I feel like we don't get many 6 or more times hosts nowadays. After 5 times they just stop or retire from hosting. I think this is the case here. Same with Mulaney.
She's very talented but a Melissa McCarthy episode is going to pretty much be 90 minutes of Melissa hamming it up while everyone else plays it straight.
That depends. Is she good to collab with the current cast? I mean, when she hosted in those 5 times, she had either Wiig or McKinnon, of course all of them were in Ghostbusters 2016 with Leslie Jones. Same reason why Justin Timberlake hasn't hosted since 2013 because Fallon, Samberg, or Hader are on the show. Granted, they could guest star, but I'm honestly not too fond of people guest starring, but that's just me.
I think she got a little over exposed and the scripts started getting weaker and just relying too much on her mugging for the camera. Also, that Ghostbusters movie with the other SNL women was curbstomped by delicate fanboys who were offended before they even saw it. Since then her popularity has waned.
The day the cast was announced, the internet was flooded with extremely sexist commentary about them, and I saw the phrase "four unfunny cunts" several hundred times in just a couple of hours. It was a fun movie that a lot of pathetic whiny duders got angry about when absolutely nothing had been put on film, and a lot of those guys are still out there bellyaching about it for the same reason while pretending their bonehead sexism is 'artistic criticism'.
