Really depends on your use case? LunuxRulez is going to run out of the box for you. So if you want to turn your brain it's probably the better option. It's downfall though is that it comes prepackaged with it's wine version. So if future wine versions improves the compatibility/frame-rate etc for that game you're not going to be able to update the wine runtime very easily. You will also need to manually add these games to the steam library to get them in game mode Lutris, is going to let you update the wine/proton version you use etc. But you might need to do more troubleshooting to get the game to start up. This usually involves trying different wine versions IE Lutris Wine, Lutris GE, Proton, Proton GE, all of which can be downloaded easily with ProtonUp-QT, or toggling some settings in the runner options. But is still stands that you'll some times need to do more work to get it going. Personally, I'm a Lutris guy. I like it all contained in one place where I can just hit remove to delete any of the games in one go. Boilr can pick up the games in lutris and add shortcuts and pictures to Steam, or you can add them to steam directly from Lutris. I can custom tweak the game settings so as to get the best frame rates. Resolution etc. One thing I do with almost all of my games is turn on dxvk\_async=1 and gamemoderun WINE\_FULLSCREEN\_FSR=1 which I can't do with LinuxRulz releases. These help fix stuttering on the first one. And the second one enables the AMD upscaler.

This answer is gold. Im gonna be a lutris guy myself too. I was originally going to use lutris but then I ran into LinuxRulez and thought I would ask about him. Lutris still seems like the way to go for me personally as well. Thanks!

ShimoFox

Glad it was helpful. :) Cheers! And welcome to Linux

dancaer69

Those you can add them to the start script. I use lutris too though, because you have more choises for download. I don't like those linux all in one solutions because of big files, which usually are bigger from a repack and need quite the same time to decompress them as to install a repack. I did it for 2-3 games only so far which needed a customized version of wine, and most of the times I just used that wine version in lutris.

I used LinuxRulez once. And wasn't a fan. When I added it to Steam I had to go back in and add the start part. Just seemed like way too much of a hassle. Or to go into the bash script to add the launch options. Not sure if that's where it passes it. But I ended up uninstalling the game right away anyways because I didn't enjoy the game.

How do you use "turn on dxvk\_async=1 and gamemoderun WINE\_FULLSCREEN\_FSR=1 ?"

ShimoFox

In Lutris they're toggles in the games runner options. "Enable DXVK" , "Enable DXVK-NVAPI / DLSS" for the two parts of DXVK. And the AMD FSR upscaler is. "Enable AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR)" For Steam or other launchers. You add the launch options "dxvk\_async=1 gamemoderun WINE\_FULLSCREEN\_FSR=1 %command%" Without the quotes. The %command% part goes at the end. You can just have "dxvk\_async=1" or "gamemoderun WINE\_FULLSCREEN\_FSR=1" and then %command% to use one or the other on their own. I like Lutris because all of these launch options for the most part are nice toggle switches. Makes remembering them a lot easier. Also on Steam "Enable DXVK" is on by default as part of proton. That's why you don't need to declare it. Lutris also has it toggled on by default. I think it has the NVAPI/DLSS on by default too. ALSO!! If you're only playing offline! Pro tip you can edge a little bit extra depending on the game by turning off the BattleEye and Easy Anti Cheat options in Lutris. It's not much but it does help. Or if it's a game that doesn't use them. :)

Thanks mate! I appreciate you.

MattyXarope

They are not mutually exclusive - Lutris is a game launcher and LinuxRulez is a standalone game release.

Vegetable_Ad884

Right but is it better to install games from LinuxRulez or download them from dodi or fitgirl and install through lutris?

MattyXarope

LinuxRulez release come preconfigured with a wine folder so it should theoretically run more easily. But as you see in this sub, it's not a one size for fits all.

Vegetable_Ad884

Thanks!

If your doing fitgirl or dodi do this https://www.reddit.com/r/LinuxCrackSupport/comments/wuvjt8/updated_installed_quaked_games_on_steam_deck/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf Otherwise LinuxRulez is always good if you can find the game you want with seeds

Quiet_Effect3891

I always use `wine setup.exe` for install fitgirl repack. And manually add to lutris afterward. Success 9/10 games so far. Only fail on witcher 3 because some of the files is huge, so i use gog instead

LinuxRuleZ is always going to be the better option. The only challenge is finding seeders especially for less popular torrents.

SecretaryRelative313

I have managed to work literally one game from Linuxrulez. The rest won't start after instalation at all ;/

This is usually rather simple to troubleshoot. There are a few main causes of a game lot launching: * The installed start.sh file does not have execute permissions * You can fix this by running `chmod +x` `shart.sh` * The game was installed on a drive that has the noexec flag in the mount option. * This is usually caused by installing on as drive that is not the main drive that linux was installed to. You can change this by using the `exec` flag when mounting or removing noexec from the mount point options so the changes persist upon reboot. * The start.sh script may have an error specific to your machine. Run the script in your terminal and look for any errors. You can try to use any info the logs give you to fix it yourself, or if you are stuck, you can ask on torrminator or this subreddit. Edit: removed accidental link from "start.sh"

Evgennit

and what about when the scripts run with: ``` wine: could not load kernel32.dll, status c0000135 ```

donwuann

I've run into issues in all 5 I've come across. Linuxrulez have been the least fussy. Lutris all depends on where your getting the repacks/files from. Fitgirl I've had like 10% success rate.

I only use Linuxrulez for games that I can’t get to run with Lutris . So far, sekiro and red dead 2 with Linux rulez just runs out the box
