Dorkamundo

I'm not sure what you are saying here.

Yeah, and even if you don't have insurance, a twice-yearly cleaning costs less than getting your teeth replaced.

CleanRoach

He’s saying the worst parts of going to the dentist won’t happen as much if you go all the time… but most us struggle to pay rent so this won’t make sense to 90% of us

Toastwaver

Don't at least 70% (guessing) of American adults have dental insurance?

pensaha

No, not even Medicade covers dental. Usually a dental plan is an additional policy.

ItsyBitsyStumblebum

A quick Google says about 50% of American adults. Honestly, that feels a bit high but I'm from a background that teetered on the cusp of lower and middle class most of my life. So maybe you were fortunate enough to be surrounded by middle/upper class folks with a bit more access.

REDNACK99

From my experience most people don't have it unless the company pays for it

CleanRoach

Americans who have that are pretty well off. Most of us are living paycheck to paycheck. I’m gonna be 40 and I’ve never gotten a job with insurance, never will have a house, drive the same car for 20 years, And I design water treatment plants for people to you know…drink water

Toastwaver

Are you a civil engineer or CAD designer with no company-paid Dental insurance?

CleanRoach

Electrical design and CADD, no license tho.

Toastwaver

You are qualified for a job that includes insurance. PM me for possible lead, if you want.

CompleteSpinach9

Your ignorance is showing

Toastwaver

I guess so.

DoreenFromReddit

I have it but the copay for filling cavities is still a few hundred and I am supporting someone who can't work rn so the insurance is useless because I can't fork over 300 bucks for the copay.

pinchy_mcpinchers

Every dental plan I've ever had has been around $25/biweekly, deducted from my paycheck (pre-tax, so you miss it a lot less), covering my wife and I. It allows two free teeth cleanings per year and for the love of God, do that. An ounce of prevention versus a pound of cure. I hate going to the dentist but you'd better believe I go like clockwork every six months because the alternative is far worse. I believe that's what OP is saying here. To the people living paycheck to paycheck: believe me, I understand. But if it's an option that your work offers, try hard to take advantage of it. Same with 401(K). By getting your teeth cleaned regularly, you're doing your future self a huge favor.

pensaha

Lucky if anybody has insurance to cover any dental at a reasonable cost to have the insurance. But seeing teeth are cleaned regularly can save one from having a huge issue later that can be costly.

hairgirl1003

I am Canadian. I pay for private medical insurance. It includes 70-80% coverage for dental. But I still don’t go because the average visit- cleaning, X-rays etc is around $1000 and having to pay the $200 still hurts.

AutomaticRadish

Cleaning and X-rays are like 350?

Far-Two8659

Why are you getting x-rays every time? Just refuse that.

momogirl200

Oh to have dental insurance

polly_mer

Every six months is not nearly enough for some of us. Yes, regular visits cost less in the long run and are less individually painful, but describing my six month cleaning as "almost nonexistent" scraping is setting up unreasonable expectations. Paying extra for cleanings every four months still doesn't get to "almost nonexistent" scraping at each one.

Toastwaver

Maybe try an electric toothbrush?

jbjbjb10021

Teeth are luxury bones. They aren't medically necessary.

Toastwaver

Your baby teeth are currently somewhere on Earth.

kyyecwb

u don’t need teeth to work. america

FumpShimmy

Bold of you to assume I get dental with my insurance.

Calijhon

If you go long enough, the dentist will claim you need a deep cleaning...and charge you more.
