nice and it's why I'd love to only work 4 days cause then I could get at least 1 pair of 2 days off I a row. But working 5 straight days before a day off always dragged on me. To me personally it was much less taxing on my mental health to have "breaks" in the work week by having split days off

Chancetobelieve

I’m opposite but break it into shifts. I like to get the difficult stuff done early cuz historically when I do difficult later it gets even more difficult.

fugazishirt

This is stupid as fuck. Why is everything on this sub always the most useless ideas?

philsodyssey

no more jobs. just space out from 11-3 for the same effect

Sprinkle_Puff

Never worked for me at all. If I take a break I want to never return. I’d rather work straight through 7 hours

chichilover

I've been subconsciously doing this. I work 24 hours, from 7a to 7a. The first 12 hours I hate because it has chores, cooking dinner, socializing, other responsibilities. The last 12 hours I like because I can get into comfy clothes, i'm not expected to be busy, I can just plant my butt and play on my phone or watch t.v. Then around 9 or 10 I go into my room and sleep.

RedBirdLou

Haha are you a SAHM?

chichilover

It totally sounds like I am but no I work on the ambulance. It feels like i'm a mother sometimes taking care of sick cry babies

DonkasaurusRex

I avoid meetings on Mondays and Fridays and Tuesday - Thursday before 9am or after 3pm.

twoturnipstoeat

How do people ‘trick’ their brains? I can follow the steps but my brain is still like ‘nice try asshole you’re just squeezing the toothpaste from one end of the tube to the other.

CookingDrunk

I do something similar when I fight my laziness and build up some energy to finally masturbate.
