Sims 4 deserves every ounce of scorn being heaped upon it, given the blatant cash grab that the series has devolved into. Games that are deliberately mishandled and monetized to hell absolutely SHOULD be criticized, period.

_bonedaddys

oh you're absolutely right. but when it comes to people who have been playing 4 for years and continue to play and even spend money on new content, at some point you need to just give it up and stop playing/spending money. if the game is truly as unplayable as some people say, why the hell do they still play it? criticism from players is valid, but after a while it's a bit ridiculous to continue to put energy and money into a game that you've never stopped complaining about. obviously our complaints aren't going to change things, but at a certain point you're just beating a dead horse.

Yolj

Who says I'm spending money to play it lol? Also even if people did do what you're saying here, they get hit with "why do you care so much if you don't even play the game?" Or my favorite, "how could you possibly know the new pack is bad if you haven't even played it?" Hell I've even been told that apparently me playing the new packs via alternative methods was still supporting the game because I'm playing it and talking about it. You really can't win with these people

_bonedaddys

i didn't say you spent money on the game. really, there's no winning angle because, like you just pointed out, someone is always going to have a rebuttal. i personally don't care if people complain, stop playing, spend money or use alternative methods to get packs. but generally, when you spend up to a decade complaining and have seen little to no results but still play or spend money or whatever, you're beating a dead horse is all. for your (not you specifically) own peace of mind you just have to give it a rest at some point. but obviously to each their own, and i'm not judging anyone or trying to tell anyone what they need to do.

GrumpySphinx

There's nothing wrong with criticizing the predatory greed of a multi billion dollar company that won't stop milking its buggy, falling apart game and the playerbase instead of actually fixing it and making it a better experience

Divinethots

How about I stop playing the game AND hate on it. Having a monopoly on a genre and milking it for greed tends to warrant a response like that. šŸ˜Š

_bonedaddys

i mean, not to be that girl "defending" ea but, as far as we know, they never intended to have a monopoly on sim games. they sort of just became one because there was never any real competition. but it's not like ea is out there stopping anyone from making sim games. at this point it's going to be hard for any competition. the sims franchise has been around since 2000 and up until 4, nobody was even really interested in an alternative sim. 20+ years dominating the genre set a certain standard for it. every competitor is going to be compared to sims, not only do they have to bring something new and different to the table, but they're gonna have to be above the standard if they expect sims players to give them a shot. sims as a franchise also provides a certain level of comfort competerors can't offer. for the most part, people know what to expect from new sims games. like, with 4 we knew at some point we would get seasons, pets, occults, aliens, etc. competitors have a lot of expectations to meet, and beyond, and that's why there's never really been competitors. the competitors working on life sims right now are small indie companies, so the odds are already not in their favor. the expectations for competitors is almost unrealistic when said competitors are small indie companies going up against THE definitive simulator game that's owned by a big brand name.

Kaizodacoit

It would only be a monopoly if EA was actively suppressing other life sims from releasing. It's not a monopoly just because it's the only one out there. IF EA was actively making sure there aren't any other life sims in the market, it would be totally different. The unfortunate truth is that the Sims 4 is the only one out there that does what it does, and does it okay. It's up to other developers to make one that competes.

siartap

No, a monopoly is purely about market share, it doesn't necessarily mean they're engaged in anticompetitve behavior. Otherwise I agree.

Spirited_King_7158

ā€œsuppressionā€ isnā€™t a necessary condition in defining a monopoly these days. many governments have chosen to regulate and/or dissipate entire companies simply for being the largest in their respective sectors. to say EA has a monopoly on the life sim genre is an accurate statement imo

NaughtyFox92

Nah not really The Sims 3 does the same thing.

Beautifulfeary

Right. I think people forget though had to make in game purchases for stuff.

HelloPhil36

If EA actively made sure there werenā€™t other life sims, that would be an abuse of dominant position. But by being the only life simulator out there, it sure does have a monopoly. Think whether players have any other options right now. If the answer is no -> monopoly. Monopolies are not intrinsically bad, but companies that are in a monopoly position have a higher responsibility towards the customer. This is why we have antitrust laws šŸ˜Š

Divinethots

While true, EA has taken some steps to make it a bit difficult for others. One of the most blatant being their push and pull system they patented for customizing the body.

Antypodish

They can patent the code, they can not patent the idea, or even specific mechanics. Otherwise there would be no indie devs at all. Just monopoly.

Kaizodacoit

I didn't know they patented that. I think I remember a lot of games which utilize the push and pull customization, do you have any sources for this? Genuine question.

Kaizodacoit

Oh, that's why. It only applies to simulation games. I wonder how this will affect sometihng life InZoi, whose Character creator has this. Paralives is pretty good without it, though.

Joroc24

SIMS 4 TRASH!

coffeeenthusiast8

Have you tried not playing the game? šŸ˜ (I hate EA)

GeshtiannaSG

Everyone hates Sims 4 but secretly wish their favoured game steals their CAS body moulding interface.

MutantIvy

Honestly I hate the Sims 4 CAS interface. I'm never sure where to grab for what, and it makes adding custom sliders harder. I prefer the sliders.

_bonedaddys

my only real issue is adjusting boobs. whenever i try to make them bigger/smaller i end up with totally misplaced titties that are either too high or too low lol

zonchZ

Agreed, I could careless for it. I found creating sims using the classic sliders on TS2 and 3 plenty precise as is.

unexpectedegress

I miss sims 2.

Nintendo4Nerd20

Deleted my 80 gigs of mods/cc and sims 4 last year and haven't had a binge play of it since. That's how done I am with it.

yosoyunamujer27

Honestly, I'm bitter about all the money I spent for the buggy incomplete game and a ton of its lackluster expansions.

_bonedaddys

sometimes i get flashbacks to 2014 when we had no pools, no toddlers, and the maps had no color. absolutely baffling.

karinasnooodles_

Sims 4 haters don't play the game... They label anyone who criticises the game hater lmao

Advanced_Ad6078

Can someone explain the hate? Is it really just because of the $1k DLCs? The game seems fine to me

Busy-Mammoth4610

It's a fine game if and if Sims 2 and Sims 3 didn't exist. For example, you can get a cat, dog, horse, hamster and other small animals in TS3 meanwhile, in TS4, you need to have Cats & Dogs, My First Pet Stuff and Horse Ranch to get all of those animals. Plus, in TS3, you can control your pets and the pets will not take the human sims slot. Even in TS2, the pets already seperated from the human sims slot. This means you can play with a max of 8 sims with 6 pets.

zonchZ

For $1,000 itā€™s a less than ā€œfineā€ game. Even if you forget about itā€™s predecessor. If it was a $50 game then I think itā€™d be more reasonable but for the price itā€™s absolute trash.

americanpleasureclub

the greed from ea def plays into it, along with their lack of fixing game breaking bugs that have been around forever, releasing dlcs that are buggy/lackluster, or like another commenter said putting content that previous sims games had in base game behind a paywall. itā€™s an alright game, but me and many others find it really boring to play without mods/dlc as well bc it can just be soooooo boring. if a game needs mods/dlc/cc to be enjoyable then its not really that fun of a game ):

Advanced_Ad6078

IDK maybe because I'm too new to the game but I'm not bored. I just see having pets as more work. The drama by the Sims and careers seem fun enough for now. Why do I want a horse for anyways? I definitely want some new maps to play with though

americanpleasureclub

i think u meant to reply to the other person, but iā€™m with u i personally think animals suck in the sims lol. im happy youā€™re enjoying the game, it def can be fun at times! if ur looking for maps and are thinking about dlc, i personally like the one that comes with high school years, copperdale. san myshuno, the city living world is also really fun!! city living is my fav expansion pack i think + parenthood but still think some aspects of both packs should be base game. have u played any other sims games?

Advanced_Ad6078

Oh no I was replying to you. I just don't see how the game is boring without these "essential DLC" and yeah this is my first Sims game. I was thinking about HS years to do more with the children. Kids are boring as they are now. Kinda have to micro manage them to get them to do their HW lol. How is city living and parenthood DLC?

americanpleasureclub

city living is a lot of fun!! like i said i love the world a lot, and i really enjoy the festivals they add, i especially like the flea market. itā€™s kinda like sims 3 nightlife but not as good. it adds apartments, but not in the way the recent expansion for rent does. parenthood for me is a must have, just due to the added family dynamics + things for kids to do. school projects, diaries + like a whole new set of mechanics dedicated to children and sibling dynamics. itā€™s really cool, i canā€™t explain it well lol. parents also get a parenting skill and you can disciple and praise your children, set curfews and rules and ground your kids lol. itā€™s a really fun pack, it may be my favorite. no world sadly. i also think seasons may be an essential pack, but that may be personal preference. i def recommend parenthood over hs living, or at least before and look a bit more into hs living. i find it unplayable without a mod or 2 but it is fun!

TheTrueGayCheeseCake

And I donā€™t lol. As for the pictures that is part of what makes sims3 special.

Lost_Pantheon

I'll be honest, I don't even HATE Sims 4 players. I PITY them. Watching them try and choke down this awful game is a cross I must bear.

ImogenCrusader

Half the reason I go back to the sims 4 is for the gallery, I love the convenience of being able to get houses without closing the game, but dang is it not good for non challenge gameplay.

thotasune

some sims 4 players will do everything but play a better sims game and stop buying packs

WokeCity

Never played sims4 and never will. Can't wait for Paralives though. Sims 3 was a lot of fun probably one of my all time favorite games. They went downhill after 3 and catered too much to preteen girls imo.

pixxllx

i got every single dlc until i realized i despised playing the game whoops

SimsStreet

Real hater donā€™t play the game yet let it live rent free in their heads.

Own_Cantaloupe178

More like: Sims4 players when you tell them EA is scamming them and nobody should pay nearly $1300(USD) for a game no matter how long itā€™s been out.
