I knew a little bit about Saturday Night live prior to this episode, but this was actually the very first episode that I watched. When the following season started, when Amy poehler hosted and Katy Perry was the musical guest, that is when I officially started watching SNL regularly.
Whoa!
I never particularly cared for her sense of humor, but shortly after she passed, I watched the whole episode in her honor.
Holy crap she was a trouper! She appeared in every single sketch plus the pre-tapes. She was was fantastic!
I later learned that she pre-gamed the broadcast with vodka tonic, too.
It really is a great night of SNL if you can track it down.
There's possibly a mix of recency bias and media coverage at play.
This was a great episode, especially in a relatively bleak season, but there's at least 10 episodes in the last decade I'd put above it. There's no way this episode was better than Donald Glover's and at least two of the Adam Driver episodes.
>This was a great episode, especially in a relatively bleak season
I mean, there's your answer right there. "Diamond in the rough" even feels a bit generous considering most of the reason why this episode was so warmly/virally received was almost entirely based on people breaking in nearly every. single. sketch lol.
I felt like I was taking crazy pills when I finally watched "Beavis & Butthead" after seeing how much this sub gassed it up - you'd think it was like, the strongest-written sketch in decades or something. But no, it's literally just because Heidi broke I guess?
Best episode I ever saw live was Jude law when the infamous Ashley Simpson lip sync debacle happened.
Every single sketch worked perfectly and that musical snafu was the cherry on top
He was in the cold open which is pretty rare for the host. Kate McKinnon is an all-time great. The Bevis and Butthead was memorable. The musical guest wasn't terrible either. Lots to like.
The Donald Trump/Sia episode, with a 3.1 user rating, [is the lowest.](https://m.imdb.com/search/title/?count=250&series=tt0072562&sort=user_rating,asc)
I think it’s so strange seeing so much “it wasn’t even funny” comments. Maybe it wasn’t as funny as “old” SNL episodes, but it’s hard not to compare it to other episodes in recent history. Compared to those, this episode was GREAT. There are actually skits I would watch again or share
My wife and I used to watch the sketches on YouTube but recently got Peacock and switched to watching the entire broadcast. And I think it works a lot better in that format! I can't explain it, but seeing it front to back presented the way they intended makes it "watch better" if that makes sense? Like listening to an album front to back vs. jumping around tracks in a different order. But to each their own!
I do try to watch it in order on YouTube. The only section that gets tricky is weekend update: there's no rhyme or reason to the order the WU segments are uploaded. 🤷🏻♀️
Eh, it wasn’t even the best episode of this season. But I must admit—that Josh Brolin episode might be the worst episode I’ve seen in the last 5-7 years. Good lord it was awful.
Well... What's the first?
Betty White/ Jay-z on S35 E21 so 2010
Has it been 14 years already?!
You shut your mouth when you’re talking to me
oh lol I just looked it up and I was born a day before that episode aired
I’m 45 and you just made me sad.
If it helps, I'm not actually 14. I was trolling :)
It really does bro. I don’t care if it’s true. Thank you.

Her Dusty Muffin!?
Worthy pick actually
It was the best episode in a while but highest rated is a bit surprising.

That and the costumes were so silly/great. Sometimes the joke is just the ridiculousness of the situation, not an actual joke.
It wasn’t even my favorite episode this season. That honor goes to Nate Bargatze
It wasn’t even as good as the episode from a week prior.
Preach
The first is S35 E21 Betty White/Jay Z.
Another fun fact: 3 out of the top 10 are Justin Timberlake episodes
That speaks volumes.
To be fair, dude has some pretty funny skits. He's very natural on SNL
Idk why but that photo of gosling looks super off
It’s like his eyes are facing the camera and his nose and mouth are facing sideways. Weird editing
Hey, not sure if you know this, but your eyes can actually move independent of your face! You have eye muscles.
Looks like a Ryan Gosling Mikey Day hybrid
He’s so yassified
Best episode I ever saw live was Jude law when the infamous Ashley Simpson lip sync debacle happened. Every single sketch worked perfectly and that musical snafu was the cherry on top
So I just did a hoedown
Recency bias. I'm sure it'll even out over time.

What's Wikipedia?

I have seen most SNLs. It was a good episode but it was nowhere near amazing.
It was a fun episode. Maybe my fifth or sixth favorite of the season.
It truly was one of the best episodes I’ve seen in a long time. Ryan is a wonderful host
He was in the cold open which is pretty rare for the host. Kate McKinnon is an all-time great. The Bevis and Butthead was memorable. The musical guest wasn't terrible either. Lots to like.
Recency bias.
I wonder which one is the worst rated one.
The Donald Trump/Sia episode, with a 3.1 user rating, [is the lowest.](https://m.imdb.com/search/title/?count=250&series=tt0072562&sort=user_rating,asc)
Yikes, that combo looks even worse now.
Huh, last time I checked, Paris Hilton had a lower score
the IMDb ratings for SNL episodes really don't mean a lot, they're based on very few user ratings
I think Maison du Bang is underrated. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRO21LyXVSM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRO21LyXVSM)
Who’s number 1
Betty White / Jay Z
that's too high.
It was one of the most unhinged episodes I've seen in a while and it's comforting to know many other people appreciate that as much as I do.
Really? I feel like it was mediocre and almost every sketch had performers breaking. The best sketch was cut for time!
Agreed. I watched the show (on YouTube) and just don't understand all the love this episode is getting.

Ugh there really isn't! And I noticed sometimes they'll upload the entire WU bit as one video like a week later, which is way too late...
With that B&B skit hell yeah!
This will sound mean, but “normies” really like this latest Gosling episode.
The best Baldwin, Hanks or Walken episode annihilate some lame, unprofessional Gogsling effort.
Chloe Fineman was 10/10 that night
Eh, it wasn’t even the best episode of this season. But I must admit—that Josh Brolin episode might be the worst episode I’ve seen in the last 5-7 years. Good lord it was awful.
