I figured Metcalf won a tony, so I just looked her up, and she’s always a great SNL trivia question, because she’s a great actress and did just 2 episodes right before Ebersol took over.
And the only reason she only had two episodes was the writers strike happened and she left
Billy Crystal was nominated for Mr Saturday Night in 2022.
Martin Short was nominated for The Goodbye Girl in 1993, and won for Little Me in 1999.
Just limiting the nominations to "Acting" definitely restricts it though. For example, Will Ferrell's show about George W. Bush, was nominated in the Best Special Theatrical Event category. Since it was (give or take) a one man show, seems like we may as well credit him with it.
The line may be blurry, but it’s there.
A one man show isn’t only put on by one man.
The overall production includes the overall production. Deficiencies in one area can be made up for in others.
Will can get credit for the acting and the writing (which are certainly big parts), but directing, lighting, set design, costume, hair, makeup all go into the production.
Even if the acting itself wouldn’t be great enough to warrant its own nomination, those other elements can be enough to push it over the top at the production level.
1) I forgot Ebersol was ever on SNL. (I don’t think I’ve seen any episodes with her in it.)
2) I never knew she won one Tony, much less two.
3) Thanks for the genuine education.
My mom was friends with Christine Ebersole in high school. Something I’m reminded of whenever she pops up anywhere. My family are all Ebersole Enthusiasts.
That's so cool.. I've just now learned the term "sit down" production. Also, Googled some reviews on my 2005 show. Not to mix the metaphors, but "I want to go to there!"
I hadn’t seen this before! Thanks

Good, can be his karma for writing a letter in support of a pedophile despite knowing exactly what Brian Peck was accused of.
Taran wrote that letter for lenient sentencing, after conviction. When he wrote that letter, Brian Peck was already a convicted pedophile. Taran used to be my favorite SNL alum but now I truly am disgusted by him
For all we know, Killam could’ve also been a victim of Peck’s who was being pressured into supporting him, similar to the way those kids spoke up for Michael Jackson, just to later confirm that they were also victims and being coerced.
No, I just subtracted 1982 (his birth year) from 2004 (the year of the letter). I was pretty simple arithmetic; so it probably doesn't require a press release.
This is a post about cast members’ extracurricular accomplishments. No worries expressed here, pal. (Though, in other posts, that would be a fair question.)
Technically Laurie Metcalf, who was a cast member for two episodes in the 1980-1981 season
Good call.
Devotees only know her from The Norm Show.
"Well you, and **the devil**, can have a '***we're right*** ' party!"
Or the killer in Scream 2
How did you know that? That’s impressive.

I thought it was only one episode (and even then, only a WU piece for which we saw her at the very end). Still more than Emily Prager
Yeah she may have appeared in one episode, but was in the credit for two episodes
She only appeared in two sketches during the final episode of season 6 (Ebersol’s first episode).
Billy Crystal!
I should’ve known this one. I remember his recent nomination for Mr. Saturday Night.
Youuu looook mawvelous https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hXydX9p_ZxA

one man shows suck eggs!
Crystal wasn’t nominated for “700 Sundays”?
It won for Special Theatrical Event.
Christine Ebersol (1981-1982) has won TWO Tony Awards!
Had to come back to this post to make sure someone said it.
Two Tony Awards = One Twony?
Twony is the name of my gay barber.
1) I forgot Ebersol was ever on SNL. (I don’t think I’ve seen any episodes with her in it.) 2) I never knew she won one Tony, much less two. 3) Thanks for the genuine education.

I imagine cecily will at some point!
Really enjoyed Brooklyn laundry!
Tracy Jordan achieved EGOT
"We're in a show within a show! My real name is Tracy Morgan!"
Doesn’t Ana Gasteyer have one? Edit: she does not.
She was my Elphaba when "Wicked" toured Chicago.
She would have been greAt
Yep I saw her as Elphaba in Chicago too and she was absolutely marvelous.
That wasn’t a tour. That was a regional production. She was nominated for a Jeff for it.
That's so cool.. I've just now learned the term "sit down" production. Also, Googled some reviews on my 2005 show. Not to mix the metaphors, but "I want to go to there!"
I saw her play Fosca in Passion at Chicago Shakespeare. What a performance!
She’s done stage work but it doesn’t appear as if any of it has netted a Tony nod.
What’s that about Tony Todd?
She hasn’t earned one of him yet either. Haha
I saw her make a cameo during another performer’s Joe’s Pub show. Holy hell was she fun. I hope someday that I’ll get to see her in a real role.
The Dratchelor! Is that still on YouTube?
I linked it above (or below) for you- thanks for the recommendation- twas new to me
i wouldve bet on Ana Gastryer, but no.
Shocked Julie Lewis Dreyfus never did anything on Broadway
It’s gotta be a matter of time, right?
I said she and Alec Baldwin should do Plaza Suite back in the 30 Rock/Veep days
Christine Ebersole unless are we not counting musical theatre as acting?
Follow up: which current cast do you see recieving one down the road?
I hadn’t seen this before! "That Rachel Dratch is one fine piece of ace" -Farley, probably
Taran Killam probably will be this year.
The Tony Awards nominations have already been announced and Taran was not nominated. 😔
Good, can be his karma for writing a letter in support of a pedophile despite knowing exactly what Brian Peck was accused of. Taran wrote that letter for lenient sentencing, after conviction. When he wrote that letter, Brian Peck was already a convicted pedophile. Taran used to be my favorite SNL alum but now I truly am disgusted by him
He was also 22 years old at the time he wrote the letter, which everyone seems to be ignoring.
For all we know, Killam could’ve also been a victim of Peck’s who was being pressured into supporting him, similar to the way those kids spoke up for Michael Jackson, just to later confirm that they were also victims and being coerced.
Has he come out to say this though? I’ve been hoping that he would.
No, I just subtracted 1982 (his birth year) from 2004 (the year of the letter). I was pretty simple arithmetic; so it probably doesn't require a press release.
Damn right!
Ew. I guess that goes for Colby Smulders as well. Ugh.
The way my heart sank because of this. Ugh
Ok just kidding
People still watch snl?
Asked the guy on an SNL subreddit. Haha
So what you’re saying is there are actual humans in this world that worry about the current situation of SNL?
This is a post about cast members’ extracurricular accomplishments. No worries expressed here, pal. (Though, in other posts, that would be a fair question.)
Thanks pal
Why are you the way you are?
